Fmab Ed doesn't get his body fully restored either bc he's got his automail leg still.

And also Ed did *temporarily* get his body back in 03. Before he ended up on the otherside of the Gate until COS; You can see he got his arm back and we can assume his leg got back.

So in 03 Al did fulfill his promise, but it was only for like 5 minutes lol

I just think about it from time to time (bullshit), Ed managed to keep his promise because he was able to get Al his body back, but because theyre stuck on the other side of the Gate, Theres no way to get Ed’s arm and leg returned to him, so Al cant fulfill his promise to Ed and that fills me with despair :,(

Also it's not just his shoulder bone, his left breast is deformed (malformed?) Because of the automail and how they had to attach it under his skin; So to further add kn the fact that he's probably gonna loose more tittuse and whatnot, I think he'll loose some bone as well. Maybe his shoulder bone (as i see it most attached to the automail port) as well as his collarbone.

It's attached to most of his shoulder blade (THATS THE WORX IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR) in the back if you look.

So I think his left breast would be fucked, as would his upper ribs (due to the port digging into the bone rather than soley being attached. I think his ribs on his left side would be sensitive and more prone to breaking because of that, but I don't know much about the human body), his collarbone, shoulder blade, and then various muscles, nerves anx blood vessels.

Oh I forgot about his blood vessels. HE PROBABALY HAD THOSE FUCKED TOO BECAUSE OF THE AUTOMAIL SURGERY.

So yeah, I think his uhh trapezius, sternocleidomastoid, splenius cervicis, rhomboides minor, and rhomboides major would be partially or completely removed to get rid of the port. But that being said his entire left side, including all that + the deltoid muscle, infraspinatus, teres minor, teres major, and serratus anterior, would be fucked because of getting rid of the port or just having it in the first place. That's not even getting into the scalene muscles, brachial plexus, and the other muscles there that allow neck movement.

Getting the port removed, not even accounting for the assumed shot nerves there, may end up in him not being able to move his neck fully. Or cause him even more bodily pains in the long run.

If he keeps his shoulder bone, which he might not given how the port is attached, then he'd probably have major difficulties with that shoulder even though he won't have anything to use it for (prosthetic or otherwise).

What I'm saying is he's gonna be more fucked up than he was going into that surgery (or surgeries).

And I also agree, I get frustrated with Ed getting his arm back. It makes me wanna throw him at a wall. And I also agree he wouldn't get automail ; I think that he'd at first be like "Yeah, I need to do get it again let's just do this." If he could even have automail attached in the first place. Which I don't think it could. I think he's going to have an empty shoulder.

Ive been thinking on the idea of Ed loosing his left arm at the end of fmab (bc lets face it, realsistivally he would) , and since tou agree with that last I checked I wanna know your opinion.

I personally don't think so bc his nerves most likely went *through* what was the port and into the arm when it was brought back and all; Therefore shooting the nerves. And the immediate usage of the arm, that probably wouldn't of helped with him clapping his hands and slaminv them down on concrete. Or whatever stone it is.

And then follow up question; Do you think Ed would even *want* to get new automail?

i agree with you tbh. realistically, i don't really think ed would be able to get automail again after that. not only would the nerves and intricate connections get fucked up through the reattachment of the arm, but i can also see it really messing up all the tissue behind and around his port too.

if you look at pictures of him post-amputation pre-automail, his entire shoulder is still there. the whole arm is gone, but the torso portion is intact. and then, when you look at his port after he gets automail installed, you can clearly see that it goes further into his shoulder. they had to take out a lot of tissue to make room for that thing, which is also the main reason i find it really hard to suspend my disbelief that his arm would even attach again after al trades himself. but on top of that, if we say his tissues, like... spread the density out a bit to make up for what the rockbells shaved off, then that's still gonna fuck the region up majorly. probably even worse than it would have been normally, since you can't really make all that tissue un-stretch and un-rearrange itself.

in short, not only would his nerves probably be shot, but i think he would also lose even more of that shoulder. basically, FUCK no

in my day 1 edling fic i DID give him new automail, but that's mainly because the adhd was kicking my ass for most of the leadup to the week and i didn't have time to work out the kinks of his arm, which also applies toooooooooooo

your other question! frankly, i think he wouldn't!

let's say for a moment that he DOES lose the arm, and he somehow isn't fucked up enough to render new automail not an option. his plan after he and al recover is to go and explore and research, right? having two arms, albeit one of them being automail and probably more painful and with less utility and control than thr first time around, would certainly be really useful.

but i can't see him wanting to go through that again. i think he's more likely to make peace with it -- maybe at first he's lost and confused and isn't entirely sure what he'll do, but i think the pain and inconvenience and memories that would come with it wouldn't be worth it to him. to me, it's sort of like how he says he willingly decided to keep the automail leg as a reminder of all his years and experiences, except with the leg, the hypothetical is getting his flesh and blood one back -- which i also doubt would work very well, but probably better than the arm if he got the port removed and taken care of before reattaching -- while with the arm, it's getting automail again. if that makes any sense whatsoever.

so ya! no to both tbh! i'd really like to write a fic to explore this at some point. i get ridiculously angry if i think too hard about ed getting his arm back in canon so i think it's something i would enjoy a lot.

tl;dr: ed's shoulder is fucked beyond repair, and if it wasn't, he'd make his peace with it
