“go to sleep!!” you shake your boyfriend!jeno’s shoulder as you sit beside him on the bed.

“one more page!” he begged, focus staying shifted on the book.

“you said one more page like twelve chapters ago”

“okay, well then twelve more chapters!” jeno corrects himself.

“jeno it is 3 in the morning.”

jeno looks up from the pages to face you.

“you can go to sleep, im not stopping you.”

“jenooooo you know i can’t sleep without youuuu” you whine, tugging on his arm.

“y/nnnnnnnn i’ll literally be right here it’s not like i’m going anywhereeeee” he whines back to mock you.

“if you were reading this book you would know how good it is.”

“maybe, but im not.”

jeno’s eyes lit up

“well then i’ll just read you the book!”

“im not giving in jeno, you need to go to sleep.”

jeno is clearly uninterested in what you had to say. he wraps his arms around you to pull you in to lie closely beside him, your head resting in the crook of his neck.

“let me read you a bedtime story.”

“jeno im not five”

“shhhhhh” he puts his finger to your mouth to hush you. “dont make me sing you a lullaby.”

jeno began reading aloud from where he left off in his book, only sounding like nonsense to you, as he provided no context. obviously the book wasn’t interesting to you at all, but you loved this moment. you loved hearing jeno’s voice, you loved the warmth of being so impossibly close to him, you just loved him.

jeno stops reading for a moment.

“y/n?”

“mm?”

“are you sleepy yet” he giggled.

“no. im not giving in.” you said almost inaudibly into jeno’s t shirt, nuzzling your head more into his shoulder to get more comfortable.

admiring you, jeno placed a kiss on the top of your head.

and unable to fight against your heavy eyelids, you give in.

too tired to think, you don’t respond.

“ynnnnnnn why do you always fall asleep on calls?” haechan whined

you let haechan fall under the impression that you’re sound asleep.

“well you looked really pretty today at school.” he continued. “is it obsessive to like everything about you? is it obsessive to love the way your name rolls off my tongue? yn. yn. yn. yn. see??? it’s so nice… i wish you could see what you’re doing to me. yn… you’re like… you’re like my everything.”

so many butterflies filled your stomach.

“i love you, haechan.” you mumbled into your pillow.

you heard the sound of haechan’s hand slapping his mouth.

“dang it i thought i’d beat you!”

“jeno! are you okay??” you stand up when you see your best friend walk through the cafe door.

“yeah i’m good, you?” he eye smiled.

“i thought you said it was an emergency.”

“ohh.. yeah… that’s, that’s been resolved..” jeno rubs the nape of his neck.

“oh. okay then… what brings you here then?”

“uhhh no reason. im gonna go get coffee.”

jeno was acting weird but you just rub it off.

“here.” jeno says, holding out a coffee for you, as well as one for him in his other hand.

“thanks… but i already have some.” you looked down at the cup on the table.

“oh.” jeno swallows and sits down in the chair across from you.

you laugh, “jeno why are you being so awkward?”

“me? no im not being awkward, what do you mean, you’re the one being awkward.”

“uh-huh…” you slowly nod your head, agreeing suspiciously. “what did you do this time”

“i didn’t do anything!!”

“well then what was that emergency or whatever…” you sipped your drink. “don’t even bother hiding anything from me, i can see right through you, lee jeno.” you smiled at him.

“fine. actually i came to talk to you.” jeno looked down at his fidgeting hands.

“about what?” you rested your arms on the table, tapping a rhythm with your fingers.

“umm yn..”

“yn, i know we’ve known each other forever and we’re practically like siblings…”

your heart sunk. has he only ever saw you as a sibling and nothing more?

“but it’s just that..” jeno continued. “i like you. like not as a sibling, like.. well you know what i mean. there. i said it. please don’t hate me.”

but you made no reaction. you actually didn’t hear anything jeno just said because you were still stuck on the fact that he said you guys were like siblings.

jeno face palms himself. “i knew i shouldn’t have said anything..” he mumbled into his hands.

“is that really what you think?” you ask in a small voice.

“yes..” jeno says quietly to match your tone.

there was a misunderstanding. the question you asked jeno was regarding whether or not he saw you as a sibling, however jeno answered unknowing that you were referring to something else.

“well okay then.” you swallow. “it’s getting dark outside, i should go.” you said getting up from your seat.

“wait yn… do you… have a response?”

“why do you expect me to say anything?” you scoff and run out the door.

jeno stood there in confusion for a brief moment before following behind you. he caught up with you and stood in front of you with his hands on your shoulders to stop you from running.

“yn what’s wrong?”

you look up to face him.

“what do you mean what’s wrong?? my crush of so many years just told me he just sees our relationship as siblings!” tears were rolling down your cheeks.

jeno stared at you blankly, but couldn’t keep his smile in.

