Goodbye my lover Goodbye my friend
Recently, while rewatching Vincenzo for the gaziollionth time, I noticed something interesting. There's a recurring theme of Cha Young watching Vincenzo leave. Almost as if foreshadowing that their initial relationship would be spent being apart and having to constantly say goodbye to each other. It just keeps getting more and more depressing. There were a lot, so I picked my favorite ones.

Hong Cha-Young and " Vinchenzo Quassano" meeting for the first time
Vincenzo (2021): Episode 1
Song Joong-Ki as Vincenzo Jeon Yeo-Been as Hong Cha-Young
You've always been on my mind ever since I left. I find that hard to believe.
VINCENZO / 빈센조 (2021) dir. Kim Hee-Won
THE PUREST THING
here i come with a chayenzo headcanon i've been obsessed lately
their love language is holding hands. they're wary to do it at first, fingers apprensive to reach out for the one another, but someone eventually gathers the courage to grab the other's hand.
they start doing every time they can. when they're alone at the law firm and they're trying to reassure each other, on the times vincenzo silently walks cha young to her house, on the car after spending the night going through a difficult case, under the table of the courtroom to celebrate a victory.
vincenzo and cha young don't think anyone notices. sure, they're being cool and terribly stealthy, but mr. nam already has a powerpoint presentation of their best hand-holding moments with iu's good day playing in the background.
let's talk about cha-young's outburst and vincenzo's response
so it's obvious that both of them are angry at prosecutor jung's betrayal but let's study they way they both react, and then vincenzo's response to cha-young.
in that gif, you can see vincenzo's anger: his eyes are focused and his jaw is clenched slightly. even if he outwardly doesn't show it, throughout the show we're well versed with seeing his anger and how it manifests. his anger is a lot quieter, and more internal. this contrasts with cha-young, who's anger is more palpable. she clenches her mug, and her face twists and you can see the anger build up in her as she watches prosecutor jung. she expresses her anger very physically, almost like she can feel it all across her body, which we see later in the scenes.
when cha-young finally throws her mug and stands there, you can see vincenzo getting startled and looking at her, almost trying to gauge what she's going to do next. there's both concern and surprise: i don't think vincenzo expected her to get so emotional over it. there's also plenty of concern that goes through him because even though we have seen cha-young get angry, we haven't seen it like this.
she runs and you can see a little bit of debate in his face on whether he wants to chase after her or not, and of course he settles on chasing after her and he's definitely preparing himself for it. he's also putting aside some of his anger and disappointment in order to stay level headed for her.
cha-young is angry and frustrated and you can see that in the way she's marching and not letting vincenzo stop her. she's so overwhelmed with how tired and disappointed she is in this journey. but what's better is that vincenzo knows this because he is feeling it too. vincenzo knows that even though she's angry she knows that there isn't anything she can do in this moment. he understands that this is a way for her to process what just happened, and that's why we see him quietly observing her and letting her vent it out. in the later scene, when she's calmer you can see his rage shine through just as much as hers, except his is a lot colder than hers.
jeon yeo been does an incredible job of portraying cha-young's emotions in this scene. you can see the anger burning through her but through her held back tears you can see her disappointment and just how much of a range she's feeling: disbelief and shock from the betrayal, anger and tiredness from battling constantly and ultimately disappointment that they were so close but they missed the downfall.
when vincenzo is looking at her here, what he's seeing is a reflection of his own pain, anger and disappointment in a much more blatant light. so when vincenzo comforts her, he doesn't scold her for the outburst, he lets her fully process what she's going through. he gives her time to march and lean over the window because vincenzo understands that similar to how he process anger, cha-young is also processing her anger and exhaustion through this. he listens to her fully on what why she's so frustrated; he doesn't tell to not cry or to be strong, instead he assures her that he feels her anger, that she isn't alone in this.
there's a very small hesitation as he puts his hand on her shoulder and you can still see she's emotional but she's looking at him for guidance, even with her anger burning because deep down she knows he's right and that he's just as angry. and you can see her calm down as he talks to her. we haven't seen a gesture this blatant from vincenzo; of course, we have his casual touches but that's less stated than him holding her shoulder. here, he is comforting her the way cha-young would comfort him: with a hand on the shoulder and an assurance that he is not alone.
and THAT is why i really love this scene, because we know that both vincenzo and cha-young until now has walked very lonely paths. cha-young deflects a lot of her pain and her guilt from her father's death by being jolly and overdramatic and focused on this game of revenge. meanwhile, vincenzo puts his sadness and disappointment into his anger and revenge. for me, this scene is like a slight parallel to when cha-young runs to him in the tunnel except here, he's running after her. this scene of comfort is ultimately a reassurance that they're together in this, that they will shoulder this pain together and that they will defeat babel together.
"I thought you would ask me out"
VINCENZO PLEASE
"it was you, wasn't it?" *shakes head innocently*
vincenzo | episode 15
Hong Chayoung: Maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way.
