Warnings - None Word count - 1.1k Genre - Fluff Summary - Both Lily and Egon secretly develop feelings for each other. However the both of them are totally oblivious to each others feelings, the other ghostbusters not so much. A/n - This is a part of my friend's self insert storyline, and I offered to write it up for her, so that's why this isn't reader x Egon. She is awesome btw (go follow her 🔫) @lilysketchingsth

Egon's POV
It all started on what I thought was gonna be another normal friday. I woke up at my normal time, had my normal breakfast, and wore my normal outfit. Nothing out of the ordinary. After finishing my breakfast, i headed up to the lab to work on the proton packs or study some pyschomagnetic slime Ray had gotten a sample of. I started working, but soon after, i had Lily and her ghost pet, Pucca, walked in and took a seat. Pucca is a labrador spectre that Winston found in a basement one time, Pucca didn't show signs of aggression, so Winston chose to leave her alone. Pucca had other ideas and decided to follow him all the way back to the firehouse, where Lily eventually saw her and claimed the pup as her own.
Lily started asking me questions about where things were whilst looking round the lab for Pucca's ball. Eventually, she made her way over to my desk and leaned over my lap nonchantlantly. I blinked in surprise , and before i could move my chair back so she could look properly, she jumped up, holding the dog ball. "Ah hah, got it Pucc!" I looked up at Lily to see her smiling widely at Pucca then at me. "Thanks for the help, Dr. Spengler." Her voice almost sounded laced with seduction as she walked off, leaving me silent and flustered in my lab chair.
Then, later on in the day, I was in the kitchen, sipping a cup of coffee whilst reading through my Spirits guide. Nice and undisturbed. But not for long. Soon, I had Venkman coming out of nowhere and snatching the book out of my hand. "Come on, Spengs, me and Lily wanna go get some lunch, and it's Ray's day off, so we need someone to drive us." I raised my eyebrow at him."What about Winston?" Peter looked slightly worried before answering."He's busy helping Janine." I sighed and silently agreed by finishing my coffee and grabbing my jacket.
I drove them into the city where they grabbed some food ,Lily insisted on bringing some back for me, so i ended up with some fries and a drink. On the way back, I kept glancing at Lily in the mirror without really knowing why. Unfortunately, when we were just around the corner from the firehouse, she locked eyes with me. I quickly looked away, and my hands gripped the wheel tighter as I mentally insulted myself. Once back at the firehouse, i grabbed my food and quickly headed up to the lab, not wanting to be frther embarrassed.
However, a little bit later, it became evident that Lily hadn't been the only one to catch my staring. I had just finished fixing up one of the proton packs when Peter walked in and took a seat. "Hey there, Spengs. i got a question for ya?" I glanced up at him, silently acknowledging his question. "Do you have a thing for Lily?" My eyes widened and darted up at him from the pack. "What?! Why the hell would you even think that Venkman?" He smirked, sitting back in his seat. "Don't deny it, I saw how you were looking at her in the car! And not to mention you've never agreed to drive me round until I mentioned Lily's name today." I sighed. There was no way i could lie to him about something like this.
"She's gorgeous, Peter, and she's so caring. She's a hard worker. she's smart, i mean, what isn't there to like about her? But i just, im too busy to be in a relationship Peter, maybe after i stop being a ghostbuster, but not now." Peter ,for once, was actually speechless. He clearly didn't expect me to open up. After a few seconds of silence, Peter spoke. "You don't need to wait spengs, if you do you might never find love, Lily might lose intrest and youll have lost a great oppurtunity." I narrowed my eyes at him. "Lily might do what?" Peter went pale white as the realisation hit him. "Uh, you know what i think. i just heard Winston call me." Before i could say anything, Peter had run off, leaving me to soak in thought.
By the end i was ready for some rest, i started shutting the lab up when there was a faint knock at the door. I turned round to see Lily stood in the doorway. She looked quite shy and almost nervous? "Lily, hello, is there something i can do for you?" She meekly shook her head before speaking up. "Those things that you said to Venkman earlier, about me, were they true?" I just looked at her before sitting back down on my chair. I silently nodded my head before replying "And is it true that you might feel the same way?" I watched Lily, she hesitated before nodding her head again. I smiled sligthly before making my way over to her. "Then how does a date sound? Tomorrow night ,I'll take you out to a nice restaurant?" Lily gasped softly and looked up at me before nodding quickly. "Oh yes, Egon, yes!"
