(I am working on many more because I am still incredibly down bad for this show and can't stop drawing them)
Hi guys, I want to ask you all for a small favor (please don't skip) 🙏🖤
If you guys follow me on my main blog you know that Dead Boy Detectives has been a huge comfort to me in the last few months (especially recently after an unexpected family loss) and it was canceled without reason. I'm devastated, but I have nearly 2,000 followers on this account so I wanted to take a shot in the dark and beg ya'll to go and sign this petition even if you haven't watched Dead Boy Detectives:
Again even if you didn't watch this show we would appreciate the solidarity as our cause is actually bigger than a show renewal. It'll take no more than 15 seconds and costs absolutely nothing, but it could make a huge difference in our fight against this corporate giant. Also, frankly, it would mean the world to me.
Netflix (and streaming services in general) have gotten WAY too comfortable treating the writers, actors, and crew who work on their shows as expendable. They want to pander to a "mass market" so shows with diverse casts and queer storylines end up suffering every. single. time. Even if you didn't watch Dead Boy Detectives, our fandom wants to challenge this new normal that Netflix is trying to set (a normal that will ruin television and limit creatives).
We just want closure to our story, and we want the people behind these shows we adore to be treated better.
Please let me know if you sign this petition so I can thank you and repay your kidness in some way down the road (a sim of your choosing, a build, etc.).
Thank you guys, I love and appreciate ya'll. Feel free to reblog this post if you feel inclined!
Idk if anyone is a fan of Manifest but it was in a similar situtation as Dead Boy Detectives is: canceled on a cliffhanger and then picked back up. There's a fantastic, enlightening article on how the fans managed to make that happen:
The TLDR, when it comes down to it? VIEWS.
So, Point 1 I'm trying to make: REWATCH THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SHOW. Have it on all day, every day and when it gets to the Netflix Top-10 trending DO NOT STOP. Have it on in the background on a low volume, pop some headphones in if you don't want to hear it. Literally KEEP WATCHING. DO NOT CANCEL YOUR NETFLIX ACCOUNT.
Point 2: If you have a family member or friend who hasn't watched Dead Boy Detectives, ask them to. If they're not interested, here's what I suggest - ask them to let you sign into their account and watch it full through to help boost the viewership. Do it at night when they're sleeping or while they're at work and don't need their account. If Netflix sees an uptick in accounts who have never watched this show watching it, that will raise eyebrows.
They do not care about our feelings. They do not care about the integrity of artful storytelling or the importance of queer representation.
They care about views. We need to give them views. A tremendous turnaround in viewership post-cancellation will make them reconsider. That's how we save our show. It's just like Crystal Palace said - we need a unified front if we're going to face the mistress of doom (Netflix HQ) out there!!!
STREAM THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SHOW and do not stop telling others to do the same! If you were on the fence about watching this show, this is your sign to watch it because we need you now more than ever! I promise you will love it, the show is so meaningful, fun, and special... plus we are an awesome, active fandom with talented writers and artists! You will have a great time here and you know what if you don't like it you can personally kick me in the shin honestly! Please help us save our show!
I may have done a thing...
Charles' sword is his cricket bat, and he's maybe a little too excited about his new pin...
Close up of the pins below the cut
It was so much fun to do all of these :)
Charles Rowland NEEDS to have this pin
The fact that Netflix cancelled Dead Boy detectives but is renewing Emily in Paris for a FIFTH season is mind-blowing.
Entertainment Weekly just placed Dead Boy Detectives on their "Top 19 Best Supernatural Shows to Stream Right Now" list.
Mind you, Dead Boy Detectives is making these lists AFTER cancelation! IT RANKED AT NUMBER 5/19 (and beat out some pretty big names, I might add). The EW is a hugely popular publication! It's so bonkers to me that Netflix would cancel such a highly beloved, successful show that I had to write them about it, yet again!
If you need inspiration to keep talking about Dead Boy Detectives and hold out hope that we can save this show, THIS should help. Keep streaming, keep promoting it EVERYWHERE, keep creating for it, and for the love of all things wonderful keep bothering Netflix. This show shouldn't have been canceled, and we need to keep reminding them of what a poor decision they're making. ESPECIALLY with GeekedWeek coming up, we need to be SUPER noisy for and about Dead Boy Detectives.
A transcript of the email I sent out today can be found below the cut! A list of Netflix exec emails can be found HERE.
!!!! Note: you can use my email as a framework or as inspiration, but DO NOT copy and paste it word-for-word, or else it will be marked as spam !!!!
