how are you going to say theyre destined for sadness when this is literally the last page of the last pov chapter they have? like i hate this pervasive idea that a happy ending is inherently less realistic or less meaningful than a sad one happy ending and unhappy endings can both feel unrealistic and unearned depending on how they pan out and what the story is soc doesn't have an 'everyone lives and nothing hurts' ending but i think its very telling that the only character who gets an unambiguousl sad ending here is the one character who's story isnt over yet. everyone else including matthias ends the story at peace or heading in a positive direction except nina and thats because leigh wasnt done telling her story and even nina gets her happy ending in rule of wolves youre not childish or foolish to want and believe that these people will be happy. there's nothing more 'real' about misery than joy a story about people who have had hard and traumatic lives finding love and healing and joy will always be more compelling and more radical than one where they just end up sad. saying 'you have been sad therefore you must always be sad' isnt realism its cynicism and its no more realistic than saying 'you have been sad but that doesn't stop you from being able to find joy'. if anything the second option is more realistic because it acknowledges how ever changing life is anyway its 2 am and these characters are happy fuck you there are typos in here but tumblr is stupid and doesnt let you edit tags w/o deleting them and I'm not typing this again so they can stay inej ghafa kaz brekker six of crows kanej soc crooked kingdom ck not my tags
