Art Studies - Tumblr Posts

Just a bunch of Sketchbook pages. I currently am experimenting a lot with style. Most of the things you see here used references from Pinterest. (other than that TB Choi page, I was studying her by looking at her work on Insta, trying to figure out how she is using shapelanguage to design her characters).
The first 3 pages are my recent ones while the other 3 are from the last two month.
Art Supplies used:
Some Pencil Colors that I found under my bed while I cleaned my room (it's a wild mix of 10 year old Aldi Pencil colors, Polychromos and these Art Grip colorpencils that Faber Castell manifactured back in the 10's
A moleskine Sketchbook
A noname Mechanical pencil that I found at the dollarstore, a blending stomp, an 8b pencil, a 9B graphite stick. a kneaded eraser, a normal eraser.. and an ungodly amount of coffee!
A wild musicmix of Jack Stauber, Coalter of the Deepers, Roar and some Eurovision tracks. And gaming soundtracks. Obviously.

Don't mind me, I'm just an artist , being addicted to my ballpoint pen!

Art studies, but turn them all into blorbos

The Souls of Acheron by Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl

The moment I saw that painting...
I knew what I have to do

I have to do this
Not dead
I just had another week of me not being at home and therefore not being able to draw
But now I'm back
Here, take those random studies as an apology

Just some quick and simple water studies, to get into the swing of things all over again.
Something I try to keep in mind when making art that looks vintage is keeping a limited color pallette. Digital art gives you a very wide, Crisp scope of colors, whereas traditional art-- especially older traditional art-- had a very limited and sometimes dulled use of color.
This is a modern riso ink swatch, but still you find a similar and limited selection of colors to mix with. (Mixing digitally as to emulate the layering of ink riso would be coloring on Multiply, and layering on top of eachother 👉)

If you find some old prints, take a closer look and see if you can tell what colors they used and which ones they layered... a lot of the time you'll find yellow as a base!

Misprints can really reveal what colors were used and where, I love misprints...
Something else I keep in the back of my mind is: how the human eye perceives color on paper vs. a screen. Ink and paint soaks into paper, it bleeds, stains, fades over time, smears, ect... the history of a piece can show in physical wear. What kind of history do you want to emulate? Misprinted? Stained? Kept as clean as possible, but unable to escape the bluing damages of the sun? It's one of my favorite things about making vintage art. Making it imperfect!

You can see the bleed, the wobble of the lines on the rug, the fading, the dirt... beautiful!!
Thinking in terms of traditional-method art while drawing digital can help open avenues to achieving that genuine, vintage look!

Heyo friends! ^-^
Wanna know how an artist works out??
Why, they use their own hand as reference while standing at a tilted drawing board, of course!
That being said, have some studies I'm doing right now :]
(featuring both of my hands, har har)
(and my eyeball, I gave up on trying to find The Right Reference™)

...But seriously though, holding your arm out in front of you like that while trying to get a decent sketch down before you lose energy is a challenge and a half, I might even go as far as to say two :']
My arm started shaking around halfway through TT>TT
Inpromptu art workouts and corny jokes aside, I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day! 🧡
Yours truly, Stickbug 🪲

Hair Studies 💇🏻♀️
For a good while, I wasn't fully satisfied in how I draw and render hair so I decided to finally sit down and do some studies.
Still need to get more practise in but I think I made good progress 👍

some form breakdown drawings i did for class

Art studies, Salem and Nibiru. Now I kind of have to paint the other three as well.

Lol I'm trying to experiment on more face drawings, so here are some of my studies!
(Srry, I meant to post sooner but my dumbass forgot 💀)
Pinterest got some really good refs if anyone interested 👍

Wolf doodles (barring the top middle, but close enough!) 🐺 doing studies cuz it's lowkey relaxing.
Refs: christinebian, bottom right Katy Hargrove.

wolf sketches pt 2
all ref-ed from @christinebian

canine studies pt 3
I just consider it as part of my wolf studies since close enough, but I can't properly call them wolves when they're so doggo-like lol. And harnessed.
As always all ref-ed from @christinebian :3

weasel studies pt 1.
I didn't realize they were so tiny!! They're about the size of an outstretched human hand, apparently. I thought they were the size of cats.
Also pretty sure at least one of them here is a stoat lol. As with my wolf studies, I'm going to just say ✨ close enough✨ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
