I'm fricken stupid as hell having these kinds of revelations days after the fact, but I read a character analysis on Alec that tapped into the reason his power is the way it is; that it takes 15 min to an hour to act, can only control a max of 4 at a time and that his nerve map memory imprint thing or whatever that lets him resume control instantly is basically permanent, and how all of that was because he's the kind of Master who only needs a small group to stand up for him and protect him (the other members of his family/HB's cult) vs someone like Taylor's Master power where she needed minions that could be found everywhere, which could watch everything and attack from every direction. Alec needing members of his family to physically act in his defense (rather than feel emotions for him or have his mind take over theirs) but getting an ability to force them to do so. <- All of this covered by the post, just bringing it up to give context to my thought;
DOESN'T THIS RECONTEXTUALIZE AISHA WILLINGLY GIVING HERSELF OVER TO HIM?!
All his minions during his warlord arc are probably paid for, or weren't aware that being around him 24/7 meant he could hijack their nerves.
But here comes Aisha and she's like "I want you to take over my body." and I was initially thinking ooh it's just a parahuman version of sexual experimentation, teenagers do that, I get it, I won't pretend it doesn't happen but DOESNT THIS MEAN SHE BASICALLY ASKED HIM TO GIVE HER HIS TRUST? Like, all he needed to not trigger was probably someone in his family or the tight knit cult standing up to Heartbreaker (not going to happen) but still? And Aisha is coming along and saying "I'm that someone. I trust you. You can trust me. You're not your father, you won't abuse this, I'm giving you consent under the jokey teenager, not serious guise of fooling around with you wearing my skin."
Maybe that plays into why Aisha goes after Heartbreaker, why she adopts the Heartbroken and why she makes that her mission. To continue his legacy after his death, to be the kind of person the Heartbroken needed the way Alec needed someone. She does kinda do that with Taylor too, fucking up Nero later on, though beyond those two examples I kinda struggle to nail down where she's continued a loved one's legacy. Oh, except maybe where she helps Taylor in Brian's place during GM. That could work too.

alecs first time possessing aisha. it was probably weird to feel something other than anger in someone else for him.
Forgive me if I'm thinking about this wrong, but does Regent/Alec have a kind of people-sensing minor ability? It would make sense if Masters had a minor way to find their minions or potential minions using their powers. Taylor has her bugs in her range and has it always on because of her whole panopticon of bullying theme.
Would it make sense that Regent can feel people nearby, as a tingling on the nerves? Like that extremely uncomfortable ripple up your spine you feel when someone untrustworthy is behind you, or if you're being touched on the arm and they run their fingers along a sensitive nerve? Maybe it's too distracting to be a power. Maybe it has to be line of sight first, and then when his power becomes entrenched, then he can feel his minions through walls.
I was brainstorming about how his power might be used in endbringer fights, and maybe his nerve sense might work on people buried in the rubble.

what you do have to hand to alec is that its really miraculous how many social interactions he Doesnt fuck up. like every time he speaks to anyone and the entire conversation doesnt go up in flames that should be a gold star on his good boy chart

still re undersiders body swap cartoon episode just in a new post because the thread was getting long. this may be overestimating alec's ability to be a good boy but i genuinely do think alec is Invested Enough In Being A Good Boy that this would not be a big problem. it would only be a medium problem. because, like, the danger of alec suddenly having vast quantities of information about his friends psyches is that he does what lisa notes him to be prone to and underestimates the seriousness of something and lets it slip. but that danger is minimized when he's also receiving a live feed of information about precisely how serious [insert emotional thing here] is to [insert undersider here]. i think he would do what he often does when he realizes he's in over his head wrt handling a problem involving Feelings and just kind of like. sit very quietly and very still at the back of the team. while staring into the middle distance and occasionally making a strange poorly contained facial expression. and also one (1) time he would notice far too much about taylors feelings about brian or rachels muscles or whatever and then try to make a joke about it and receive a live feed of information about how he just made her feel embarrassed and bad and also like he's trying to bully her and how she's worried that he's learning lots of things about her psyche and is judging everything and so on. to which he would respond by getting defensively upset about being perceived as that mean and do a terrible job of backpedaling out without actually undergoing the vulnerability of apologizing or admitting that being perceived that way upsets him. and then he would go back to sitting and staring into space very quietly

