i feel like every time i talk about the branwen semblances it's super angsty, so here's something different: i think it's actually really fucking funny how qrow would like to keep his distance to his friends and family due to his semblance... and then you've got raven's semblance which leads directly to him, no matter how far he tries to go. there's no escape.

and i know it's common to think that in terms of partnerships in team strq, qrow partnering with someone other than raven would have been bad luck to him bc they wanted to stick together, etc., but like. i feel like it could very well be the other way around; qrow would have been more than happy to partner with a random person so he doesn't have to worry about his semblance that much—if he was already planning to be a lone huntsman like the grimm reaper, he wouldn't have been looking to make friends, necessarily—bc that would have meant he wouldn't have to 'endanger' raven, only for raven to portal to him before they even landed.

These are just ramblings from an exhausted person who didn’t get nearly enough sleep but like if CRWBY was going to be lazy and reuse Yang and Ruby’s models for Summer and Raven…why not like actually use it for storytelling. Have Taiyang sad when he looks at his girls because they remind him painfully of the woman he loved and how they’re gone. Have Raven not be able to look at Ruby during the volume 5 battle for Haven because all she sees is Summer and how disappointed Summer is in her. It especially works if we’re meant to believe Raven ran because of what happened to Summer. Have people comment to Ruby that when they first met her they thought she was Summer or just something.

Like if we’re just going to be lazy at least utilize it for story purposes. Really sell how Ruby feels pressured to be as good as her mom and feeling trapped in her shadow. Something to at least pretend to justify the copy and past job.

monarchy has no real purpose and should be abolished irl but im a slut for royal families in fiction. the politics. the intrigue. families divided by the eyes of a nation. the pressure of children told from birth that they are born to rule, born for only one purpose. the stifling of empathy and real bonds and love. the loneliness when all eyes are on you. it’s so inherently tragic and yet everyone involved is terrible because that’s all they can be. gimme.
