Don't get hung up on finding that perfect first sentence in the first draft. The first draft isn't for the reader, it's for you. The first sentence doesn't need to hook someone in to keep reading, it needs to get you in the flow to keep writing.
This. Also works on characters. A couple of months ago I rewatched Red Dwarf and thought, 'huh, I forgot how cute Rimmer is.'
Read a fanfic and my brain went, 'there is now nothing we would not do if this man asked us.'
I am once again reminded of the dangers of reading fan fiction. I am only ever one fic away from going absolutely insane over a new ship.
I did a thing, and I am not sorry.
Okay so, I'm a Rimmer girl through and through, but how are there not more Lister/OC fanfics out there? Dude is literally the last man left in the universe, that sh*t writes itself surely?