Dear [Insert Recipient's Name],
I hope this email finds you well! I previously reached out regarding Netflix's unfortunate decision to cancel Dead Boy Detectives, but since our previous correspondence, there have been several articles admonishing the surprising and untimely cancelation of Dead Boy Detectives. The publications include but are not limited to BamSmackPow, CBR, CHIP, Quotenmeter, Serienjunkies, Serienfuchs, Filmstarts, Movie Pilot, Kino, Vodafone Deutschland, Dread Central, Pop Culture, Sentidog, Geek Girl Authority. and Animation World Network.
Three notable articles have come out post-cancelation that I'd like to highlight due to their succinct, well-informed perspectives on why canceling Dead Boy Detectives was a poor decision are as follows:
The Death of 'Dead Boy Detectives' Was Untimely by Lacy Baugher at Tellyvisions.org
Dead Boy Detectives: The Latest Casualty in a Concerning Trend of LGBTQ+ Show Cancellations by Sam Huang at TellTaleTV.com
Netflix made a grave mistake canceling 'Dead Boy Detectives' by David Opie at YahooNews
It would be remiss of me not to emphasize how these publications are not just central to the US and UK; the cancelation of Dead Boy Detectives is being reported and scrutinized internationally, in several languages and countries.
What truly prompted me to contact you again is an article that was released by Entertainment Weekly today, September 11, 2024. In the article, "The Best 19 Supernatural Shows to Stream Right Now," EW placed Dead Boy Detectives in the #5 slot: it outranked other shows on your platform such as Stranger Things (#13) and Wednesday (#18). The Sandman, the show which Dead Boy Detectives is a spinoff of, is notably not present on the list at all. You can find the article here on ew.com.
Dead Boy Detectives was also ranked as the #1 Best DC Live Action Show available on Netflix by MovieWeb, outranking titles such as The Flash (which has a whopping 9 seasons), Lucifer (a show that was so loved by fans that Netflix picked it up after its own untimely cancelation, mind you) and, yet again, The Sandman.
All this to say, Dead Boy Detectives is still making "Best of" lists even after its cancellation, and it is ranking exceedingly well on said lists! This speaks volumes in and of itself; people are just as outraged today as they were the day it was canceled and it's abundantly clear that critics and audiences alike love this show and want to see more of it! You have a hit show on your hands that is growing in popularity daily, meaning Netflix truly has everything to gain by listening to customers and rethinking this objectively unpopular and unfounded decision.
Please do not waste the immense potential of this incredible show that means so much to so many people. I appreciate your consideration today and implore you to listen to the outcries of fans and critics alike, to do right by the cast and crew of Dead Boy Detectives, and ultimately repeal its cancelation.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Please continue interact and share articles about what Netflix has done to our show. Sharing and reposting these articles are incredibly important.
I just LOVE the way the DBD fandom reads the characters so well, like every time I see an analysis of some characters I get excited and I figure out I’ll never see them the same way and it’s so good to develop my perception about them.
Thank you writers for being so careful with characters’ nuances and thank you fandom for give me such a magnificent experience of connecting me that way.
Netflix you’re on my black list for cancelling that perfectly deep and gorgeous show
"we didn't matter."
they didn't matter. whatever they did, whatever they accomplished, no matter how good they were, no matter how much they hid themselves; they. didn't. matter.
charles was stuck in this place in time that was on constant egg shells, anything could set him off. his name, his being, his music, his voice. anything. didn't matter what he did. and then with his "friends". they were everywhere, they decided to kill him because he helped another pakistani boy, and he was half. but even then, he was half. it was a hate crime, it was useless, and nothing he did mattered.
edwin was hidden in a place, he hid with his own thoughts, but he never let them travel far. but it didn't matter. people still just looked at him, just one look and they judged him for his femininity. they looked at him with his books, and how he hid in a corner and they decided to drag him out, and they decided that he should be sacrificed because he didn't matter.
charles was too loud, and edwin was too quiet.
thank god they found each other.
Here we are! My first DBDA "Inktober"
31 prompts for 31 days, you can draw them, write them, make gifs of them or whatever you want! Since we know how things are going with Netflix I would ask you to use the tags "Renew Dead Boy Detectives" and "Save Dead Boy Detectives" and of course DBDATOBER so I can see your creations (and I hope to see a lot of them?? I want more DBDA creations X'D)
Reblog to spread the word, please ❤️
My other art
Is it concerning that I was thinking about them right when “they can’t be separated” came, even before I read they’re names?
fun fact about titanium, the reason it's used in medical stuff is that bone physically bonds with it. they can't be separated. your bones and titanium can exist fine without each other, but once they're together long enough, they cannot be separated without cutting them apart. anyway, let's talk about Charles and Edwin.
