Chapter 7 of Sour Droplets!

[Chapter 7 - Uniting Consequences]

An waved bye to Kanade who was standing by the door of her house. The birds continued to chirp over head, flying under the clouds that dotted the sky as the sun shined down on An. It was a beautiful day despite it being August 28, marking her official fourth, and last day away from home.

Kanade and An exchanged phone numbers, a testimony to the bond they had made over the meager three days they had. Instead of giving Kanade An’s original phone number, she gave her her dad’s, since her phone was broken and she also needed a way to get ahold of her father to tell her she was ok.

So after An was done listing off the numbers of her dads phone number, Kanade sent him a message to which he instantly responded, glad that he knew where An was. They explained everything that happened (except the emotional parts) and An’s dad offered to come get her, but after An tried to stand and found that she could, she knew she wanted to make the journey home herself.

So after she headed into the kitchen and refused Kanade’s offer for breakfast, they said their goodbyes and An headed out the door. However Kanade still waved goodbye with her trademark gentle smile on her face, making An’s heart swell with warmth. They both had connected on a deeper level despite the awkward way they had met, and An knew that Kanade now held a spot close to her heart. 

So as An walked home, she wondered how she could show her appreciation to her new friend. Should she buy her a gift? No… Kanade likely wouldn’t accept it, and feel bad that An spent money on her. Should she pick some flowers for her? No.. it didn’t seem like Kanade would have time to take care of them. 

And so An’s back and forth in her brain continued, her feet taking her home as her brain continued to debate on ideas. Before she knew it though, she was in front of her dads cafe, and pushing the door open. The bell attached to the door rang as she stepped into the air conditioned atmosphere of the building. The place was empty except for the four people at the counter and of course, her dad, behind the counter.

However it was easy to tell who everyone was at that counter. For the girl near the door had a shade of sandy blonde hair that An had practically memorized, and it was easy to tell who the other were from their short orange hair and the split light and dark blue hair. Kohane, Akito, and Toya were all here, waiting for her.

Despite how worried they all must be, An couldn’t help but smile, their concern touching her heart. She couldn’t even begin to imagine how her disappearance had impacted all of them, especially since she had stayed out of touch with them for four days. Yet they still came to her dads cafe and waited for her return, clearly anxious in the silence that echoed around the room. 

An felt like she had to apologize, but before the word could come out of her mouth Kohane was the first to turn her head, her light brown eyes looking at An wide with concern.

“An-Chan!” She yelled, causing everyone else to look her way.

Akito’s face clearly possessed several wrinkles that had imprinted on his skin from all the worrying he had done, but Toya just smiled gently, his gray eyes shining under the fluorescent lights.

“Welcome back Shirashi.” He greeted, his sharp eyes conveying a sense of warmth.

“Oi oi Shirashi where were you? You made us worry.” Akito said, his tsundere demeanor showing through. Though An had to hold in a laugh when she saw Toya elbow him, causing Akito’s face to melt into a smile. “-Urk! But we’re glad you’re here An.”

An’s lips turned upwards into a grin. Just as quickly as the silence had settled, her partners had broke it, which was quite characteristic for them. They never were ones to be quiet, but the relief on their faces said enough for them.

“An…! I’m so glad you’re safe.” Looking upwards, An could see her dad frozen in place and staring at her while he held a glass and cloth in hand.

Instantly a smile of relief and despair broke out across An’s face. She may not have Nagi anymore, but she had her dad. And god had she missed him.

Instantly An put one foot in front of the other, rushing forward. One of the things she loved about her dad was the warmth he provided, the bond they shared. And she had certainly missed that.

But as she ran behind the counter and wrapped her arms around him I’m a tight hug, she let out a contented sigh. As her dad wrapped her arms around she let herself smile, the corners of her lips curling upwards as she let herself be embraced by that familiar warmth again. For now she was home, in the place closest to her heart.

Basically, Yoongi is a mess. He knows this. His roommate, Seokjin, knows this. No one else knows this. The needle used looked like it was Yuri's artifact--I think Jiro getting his medication was the shirtless scene?

The back is the same, see? That's most likely Yuri using his artifact. Jiro says his medication takes an hour to receive on the home screen so Yuri probably wouldn't be administering it in the field--he probably gives it to him before they go on missions if they can't do it on schedule.