“yn, what did you think i said in there?” he laughed and dropped his head onto your shoulder, where his hands still rested.

now you were confused. “well,” you sniffed “well you said that we’re practically siblings.”

“is that all you heard??” he raises his eyebrows.

“i guess..”

“there was a but”

“there was?”

jeno nods his head.

“so…but what?”

“i like you. yn, i confessed to you. i like you a lot. not..as a sibling.”

“ohh.” you were still trying to look sad but you couldn’t hold your laugh in. soon the two of you were in hysterics.

“i cant believe you lied about having an emergency just to tell me you liked me.” you shoved jeno playfully.

“no i really did have an emergency.”

“oh.” you felt humbled.

“i mean i was in an emergency to see you...”

you cover your face to hide your embarrassment.

jeno puts his arm around your neck and rubs his knuckles on your head, as the two of you start walking side by side.

“i’ll walk you home.” he then quickly kissed your cheek.

caught off guard, you turn your head to look at the boy next to you, met with his face close to yours.

you shared a brief intimate moment with each other, until you broke the silence.

“i’ll race you there!”

“jae call me when you get there.”

“and text me before you get on the plane.”

“shhhhhh” jaehyun interrupts your frantic blabbering and leans over to match your height.

“ill call you as soon as I get there.” he assures you softly through his smile, eyes level to yours.

there you stood, face to face.

“why do you always leave” you couldn’t fight the lump in your throat anymore.

“pfffft yn don’t cry” jaehyun nudged your shoulder then pulled you up against his chest.“you’ve always been such a cry baby ever since we were kids.” jaehyun mocked you.

you could feel your tears soak through his thin t shirt.

“please don’t leave, jae” you wrap your arms around his neck, on your tippy toes to reach, your head resting on his neck, his chin placed on your head.

you hug your best friend a little tighter. “we won’t see each other for months” your voice breaks.

*last call for boarding in gate ##*

“that’s my flight” jaehyun tilted his head to speak more directly into your ear while patting a rhythm on your back.

you step back to release your grasp on him, staring at the floor, rubbing your eyes, and sniffling your nose.

“byyye ynnn” jaehyun says playfully while ruffling your hair.

you couldn’t bring yourself to answer, but you looked at him, which only made you cry more.

jaehyun only giggled and waved as he slowly got further away from you and closer to his gate.

he was still in your sight, but you decided to text him.

i miss you already

you can see jaehyun as he sees the notification come in on his phone. he looks back at you and seems to admire you for a brief moment.

all of a sudden, you see him shove his way out of the line and start walking back over to you, kind of laughing to himself.

he approached you, looking like he knew exactly what he was going to do.

giving you no time to react, jaehyun went straight in to kiss you. you could feel how warm his cheeks were, admiring this flustered side of your best friend that you had never seen before.

“still miss me?” he giggled after pulling away from your lips.

it was a shock, but it’s not like you’ve never imagined kissing him before… still, you stared in confusion with wide eyes and raised eyebrows.

embarrassed, you pushed him away.

“go away! you’re gonna miss your flight!!”

“oh, so now you want me to go?” jaehyun teased.

“whatever..”

you were a blushing mess.

“i love you, yn.”

“mm.” you avoided looking at him.

“you know you wanna say it...” he grabbed your arm.

you shyly leaned against jaehyun with your head down and mumbled some words.

“love you too, jae.”

you and mark lied there, still face to face, taking in each other’s presence.

“yeah, red suits you well..” he said.

you let out a pleased scoff.

“what..” mark questioned.

“i think that’s the first time you’ve given me a serious compliment.” your lips curl into a grin. “you normally say that you’re just kidding or something afterwards.”

“i really do mean what i say.”

your eyes widened a little.

you followed his movements as he started to sit up slowly, subconsciously leaning closer to you.

your eyes closed, anticipating his touch.

“please do it.” you hoped silently. “kiss me this time.”

before he got any closer, his abrupt jerk startled you.

somehow you and mark always found yourselves ending up in this situation. it never got any further than this. you were on the same page, yet nothing ever happened.

you stared at the flustered boy in front of you, oddly comfortable in a situation that should be tense with embarrassment. you were used to it at this point, there is no hiding anything from each other, and neither of you mind being completely vulnerable to each other.

mark looked cute. his messy hair. his pink cheeks. his perfectly placed moles. his innocent expression.

even though you told yourself to never admit how you felt about mark, your heart seemed to have already made the decision for you.

“mark. you can kiss me.” you said in a whisper, tears forming in the corners of your eyes for some reason. “you can kiss me this time.”

your words seemed to leave mark unaffected. as if he’s already played them in his mind hundreds of times before. he eagerly inches closer to you. confidently knowing exactly what he was going to do, he guided his lips to meet yours.

his lips were soft and sweet. just like you had imagined. you ran your hand across mark’s arm to notice goosebumps covering his body.

he can’t help but smile out of the kiss…

“well that would have been nice to know a long time ago.”
