Dan Heng was having a leisurely conversation with the love of his life and foreseeable future, you, when his hobbies were brought up, one of them was photography. With this came the bright idea of a photoshoot, although at first he was unsure, he knew he would regret it if he said no.

After a fun day of running around the express, taking very beautiful pictures of things, people and pompom. After that photo marathon he, initially wanted to upload the pictures into the data bank, but you insisted he take a few more of you before all that...

And how could he say no?

Being the amazing boyfriend that he is, he did as he was told ( totally not because he had a dirty dirty little idea for this private photoshoot).

He knew what your main intention was, how could he not? Of course you noticed how he gave you bedroom eyes the entire day, and yesterday night, how he was literally attached to you, holding you in some way whether it be as innocent as hand holding or him rubbing you thigh ( and veeeeerrrrrrrrrrry close to your private area).

But everyone brushed it off as Dan Heng being clingy because he felt like it. This was a normal occurrence once he was comfortable enough to make your relationship public ( to the express crew, of course). (The most PDA you'd get out of him is hand-holding).

So far the photo shoot was going okay, fine, slow...he was getting impatient. But who is he to complain? He got some stunning shots of your beautiful face...and some derpy looking ones with double chins and shit ( it's for blackmail purposes lol).

You suggested a *genius* idea of slowly stripping off your clothing bit-by-bit. You knew the effect this would have on poor baby Dan Heng. He was getting more impatient, you were doing it so slowly on purpose, you knew it was ticking him off and he knew that you knew that you were trying to piss him off.

So what did he do?

He started telling you to do more poses. This guy straight up turned the tables, and said suffer. So both of your horny asses were teasing the other...until he broke. Hastily (and gently) putting his camera down before pouncing onto you.

His sudden attack made the both of you fall onto his diky little mattress, the bed wasn't even made, and you hit your head into his soft pillow that smelled strongly of his scent.

Dan Heng always feels like the luckiest man when hes with you, but something about waking up with you beside him either still sleeping soundly or awake gazing at him hits different.

The intimate moment you both share when sleeping together is something he wouldnt trade for the world

Its one of tbe only times you both get peace and quiet around.

If you still end up sleeping, he'll observe your features. The quite snore you make, the way your brows furrow from time to time, like your dream was extreamly serious

If you wake up before him though, he gets a bit flustered when he finally wakes up. Seeing your eyes look at him longingly as you broke the silence between the 2 of you "morning dear". It gets him everytime

he truly is the luckiest man in the universe.

SAMPO

Sampo is a comic relief. Hes an idiot and a pain in the ass

All of which you have grown accustom to over time

Lots of people dont get how you can put up with his pathetic ass but here you are.

Sampo is well aware on how lucky he is to have such a patient partner like you and wouldnt dare take advantage of your kindness towards him.

He tries to make it up to you, be it giving gifts, acts of service or intimate moments between the 2 of you

You appreciate it all, but Sampo felt like he didnt hit the spot yet, one of which would make you truly appreciate what hes got to offer

After all youve given much more to him than you know,

Accepting that, although it can get lonely sometimes, you are willing to wait for him to come home, and finally get the rest you both deserve together.

- BLADE who never thought he’d ever become a dad because of the life he lives, so much regret and grief in his heart so therefore he would start off a bit rocky, he was a bit unsure and didn’t quite understand the aspects of being a father and that worried him so much. he was terrified of not fulfilling his duties and responsibilities as a father but you always reassured him that he’s doing the best he can and that’s what truly matters.

- GEPARD who does his best to protect his wife and his children, sometimes you would tell stories to your kids about how amazing gepard really is, and how he’s the captain of the silvermane guards! i bet if they still had fears over little things like monsters under their beds etc your daughters would always go to gepard so he can “fight” the monsters off, gepard finds it so adorable how go to him whenever they’re scared, because he knows he can protect them from anything <3

dan heng stood there, silently watching as your back was facing away from his, talking to jing yuan as the battle from earlier was now dissipated.

he was in a state of dilemma.

after finally transforming to his former vidyadhara self, the imbibitor lunae, so many happened at once that lead to this fateful reunion that many did not expect to happen. even to himself.

he was the kind of man that wanted to tend to his own problems, the weight which he had grown tired the most was carrying the burden of his past sins, the burden of being in someone else's shadow.

he was not dan feng anymore, he was just dan heng. the present him that finally embraced the truth of his own past and now wants to move on.