So I've seen the chapter titles in the code and i've read the Mortkranken character story chats since they were put in with the Obscuary ones, so I know a little bit about what happens in the story so. I won't share any theories haha but I am SO EXCITED ABOUT A FEW CHAPTERS SPECIFICALLY. Since it's in two days I'm gonna keep my mouth shut but a lot of, if not all of the ghouls we've met already, will reappear at some point this part and I'm looking forward to it. A certain theory gets confirmed as canon(well maybe there will be multiple theories confirmed, but from the titles I know of one specific one.) We learn a bit more about ghouls I think?

Uuuuh I'm most looking forward to the things with Towa, Taiga, and Ed. I'm particulsrly looking forward to learning more about Yuri and what's going on with Jiro. Hopefully learning more about the One Eyed Sleeping Beauty murder? Even if it's only a little bit. Some characters are going to work together this part and I'm pretty sure I know two of the three so I'm excited to see if I'm right and what they're up to. . . .

JUST. SINCE I KNOW SO MUCH ALREADY(BUT NOT EVERYTHING, BUT THE TITLES IN ENGLISH AND JAPANESE TELL ME A GOOD AMOUNT, I KNOW THE ITINERARY) I CAN'T REALLY SPEAK TO MY THEORIES AND WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WITHOUT SOME SPOILERS. JUST KNOW THAT I'M EXCITED. BUT I'M ALWAYS EXCITED.

Chapter 7: Or Maybe It’s Just You 

Logan and Roman left the potion shop. “Sure was nice of them to give me a free potion!” Roman said cheerfully. “True, and it would have been better if you didn’t break the beaker,” Logan replied. 

“Hey! Why don’t you try drinking salamander skin!" 

With that Roman felt himself tilt to the side, stumbling, Logan reached out to help steady him.

The Phantom General and The Dawn Knight

This crazy idea came to mind.

In the first years that humans arrived in the Briar Kingdom, a young Lilia Vanrouge (about 200 years old) meets a young healer.

At first Lilia is on alert for this human, but as time goes by she becomes captivated by the woman's beauty and kindness.

And the young woman is not far behind either, although Lilia at first had a cold behavior towards her, she could see that deep down she was a determined being with the goal of becoming stronger to protect her comrades.

Lilia shows strange behavior, she waits impatiently for the training to end, her mind is in the clouds and she smiles from time to time. This was obviously noticed by her best friends Meleanor and Levan, and Lilia had no choice but to confess.

Levan on the one hand is happy that Lilia is in love with someone (even if it's a human), and after learning this Levan strives to find a way to make a peace treaty with the humans (but the senate flatly refuses). to this idea).

While with Meleanor she doesn't know what to think, on the one hand, she is happy that Lilia found love (since she was worried that Lilia would die alone like an abandoned dog), but on the other hand, the person Lilia fell in love with is a HUMAN, a relationship between a fairy and a human for several and very obvious reasons could never work, but here is Lilia the fairy with the most rational sense that is known to anyone and does not care about this. But who is she to judge, after all when a fairy falls in love nothing stops him (she knows this very well after courting Levan for 50 years).

But unfortunately an event occurred that would change everything.

But when Lilia and her troops arrived everything was chaos, there were fairies flying for their lives while the silver owls had already eliminated all the traitors one by one.

Despite having their magical weapons, the silver owls were defeated by the dark fairies. Without any other options, they retreated, but they swore that this would not end here and they were going to seek revenge.

After the fight Lilia looked for her beloved only to find a horrible scene, that sweet woman with eyes bright like dawn and lips of a tender pink color is replaced by a corpse that has lost the light from its eyes and its lips stained with its same red blood. And Lilia simply can't stand the pain and breaks down, he cries and screams to whoever is in heaven why this happened, why an innocent woman had to suffer such a fate.

When Meleanor finds out what happened she can't believe it, these damn humans threatening her kingdom out of greed and willing to kill their own species to achieve it, this simply makes her sick.

And Levan is not far behind, he knows that not all humans are evil, but this act they just committed is horrible.

Both are together with Lilia to console him for his loss.

100 years later, the dark fairies and the silver owls were in the middle of a battle, both sides were equal and it seemed that there would be no end to it, until their champions came face to face. On one side was General Lilia Vanrouge and on the other was the Knight of Dawn. Their battle was brutal, both possessed extraordinary strength and abilities, so powerful was their fight that their masks flew off, revealing their faces.