Vincenzo: No. I want my gold.
Lyf headcanons pt4
I've seen a lot of AUs and crossovers with HTTYD and can't help but think what if there was a new AU crossover of Vincenzo(kdrama) and Hiccstrid.
It would make for such an entertaining headcanon idea, like imagine a ruthless Hiccup who's playing Vincenzo being a badass mafia lawyer and Astrid being Cha Young, a brazen bold tenacious lawyer but with a twist of HTTYD universe. Although come to think about it Ruffnut's personality suits Cha Young more...
Since their personalities clash it would be messy if not written properly. But I want to see Hiccup as an antihero character who wants peace just as much as canon Hiccup and is ruthless enough to use merciless justice to achieve it. And as amazingly badass as Astrid is physically Cha Young's mental strength is something I think would very much complement these female leads very well.
Given Hiccstrid's witty comebacks and snarks (coughmainlyHiccup'scough), it would be fun to see them out of the Viking physical fighting stereotype for a bit and see Hiccstrid as badass lawyers who use wits and words instead of Inferno and the axe.
With enough backstory in this AU would be such a fun take since Vincenzo is dealing with the corruption of the law and HTTYD is dealing with adaptation and transformation from the old into the new (aka traditions to moderness).
The dragons would have to be inexistent tho. Else it's gonna be weird considering it to be a modern AU. Imagine Toothless as Inzhagi lmao.
And Viggo as Choi Myung Hee. Maybe Dagur as Park Seok Do or Hwang Min Seong. And Drago or Grimmel as Jang Han Seok. There would definitely be a lot of OC's as well.
And without the whole Maces and Talons metaphor, coz while it was a fun mind game it, soon got old with how much it was mentioned. And Viggo's actions were kind of predictable season four onwards once Hiccup match up with his game.
(P.s. this is just me being salty on the writers rtte coz some episodes especially seaason five onwards it felt more of like wasted potential rather than fulfilling. Like King of Dragons or 1&2 felt so rushed like huh?!) Anyays rants aside feel free to disagree.
Should I write it? Maybe I'll pos some headcanons here. It's gonna be a WIP.
Vincenzo headcannon
After three years of being the Cassano mafia boss and taking care (wiping out) their rivals aka Lucianos and relocsting the Cassanos to their original home cack in Italy after the disaster that was Paolo's leading, Vincenzo readily gives the job to someone else, say his cousin and his wife is the main consigliere of the family now.
He does not have many responsibilities but because of his connections, reputation, skills, bonds and the fact he cannot just part with the mafia, Vincenzo becomes a part-time consigliere where Ie usually becomes an ambassador of sorts cleaning up the trash (like babel but like 10% downscale). His main job is to take care of and run the safe haven that is Pagliuzza and it's residents. So Vin gets in touch with Mr Ahn and Mr Cho where they have cleared his name and created a new identity and personal particulars with the name Oh Joo Hyung.
Vinny takes the legal exam to become a lawyer in Korea and gets his license online (idk if it's real bear with me here it's a headcanon).
After the initial shock and get-together of the Geumga Plaza, Jipuragi has an additional member to its growing team of one paralegal and paralegal in training, one hell of a tenacious lawyer who also dubs as a CEO and three interning lawyers, an new lawyer by the name Oh Joo Hyung arrives.
And there is gossip from the interns that the two older, experienced lawyers are long lost lovers who reunited from their long distance relationship and decided to work back to strengthen their marriage.
Our resident couple decides to humour them and the other teamts as well, mainly because why not.
And besides, it's not like a confirmed relationship on paper to show the government is gonna change their dynamic of finger flicks bets on whose method of convincing their witnesses or where they sleep together in the fluffy bedroom of the mini apartment, where a certain pigeon has visited again after a three-year-long break and has learnt manners, to increase convinience, or its tying up money-hungry detective and threatening them by kicking the wheeled chair off an abandoned building.
Their marriage is not a big deal. It just happens so suddenly and secretly. It starts with him casually joking about it in one of their pillow talks.
This leads to her sending him an envelope via post which contained a contract for the registration of a marriage certificate with her signature already on it.
He returns it to her casually the next day along with the other documents for their current case, followed by a box. Form signed and a box containing a ring. Her ring. She raises an eyebrow and catches the sight of his left hand's ring finger already sporting a platinum band with a plate encrusting small diamonds. No wonder he had shoved that hand in his pocket long than usual. From her desk, she could see that bastard smirking like no tomorrow, hiding behind his papers.
After everyone has left and it's just the two of them, Vincenzo well now Joo Hyung is now stopped by Cha Young straddling him holding out the box to him
"I don't recall you asking me to marry you"
"I definitely did, remember three years back? Surrounded by an orchestra and flashing cameras? And art gallery was it? Ragusang. You forgot to process the papers so they were delayed sweetie."
"Omo! Yah, that wasn't you it was Mr Anderson wasn't it darling"
"Hmmm, fair point."
