Whumptober Day 2: "They Don't Care About You."
Fandom: Nimona
Summary: A story from when Ballister was younger. Todd never was nice to him, even when they were young.
Waring: Some violence
Ballister didn't want to be here. He didn't want Todd to be looking over him. He felt small even if he was only a bit shorter than him. He held him to the wall, not letting him do so much as move.
Boldheart looked past Todd to his fellow knights in training. They had never helped him before so he didn't really know why he tried.
Sureblade grabbed Ballister's face and forced him to look at him, "they won't help you."
Hands wrapped around the man's throat, "They don't care about you."
Pulling his arms up, Bal clawed at Todd's hands. He scratched himself but the marks on Todd's hands were worse.
The world started to feel strange. He eyed the other who had all gone back to what they had been doing but faster.
That's when he realized, they truly didn't care about him. Here he was being choked out and they would rather finish what they're doing then help. They would rather let him suffer then do anything at all.
They other trainees sure but what about Ambrosius? What about him? And the Director? Did she care? The queen? The one who believed in him from the beginning, the one who gave him a chance?
Did they pity him? Did they care? What would he do if they didn't? What if he was alone after all? What if Todd was right?
The world started to fade. Ballister tried kicking at Todd but nothing worked. As his vision blurred he stopped fighting so hard.
After a moment Todd tossed him to the ground. Leaving him unconscious on the dirty floor.
When Ballister awoke on the floor, alone, he didn't bother getting up yet. He lied on the floor knowing he needed to get up anyway. He stood and looked at the wall then to the rest of the room.
Meeting his eyes in the mirror felt cold and lonely. But he was lonely. Ballister walked over to the mirror and punched the glass. Then, with a bloody hand he walked towards the door.
No one had come to look for him. Maybe Todd was right he thought, maybe no one cared about him.
Ballister has become one of my blorbos. He’s sweet, compassionate, has an open mind, is gay and in a loving relationship, and he’s a true knight.

I love the headcanon that Ambrosius is the most wanted (you know what I mean) man in the kingdom, because I can just imagine him sending something like this to Ballister right after they start dating:

Ballister with Cat Ears because why not. If you're asking where he got them from it was probably Nimona who dared him. This is the most baby girl coded character I've ever seen and I love it
My Wish-Nimona Conspiracy Theory
*This is completely speculative and I'm sure can be proven wrong by some research but I'm not going to do that*
My theory is Disney tried to kill 2 birds with one stone when they shut down Blue Sky 1. To cancel Nimona 2. To use the assets/ideas from Nimona
Saying something like this is pretty controversial I get it but here's my evidence: 1. Both the movies are the only ones who use the same new type of artstyle, that being 3D blended with Watercolor. Nimona's style was literally achieved by repainting everything to give it that storybook-esque aesthetic.
2. Ballister and King Magnifico look way too similar. To that I say Ballister's design has been in the works since at least 2016.
Obviously Ballister is far more well executed and superior than Magnifico, but that's not the point of this post.
But Ballister is designed to look like a generic villain, down to the facial hair, the scar, ...the queer-coding, but if Magnifico's design is not copied then he just looks and acts like a generic sexy villain. So its either copied or its lazy, you decide which is worse.
3. This the point that made me want to write this post, that is in the concept art of Wish, the Wishing star was a shapeshifting boy.
Now its entirely possible that Disney was just Lazy and chose to go with a marketable plush than a well flushed character as it save time and brings money. But it is not completely absurd to think that Disney chose to copy this idea from Nimona, and that they had to do damage control when they realised Nimona is getting released, that too before their own movie and hence this was done to avoid being accused of plagiarism. If you want to get technical and if this was Disney's intention, to get rid of the studio and the movie to use its assets, it is theft. Again all of this is speculation.
And if they had gone with Star boy, that would have been far too many coincidences to not raise any eyebrows. So now its upto you to decide: Was it Disney's intention to copy Nimona from the beginning, or is it just a coincidence? But that's just a theory...
Testing out some new ideas, I honestly just wanted an excuse to draw naked Ballister.
If I had to imagine where this lands in the movie, it would be when he finally looks at himself after the whole incident, and realizing this is what the world sees him as now, a disgraced knight who turned on his kingdom.
I think I'm going to post a part 3 for this because at this point, it would be criminal not to.

Initially I thought this wouldn't make the most sense because of all the age gaps but then i realised everyone doesn't have to be a student.
Ballister and Ambrosius can be Nimona's teachers and keep the parent dynamic going!

Please ignore Ballister's proportions I didn't notice at the time, this took me 3 hours so that's why
Nimona is a problem gender fluid kid who is essentially homeless until she meets ballister, who gets her enrolled in the private high school he teaches and eventually adopts her after finding out about her homelessness (about 3 months into their relationship).
Meanwhile, Ballister is in a secret relationship with Ambrosius, who isn't as well respected as a teacher because the staff treats him like a nepotism child. This would've affected him some time ago, but now he's in a relationship with Ballister. Their relationship is a secret because homophobia.
Ballister is attached to Nimona because her circumstances remind him of his own when he was her age, and wants to guide her to live a better life. Nimona gets a sports scholarship to go off to a good college, Ballister and Ambrosius come out of the closet and get married, Ambrosius leaves the high school to pursue his true passion and leave the family business.
And they lived happily ever after yaaaay.

Headcanon: Ambrosius hates his job. He was in it for the family business, now he's in it for our pookie Ballister.
They're like teenagers, Ballister being the shy goody goody teacher, Ambrosius being the rebellious bad boy nepo baby.
In the end:
Nimona goes off to college under a sports thing
Ballister gets a better job
Ambrosius helps Ballister in any way and becomes a glorified house husband
All these headcanons are in good fun and are not meant to offend anybody thanksssss.

I find it funny how the only Ambrosius and Nimona are losing their shit over the fact Ambrosius cut off Ballister's arm, yet Ballister couldn't be bothered about it 😭
I get that knighting ceremonies typically happen around this age but THEY DON'T LOOK 20. Lowest I will take is about 27.
Also in my mind Ballister (and Ambrosius <3) is Nimona's father, but Nimona is already confirmed to be 15. A little age gap is ok.
Also this movie is the only kids movie to feature a protagonist who looks as old as Ballister (which is much older than 22) and he's a hot Dilf, not whatever people are in their 20s.
Lastly, Comic Ballister and Ambrosius are definitely more than 30 (I think, I can't cite my source).

WIP. I have exams so for now this is going to be my last drawing post.
It's movie meets comic ballister where he has given up on proving his innocence and has vowed to take down the institute and the director. Ambrosius is always the main captain who's trying to chase him down, but neither of them can come to doing serious harm on each other, and even though they're broken up they still love each other #angst.
I promise the sexual tension will be much better in the final product please don't unfollow me.

Found Family. Nimona wanted a friend, found a boss, and ended up with a dad.
Even though this movie didn't win the Oscar's, it's definitely still one of the best animated movies of all time (this is not my opinion this is a fact). The reason I love this movie so much is because it has paved the way for animated movies to come, for them to have more positive queer representation in kids media.
This movie deserves more recognition than it currently has. Thank you team Nimona for making one of my favourite movies of all time.
