Well, here we are at the end. I really hoped Reddit would've caved, compromised to community requests. But I guess that hope was misplaced. With so much enshittification going on recently, I don't know why I expected this to be different. Maybe because it's just been a part of me for so long.

Reddit was formative for me. I quite literally grew up on it, starting in middle school until mid-20s adult right now. My worldview was shaped by it and the communities I consumed. Political punk teen to gaming addict to engineering student and cooking hobbyist. It was local news, world news, community news all in one place. Entertainment and culture, too. I especially don't want to undersell the effect it had on my transition. The information available and the shared experiences of trans reddit were absolutely invaluable to me. A key component of successfully and succinctly finding what I wanted and pursuing it.

So many of these spaces are going to be lesser now. I know I will struggle to not return, to not relapse. But my 3rd party app of choice today pushed a notification informing of its last day of functionality. The unfortunate truth is that Reddit will continue on just fine. They'll go public, make profit, and continue to squeeze the users-remaining who simply don't care to care. Another burning ember of contempt toward capitalism, economics, the free market -- whatever you want to call it. Whatever you want to call the endless march towards profits.
