man, narrating in russian: Every fucking year, this time of the year, the pond at my backyard gets infested. What do ponds get infested with? Frogs? Poisonous weeds? Geese? No. Not my pond.
[The man opens the back door, stepping out into a garden. Three or four nude, human-like figures dash from the borders of a pond back into the water.]
man: Rusalki! I don't know where they come from or how they get here, and I can't afford to hire an exterminator every year. I can't let my cat outside anymore. Last year a rusalka managed to drown a whole deer in my pond, the stench was unbearable.
[He walks as he speaks, approaching the pond. There are several eerily beautiful female beings peering at him from under the surface, their long hair floating in the murky water. Their eyes are gleaming in an unhuman way. The man holding the camera stops to film them.]
man, calm and deadpan: What the fuck are all of you staring at. Get jobs or something.
[One of the rusalki, smaller than the others and clearly not a fully matured adult, slowly reaches out of the water with her white, thin hand, grasping his ankle. He appears unconcerned.]
man: You can't drown me, you little idiot. You're too small. Shoo!
[A loud thud startles the rusalki, making them scatter. A second thud makes it clear these are the approaching footsteps of something massive. The man turns around and points the camera at what appears to be a house, walking past above the treeline with chicken-like legs]
man, now yelling: IF YOUR HOUSE SHITS ON MY YARD AGAIN I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD-
So I’ve been thinking about the concept of an Adventure Zone platform fighter. And also drawing about it. Here’s Magnus’ special moves.
Magnus is a well-balanced fighter. He’s got some real nice damage, decent speed for starting combos, and a few ranged options for a primarily melee moveset. His aerial game leaves something to be desired, however.
Magnus’ neutral special throws the Chance Lance, which stays put wherever it lands. Using the move again recalls it to Magnus, doing damage to anyone in its path.
Up special is your standard grapple recovery, won’t do much damage but will pull enemies/items towards him.
Forward special is, naturally, Magnus Rushes In. Good for closing gaps, and reflects most projectiles, but easily punishable if you don’t connect.
Down special is Phantom Fist. Essentially the inverse of his up special, also doesn’t do much damage, but pushes enemies/items away.
Magnus’ finale is the Flaming Poisoning Raging Sword of Doom. For a short time, all of Magnus’ standard attacks that use his axe will instead use this bad boy, doing much more damage and knockback.

Following up on my thoughts from yesterday, here’s a Taako moveset for a hypothetical Adventure Zone platform fighter.
Taako is on the edge of being a glass cannon. He’s capable of doing a ton of damage in a variety of ways, but he absolutely cannot take a hit. Fortunately, as a flip wizard, he can maneuver pretty well in the air, so long as he’s not immediately knocked into the blast zone.
Taako’s neutral special is a classic magic missile scenario. Can be charged to fire between one and three projectiles, which move somewhat erratically and home slightly.
His up special is pretty much just Peach’s. You can’t give a character an umbrella and not feature this move.
Taako’s side special summons tentacles from the floor that damage and can stun opponents. Hold the button down longer to summon them further away.
His down special briefly summons Garyl beneath him as a counter. If Garyl is struck, he’ll charge forward and do damage.
Taako’s finale briefly transforms him into Dupree the tyrannosaurus rex. As Dupree, he moves much more slowly and has a limited moveset, but he also deals massive damage, takes less damage, and is immune to knockback.
We as a society will never get over “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” and that’s beautiful.
BUT, let’s not sleep on the raw power of the “Offer me money. Anything I want. I want my father back you son of a bitch” exchange because it sends me fucking feral exactly every time and only gets stronger.