Lilia was paralyzed, there in front of him was she, the woman he once loved, golden hair like the sun, pink lips like a tender rose, and those beautiful eyes that shine like an aurora. Lilia could only whisper: “Leia.”

The knight of dawn looked surprised:

“How…how do you know my name?”

And before both could say anything else, their troops called them, they both made their troops withdraw since on both sides everyone was very badly wounded.

With Lilia, he couldn't believe it, she was there, his beloved had returned, but apparently fate likes to play with him, since she returned, but as his greatest enemy.

Meanwhile with the knight of the dawn, or rather with Leia, she was deep in thought.

“Who was that fairy?”

How did he know my name?

Why didn't he attack me?

So many thoughts passed through his mind, but the one that was most in his head was:

“He looked like the man I saw… no… that I met in my dreams.”

I really don't know how I had this idea, I was just sitting there and thought: "what if the knight of the dawn is a woman and marries Lilia and they have Silver."

I would like to think that in this way many things would change, Meleanor and Levan would still be alive and would be with Malleus, Silver would not have to feel like garbage knowing that his biological father was the one who murdered the mother of Malleus, the knight of the dawn (Leia) wouldn't have to do such a horrible act and could be with his son, and Lilia wouldn't have to lose anyone she loves and could live a happy life with his wife and son.

This idea is crazy, but I like it (or maybe it's a way to deal with the big hit of depression that chapter 7 and what's missing from it) generated in me.

Después de los acontecimientos de la guerra iniciada por el Reino de Lucis, solo aquellos humanos que ayudaron a vencer a los búhos plateados se les permitió quedarse en el Reino de las Espinas.

Pero al fin todos se podían tomar un merecido descanso.

Lilia se dirigía a su hogar, una pequeña cabaña alejada de la capital, que hace ya varios años construyo junto a su pareja. El ya deseaba llegar, poder al fin recostarse en su cama y quedarse dormido abrazado con su amada esposa y su querido…

“¡BUA, BUA!”

Aquel llanto se escuchaba afuera de la cabaña, un llanto que conocía muy bien y que extrañaba mucho, con todo el asunto del tratado Lilia muy apenas tenía tiempo para pasar con su familia. Pero ahora va a arreglar eso.

Sin perder más tiempo el hada voló hacia la ventana de la habitación que compartía con su amada y pudo visualizar a su esposa y a su pequeño hijo.

Leia se encontraba al lado de la cuna, meciendo con preocupación al bebé de un lado a otro.

“¿Qué pasa Silver, tienes hambre?... No, ¿talvez sea tu pañal?… Tampoco, ¿perdiste tu manta?... No, aquí esta, mi dulce Silver ¿qué necesitas?”

“Quizás una canción de cuna ayudaría”

Tanto la mujer y él bebe se sorprendieron al oír esa voz familiar.

“Lilia regresaste”

“Hola mi amor, veo que tienes algunos problemas para dormir a nuestro pequeño”

“Si, ha estado así estos días y no sé por…”

“Baba…Baba”

El pequeño estiro sus manitas hacia su padre mientras una linda sonrisita se formaba en su rostro.

“Oh que lindo, al parecer está muy feliz de verte”

“Khee hee, ya lo veo”

Lilia se acerco a Leia y extendió sus brazos, ella entendió lo que quería, y con cuidado coloco a Silver en los brazos de su padre.

Él bebé estaba muy feliz, balbuciendo palabras incoherentes mientras jugaba con el largo cabello de su progenitor.

Pero ya era muy tarde, así que sin más el hada empezó a cantar:

Cuando la canción llego a su fin, el pequeño ya hacia dormido, con cuidado de no despertar al bebé, Lilia lo coloco en su cuna.

Una calidez lleno el corazón al hada al ver como su hijo dormía, se veía tan lindo y frágil, pero cada día el pequeño crecía más y el sabía que en el futuro se convertiría en alguien fuerte e independiente que protegerá a sus seres queridos.

La sensación de ser abrazado por detrás lo saco de sus pensamientos, su amada apoyaba su cabeza en su hombro y observo también como dormía su bebé.

“El realmente te extraño”

“Yo también lo extrañe, los extrañe a ambos”

El hada se dio la vuelta y miro a la humana a los ojos.

