[Innistrad Battlemap]Gavony Township

Gavony is the most populous province of Innistrad, where the humans remained strong and safe, sheltered behind the high walls of Thraben, the largest city of the Innistrad. While the surrounding settlements were constantly under assault, Thraben and its immense cathedral remained relatively safe. Small towns grew away from Thraben on Gavony's rocky moors. Small groups of trees stained the hills and moors of the province.

As Bolas's plans reached their culmination, he had already made his mark on the city of Ravnica. A magnificent statue of the dragon planeswalker now overlooked the Plaza of the Guildpact, bearing a dictator's infuriating smirk, an affront to everything Ravnica stood for.

Deep within Vannifar's home zonot of Zonot Three lies the laboratory of Navika, the hub of the Guardian Project. Lit by bioluminescent glow, the lab was built into, or possibly grown in the shape of, an enormous nautilus shell. Even within the guild, Navika has a mysterious and slightly sinister reputation as a place where Vannifar's elite biomancers push the boundaries of the law, biology, and ethics in the name of adaptation.

Most Simic have never even seen Navika, and even fewer have been inside. The work of the Guardian Project, authorized by Prime Speaker Vannifar, is the creation of increasing numbers of sapient humanoid hybrids intended to form an army of highly evolved soldiers. Each of these hybrids is a different fusion of humanoid characteristics with a mix of traits from other species.

The five gods are the effective rulers of Amonkhet. They are not the creators of the plane, but they are its stewards while the people of Naktamun await the return of the God-Pharaoh. The five gods believe they were created by the God-Pharaoh, who charged them with teaching the people the ways of the God-Pharaoh, and with protecting them until he comes.

The five gods embody the five virtues the God-Pharaoh wishes to cultivate in those who will become his Eternals in the afterlife. Each god is responsible for modeling and teaching one of those virtues to the acolytes and initiates of Naktamun, and then testing those initiates to ensure that they have mastered their teachings. Thus, they are present during the acolytes’ first lessons, during the Ceremony of Measuring, during the initiates’ intense training, and at each of the trials that are part of an initiate’s journey.

The God Trials were a series of tasks performed on the plane of Amonkhet that each inhabitant of the world aspired to complete. Originally, the Trials predated Nicol Bolas's intrusion into the plane and were only held once in a solar cycle. Bolas took this tenet and perverted it to hold the population of Naktamun in a never-ending state of exercise. An initiate who underwent a trial was awarded a Cartouche upon its completion. The God-Pharaoh taught that this record of the initiate's achievements preserved the initiate's essence, safeguarding their life force for the journey to the afterlife. Only the best of the best attained the "worthy dead" and had the honor of being personally killed by Hazoret after completing the 5th trial. The corpses of the survivors were shipped through the Gates of the Afterlife at the end of the Hekma and were believed to stay in a hidden oasis. It was thought that upon his return, Bolas would grant an afterlife to the worthy dead. This "afterlife" was revealed to be the transformation into an Eternal. With the deaths of most of the gods and citizens of Naktamun, and the complete desolation and abandonment of the city, the trials could not continue.

[Ravnica Battlemap]Interplanar Beacon 32x56

After Niv-Mizzet revealed that he had known about the existence of other planes, planeswalkers, and the threat of Nicol Bolas, he had Ral turn Project Lightning Bug into a beacon to call other planeswalkers to help fight Bolas. Unknown to Niv-Mizzet, this idea was implanted in his mind by a Dimir thoughtstealer, at the behest of Bolas himself.

After it was activated, the beacon appeared as bright sparkling lights in the air, pointing towards Ravnica, and it urged the planeswalkers deep in their soul to travel there. The pull of the beacon was very strong and took intense concentration to resist. However, when Bolas activated the Immortal Sun, this had the unfortunate effect of trapping the planeswalkers on Ravnica as ready targets for his Elderspell.

[Ravnica Battlemap]Gruul Turf - Scab Clan Territory 32x56

The Scab Clan is made up of a variety of races, including minotaurs, centaurs, ogres, and goblins. Scab clan warriors despise pretentiousness and false airs. They believe that the body is the outward form of the spirit and that the more maimed the appearance, the more authentic the warrior. The Scab have engulfed or destroyed several clans in recent years, but the leader of the clan, a corpulent giant known as Narbulg Nine Fingers, has not yet designed to challenge Borborygmos or the Burning Tree.
