About Uchiha Izumi

Since the whole Uchiha clan is alive and well in Flip The Coin, I decided to feature her, the only sensible Uchiha around. Most of the things I said about Izumi in chapter 5 are canon (expect like she’s maybe not the youngest sharingan user? She just awoke it younger than Itachi and I made that leap cause she deserves it) from fillers and novels, but I’m not actually familiar with it, I’ve just read the wikia. And MY but what a painful read. I mean I’m used to the Naruto girls being treated like garbage, but this was so much worse.

“Believing that ending her life first would quell his inner doubts, [Itachi] proceeded to kill her and her mother first. As he lured her mother away, Itachi approached Izumi and placed her in an extremely powerful Tsukuyomi where she lived the entirety of her life in 0.00000000001 seconds. In her dream, she became a chūnin, retired from shinobi life to become Itachi’s wife and raise their children, and lived to become eighty years old before dying of old age alongside Itachi. Because her mind was departed from reality in such a manner, Izumi collapsed into Itachi’s arms dying. Izumi thanked Itachi for giving her the life she wanted with him, even if it was a dream, and Itachi thanked her for loving him as she passed away.”

I had to read this with my own two eyes and now so have you. What the fuck. I mean really, what the fuck. And this happened like, late in the manga. REALLY late. Late enough that there had been plenty of butchered female characters in Naruto before and plenty of criticism about it. So how. Why. Why would they do that. Did no one stop to think that maybe this was a terrible idea? The worst thing in that they actually tried to sell this as… tragically romantic? Somehow? My eyes are bleeding.

So it is highly probable (not so say absolutely certain) that her relationship with Itachi won’t get romantic in that fic. He didn’t actually do any of that in there but… Like I can’t do that to her. I can’t. They’ll stay friends though and she’ll help pull his head out of his ass. Hopefully.

Does anyone remember that filler episode in which Itachi is in his childhood home with Sasuke and tries to make fried eggs for him and for some reason but for the benefit of the plot he ends up chasing a chicken?

I was thinking that maybe... after his death Itachi's soul was trapped in the moment when his life stopped, in the moment when he killed his parents and had to hurt his younger brother.

That's why you can only see him inside the house and no one else.

Writing this I realized that in some official art you can see Itachi's soul smiling behind Sasuke... what if Itachi's soul is alone, waiting in the void for his younger brother?

Do you think it is important for the storytelling that he had a gf? It felt like Kishi dropped that line just add more draaaama to that “revealing the truth” scene

well, honestly? nope, i think they just gave him a love interest for nothing.

i honestly hate ita/izu lol (but for personal reasons) i think it was not necessary at all!! i mean... more drama? the angst? they did create izumi just so she would die like that.... why?? or maybe to make him straight she only existed so people would be like "oh itachi had a female love interest, so sad... she died by the person she loved..." i mean?? why?? izumi barely had meaning to the storytelling, barely had development, poor thing only was there for drama material.

yes, the way itachi killed her was poetic and beautiful, but... i mean, if you never heard of the novel, you're not missing a thing. in the anime, she had like a minute or two of screentime?

btw i dont hate izumi's character; i just dislike why they created her

The only time Itachi smiles like this, so openly, is this moment from a filler episode. Every time else he's always so reserved as if his facial muscles aren't used to be used to express happiness or even the slightest of joy.

This is one of his "happier" moments because he's spending time with his brother, but his expression of happiness is still so lacklustre as if he can't be more open to what he feels. It's like all the burdens and responsibilities at such a young age had separated him from all the worldly things kids his age should indulge in even more. There's a flashback of Sasuke's memories when they meet after Itachi's death. And even there his smile lacks the feeling of happiness.
