Cheesy Garlic Bread
Day 79: Never
“It’s never going to happen, Pansy,” Draco said, rolling his eyes at her.
She sipped her drink but continued to stare across the bar at the man who was all but holding court, regaling people with the tales of his quidditch prowess. “But he’s so yummy,” she replied, looking him up and down salaciously.
"He doesn't even play for your team," Draco groaned, swallowing a larger-than-polite swallow of his whiskey.
"I don't play for his either, but I might make an exception," she said, nodding toward him once more and Draco didn't even bother to look at the other man. He already saw him at practice everyday, already saw him at their games, at their after parties. He saw him when he closed his eyes to go to sleep.
"Hey," the voice that went along with his face said and Draco jumped, turning to see Harry standing there with that easy, lopsided grin on his face.
He swallowed his drink too quickly and ended up coughing and spluttering.
The smile dropped off of Harry's face, his hand immediately rubbing over Draco's back, "Sorry," he said with a slight wince. "Didn't mean to startle you."
Could the floor just swallow him up? Perhaps an emergency could arise and he would be needed somewhere that wasn't here. Literally anywhere would be better than here.

"I just wanted to congratulate you on a good game," Harry said.
"Well, you're the one who caught the snitch," Draco replied. "But while you're here, Pansy wanted to say-" he started as he glanced over to where his best friend had been sitting a moment before. "Where did she go?" he asked.
"To the bar? Maybe?" Harry said, looking around, "She was eyeing up a pretty brunette a minute ago while you were choking on your drink."
"Of course she was," he grumbled. She was always doing this to him, the cow.
Harry rubbed the back of his neck, looking a bit bashful, "I wondered-"
"Potter!" Andrews shouted across the bar.
"Your adoring fans await," Draco teased.
The other man huffed, "Don't be a twat."
"Potter!" someone else shouted.
"Go," Draco said, nodding toward the group who'd started chanting his name.
"Don't go anywhere, okay?" Harry implored. "I'll be just a minute."
He nodded and watched as Harry loped off to the group at the bar, laughing and joking, having fun. He knew he'd never fit into the world that Harry lived in and he knew it made wanting him all the more foolhardy.
After he finished his drink and waved off Pansy (who was leaving with the lovely brunette that Harry had spotted her going after earlier) he decided to leave. His reputation had improved quite a bit since the time directly following the war but he wasn't anyone's first choice for a best mate and he didn't really like drinking alone.
Shrugging on his cloak he headed out the door, meandering down the sidewalk and debating stopping for a coffee when he heard his name being shouted and footsteps racing after him.
He turned to see that Harry had almost caught up to him, "You left," he said accusingly.
Draco raised one shoulder, "Didn't feel much like staying any later."
"Look," Harry said, "I," he trailed off, tucking a stray curl back behind his ear.
"You what?" Draco asked, taking a step closer to Harry.
"I wondered if you might want to get a drink with me?"
Draco blinked, "We just left the bar."
Harry scuffed his toe over the ground, "Yeah," he agreed. "That's why I didn't want you to leave."
"You could have waited until next time," he said reasonably.
"But that's just it," he said. "You always leave early and I never get the chance to ask you."
"Always, huh?"
He shrugged, ducking his head, "Well, for at least a year."
He smiled, feeling warm and pleased.
"I really like you," Harry confessed softly, "And it doesn't seem appropriate to ask you out for a drink when we're at work, so I keep tryin-"
"Yes," Draco interrupted, laughing and putting Harry out of his misery. "Maybe, we could have dinner instead of a drink?" he suggested.
"Yeah?" Harry asked, perking up considerably.
"Yeah, if you want to?"
He nodded eagerly, "There's a little Italian place down the street."
"I like Italian," Draco said with a little smile.
"I like you," Harry replied.
He grinned, "So you've said."
The other man bumped him with his shoulder and started walking off down the sidewalk.
"I like you, too, you know," Draco said.
Harry grinned down at his feet. "Can I hold your hand?"
He couldn't help but smile, "If you must."
"I really think I must," Harry replied, reaching over and slipping his fingers through Draco's.
"So years huh?" he teased lightly.
Harry huffed, "Oh come off it. Pansy told me you've been pining after me since eighth year."
"She what?" Draco yelped, pulling back from Harry so he could look at him.
Harry laughed and tugged him back over to his side. "It's alright because I've liked you since eighth year, too."
"Well I suppose that's alright then."
He smiled over at Draco, warm and bright, "better than alright."
"Better than alright." Draco agreed with a smile.
