Twitter is, officially, unironically, dead.
Early today, almost everyone was having trouble viewing anything on Twitter. Eventually Elon tweeted this: viewing limits for all users.
Verified accounts - people who buy Twitter Blue - are limited to reading 6,000 posts per day. Unverified accounts can only read 600, and new unverified accounts only 300. He later updated the numbers to 8,000, 800, and 400 respectively, but the impact is the same. And if you're not logged in, you can't see any tweets at all.
This isn't even interacting with posts, such as liking, replying, retweeting, or quote-tweeting. This is viewing. The one basic interaction required to use any social media site.
Elon Musk is clawing back every basic feature and pushing a pay-to-win scheme onto everyone still on the site. And what do you get if you pay? You get to be in a club filled with the most vile, racist, queerphobic losers on the internet who invest their money into crypto, NFTs, and all sorts of lousy scams. No sensible person is going to pay for that.
Once upon a time, Twitter was a fabulous hub for at-the-moment developments. If there was breaking news somewhere in the world, you could know it within minutes. It gradually became a general hub for people of all walks of life, from artists, activists, politicians, everyday ordinary people.
Now it's just a place where you pay $8 to lick Elon Musk's shoe.

Small observations about tumblr from a former Twitter uesr
Here are a few things I've noticed:
people have much classier profile pictures
"for you" tab doesn't just show you insane people
how does this site's algorithm know some of my interests I've never mentioned
formatting is cool
this site is way better for blogs
liking replies isn't a thing so there's no weird norm where you had to like everything to not seem like an asshole
holy crap i'm actually seeing stuff i like on my timeline

Quick tips for twitter & reddit migrants
Go into Settings -> Dashboard
Turn endless scrolling off (it will turn your dash/feed into a paged one)
Turn Best Stuff First and Include Stuff In Your Orbit off (it's the tumblr algorythm. Turning those off will make your dash chronological as god intended.)
Go into Settings -> Account
This is where you blacklist shit.
If you want to see "adult" content, go turn these on.
Go into Settings -> Blog
Change your icon into something that isn't default. (Doesn't have to be fancy. Can be a pic of kirby.)
Change your header into something that isn't default. (Doesn't have to be fancy. Can be a simple "hi. New to this website.)
Tumblr has a huge bot problem; If you have a default avatar & header, people might assume you're a bot and block you.

I think the truly sad thing is that we could have fit 2 maybe even 3 more billionaires on there if we just stacked them better

So tumblr has started putting this little banner at the top of posts from new accounts, and honestly I kinda dig it. I've seen a lot of people get absolutely eviscerated for doing something that was perfectly normal on their previous platform but a huge faux pas here, and I think this little banner will go a long way to mitigating that.