*takes ring and holds it out but instead of and awkward hesitancy, he leans into her ear and asks*
"Will you marry me"
*she smirks and pulls him by his tie to crash their lips together as he slips the ring onto her finger*
"I better go process the registration then."
"Hmmm, yeah you do that, makgeolli and ramyeon tonight?"
"Add fried chicken, beef jerky and pajeon as well. Oohh! Also buy soju and wine and whiskey. I wanna get wasted tonight. Ah! It's a great day to be alive!"
The next day Mr Nam sees their hands and sends a picture to the Geumga plaza chat group the photo.
It blows up with replies varying from "Finally!" "Why weren't we invited, I made him my baby girl's godfather" "He's a mafia you idiot, we cant be there for safety reasons." "Wait, they were not married three years ago?"
For Vincenzo and Cha Young, weddings were a waste of time and money and an unhealthy amount of words and worries That doesn't mean they didn't go to Pagliuzza for their honeymoon, rather honey month, and took endless wedding photos with Cha Yong rocking every dress from satin ball gowns to mermaid styled body cons with tulle accents and to velvet evening dresses.
Reason why I think Cha Young shouldn't have killed Jang Han Seok / Choi Myung Hee
Putting it under the cut.
I think I finally understand why in the last episodes of the series Cha Young is scripted to be injured and unable to kill Hank Seok and Myung Hee; much to our chagrin.
It's because Cha young is a legal working official. No matter how morally grey she is. It doesn't change the fact that she does not have blood on her hands. She did not cause death. Even when she tortured the three killers or threatened the truck driver, she only cause suffering, it was Vincenzo and his underdogs (which Vincenzo eventually kills) who predicted and carried out the death.
Compared to Mr Han, Jang Han Seok, Choi Myung Hee and other officials, the only corrupt things she has done are mainly to bribe her witnesses and others related to the case to get their testimonies. She climbed the corporate work ladder using her abilities in court, she became Wusang's Ace in 8 years due to her skills. Not because she bribed and got a promotion. She even hands cases she dealt with without Wusang's knowledge to Vincenzo. This shows her competency.
Even though she says to share the danger, and consequences of the dark side of Vincenzo's world, she knows and he knows that adapting to a world like that is undeniably daunting and draining.
Cha Young knowing her way around the toxicity of the upper-class conglomerates and the wimpy law system doesn't mean she's fully capable of assimilating into a bleak deadly world of the mafia or even killing.
She may fight (I hc Mr Tak shows her moves of self defense), she may be unapologetic for all the suffering she has caused. But she cannot get into that state of villianity just yet.
Vincenzo got into that realm because he joined it willingly at a young age. The perfect time to learn and hone. Now all his tricks and abilities are second nature to him. That's why he mentions his plans by using the term "mafia" every time he plans something (ie the court scene with the hornets ep6 / discussing pig's blood ep13). He's used to it, and he needs to show that his methods were common and not at all offending hence he used the "mafia" word to give an example, to make it seem to everyone that his way is effective and has been tried and tested. To convince.
No matter how much we want Cha Young to torture Jang Han Seok and Choi Myung Hee like how Vincenzo delivered their deaths, she won't. Because she hasn't assimilated to that life. She's still hanging on her moral compass though it's pointing the wrong way. She says it herself in ep 19 when Vincenzo gives her an out. "What we've been doing was hard on me. It hurt me. But I pushed through and chose your methods. Because it was the lesser evil."
She chose Vincenzo because he was her partner. But that is not the only reason. She didn't put blind faith in him. She didnt blindly accept him and his actions. She chose Vincenzo's methods because she knows there was no other way to bring Jang Han seok down. She aces in court, she can demolish her opponents. Heck, she demolished her father's case and he has 22 more years of experience than her. But that doesn't mean accepting Vincenzo's actions didn't make her question herself.
It did.
And it led her to be a more morally grey Jipuragi CEO than the competent lawyer at Wusang.
This in all honesty just a rebuttal against those calling out the writer and director for making Vincenzo end the two villains because MC privileges rigging CY. But I'm still salty for that to happen she had to get shot. It felt like a rushed scene. Theu should have done something else.
And by the way, what I said doesn't mean she isn't capable of what Vin does. But it would need years of exposure to such vile backgrounds as the mafia and she would have gone through a more intense character arc than the one we see in the show for her to enable to do such things Vin does.
But that said, I don't see it out of character for CY to unintentionally kill someone for the people she cares (ahem Vinny ahem) while trying to fight the bad guys.
All im saying is the ending felt earned to me IMHO and this is a stance on why I support the writer and director for ending the villains' fate in Vin's hands rather than CY's.
That's it thank you for coming to my ted talk.
the painting is “the seven works of mercy” by caravaggio. it symbolizes the seven works; to instruct the ignorant, to counsel the doubtful, to admonish the sinners, to bear patiently those who wrong us, to forgive offenses, to comfort the afflicted, to pray for the living and the dead.
