What was the point of Daemon/Alyssa exactly? To show how disgusting HotD is? Not even Dumb and Dumber would write a parent/child scene and they wrote a lot of fucked up stuff.

It's simply there to make Daemon look awful and to drag out this show unnecessarily. The writers are spending such a ridiculous amount of time with Daemon fucking around in Harrenhal just so they can get more time without spending time on other important characters. Rhaena, for example, is getting absolutely nothing, even though they're clearly setting her up for Nettles' arc.

So basically the purpose is to be shitty, anon. Some people might try to mask it with pseudo-intellectualism, but that's the truth of it.

Daemon's diegetic, in-universe fatal flaw is that he's usually right but he's also a stubbornly bad communicator to the point that all the true misunderstandings are centered around him.

So... I understand those who try to say that the real Alyssa Targaryen was not tainted, because what we saw in 2x05 was not the real Alyssa, that it is just Alys raping Daemon's mind with horrible visions / dreams.

But that doesn't change that literally the first kind of representation between guile that Alyssa Targaryen will have had on the screen is through an incestuous sex scene with her son provoked by a witch who therefore violates the spirit of Daemon.

How twisted is this approach ? What forced the writers to actually write this scene ?

Daemon's madness caused by Harrenhal and Alys does not have to manifest in this way. Nothing obliges him.

Once again it's just a trashy scene intended to gratuitously shock the viewer and nothing more.

Because in fact this scene does not bring anything concrete to Daemon's character.

The only real consequence of this scene is for the fandom which will use it to further criticize the Targaryens and their practice of incest, even if once again everyone in Westeros practices incest.

To return to the main subject, it is truly degrading and misogynistic to have invoked the image of Alyssa Targaryen on screen for the first time in this way. As a pure sexual object.

This is once again atrocious from a writing standpoint.

That this is not the real Alyssa Targaryen and a pure creation of Alys does not change anything in the unconscious collective impact that this scene will have on the viewer. The fact that the first sort of image they will have received of this female character is this scene. For those who don't know the Alyssa Targaryen book version this will be what this scene shows for those who only watch GOT and HOTD.

There is nothing in the writing that justifies the need for this type of scene.

Hello! So there's not really a clear answer to this that I know of. There's never been a commoner crowned before that has been recorded. Though I think it very well could be possible, since the only requirements seem to be a woman that the knight is interested in. It would definitely be a scandal though, but that could be great conflict in the story if you want!