“Te amo bestia”

No importa cuentas veces ella escuchara esas palabras, siempre hacían que su corazón salte de alegría.

“Yo también te amo Lilia”

Sin decir otra palabra, Leia sello sus labios con los de Lilia, y ambos se fundieron en el beso.

Lilia al fin estaba en casa.

Far Cry Cradle

After the events of the war started by Lucis Kingdom, only those humans who helped defeat the silver owls were allowed to stay in the Briar Kingdom.

But after 400 years a peace treaty has finally been signed between the Briar Kingdom and the neighboring countries. A truly important moment that marked fairies and humans alike.

And it was a really stressful time for the Draconia family, especially for Levan, the kingdom's current king and minister of peace. The poor man was locked in his office for several weeks signing papers and sending letters to all the neighboring kingdoms. His wife and son had to forcibly drag him out to take a break.

It was also difficult for Lilia, after all she was the right hand of Queen Meleanor Draconia, and had to be by her side at all times. And he had to endure his queen's outbursts of anger when a neighboring kingdom imposed somewhat inopportune conditions.

But finally everyone could take a well-deserved rest.

Lilia went to her home, a small cabin far from the capital, which she built with her partner several years ago. He already wanted to arrive, to finally be able to lie down in his bed and fall asleep embraced with his beloved wife and his dear...

“¡BUA, BUA!”

That cry could be heard outside the cabin, a cry that I knew very well and that I missed a lot, with the whole treaty thing. Lilia hardly had time to spend with her family. But now he's going to fix that.

Without wasting any more time, the fairy flew to the window of the room he shared with his beloved and was able to see his wife and his little son.

Leia stood next to the crib, worryingly rocking the baby back and forth.

The baby was very happy, babbling incoherent words while playing with his father's long hair.

When the song came to an end, the little one was already asleep, being careful not to wake the baby, Lilia placed him in his crib.

A warmth filled the fairy's heart when she saw how her son slept, he looked so cute and fragile, but every day the little boy grew more and he knew that in the future he would become someone strong and independent who would protect his loved ones.

The feeling of being hugged from behind took him out of his thoughts, his beloved rested her head on his shoulder and also watched as his baby slept.

“He really missed you.”

“I missed him too, I missed them both.”

The fairy turned around and looked the human in the eyes.

“I love you beast”

No matter how many times she heard those words, they always made her heart jump for joy.

“I love you too Lilia”

Without saying another word, Leia sealed her lips with Lilia's, and they melted into the kiss.

Lilia was finally home.

El General Fantasma y el Caballero del Alba

Me llego esta idea loca a la mente.

En los primeros años en que los humanos llegaron al Reino de las Espinas, un joven Lilia Vanrouge (alrededor de unos 200 años) conoce a una joven sanadora.

Al principio Lilia se mantiene en alerta por esta humana, pero con el paso del tiempo se queda cautivado por la belleza y amabilidad de la mujer.

Y la joven tampoco se queda atrás, aunque Lilia al principio tenia un comportamiento frio hacia ella, ella pudo ver que en el fondo era un ser determinado y con el objetivo de volverse mas fuerte para proteger a sus camaradas.

Lilia muestra un comportamiento extraño, espera con impaciencia a que el entrenamiento termine, su mente anda en las nubes y sonreía de vez en cuanto. Esto obviamente lo notaron sus mejores amigos Meleanor y Levan, y Lilia no tuvo más opción que confesar.

Levan por un lado se alegra de que Lilia se allá enamorado de alguien (aunque sea un humano), y después de saber esto Levan se esfuerza para poder encontrar una manera de hacer un tratado de paz con los humanos (pero el senado se niega rotundamente a esta idea).

Mientras que con Meleanor ella no sabe que pensar, por un lado, le alegra que Lilia encontrara el amor (ya que esta estaba preocupada que Lilia muriera solo como un perro abandonado), pero por el otro la persona que Lilia se enamoro es de un HUMANO, una relación de un hada con un humano por varias y muy obvias razones jamás podría funcionar, pero he aquí Lilia el hada con el sentido más racional que allá conocido no le importa esto. Pero quien es ella para juzgar, después de todo cuando un hada se enamora ya nada lo detiene (ella lo sabe muy bien después de cortejar a Levan por 50 años).

Pero desgraciadamente ocurrió un evento que cambiaria todo.

