Birthdaygate is a brilliant, heartbreaking and very logical theory in my opinion.
BUT HAVE WE THOUGHT ABOUT HOW REALLY CRUEL IT IS?? ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THIS WILL BYERS WAS EXCITED BECAUSE HE THOUGHT MIKE HAD WENT TO CALIFORNIA TO SEE HIM ESPECIALLY ON HIS BIRTHDAY???
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THIS WILL BYERS THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY WITH HIS BEST FRIEND AND THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE BETTER AFTER THAT???
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT WILL BYERS GAVE MIKE A GIFT EVEN THOUGH HE WAS THE ONE'S BIRTHDAY, EXPECTING AT LEAST SOMETHING IN RETURN WHEN HE DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE A HUG??? That's Machiavellian. Poor creature. Just look at him. He looks so broken.
There were people celebrating birthdays at the Rincomania. Will must have seen them and wondered what's wrong with him to never get anything :(. IT'S DEVASTATING, I'M GOING TO THROW OFF A BUILDING.

just thinking of when robin was at the mall figuring out the russian code and then says "a trip to China sounds nice" and then the camera shows this:
I've brought this green dragon x trip to china thing up before bc apparently this is all I think about, but maybe just maybe it has something to do with the movie poster since the poster is about a guy whos "so oriental" and hes the "last dragon." Could be just a coincidence. But there's also Will's painting of the red dragon from dnd, a lot of mentions of flying,... and then theres a lot of east Asian type designs in the background of several homes in the show, so I can't help but have a sliver of curiosity as to if it all adds up to something
And if we're connecting this to the Russian code,,, "the last dragon" came out on his BIRTHDAY and blue met yellow in the west on his BIRTHDAY (or the day after I can't remember) which is also the day when will planned to give mike the painting of THE DRAGON.... (on his BiRThDaY!1!!1!!)

Also if this movie came out exactly one year before will's birthday in season 4 (1986) does that mean anything in regards to why will says "its been a year, mike" at rink o mania when it clearly hasn't? Or maybe will not giving mike the painting on his birthday somehow messed up time.
Also idk anything about the movie itself so correct me if any of this sounds like it would be ibaccurate

When Vol. 1 first dropped, back when I was more involved with discourse going on in the GA, specifically Reddit, interestingly there were a decent amount of fans speculating the significance of this movie. Since the poster ended up being on screen for almost a minute, many were willing to argue that there was a good chance it could be a hint at something we need to look deeper into to find out. Though from what I remember, the focus was mostly on the plot of the movie and so fans theories never really led to anything substantial. Until now…

At this point, with all the evidence that supports the fact that the Duffers actually didn’t forget Will’s birthday and are just lying, it seems a lot more absurd to think that everything is all just a massive coincidence.
Let’s not forget Noah said recently he was advised to be vague in interviews speculating Will’s sexuality over the years, despite it all being planned from the beginning, because it would have given away their hand a lot sooner than they wanted to. That’s why I feel like it has to all be intentional. It’s just too perfect.
This scene with Robin and Steve is literally within the first 8 minutes of 4x02, set on the morning of March 22nd, and it follows directly after the Cali airport scene… like????
I don’t know… is there something weird going on with the specific memories that were mentioned to the mindflayer/Vecna during Will’s possession… ?
Like… Vecna’s done something to those memories, those dates… like he’s stolen them, or hidden them from the minds of Will and the others who were present at the time. Because they had power over him last time.
March 22nd. Will’s birthday. It’s just… gone.
Drawing the rainbow spaceship? Building Castle Byers? Maybe they’re gone too.
And what about “Do you remember the first day we met?”
Mike saying “I feel like my life started the day we found you in the woods” to El because the memory of meeting Will on the swingset, asking him to be his friend… it’s gone.
I just wanted to remind y’all of the ultimate birthdaygate evidence, which goes all the way back to when the Cali teaser first dropped. Shortly after, fans started calling the number on the side of the Surfer Boy Pizza van, hoping to find some Easter eggs for the upcoming season, to which they were met with a Happy Birthday jingle playing cryptically. And yeah. That’s it…
I just saw someone say the Duffer Brothers but forgot Will’s birthday and I just want to add these screenshots as a counter-
They posted about Will’s birthday on March 23, 2020.
They posted about completing the scripts by June 18, 2020.
They knew it was his birthday whilst they were still writing the scripts.
+ I’m pretty sure in the volume 2 after party (or in a bunch of their interviews actually) the duffer brothers mentioned that because of the pandemic they were able to write the whole season before shooting it.
Usually they write to 3 episodes and shoot whilst writing the rest.
This allowed them to go back and change things in the first few episodes to help build up to plots they wanted to add in the final episodes.
(An example is adding the fact Eddie plays guitar so the guitar solo would make sense)
BASICALLY- they could’ve gone back and changed whatever if they needed to- but they didn’t.