to settle this once and for all, was something he needed to do. what he wished to do so that he could not be shackled anymore from his past being.

as he was mulling over the words that he wished to convey to you, it almost felt like he couldn't breathe once he saw you finally approaching him.

he could see from his peripheral view that yingxing, even jing yuan managed to give you both some space, of course he thought, they were solely the ones who knew about your past with him.

the distance between you both felt like it should've stayed that way.

the pain of having to see your past lover in front of you but not the lover you once knew was a different kind of pain. it was gnawing. you didn't want to show that to him, that you were weak, that it was almost hard for you to look at him like this.

it took a while for you to open your mouth, neither of you moved from your spot. the sky was now becoming a vivid orange, signaling that dusk was drawing near.

"i am not him." those were the first words you heard from him after all the years that you've not spoken to each other.

it definitely was a start, but even if the pain was starting to become unbearable, you still gave him a smile which dan heng was taken aback. his striking blue eyes seemingly wavered at the sight.

"of course you aren't. the 'you' that you are now, is not the dan feng that i used to know."

dan heng took a moment to process your words. was that a hint of sadness he heard in your tone?

the memories of his past was all but a faded dream to him, he should have forgotten the memories of dan feng with his past lover but even so, he could not ignore the way his heart clenched seeing you like this. because even if he dreamt of you from his past, once he got to saw you again, the you that was now in front of him was as clear as the sky above him.

it felt like torture.

why was he hesitating now of all times? he should be spilling those words that he wanted to say since earlier. making it clear to you, that he was not the man that you once cherished before and he didn't want to do anything that could make him remember the past anymore.

"it's okay dan heng..you need not to say anything more. i understand now. i am just happy to see that you are doing well this time."

the words you'd given him were all kind, from the beginning, there was not a hint of any malice from you. which he expected for you to feel , because if his memory of leaving everything behind was correct, it was his choice to leave that life of his. his choice to also leave you.

this feeling of remorse, was it because he was still tied with dan feng? or because..

even now, speaking to him, you did not even spoke his former name, or his past. you were just acknowledging the fact that this was real. that you already knew that this was bound to happen.

his thoughts paused from the sound of someone calling out his name. "dan heng!" he glanced from his side as he saw his team, his newfound friends in this life, waving over to let him know that they were there, waiting for him.

once he turned his gaze back to yours, you were already taking a step back from him. "you should go. they seem eager to have you back."

he unconsciously clenched his hands from his sides. this was supposed to make him feel at ease now. and you just made it easy for him to finally let go.

dan heng nodded at your admission before giving you a slight bow, now turning his back on you.

not even three steps in, he felt his jaw clenched, closing his eyes for a moment before flashes of those fragment memories with you felt like a stab to him.

"do you believe in reincarnations dan feng?"

your hands always felt soft. he was laying his head on your lap as you two bathe in the peaceful glow as the sun was beginning to set. the wind swaying over the wisteria tree above you.

"why do you ask?" he did not need to open his eyes to know that you were smiling above him, hands continued to caress his soft hair.

"i'm beginning to believe that it's real. i wish we could meet each other again in our next lives." there was something behind your voice that urged him to finally open his eyes to look at your expression.

he was right. your eyes seemed to be glossed over, wearing a melancholic smile that he so wanted to replace with your usual soft ones.

"then i vow to search for you in my next one."

when he opened his eyes again, it didn't take a while for him to turn his body to face yours, you were already walking over to the other side.

you felt a sudden tug before you whirled around with widened tearful eyes as you took in his appearance again. his hand traveling from your arm to your wrist, your heart felt like it was hammering behind your chest.

"dan heng..."

if there was any lingering doubt left in him, the soft look in your eyes confirmed it for him.

just as he realized that it was hard for him to let this go, to let you go, it was the same thing for you.

“Uhm...” you murmured, looking up at Dan Heng’s seated figure on a ledge, which seemed to amplify his already impressive height.

“Can’t you come down? My neck is starting to ache from this constant upward gaze,” you complained, clearly feeling the strain on your neck.

“No, this view is much better,” Dan Heng replied, his tail discreetly poised behind you, ready to catch you off guard.

“What do you mean by a better view?” you asked, irritation evident in your voice, as his behaviour began to grate on your nerves.

In a sudden moment of surprise, you yelped as his tail ensnared you, binding your arms together. Dan Heng’s tail pulled you closer to him, and he brushed away the strands of hair obscuring your forehead before planting a gentle kiss.

