I Thought Cersei & Jaime /catherine & Heatcliff Parallel Was Intentional On Grrm's Side?
i thought cersei & jaime /catherine & heatcliff parallel was intentional on grrm's side?
but yeah rip cersei you would've been sooo crazy about this book
A shame Cersei Lannister can't get her hands on a copy of Wuthering Heights because she would be so unwell about that book

brienne deserved so much better than her show portrayal, which seems to misunderstand that bri is not interesting simply because she’s a female knight, or because of her appearance, or the cruel things she has suffered as a result of both of these, it is the fact that despite all of these things she is still gentle and idealistic and kindhearted and romantic. brienne reconciles traits that are considered to be antithetical in westerosi society. she does not have to be a beautiful maid to dream of love and enchantment, and she can dream of these things whilst also being an incredibly capable knight. she’s open minded and defies expectations; she does not have to adhere to a strictly ‘masculine’ way of thinking in order to be strong. and then the show had her insult jaime by saying he was ‘acting like a woman’
i hate it HATE IT so much when asoiaf fans go "grrm finish the fucking books already" and "lmao we'll never get twow" and "what if grrm dies and doesn't finish the story" and if i see this shit one more time i'll start biting people, because SHUT UP LET HIM COOK let him take his time!! this is so mean-spirited like here's the author that gave us so so many wonderful heartwrenshing captivating profoundly human stories but instead of being supportive and grateful you bitch and moan about how long it takes him to write more???
people on tumblr make such long post that analyze every word in these books, because literally every word is so thought-out it's either a foreshadowing or a subtle but real reflection of the pov character's constantly evolving inner life or has some otherwise deeper meaning to it; and the same thoughtfulness goes for every chapter, every plot point, every character interaction! and then the same people wonder why it takes grrm so long to write it?? seriously??
and if you ever attempted to write anything real and sincere you know that it doesn't come easy. and all the emotional complexity and depths that make characters feel so human and their struggles so real peaking at "ned loves my hair" and "i dreamed of you" and "he wondered what it's like to have a home" and every line that is so simple but so sharp and raw it makes me wanna pull my hair scream cry sob throw up - none of it comes easy!! it takes time and effort and emotional work to write like this! of course it takes long!
not to mention that grrm's in his seventies and likely has some health issues that take time and energy to manage and that he doesn't mention publically because why would he? ALSO when you get older you tend to get tired more easily! and need more time to rest! like, that's why people usually retire in their sixties. but grrm keeps working! ALSO have you never experienced a burn out or a creative block after years of working on the same thing??
ALSO one of asoiaf's main theme is that any person in any circumstances deserves empathy and understanding!!
so while we all are waiting for next books it's so important to show our amazing beloved author respect and support and gratitude! all say thank you, thank you george rr martin and please take care and take your time!!
i liked show brienne for the most part for what she was (staunch, loyal, cautious) but upon reading the books it occurred to me just how necessary brienne’s endearing awkwardness, bravery, and hopefulness is in a world as grim and at times hopeless as asoiaf. she brings such light onto every page and you see it through her unrelenting kindness and her striving to see the good in people no matter what. instance after instance she proves it is possible to uphold the sanctity of knighthood and be a protector while still being empathetic and kindhearted and staying true to one’s word, which is something formal organisations such as the kingsguard no longer/do not subscribe to.
There’s something so poetically evil about Sansa embodying everything the realm wants a proper lady to be and then them all hating her for it. She cares about knights and songs, sewing and pretty dresses. And she’s scorned for it, naïve little girl who isn’t equipped to deal with the horrors of life. Because they don’t prepare women for the horrors of life despite the fact that they have to live in the same reality as all of the terrible deeds. Sansa embodies everything a young lady is supposed to and it ruins her life. The same way women are meant to bear heirs but they don’t tell them beforehand how it happens. It’s this sick fetishization of an ideal of women that they can never truly achieve because life isn’t ideal. Sansa is the picture of what they want women to be and it can never be enough still.
tired of cannibalism as a metaphor for love or sex. can we get into cannibalism as a metaphor for colonization.
