Fuzion Frenzy

If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s, you may know of the game Fuzion Frenzy. If you don’t, or you need a refresher, it’s a party game made for the Xbox. A simple google search will give you everything you need to know.

Now I don’t know about you, but i grew up playing this game. I wasn’t good at at since i wasn’t even born when it first came out, but i would try and it was a game my entire family could enjoy together. As i grew older and later in my teen years, i thought about the game more and suddenly, i had fixated on it. Spending all my time doing research and making headcanons for something that no one else knew about.

Luckily, my friends were nice enough to let me talk about the game and i got a few of them to enjoy the concept as well. (and we like to bash on the sequel, it’s just so bad) until i finished saying everything i had in mind, when i came up with a better idea for a sequel, made a cosplay of one of the characters, and ranted about everything about the game that irritated me.

And now I’m going to share them here because why not. Pack your bags, kids, it’s gonna be a long ride.

Now one of the first things i noticed about the game was the setting. Even as a kid it simultaneously intrigued and terrified me. With most party games, the setting is nice and calming. I mean, it may still be a fighting arena, but it had an air of kindness around it that usually comes with the color palettes used. (a good example of this is Mario Party, Gang Beasts, any sort of Wii game) But fuzion frenzy had a very interesting setting. It was dark and depressing, and made you feel like if you didn’t win, then it would be the end. And i feel like that is exactly the reason they did that. That and the fact that it brings more attention to the characters and the objective of each mini game. It gives you more focus as to what is happening, what you should be doing, and provides more drive to win.

But that came with more questions. The main one being: What caused this? What is the story behind the game that the setting as dark and depressing as it was? (idk about you, but whenever i make a story or a character, everything has a reason or purpose. Nothing ever exists just because.) And with all the research i did, i found nothing besides the basics of the game, and information about the characters that was still lacking. So i came up with my own ideas.

First and my personal favorite: the game takes places years after the apocalypse. As society is rebuilding itself, the need for entertainment arises, so Fuzion Frenzy is created to help keep the public happy and is broadcast to the entire world as it gains popularity.

The Second: more of a Danganrompa situation. Where the entire world is a toxic wasteland and the players have to fight to stay in the game so they won’t be thrown out and die.

I decided to go more in depth with the first idea and made a whole ass fanfic about it...that’s how bad this got.

The characters themselves were very interesting, but there were so many inconsistencies when i was researching. Some of them were bad casting choices, some just made no fucking sense compared to the other characters. For example, Geena (the blue player) was from Venezuela, but for some reason, had a british accent; bad casting. The fact that her career was stated to be an orange picker, when her character design very obviously pointed to her being a mechanic, or that she is 27 years old, born in 2024, but Dub (green player) is 28 and born in 2015; no fucking sense. (and it’s like that with all of the characters)

So when i decided to write my fanfic, i decided to clean it up a bit. Give actual reasons for the setting, make the characters interact and be friends, make it seem more like a TV show than a competition, and make their ages and time born make sense instead of Samson (red player) being simultaneously four years younger and ten years younger than Dub.

That’s all I’m going to share for now. But I can share more, answer any questions you have, whatever.

Jet: no one here has any survival or self preservation instincts. I think we were born without them

Dub: that's not possible

Jet: yeah it is. Watch.

Jet: hey guys! let's race down the stairs