“And it’s the perfect height for forehead kisses,” he said, a teasing smile playing on his lips, thoroughly amused by the dishevelled state of your hair and the blush colouring your cheeks.

“You’re so...” you began, before his hand started patting the top of your head.

“H-hey! Let me go!” you exclaimed, attempting to wriggle free from his tail, only to find it tightening around you.

“Nope~” Dan Heng replied, continuing to pat your head while keeping you securely within his tail’s grasp, relishing in your captivity for a while longer.

“Can somebody handle the emails from the Realm-Keeping Commission?” Mr. Yang asked as he rushed through the intern’s cubicle area. He had a cup of tea in one hand and a handful of folders in the other. “They’ve had a recent breach of contract issue so we should be getting an influx shortly.”

“I can handle it!” you immediately spoke up, sparing your cubicle-mate a brief glance. You had a smile on your face but your eyes were urging him not to butt in.

Dan Heng smiled back. “I’ll help her.”

“Great.” Mr. Yang nodded in appreciation. “We have such hard-working interns this year.“

Your eye twitched as you replied, “Right. Great.”

Once the intern director left, you turned to glare at Dan Heng. He was nonchalantly typing on his computer, no doubt responding to the Commission’s emails already. A job that you should’ve been doing alone. Alongside a million other things that naturally came with being an unpaid intern.

You wanted to prove yourself here. The Astral Express was well known in the industry and you wanted nothing more than a job offer after the internship. But how could you possibly secure that when Dan Heng constantly stole your shine? You had to keep pushing. Keep striving to do more and impress your bosses.

“Hey, Y/N,” said Dan Heng. “If you have too much on your plate, I can take care of the emails today.”

Heat rose to your cheeks as you frowned in indignation. “You think I can’t handle it?”

He titled his head to the side. The innocent look on his face made you more upset. You couldn’t tell if he was making fun of you or if he truly believed you were someone pitiful who needed constant help.

“Of course you can handle it,” he reassured. “I don’t doubt that. I just don’t want you to take on too much of the workload. I’ve noticed you push yourself quite a lot.”

You shook your head. “I’m not pushing myself too much. I can do it.”

Dan Heng’s gaze softened. “You know yourself best. But I just hope you don’t overwork yourself too hard. We’re only unpaid interns, remember.”

You puffed your cheeks indignantly. Of course he could say something like that and still be a top performer. “Thanks for the consideration, but don’t worry about me. Now, if you’ll excuse me… I better get back to work.”

He only nodded in response.

As you started scanning through the emails on your computer, responding to the ones you have already finished, you felt Dan Heng still looking at you. You turned your face away from his desk so you wouldn’t be directly in his field of vision, unsure why he was staring but not really wanting to find out. Besides, you had more important things to get to. How could you possibly get more work done than Dan Heng if you were too busy worrying about why he kept looking at you?

Perhaps his innocence was a facade and he was playing mind games to slow you down.

With a huff of determination, you worked extra fast, not wanting to let his plan succeed. He’d have to do better than that to win.

It was your lunch break the next day and for the first time since you started (except for those times Mr. Yang wanted to take the interns out for lunch), you were not eating at your desk to work through the lunch period.

Apparently, HR was visiting the office so you all had to follow all the policies, no matter how silly anyone found them.

Instead of your desk, you were eating at a shaded seating area outside of the office. If you weren’t going to work through your break, you might as well enjoy it and get a breath of fresh air while you were at it. With your high ambition and willingness to push yourself for this internship, you were aware it probably seemed like you were a workaholic of sorts. That wasn’t exactly true.

You saw the important of work-life balance and valued it, but you also figured an internship is where you were supposed to work extra hard. Then, once you secured the job, you would be free to relax.

You took a bite of your sandwich you packed as you stared off at the gently swaying trees in the distance.

“Hey.” You almost jumped at the sudden sound. “Can I join you?”

You slowly turned towards Dan Heng, blinking. First, he tormented you in the office as an intern who provided ample competition. Now, he wanted to torment you during your lunch too?

Despite your inner thoughts, you didn’t want to be rude. Deep down you knew he was also just an intern doing his best. You just had to do better.

“Sure,” you acknowledged. “Have a seat, nemesis.” The words escaped your mouth before you could stop yourself. “I mean… Dan Heng…”

His brows furrowed. “I find it hard to believe those two words could get confused so easily.”

You cleared your throat. “Not sure what you mean.” Before Dan Heng could respond, you changed the subject. “What did you bring for lunch?”

