adric being my favourite doctor who companion is so difficult because not only do the fandom not really acknowledge him, neither does the ACTUAL SHOW. one word mention out of DECADES of episodes.

love love LOVE how I came into s18 and s19 ready to love Adric, assuming, in my limited knowledge of him, that he was mischaracterized by being in a TARDIS full of haters and being autistic in the 1980's. I cheer everytime he's on screen, even when he's just standing like a mannequin in the bg because i guess the writers forgot to give him a personality in half his scenes.

And while that is mostly the case , i'm now on Four To Doomsday, and i cannot help but wince at the fact that the writers decided he's a misogynist (?????) for this episode. Like each story they want him to be the flawed genius, which is an interesting angle to take, but each writer picks a different fucking flaw since it seems they hate him, and i just igsfj lkajfjfh akehhfuawhuhkfajdh i want him to be pookie so bad but cmon adricccc cmonnnn pleaseeeeeeee

(if anyone can recommend any big finish audio dramas of other EU stuff where they write Adric with actual care and attention, please do so i am suffering out here)

I remember seeing somewhere that Nyssa was described as the wallflower of the S19 group....bro they literally go to a party (Black Orchid) and Nyssa makes him dance and then he just eats off to the side watching people the rest of the time i love him your honor he's literally me frfr

also nyssa's dumb shiny outfit gave me no stamina left for her hair so excuse the scribblyness of it. thought halfway through that maybe they should be in their Black Orchid outfits until i remembered that they are pretty rancid (also adric's hair is the bane of my existance he looks like an undertale human with his ever-changing genderless shag)

YES!!! Adric is genuinely up there as one of my favorite doctor who characters of all time. He:

is overflowing with autism, and doesn't want to leave the TARDIS half the time because he wants to sit in bed and read math books

has the silliest little androgynous haircut one episode, then absolutely atrocious hair the next

doesn't know how gender works

shows no respect to anyone except the Doctor who he repeatedly beats people up for

walked so Jimmy Neutron and Sheldon Cooper could run

would kiss a boy, but also would say "ew" if you said you like liked him

sucks up to basically every villain, which is a very interesting thing to explore as a writer, but instead everyone just looks at him and goes "you suck stop it"

was the audience surrogate as a fanboy of the show, but he was also from a different fucking universe (which is never brought up again really???? like e-space is just for Adric, no one else gets that)

got blown up because the writers thought he was too cringe

gave the redemption arc HE SHOULD HAVE HAD and was crammed into Earthshock to Turlough, who I'm still developing my opinion on but I've settled somewhere around "ehh you're okay" with so far

sorry to word vomit on you but adric!!! ADRIC!!!!!!!! it's hard to talk about him because he was relevant *checks notes* 43 years ago, but he is my blorbo of the month and thank you for the ask. We all do need a little orphaned math boy in our lives 💖💖💖