La joven sanadora descubrió que los búhos plateados estaban secuestrando a las hadas del bosque para venderlas y a su vez que estaban fabricando armas con las piedras mágicas que encontraban en las cuevas para atacar a las hadas oscuras.

La joven no se quedo de brazos cruzados, ella les pidió a sus amigas las aves que advirtieran a Lilia, y mientras tanto ella junto a otros humanos que estaban en contra de las acciones de los búhos plateados salvarían a las hadas.

Pero cuando Lilia y sus tropas llegaron todo era un caos, había hadas volando por su vida mientras que los búhos plateados ya habían eliminado a todos los traidores uno por uno.

A pesar de contar con sus armas mágicas, los búhos plateados fueron vencidos por las hadas oscuras, estos sin más opciones se retiraron, pero juraron que esto no terminaría aquí e iban a buscar venganza.

Después de la pelea Lilia busco a su amada solo para encontrar una horrible escena, aquella dulce mujer con ojos brillantes como aurora y labios de un tierno color rosado es reemplazada por un cadáver que ha perdido la luz de sus ojos y sus labios manchados de su misma sangre roja. Y simplemente Lilia no puede soportar el dolor y se rompe, él llora y grita a quien sea que este en el cielo por qué sucedió esto, por qué una mujer inocente tuvo que sufrir tal destino.

Cuando Meleanor se entera de lo sucedido no puede creerlo, estos malditos humanos amenazando su reino por avaricia y dispuestos a matar a su propia especie para lograrlo, simplemente esto la enferma.

Y Levan no se queda atrás, él sabe que no todos los humanos son malvados, pero este acto que acaban de cometer es horrible.

Ambos están junto Lilia para consolarlo por su perdida.

100 años después, las hadas oscuras y los búhos plateados se encontraban en medio de una batalla, ambos bandos estaban iguales y parecía que esto no tendría final, hasta que sus campeones se encontraban de cara a cara. Por un lado, estaba el general Lilia Vanrouge y por el otro el caballero del amanecer. Su batalla fue brutal, ambos poseían una fuerza y habilidades extraordinarias, tan poderosa fue su lucha que las mascaras de ambos salieron volando, revelando sus rostros.

Lilia quedo paralizado, allí enfrente suyo estaba ella, la mujer que amo alguna vez, cabellos dorados cual sol, labios de un color rosado como una tierna rosa, y esos bellos ojos que brillan como una aurora. Lilia solo pudo susurrar:

“Leia”

El caballero del alba se mostró sorprendido:

“¿Cómo… cómo es que sabes mi nombre?”

Y antes que ambos pudieran decir algo más, sus tropas los llamaban, ambos hicieron que sus tropas se retiraran ya que en los dos lados se encontraban todos muy mal heridos.

Con Lilia, él no lo podría creer, ella estaba allí, su querida amada había regresado, pero al parecer el destino le gusta jugar con él, ya que ella regreso, pero como su mayor enemigo.

Mientras tanto con el caballero del amanecer, o mas bien dicho con Leia, ella estaba hundida en sus pensamientos.

“¿Quién era esa hada?”

“¿Cómo supo mi nombre?”

“¿Por qué no me atacó?”

Tantos pensamientos pasaron por su mente, pero el que más estuvo en su cabeza fue:

“Él se parecía al hombre que vi… no… que conocí en mis sueños”.

Realmente no se como tuve esta idea, simplemente estaba sentada y pensé: “y si el caballero del alba es mujer y se casa con Lilia y tienen a Silver”.

Me gustaría pensar que de esta forma muchas cosas cambiarían, Meleanor y Levan seguirían vivos y estarían con Malleus, Silver no tendría que sentirse como una basura al saber que su padre fue quien asesino a la madre de Malleus, el caballero del alba (Lea) no tendría que hacer un acto tan horrible y podría estar con su hijo, y Lilia no tendría que perder a ninguna persona que ama y podría vivir una vida feliz al lado de su esposa y su hijo.

Esta idea es una locura, pero me gusta (o tal vez es una forma de afrontar el gran golpe de depresión que me genero el capitulo 7 y de lo que falta de este).

WIP Wednesday/Snippet Someday

A big HUGE thank you to everyone who's been tagging me in stuff while I've been out on vacation!!! I'm finally back, and I have so much to catch up on! (I'll be trying to post every single one of those tag games and asks as soon as possible!)