How i wish they had an arc we're they'd improve their relationship!! Please after interlude 10. I was hoping for them to slowly build friendship but noooo! And the thing is TAYLOR WILL NEVER FIND OUT HOW REGENT WAS THE REASON WHO GOT THE EVIDENCE ON SOPHIA AND GOT INTO JUVENILE!! she thinks it was tattletale's DOING! (btw. I love you lisa!)
please this art is just my wishful thinking on how i wish we no Taylor got to know more of Alec. Cause in some different way i think they would be trusted friends. I miss you my boi!!!!

AAAGH LOOK AGAIN! I think everyone on Wormblr deserves to see and remember Imp as much as possible. Canonically photographs of her disappear and fade out her image, but would in-universe fanart disappear? Paintings? Could artistic expression be enough to create enough degrees of separation from her actual image that her power can't wipe her away? You know what my next question is, of course.
Regent, with his canon artistic skills, should've drawn or painted something of her everyone could remember her by.

isnt it crazy how imp gets countered by like 2 capes and theyre both heartbroken? like regent can control her (although she can escape if he falls asleep) and cherish can sense her even when her stranger power is up. if i was more adept at vasilposting i would say that this was related to how she only really finds people she can relate with amongst the heartbroken and this is shown through them being able to break through her veil of being forgotten. but im not. so i wont.

Interesting part of Alec's power is the timeframe for it. At best he can take someone over in 15 min, but it can also take hours. With Cherish we see her affect Ballistic in an instant, Heartbreaker is probably similar, but for Alec the best he can manage is messing with limbs. With how long fights actually take, he'll never be able to hijack anyone in one. Pretty much the only time he could take someone over is if he actively goes after them.
And that makes sense with what his situation was when he got powers. He didn't really want strangers to come and help him. Heroes have tried and failed and that only makes his living situation worse and his dad more quick to anger. He wants the people he's familiar with, the people that are constantly around him to step in and help. But they don't, so his power forces them to, so long as he knows them and knows them well.
(Can't remember if you've talked about this particular aspect of his power before @lakesbian but I saw you're recent post and started thinking)

the undersiders are really funny because every single teenager on that team is fucked up in a unique and extraordinarily weird way and yet all of them are convinced that they're the single normal person on the team. every undersider team meeting involves all of them thinking "what freaks....i'm the only normal one here" simultaneously
item one: during the fight with bakuda, bakuda detonates a bomb that melts a hostage of hers into Flesh Goop. alec says the guy being melted into Flesh Goop "...was pretty cool." he is clearly making this statement for the purposes of a. getting bakuda to preen and monologue (thus prolonging the time until she decides to explode the undersiders) and b. trying to get bakuda to let him near the Flesh Gooped body (presumably so he could grab the gun the hostage had been holding while still alive and ungooped). nonetheless, the statement is genuine, which is the only reason why it actually works for getting her to monologue
item two: after taylor knocks lung out a second time, she calls tattletale's phone to ask tattletale to confirm that lung will regenerate any missing body parts before she pries his eyeballs out. alec answers instead, and ignores taylor's code yellow to immediately say "You wouldn’t believe it. We found one of Bakuda’s workshops. The stuff she has here is crazy." when taylor says that she needs to talk to tattletale, he tells her that "She’s checking the place for booby traps. Distractions probably aren’t a good idea." this implies that lisa felt she needed to be so careful while checking for traps that she couldn't even risk keeping her phone on her and being startled by a ringtone or distracted by a call, hence why it was alec's job to hold her phone and act as her secretary.
item three: "crazy" is at least one or two steps up in magnitude from "pretty cool," as far as descriptions of how interesting something is go. it can thus be assumed that whatever was in the workshop was severely more alarming than watching a guy get melted into Flesh Goop
conclusion: i like to imagine that whatever they found in bakuda's workshop was absolutely batshit fucking nightmare-inducing insane and lisa was literally having a more stressful day than taylor doing 5000 calculations per second to keep everyone from blowing up forever while alec stood in a corner and did a very polite job of not touching anything
