Let's go with a snippet from the last flashback/backstory chapter from Kye Thalax's past (a.k.a. the day his Dad dies when Kye is a kid and leads to his revenge arc as an adult)
They didn't stop running for a while. Eldora's men were persistent, and both of them knew they would likely get killed for the treason of... escaping from her grasp. Neither of them wanted to - much less after experiencing a little taste of freedom for a year.
Still, her wrath was about as unavoidable as the Reaper's cold embrace. From where he was held in his Dad's arms, Kye had not yet seen the men following them, ever since they'd lost track of them - but he thought he saw one, up on the rooftop of one of those bright silver buildings. There was a flash of red light, barely noticeable, following them, like a laser from those movies he'd seen.
"Dad?" The seven-year-old asked, nervous, as he tried to see what the man on the rooftop was about to do. Damen, panicked, didn't answer - he'd said they needed to get to some ship. That if they got there in time, they would be safe.
But right now, as the red dot continued to follow them, Kye wasn't so sure. He tried again, this time tugging, gently, on his father's ponytail, "Dad!? Dad, what's that?"
Damen looked at him, still running, frazzled "Dear, now's not -"
He cut himself off, stopping and looking over his shoulder. Kye noticed how his eyes narrowed for a moment, and his pointy, frost-white ears twitched, a second before a sharp something whooshed through the air.
His Dad jumped to the side, curling around him and keeping the boy out of view. Meanwhile, a glass capsule flew right into his leg, shattering and spilling a dark grey, bubbling liquid into the wound. As Kye peeked from under his arms, the strange red dot was nowhere to be found.
A moment later, Damen finally dared to move, looking frantically over his shoulders and around them to see if the shooter was still taking aim. When he looked at his own leg, fingers gingerly brushing against the wound, he gasped, freezing for a moment.
Kye didn't know what his Dad had seen or recognized, but if his reaction was anything to go by, it wasn't something good. It would only be years later that Kye would look back at this moment in time and recognize this strange liquid as... poison.
His Dad had been poisoned. But now in this very instant, all that he knew, was that his Dad was scared. And he was terrified too.

writers and artists will go “this isn’t good enough.” my brother in christ, you’re creating something new out of nothing and expressing yourself creatively. your productivity and unrealistic standards of perfection do not define you or the worth of your art. you’re doing great.

Thanks for tagging me, @thecomfywriter (here)!!!
Let's go with Aelia and Emrin from The Crystal of Ash, and Tarah & Kye from Supernova Initiative for this one!
Aelia 🍂
She is the daughter of a man who once was the most successful thief and the most wanted man on the continent across the sea. Once he amassed wealth to rival that of most, he changed his identity and moved to the main kingdom of the story, where he posed as a powerful merchant and became a very influential man. Thus, Aelia both has thief skills and knows upper-class etiquette - as she was raised in both environments.
She is a wild spirit at heart, spending most of her time sparring in the chateau's courtyard, riding horses, exploring the woods, studying secret magic, and trying to learn more about the other kingdom, where she was born.
She thinks that Declan is endearing, though at first when they met he used to be concerned, a bit creeped out by the fact that she could sneak like a spider anywhere without being noticed.
She has a flying cat (those creatures are called Gryphers in their world), who is just as much a menace to society as her, and who adores stealing tarts from the kitchen because he knows he'll get away with it.
She has shown some talent for magic, though hers is a bit foreign to the local scholars when compared to the usual magic in Callonor.
Emrin 🏹
Emrin is considered an aberration both by the humans of the continent and the Levaethia, the draconic elves from beyond the mountains because she is of half-human, half-Levaethia blood.
She was taken in by a young Levaethian outcast, who had been banished by his tribe for disagreeing with their people's Way - since he believed maintaining peace with those invading their land would only lead to their people's death. He was a leader of a rebel movement, and along with his friends - became like siblings to the young Emrin, who was an outcast too, and taught her to be a ferocious assassin to any humans who invaded their land.
She's a talented archer, who rarely - if ever - misses her mark, and has a strong tie to earth/nature sorcerer, being considered a very powerful and dangerous Caster.
When she was around twelve years old, she saved a dragon pup from a trap. Much like her, dragons were seen as murderous monsters by humans and Levaethians alike, and so, after she saved the young dragonling, they developed a close bond and friendship based on that understanding.
Emrin loves wildberry juice and has quite a sweet tooth.
She blames her human blood for her being considered an outcast, which makes her alliance with the main cast very fickle, born out more of necessity than trust.

