Fellow TTTE author inbound!! This is so stinking cute, I’m gonna go read the whole thing as soon as I’m done with writing because inspiration has struck and I mustn’t be distracted by cute engines being cute!

Hold Me Fast ~ A 2 x 5 fic

There's another titter, and it seems Edward is otherwise amused, his own cheeks darkening as he sends a teasingly quirked brow the mogul’s way, “Does that surprise you, James? Truly?”

“No!” He blurts far too quickly, like he might be able to preserve some dignity, but it comes out louder and more abashed than he’d like. Because he knows deep down that it really doesn’t surprise him at all. And Edward’s laugh is light and sunny, his eyes softening all over again, “No… Because you’re… well you’re kind! And… and good. And I–”

“Mmmhmm,” Edward hums in that knowing way of his, his smile twitching at the corners, and James swallows, feeling smaller than he is. But it’s different. It’s not humiliating, like when he’s having whatever lesson he has to learn rubbed in his face, or when he’s so terribly sorry for the hurt he’s caused. It’s different, like a lot of things are with Edward.

And that’s just it, isn’t it?

Wrote this because I couldn't get over how thematically delicious the ropes are in Old Iron, how opposites attract, and how Edward has always been there for James since day one, since he was sick, since he was a runaway, and they've been bound together ever since. With that long, slow-burning kind of love that they don't ever put a name to, but they know it's there, whether they recognize and understand it or not.

So I’ve decided to turn the Thomas and Friends characters into Pokémon for fun. James is up first as the beautiful Ninetails! It’s just a recoloring of the official Ninetails artwork but it was a lot of fun all the same. I’m only doin Gen 1 for this because that’s the one I grew up with. But anyway, heeeeeeeeere’s JAMES!!!!

Would you mind telling us a bit more about your brothers, Camille?

Camille: Sure! They’re all pretty awesome in their own way.

My oldest brother is Zephyr and he’s a ship, though I don’t know all the ins and outs of his job. He’s worked for the oil rigs out in the ocean on several occasions. We… don’t always see eye to eye. He’s very crass and he speaks with a lot of sarcasm and bluntness. He means well, but he can sometimes be seen as cold.

Midas is the next brother and he’s a former fighter jet for the US military and has basically gone into retirement from fighting and got himself refitted as a Blue Angel for the Navy. He absolutely loves his job and it was always his dream to be a Blue Angel. He’s a bit hard to talk too some days because he’s so business/military oriented.

Bull is next. He’s an air ambulance and the only other flying brother. He’s a lot of fun but he’s your typical southern/Texas man. He’s all about hunting, fishing, rodeos, etc. He’s the type to come home and get into relaxing clothes and turn on John Wayne. He reminds me the most of my dad…er…builder. They were really, really close and I think he took it the hardest when he passed.

Lastly is Rocket and he’s an ambulance! Him and Bull work together often and they are freaking an awesome team. In fact, I was learning basic life support (BLS) from him before I had to move. We are crazy close, only a few years between the two of us. He’s also crazy overprotective of me and gets emotional easily. He’s tough in his own way but real sensitive. We used to do all sorts of stuff together from video games to playing tether ball and being generally goofy. I miss him a lot but he’s not too thrilled about my relationship with Gordon, which irritates me because he doesn’t even know him and is being a punk because of his size.

Hope this helps!! They’re great guys, really, but they can be tough sometimes. I’m really trying to keep what’s happening with Diesel 10 away from their ears. If they find out… well, it’ll be a fight to stay on Sodor that’s for sure.

James: Does Edward count as an instrument?

Edward: Why am I getting married to you?

Camille: I know a little piano, but that’s it.

Gordon: We work on a very busy railway and are up early till the day is through. We don’t have time for that sort of thing.

Percy: But we can whistle!

Camille: I guess that kind of counts… It does make a noise.

Thomas: Does it though?

Percy: Well, I like to think it does!

Traintober is a writing or art exercise where someone in the TTTE community puts together a list of prompts for each day in October for others to follow along with! I’ve seen people do every single one, but if only a few resonate and get your juices flowing then that’s alright too. It’s a lot of fun!
