A fake dating ya romance set in Seoul, Korea where a teen tries to escape the blind dates her chaotic family sets her up on for her aunt's wedding.
One of the few members in her family unable to connect with Korean culture-starting from grasping the language to understanding the mannerisms-the only reason Hyeri Kang comes every summer is to visit her beloved grandfather... who has cancer. This year, though, is more chaotic than ever. Caught up in blind date shenanigans to her aunt's wedding, she employs Taeyoung Kim, who is as infuriating as he is straightforward, as her fake boyfriend to escape awful men who propose to her on the spot. Surely it wouldn't be hard to not fall in love with someone who's connected to a culture she's been resistant towards...

It’s complicated.
You’d think I’d be more excited, coming to Korea over summer break. But this is a mandatory family meeting in the guise of a meeting. Trying not to topple over while dragging the luggage bag from the taxi’s trunk, I glance up at the 11-story apartment. It’s quiet. No hands sticking out through the nets, no voice shrieking our names.
I don’t know whether to be worried or relieved.

It crept up on all of us. Pancreatic cancer, I think- no, know, after my mother translated it for me.
The doctors confirmed it for what felt like the millionth time, their voices flat and tired, and me, struggling to understand what they were saying.

ahhh !! honestly i don't care i'm so proud of myself because I haven't worked on this wip in like 2 weeks and I wrote SOMETHING, even if it was a "in the moment" thing
literally wrote a cute fluffy rain date scene and then jumped ahead to write this emotional one and now my feelings are all over the place
also like hyeri is so bad with feelings and words ?? i feel so bad that she can't express herself the way everyone else around her can, her pride is too big and she's scared of ruining every and any dynamic my heart )):
My biggest nightmare is my Grandpa giving up. I researched it once. They said that cancer is so painful, that being treated like a baby again is so degrading, that they can’t deal with it. But I can’t have him give up. I can’t have him disappear from my life. He’s fought all this time—what’s one more day? That’s what I think, but at the same time, I know how selfish it is to ask him that. I could never ask him to do that, to suffer an extra day, when he can have peace. I’ve imagined the scenario at least a million times in my head. And I still don’t know what I’d say if he asked me—quietly, in Korean—no. It’s stupid, really, having thoughts like these. But I’m spiraling. I can’t stop spiraling. I’m spiraling.

I will say, Sohee is a hot tempered badass bitch. Like she's impatient and the last thing she wants to do is get pulled into confronting powerful ghosts merging both the present day and the past. As of right now, it's a serious option for her because she got tied into this "death mission" by confronting this guy.
So technically, he's the reason her life is hanging by a thread right now. And she's already died once (it's a whole complicated issue), so why not risk another life?

I've been motivated to write, but I've written more drabbles and snippets for random thoughts in my mind more than I worked on this WIP, which I haven't touched in 2 weeks due to stress & life stuff.
Part of me doesn't get why this WIP weighs so heavily on me. Like why can't I work on this idea that I was so excited for? I want to get into this story, but why am I scared? I think it's because I don't want to see the flaws in my writing, but I should, and I should be excited to see them, too. It's part of the writing process-part of my growth.
So I forced myself to write in this WIP for 5 minutes, after writing a bunch of drabbles for hours. In the ten minutes, I got 75 words. It's not a lot. I wish I spent more time on this WIP, so I'm going to try and work on it every day until I finish. If anything, I just want to write it, let my thoughts that have been stirring in my mind out. Because I've been thinking about this WIP for forever, and I really want to finish it.
Here's to hoping I'll find my zone again, at least :)

@catharticallysarcastic ahhh yes happy sts! c: sorry for the late replies, I'm catching up and trying to reply (slowly but surely) I REPLIED ON A SATURDAY, FINALLY
a smell that reminds Hyeri of home is the lavender scent that her grandma always uses. because the apartment where her grandparents live is pretty small (though, her grandmother never fails to invite the whole family still knowing this), the scent is the first thing that hits her when she usually walks in.
mostly associated with good memories, since she's been close with her grandparents! though, i don't know how she'll react to that smell knowing that her grandfather only has a few months to live now...

I FINISHED.
honestly this draft took such a long time and I know the edits will be hard but i'm so excited and elated that it's completed and I know what i want to keep and change and honestly this whole journey itself of battling perfectionism and getting what I want on the page was eye opening.
so even if it might not be the most perfect draft, and I might have to rewrite some major scenes, it's a draft i created with my own hands, and i'm really, really happy that I got to write 'the end.' (though jet-lagged me is dimming the excitement down because i'm so tired lmao)
just need to connect a few scenes and i'll be done with draft 1 of destination seoul AHHHHH