Tarah 🪻
She loves making woven bracelets with her best friend, it's their little tradition.
She's the daughter of a genius Junction scientist who had his life's work stolen from him and then found out the corruption the Director was involved in - and made the mistake of threatening to expose it. Which got him killed.
Tarah has anxiety and does not know how to properly interact with people she doesn't know, gravitating between a people-pleasing personality and a skittish one.
She has a love and a talent for learning languages.
She likes to gift people unique gifts on their birthday but often forgets her own. Not because of any self-esteem issue. Just because she is forgetful.
Tarah loves music but hates loud noises.
She has a big dog who follows her everywhere and looks like an alien version of a pitbull.
She is actually pretty good at baking.
Kye 🐍
Kye's "weapon of choice" against his enemies is poison, and he is an expert on lethal chemicals and the deadliest poisons in the galaxy. The reason why he chooses to use poison for his enemies is that poison was the cause of the death of his Dad (something that traumatized Kye deeply) - so it's kind of a way for Kye to make his enemies "suffer like his Dad did."
Kye is incredibly sarcastic and is capable of being a sassy lil' shit when he wants to.
When he was a teenager, Kye met Artemis Zreeth and they temporarily became best friends, but after an unfortunate string of terrible circumstances and misunderstandings, they went their separate ways and became rivals.
Kye hates the smell of roses - especially the artificial ones - and one of his triggers is the sound of platform heels (because his abusive mother, Eldora, used to wear rose perfume and platform heels)
Kye loves animals, especially weird ones, but also puppies and kittens. He really has a soft spot for cuteness.
One of his hobbies is embroidering, and his favorite designs to embroider are flowers
He starts out as incredibly morally grey and ruthless, but through his friendship with the main cast, slowly learns how to be kind and honorable again, while not losing his dangerous side towards his enemies.

A snippet from Scrapyard Boys, that I am quite proud of (:
"Y'know, this is almost like a hobby to me. Hunting mutants." The masked man laughed, crowbar in one hand, gun in the other, "Yeah, it's kinda wild."
On the ground, nonchalantly, Josh rolled around to lie on his back, looking up at the man, "No, it's just sick."
The strange man paused, tilting his obscured face to the side, voice muffled by the thick mask, "You know why I'm gonna disagree with you-?"
Josh rolled his eyes, seemingly busy with something else, "I don't, but I'm pretty sure you're about to tell me."
The man didn't answer, simply kicking him over with enough force to send him careening to the side. Instead of crying out, Josh laughed - an out-of-breath sound that sounded more like crying.
A few feet away, bound up on her knees, Erin chided in, a frantic mix of panic and annoyance in her voice "...Josh, shut up. Are you out of your mind?!"
Josh stopped laughing for a moment, pulling himself up in a disjointed motion, like a possessed ragdoll learning to move - quite a disturbing sight that halted even the masked man in his tracks. His eyes crackled and swirled with pitch-black energy, and his voice was warbled when he spoke again, "No, I'm not," He giggled, the sound alternating between deep and bellowing and shrill like a broken computer.
Erin noticed that his hands were now unbound - broken, but unbound - and saw the familiar shape of his summoned nightmares beginning to loom over him like a shadow. She said nothing. He tilted his head to the side, neck cracking unnaturally, and then finished his sentence, eyes zeroed in on their attacker, multiple voices overlapping, "But he will be, soon."
The masked mobster growled, leveling his gun at the young man and firing. As the glowing bullet whizzed through the air, Josh and his shadows were faster, swatting it aside with a laugh, before - with a shrill, blood-curdling shriek, the shadows advanced on the masked one, digging into the man's mind like inky tendrils.

"Ever consider that we are specks of dust in the endless void of eternity, bound to be forgotten and erased?" Nikolay said, laying on his bedroll, staring up at the stars above with wide eyes.
Declan, who was sleeping on the other side of the camp, rolled to the side to look at him, yawning. "No." He says, exhasperatedly sleepy, "Nikolay, have you been drinking?"
The other young man shrugged, humming to himself. "Eh. Not really, no. I was just... thinking out loud."
Declan couldn't suppress a chuckle, "Hm. Let's make an exercise to think inwardly then."
"But what's the fun in that?" The other asked, still looking up at the starry sky, seemingly unaware that Declan didn't really want to talk right now.
The alchemist groaned, "The fun is that someone gets to sleep in this camp."

Seven lines from Supernova Initiative!
The girl, a young woman around his age, with curved horns stopped by the glass entrance to the chambers, "My parents don't want our people to get involved in this war. But they don't see that the war is already here."
She shakes her head, a thick accent painting her words in uniquely, gravelly, and warbling, but yet soft and melodious. It seems like a voice made to be spoken underwater.
"I will help you guys - because Thalassen needs to remain independent." The girl declares, with a decisive liveliness to her words. She pressed a sequence of buttons on the chamber's outer wall, and the double glass doors slid open.
Inside, Jack and his crew still watched, practically dumbfounded, as she beckoned them forward, "Now, shall we?"
Jack looked at her, then back at his friends, with a breathless chuckle, still not moving from where he was standing, "Alright, but who are you...?"
The girl smiled, sharp like rows upon rows of tiny shark teeth, "I'm Lyorna." She paused, then suddenly squeaked as if she'd forgotten a little detail. "The Admiral's daughter and all that. What about you, stranger?"
"I'm just a thief." Jack stammered, as a sea of hushed whispers and gasps coming from his friends at the fact that they were meeting such an important figurehead's daughter. "O-oh, and my name is Jack. Jack Tithus."
He quickly added, and the girl's - Lyorna - joyous smile increased only just slightly, apparently oblivious to his crew's momentary whispering. Something in her wide-eyed stare, like big pools of dark blue ink, told them she seemed somehow amused or had found the exchange endearing.
She extended a webbed hand towards him, "Nice to meet you, just-a-thief." Lyorna poked fun at his earlier slip up as they shook hands, with a wink, "Now let's go, before Papa finds out and feeds you to the Kherllar out in the Ocean."
