37: a kiss to the back of the neck
Aarons mattress at the Columbia house is old. It’s lumpy and it’s uneven from never being rotated and it’s fucking uncomfortable. But it suffices and is the perfect oasis for Aaron when he’s tired and drunk and his feet hurt from being at Eden’s.
When Kevin starts abandoning his place on the couch to join Aaron in his bed, they run into another problem. The lumpy, old mattress is definitely too small for two grown men to be sharing. Even if one said grown man is only 5 foot.
What makes the mattress too small is the fact that Kevin sprawls his 6’2 body out over the entire bed like a starfish when he’s drunk. It pushes Aaron to the very edge of his own bed and it makes Aaron question how he ever slept on the couch. The worst part is, Kevin is all dead weight when he’s asleep and there’s no chance for Aaron to shove him aside.
He debates kicking Kevin out of his room every single night before he inevitably falls asleep on whatever sliver of bed is left for him, entirely too inebriated and exhausted to loose sleep over it.
One night, however, Kevin leaves him no sliver of mattress and Aaron is too tired to wake Kevin up to get him to move. Instead he climbs onto the bed and latches onto Kevin’s back like a koala.
Kevin is warm and his shoulder makes for a surprisingly comfortable pillow. He nuzzles himself closer to Kevin, soaking in all of the heat radiating off of him.
He presses soft, lazy kisses to the back of Kevin’s neck and over his shoulder blades as he dozes off. Kevin hums under him and the vibration affirms Aaron’s thoughts.
It doesn’t matter that his mattress is old and lumpy and entirely too small when this is the solution.

the best advice i can give when it comes to characterization, either in writing fanfic and building off an existing character or making your own, is the following:
at the very core of it all, what does your character want ?
what are they willing to do to get it? what will they sacrifice? what will they lose?
will it be worth it?
