So... About How Adrien Refers To His Father
So... about how Adrien refers to his father
So I was just thinking about Adrien's home life (as one does), and remembered the way he addresses Gabriel and how absolutely heartbreaking it is.
First of all, he uses "vous" (formal "you") when talking to him instead of "tu" (informal "you"). People only use "vous" when referring to teachers/strangers/etc., but never their parents.
(for a bit of context, Marinette uses "tu" to talk to her parents, and so do Chloé, Alix, Mylène, Luka, Juleka, and probably some other people that I'm not remembering now)
The only other people who use "vous" to refer to their parents in the show are Kagami and Félix (and Zoé when talking to André but that's just because he's her step-dad and they're not exactly close yet. Most children use "vous" to refer to adults who aren't related to them, unless they're extremely close).
To make things even worse, Adrien calls his father "Père" (Father) instead of "papa" (dad), but he called his mother "maman" (mom), as we can see in the episode Chat Blanc.
Again, the only other person who is that formal with their parents is Kagami, who calls her mom "Mère" (Mother).
Even Félix calls his mom "Maman," despite using "vous" to address her (so I assume that Adrien also used "vous" with his mom, which is still sad but I guess he was less formal with her than with Gabriel).
Something even sadder? In Chat Blanc, while Ladybug and Chat Noir were confronting Papillon, Chat Noir is using "tu" to talk to him, which shouldn't be used by children when talking to an adult that they're not close with because it shows how little respect they have for that person. So of course, Ladybug and Chat Noir are going to use "tu" with him.
However, the second that they find out it's Gabriel, Adrien immediately switches to using "vous," which, again, children only use with adults who they aren't close to nor related to. Literally the only reason you would use "vous" with a family member is because you're not close to them and/or are afraid of them (it's probably both for Adrien).
And can you believe that it gets even worse?
Here's a scene from the Climatika 2 (or Stormy Weather 2), directly translated from the French dub:
Adrien: *smiling widely* This photo shoot was awesome, dad!
Gabriel: *glares at him* Hm?
Adrien: *his expression changes immediately, he now looks really sad* Um... sorry, father. Uhh... It was very interesting.
So the only way I can interpret that is that Adrien used to call him "papa" in the past, and only started calling him "Père" recently. He accidentally slipped back into the old habit of calling him "papa," and Gabriel was able to correct him with just one glare.
So yeah anyway here's your daily reminder that Gabriel Agreste is a trash human being who doesn't deserve to be a father.

I love that school buses are a standard unit of measurement for dinosaurs and dinosaurs only.
Its so annoying I hate how some do this and go against what has been established in the show and justs makes for confusion. I 100% agree with @chatblancismyfursona on this one.
For anyone confused regarding the cataclysm that hit Adrien;

If Emilie kicked the bucket, he could still survive—Adrien’s life isn’t contingent on hers.

I'm seeing all these "Adrien is a sentimonster" theories and, while I'm not going to deny the possibility (thank you for scaring the shit outta me, btw), I'd like to point something out:
Although Gabriel's ring being amokitized (?) seems possible, don't forget Félix stole his original ring. If Adrien's amok resided in the his father's ring, he would be under Félix or Amelie's control from now on, not Gabriel's.
You could say that, since the Graham the Vanilly heirloom were actually a pair of twin rings, both of which Gabriel kept, then the real amok could've been inside the one Félix didn't steal. But if that were the case, then Gabriel shouldn't have been able to control Adrien for as long as he has.
And, having said that, Adrien has had many instances of free will all throughout the show. Instances Gabriel would have never allowed and that no other sentimonster has been able to do, no matter how perfect they were, unless their amok was in their possession; which Adrien clearly doesn't have.
He went against Gabriel's orders twice to go to school.
As the show has progressed, Adrien's deliberately gone against Gabriel's orders and, either skipped his extracurricular activities (Frozer, Desperada) or gone behind his back to do something (Startrain, Origins).
While his father's allowing Lila to stay close, Adrien actually draws a line.
Even if it takes him a while, Adrien eventually realises when people he cares about are complete assholes.
As I said, I'm not going to disregard the sentimonster idea entirely, but keep in mind that Adrien's free will and Félix's involvement could both be factors defending or debunking this theory.
