Smegtober 1. Memory
The sun was setting on the farm. The bright burning sun glimmered over the waves of the sea. Lister sat on the beach and breathed the salt and sand into his old and tired lungs.
It was May 23rd
At least he thought it was.
At least this was the day he gave himself to remember.
To remember the ship and the cat and the scutters and Rimmer.
-10 years previously-
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Rimmer. Happy Birthday to you”
Rimmer smiled sadly at LIster who held up a mango with a 72 carved in the side.
“Hey, don’t knock it.” Lister scoled it “It’s better than last year and the cockroach meat. At least this one holds a number” They sat side by side in Starbugs lounge on the sofa.
“It’s wonderful, Listy,” Rimmer said, and he meant it.
Lister bit into the mango and moaned in delight “So good”
“It’s wonderful, Listy,” Rimmer said again. “It’s wonderful, Listy”
“Ah, Smeg” Lister put down the mango.
“It’s wonderful, Listy”
Lister pushed through Rimmer's hard-light chest to his light bee.
“It’s wonderful, Listy,” Rimmer said for a final time before Lister switched him off.
“Aye” Lister mumbled “It's really smegging wonderful”
He cradled the light bee in his palms and shut his eyes. Rimmer was low on battery and it was only a matter of time before he was out. Kryten had long since switched himself off along with the ship and all the electronics. Only Rimmer was left, waiting in the remains of the ship for when Lister returned from hunting and gathering on the planet; Not Earth but it had oxygen and water and Lister was too old and tired to care.
He breathed out through his nose and opened his eyes again. He took the light bee outside to cool down for a while. He’d turn him back on before bed. Lister struggled to sleep without the soft electrical static of the hologram beside him.
But he supposed he would have to get used to it someday.
-Now-
Lister walked back up the steps into starbug. He had been alone for 9 years 2 months and 15 days. He hadn’t expected to live that long considering what he put his body through when he was young. But that’s how it went he supposed. He had long since given up finding reasons for the things that happened to him.
He picked up Rimmer's light bee from where it sat on his bedside table, illuminated by the soft light of the 12 moons.
Lister’s old arms and legs were sore as he lay down in the bed.
“Happy Birthday, Rimmer” Lister whispered to the light bee.
And drifted off to sleep.
I literally didn't know I needed this until right now.
i wish every woman could experience being in a true female only space at least once. a space away from men in a secluded area. cooking, eating, dancing, creating, swimming, existing only among women. no need for make up, clothing that’s not comfortable and practical, no bras, no shaving, no artificial femininity. if you wanna walk around naked you can be, no one’s gonna stare at you, no fear of a man sitting in the bush filming or masturbating. no body shaming or pointing out any part of your body. no pressure to look perfect. no need to look perfect. just existing and being enough, living without fear and in harmony with our bodies and nature.
Part of me really wants to rewrite Secretary but make it Red Dwarf (including my OC Sephy)
@feline-ranger this is your fault. (Love you ❤️)
First thing that goes through your head at this pic?