Monty found a father figure
I NEED MORE ABOUT THIS AU AND I NEED IT RN OR ILL GO INSANE
Idle thoughts. Idle doodles.
It’s been mine for 3 months now
Okay so this is going to be my entire personality for at least a week.
SAMEEE
rewatching ep3 of dbd today for Research Purposes (a charles introspection fic I'm v excited abt) and god I love this show so much. jayden's expressions are absolutely incredible, charles' emotions are so clear on his face. that's not an actor playing a character, that is genuinely charles reliving trauma. it's absolutely insane how jayden embodies him so well. I want to give charles a hug.
Shit now I need a fanart about it (Charles is completely fascinated by Percy’s sword and Leo tries to find something in Charles bag but ends up with a hand on fire, what’s concerns Charles and that’s how them find out Leo’s powers and the 2 of ‘em are completely amazed, so they start a competition of powers and there it goes a whole day)
Teenage boy team-up: Peter Parker, Percy Jackson, Charles Rowland, and Leo Valdez.
(I mean they’re not all chaotic good ADHD bisexuals with superpowers (or are they) but I would love to see what they could do together.)
I also watch it whenever I can, we’re not alone in this fight
i’m really hoping people haven’t given up on dead boy detectives because i still have it playing pretty much on repeat on my computer every single day trying to up the views (i just leave it playing as i go about my day) and i certainly can’t do that alone
❤️❤️
Completely agreed
Dear Netflix,
Go fuck yourself. Seriously, go get fucked, you suck.
Best regards,
Someone who is sick of your shit.
Hi @netflix and @warnerbrostv! I'd like to talk about the show Supernatural and how its history and legacy can provide some insight on why you should reconsider your decision to end Dead Boy Detectives after one singular season.
Supernatural is undoubtedly one of the most successful television fantasy franchises, but many don't know that it was nearly cancelled after season 2. Thankfully (and luckily) for the network they didn't go through with cancelling the show and by season 4 it was regularly breaking viewership records. A show that was nearly cut short in its prime - much like Dead Boy Detectives - became one of the largest and most recognizable fandoms across social media platforms between the years of 2010 and 2014. The show was so wildly popular that a confession scene between two of its leading characters (Dean and Cas) is STILL used today in a meme format to circulate everything from fandom news to world politics and current events. You can't go to a single comic-con without running into something relating to Supernatural, and ever since its conclusion there has been an opening in the market for a show to take its place.
I can say with absolute certainty that, given the proper time to flourish, Dead Boy Detectives would be the show to fill the spot Supernatural has left behind. It has loads of charm alongside a sensational balance of action, whimsy, heartwrenching character development, and horror. Furthermore it is objectively better with representation than Supernatural was, which is always something embraced in fandom spaces (which are diverse and filled to the brim with queer, neurodivergent, and/or a wide range of people of color).
I also think it's fair to remind you that one of your most popular "Nerd" shows, Stranger Things, is coming to an end after a 10-year-run, leaving behind yet another gap to fill, but this time on your very own platform.
It isn't too late to reconsider the cancellation of Dead Boy Detectives. The fanbase is dedicated and hungry for more, and we know you are currently sitting on finished season 2 scripts, making it impossible for the writers to take this story anywhere else for quite some time. The scripts are there, the cast, crew, and writers love what they do and want to make more... there's simply no reason to not give Dead Boy Detectives the chance it deserves - this time with an entire fandom that wants nothing more than to consume this show, market the hell out of it, and buy merch relating to it (another win for you).

Oh and did I mention that Steve Yockey was a co-producer on Supernatural as well? You know, that wildly popular show I just told you about that lasted 15 seasons. You are sitting on a golden goose; Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz, among the other talented writers, cast, and crew, know what they're doing.
Give this show its time and market it well and you will have a hit on your hands. Frankly just based on the steady, continual fandom growth since Dead Boy Detectives' release in April and the vocal outrage over its cancellation just in the last 24 hours, I'd argue you already have a hit on your hands that rivals several shows you currently have on your platform.
Dead Boy Detectives has one of the most active fandoms of the year - do the right thing by them and bring Dead Boy Detectives back. It isn't too late!