As he sat next to you, he showed you his opened tupperware. It contained the yummiest smelling food with very neat presentation. You figured it probably tasted even better than it smelled or looked.

“I packed a bento box for today.”

You looked down at your soggy sandwich. Was even lunch a competition to him? Did he have to be the best at everything? You vowed to look up the most intricate lunch recipe and show it off to him once you made it.

He looked at your sandwich wordlessly before taking a bite of tender meat.

Your face burned in shame.

Tomorrow, you told yourself. Tomorrow you’d show him.

Today, your internship started around noon. It wasn’t a whole day of work and you knew fully well you didn’t need to pack lunch. Still, you stayed up all night perfecting this recipe and you had to show Dan Heng you were worthy competition as well. You even made enough servings to pack a meal for Dan Heng to try too.

Towards the middle of your shift, you walked over to his desk.

He paused his typing and looked up at you. “Can I help you?”

You held out a tupperware of your homemade food. “Look. I made this.”

Dan Heng’s eyes widened as he cautiously took the container from your hands. “For me?”

“Yeah. I saw your bento box yesterday and wanted to prove that I can also cook! Just like I can do all the work we’re assigned!”

Confusion was written all over his face but he still managed to smile. “First, thank you for making this for me.”

You looked at him, equally confused. Why did he sound so sincere? You simply wanted to prove a point. Not do something out of the kindness of your heart.

“Second,” he continued, “I do agree you can do all the work we’re given. Have I made you feel like I believe otherwise?”

“Not exactly… It’s just you keep offering to help me even when I say I’ll do it!” you explained passionately. “You keep trying to steal my work and do more than me!”

Dan Heng blinked, mouth opening then closing. He opened his mouth once more, trying again. “I wasn’t aware you viewed it as me stealing your work.” He rested his chin on his hand as he thought things through. “I didn’t want you overexerting yourself so I was only trying to help ease your workload… I’m sorry for undermining your hard work.”

“You’re not doing it on purpose?”

“No. I admire your determination and how you always step up to the task— I would never want to take away from that,” he said earnestly. His stare was unwavering as he looked into your eyes. “I more than admire it, actually. I find it quite attractive even.”

You gaped at him, unmoving. “Huh?”

“Attractive, endearing, cute… Do you need more synonyms?”

“Me?” You pointed at yourself.

Dan Heng nodded. “Well, I was referring to your work ethic. But yes. You as well.”

You bashfully stood up straighter. “You’re not too bad yourself, I suppose.”

That wasn’t a lie. You did find Dan Heng rather attractive. His hair was dark and messy, falling around his eyes in a way you could only describe as perfectly framing the vibrant blues. He had a pretty face and a serious demeanor that initially drew you to him— Until he started competing (as you saw it, at least) with you in your internship.

As you stared at each other in silence, Mr. Yang came in with a stack of papers. “Good afternoon, everyone. Can someone run an audit of the company’s stocks?”

You jumped up, startled. You didn’t except to be interrupted like that, but you quickly regained your composure, rushing over to him to grab the papers. A part of you was thankful for the distraction, but another part of you wanted to see where it would’ve lead. “I can do the audit!”

“Great, thank you!” he said in acknowledgment before rushing back out.

Once Mr. Yang left, Dan Heng turned to you and said, “Let me know if you need any help. I’m here if you need.”

You smiled. Now that you knew he wasn’t trying to best you, you were much more open to the idea of working together. “Sure, I’d love some help.” You paused and Dan Heng raised one brow. Though it came from the heart and the sentiment was there, you both knew it wasn’t completely true. You still did want to be the very best after all. “Well… You can help, but only a little though.”

Dan Heng laughed, accepting the small stack of papers you gave him, not even one fourth as tall as your pile. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.”

You hummed in agreement. Before focusing on your work, you thought of one small thing to ask him. “Hey, Dan Heng?”

“Yes?”

“Maybe next week you can bring me some lunch, too? Or, maybe we could go out for dinner even…”

“I’d love to,” Dan Heng smiled and it was the widest grin you’ve seen on his face thus far, “if you give me more of your paperwork.”

You gasped, feeling thoroughly tricked. So he did want to beat you—?

“That way, we can finish sooner and I can take you to dinner tonight.”

Your train of thoughts stopped in their tracks as a light chuckle escaped your lips. “Fine,” you agreed, finding yourself strangely looking forward to having dinner with him. “But just this once, okay?”

“Of course.”