Please have a snippet of Chapter 7, going up this Sunday 9/8!!! I know some have been looking forward to it (you have no idea how over the moon that makes me!!!)

Anywho, please enjoy this hefty offering!

“His rules were absolute- it’s why I can't turn you into a vampire, Ofelia. I’m only a spawn- I’ve no freedom or thoughts of my own. I was nothing but a slave, forced to survive on vermin and hide from the sun. To enact his twisted will on the city without any say- he had total control of me and my siblings, I was on a leash at all times,” He barks a laugh, her eyes wide and her voice dead in her throat. “Then I was abducted and this is the best thing that’s ever happened to me- I can’t feel him constantly choking me, constantly watching me. This parasite may have stolen you all away from whatever lovely lives you’ve been living, but for me…” His voice is strong and deep, her chest caving in as she listens. “It’s the best thing that's happened to me since I died.”

She sits silently for a while, her mind a cyclone of emotion. Pity, compassion, sadness. All of it swirls around inside until they lock eyes again. He doesn’t look receptive to a tearful hug or anything of that sort, but she mouths the I’m sorry that’s been echoing in her skull since his pained confession. His jaw clenches and he nods sharply before looking away again, her tongue heavy in her mouth.

“You just have to ask me, and I’ll give.” She says, twisting her fingers around. That look of surprise is on his face again, in his eyes. It fills her with some kind of purpose- she’s not been able to do much in combat here, or really offer their party that much… but at least she can do this. At least she can give someone a hand. At least this way she can be useful.

“Why? Why do you offer so freely? What’s in it for you?” She stills at his words, the razor edge of wariness making her chest ache. Oh distrust, the ever flighty bird she’d once grown accustomed to.

“Nothing’s really in it for me, Astarion. I’d just like to help… I can tell you don’t really care for pity. So let me help in a way you’ll at least appreciate.” She doesn’t look up to meet his eyes. It feels strange somehow, like the things she’s saying are something to be bashful about. She’d do this for anyone. She’d bend over backwards for anyone. She’s just like that.

“You won’t try to suffocate me with embraces and heartfelt words?”

“Can’t promise the latter- space I accept. But you’ll have to put up with me caring.” When she looks up, his head is cocked as he appraises her curiously. His lips twist in discomfort at her mention of “caring”, but otherwise he doesn’t look angry. “If you want to keep drinking from me, you’ll just have to put up with the compassion. Got it?”

“I… suppose.” He grinds out through his teeth, fangs flashing in the sunlight. They’re smaller when he isn’t trying to bite her, just barely peeking out from below his upper lip when he speaks. When he’s about to drink, they’re long- an inch or two, if she’s right.

“Have your eyes always been red?” She asks after some time has passed, mind lingering on some of the finer details.

“No… that’ll be another symptom of vampirism.” He mumbles, and she turns to look at him lazily again.

“What color were they before?” His brow furrows and he looks genuinely lost- almost adrift. It’s replaced by a grim look of anger just as fast as she can blink.

“I don’t remember. I don’t remember a lot of things, actually…” She wants to say something, but he’s so closed off. She can tell he’s barely allowing this bit of conversation between them, and she doesn’t want to press… but she did tell him he’d have to endure a bit of her tender understanding, and what better time to pester him than now?

“I think the red looks really nice,” She says, watching his face stray into awe before settling on confusion. “And the fangs- they look good too. The paleness. It kind of suits you and all that… you’re not going to stop me, are you?” He smirks, lips lifting over one fang, and she can’t tell if he’d always done that or if he’d been hiding it before his identity had been revealed to her. Or if he’s only showing them off because of what she’d just said. Everything feels like a churning ocean in her gut and she doesn’t like the way staring at him twists up her insides and makes her sound stupid. Well. Stupider than usual.

“Do go on, not enough people mention my good looks.”

“Oh, I’m sure you haven’t heard a compliment in ages. Let me pull out all the stops for you.”

“I’m listening,” He analyzes his nails.

“Snobby.” He snickers. “Pretentious.” He grins. “Ungrateful.”

“Now I’m insulted, I came and thanked you, didn’t I?”

“Not since last night.”

“You need another reminder? Greedy.” They’ve leaned in close, so close she can see every pore on his face. She stiffens and pulls back, hiding the warble in her voice with a light cough as she’s sure her cheeks paint her in an embarrassing scarlet.
