Whenever a human gets courted/gets in a pact with a demon; humans split their soul with a demon. In a pact sense (strictly business) they split their soul to ensure that they get their end of the “contract” and the benefits. Demon in turn have no use for the other half of the human soul other than to make sure that the human gets their benefits, but with the “new” soul their demonic side isn’t as intense

But in a romantic sense the soul-bond it is intakes and makes a deeper convection between both parties. They can feel eachother emotionally and mentally, if (for example) the person is feeling sad the other can feel their sadness. Same with the other partner. Demon are less incline to feed into their sin, some demons can put away the feeling of their sin entirely (although it comes with big consequences)

But when their human dies their soul leaves their physical form as well as leave the demons body. This has huge consequences on the demon psyche because they spent a long time withdrawn from their sin they tend to go insane/into a feral state mass feeding into their sin/anything trying to fill the emptiness the human soul once filled (can also depend how long they’ve been bonded to their human). Even going as far as to force a decendant of their “soul-mate” into a pact with them (though forced pacts can be worse for the demon as it is non-consensual). It is possible for the to get back to “normal” but it is very rare and hardly ever heard of. Some demons spend eternity mourning their soul-mate and even withdrawing from society.

Oh man.... Luci is such a sap for you. For a while, you’ll never get him to admit it- he’s just trying to protect Diavolos precious program, okay? Besides, you’re so tiny... and fragile... and cute... he’d never forgive himself if anything happens to you. For a while, he even convinced HIMSELF that it was all for the sake of the program. That aching feeling he got when he watched your hair blow in the wind while you were grocery shopping and he watched you tuck a strand back behind your ear? That was just endearment similar to that you’d have for a pet. That feeling after one time when he woke up after falling asleep in his desk to a pillow pushed under his head and a blanket laid over his shoulders? Simply greatfulness to you taking care of him in his weakened state. When you got scooped up by a demon while you were walking home from school with him one day? Well that time- that time was different. The merge of pure panic and rage that surged through him was reminiscent of something he’d only felt since the Celestial War. The demon that grabbed you definitely wasn’t expecting to have the first born Demon Lord hurtling after him, and you certainly weren’t expecting to be scooped up and pulled into Lucifer’s chest afterward, but it was a day for firsts. Maybe you were more than just an exchange student, he thought, but right now the only thing that matters is that I have you back.

Two words- Human. Pillow. One time Belphie fell asleep on your lap, and now you’re fucked- your his personal teddy bear, and there’s honestly nothing you can do about it. When he gets grumpy from being up to long, and you’re taking your sweet time to come to bed, he won’t hesitate to come up behind you mid-convo and scoop you up like his cow pillow, proceeding to drag you off to his nest. It can get annoying, but you don’t mind, really- he keeps you warm in the suprising chill of DevilDom evenings. Besides, who wouldn’t love having a slightly possessive snuggle monster whisk them away to a relaxing, nap filled evening? And when he whispers how cute he finds you in his sleep... well, that’s just a bonus, huh?
