Taichi, to the both of them: You guys look like you're in so much pain...

[puts head in hands] banri is just so fucking accepting and openminded it is. probably his core moral. the most obvious example of course being his response to taichi’s confession, where everyone else (rightfully!) expressed anger or sadness or disappointment with him, banri was on the ball, coming up with a solution, his portrait, show us why you did this. make us understand, but there’s so many others. his immediate fondness for kumon, despite him being kind of a little shit at first / being the brother of his rival. how he was the only one who wasn’t judgmental when everyone was assuming azuma was a sex worker. how despite his own reputation, he didn’t see omi any differently when he found out his past.
such an intrinsic part of how he interacts with other people is trying to know where they’re coming from. it’s subconscious. that’s why it surprises people - because he seems so rude and crass, but he’s actually always listening, always paying attention to everyone around him, to such a degree that he can be thoughtful and considerate offhandedly. that’s why he’s always popular - not because “his life’s on easy mode”, because people like people who care about them. because there’s one thing banri admits he’s bad at - he doesn’t understand why other people struggle. so he fucking pays attention.
When Sakyo wasn't around
Taichi, to Omi: So you're like our mom! Team mom! Team mom!
Banri, joining in: TEAM MOM! TEAM MOM! TEAM MOM!
Omi: I'm not Team Mom...
Summer Troupe: Team Mom! Team Mom!
Omi: Tenma?! Why are you and the Summer Troupe joining in?!