I chuckled before slowly leaning down, I held her hand gently and softly pressed my lips against hers. They were soft and plump, perfect, like every other inch of her. I pulled back soon after looking into her eyes. There was a moment of silence before Lily spoke up "Ive been waiting months for you to do that." I chuckled and clutched her hand as we left the lab. However, after i took a single step out of the lab, there was a sudden burst of cheering. I turned to see the other 3 guys and Janine smiling and cherring. I simply raised an eyebrow at them before they all went quiet. Lily and I bypassed them ,heading up to our rooms.
The next morning, i found out that Lily had confessed to Janine a while back that she liked me, the Janine passe that on to the guys. They then made it their mission to get me and lily together, which became a lot easier when i suddenly and obviously caught feelings for Lily. So peter had lied about Ray being off and Winston helping Janine, it all so that Lily and I would spend time together. Although it's annoying to admit they're right, without the guys, I most likely wouldn't have ended up with the beautiful woman i now call my wife, Mrs Lily Spengler.
Actually sat down and watched Ghostbusters genuinely instead of just passively absorbing it only through the elements that have made it into pop culture and the autism won and I'm obsessed now so I made this

So I surprise surprise was rewatching Ghostbusters 2, and I feel like we don't talk enough about how Egon was kinda resistant to the mood slime. Like we see Ray and Winston go into a full fight the instant they get to the surface but Egon doesn't seem really affected by the slime, now this could be for any number of reasons from Egon having previous *exposure* to the slime or something about his psyche but it's fun
I realized I've never posted about spirits unleashed, so here's part 1 of my photo dump
We got my character
I had a really weird dream about Harold one time, and I say weird cause it was. I don't remember where the hell i even was at, but it was like a quiet bar or restaurant and I think he offered me to sit with him and we just had a conversation like we were old friends. The strangest part however was I somehow ended up at his house, but it was near the end of his life. I can't begin to even describe some of the details that were in my dream that I eerily got right after looking it up. Especially what he looked like when he was sick. Idk why but it hasn't left my head for months, especially after remembering the things that I didn't know in the first place.
Dreams I've had involving Egon.
I dreamt I was his daughter and he died and I had to sign his death certificate I also had to sign Ray's and apparently they were married. Also there was a little boy with me who was Egon's grandson (but not my son) 1/10 I dreamt we were at a frat pary and people were laughing at me and Egon my nerdy boyfriend so I sat in his lap and he stroked my hair (8/10)
I dreamt we were trapped on a haunted subway and he very aggressively made me give him a blow job (12/10)
i also dreamed Harold Ramis was shooting a film where I lived but I was too scared to talk to him so I decided to write to him instead (6/10)
I love Egon so much cause he’s so serious no smiles but so silly at the same time and then at some point he just yells “your MOTHER”
these are the ghostbusters, they tend to point at gay people and– oh hey they found one
I want to say one thing about Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and the whole Ghostbusters franchise: it was made for the autistic community by an autistic person, aka Dan Aykroyd and it shows. It comes across so beautifully in writing and on screen.
Let me explain: the movie came about as a direct result of Dan Aykroyd's hyperfixation and special interest in the paranormal, he's said so himself many times. Aykroyd wrote Ray Stantz as he would embody himself on screen. He's said that. Ray is an extension of himself. Therefore, and naturally, Ray is autistic.
Unlike other depictions of autistic people in media, Ray comes across as likeable and honest. He reads well as a character without diminishing his autistic traits; he's witty, bubbly and excitable about his hyperfixation in parapsychology.
Ray is slightly clumsy, optimistic and slightly dim sometimes. He's the autistic person that is never depicted in media. He doesn't show the stereotypical traits but he is so evidently still autistic. He lacks eye contact and is quite stiff in his motor movements, and his voice is often monotone. But he expresses his excitement through his movements and facial expressions all the same.
And Egon, by extension of that, is a character that a lot of people on the Autism Spectrum relate to - myself heavily included. He portrays a lot of autistic traits but he, also, doesn't come across as unlikeable. He's grounded, well-versed, understands emotions and is shown to be empathetic - even when he doesn't overly understand social cues (for example, when he's comforting Janine in the first movie).
Egon is shown to have a strong connection and relationship with his colleagues and friends, he's witty and uses playful humour in social situations. He understands sarcasm and he's reserved in his use of it. He's adverse to physical touch but he does use it when needed. He's exactly the same as I am. And that's why I hold him so close to my heart.
The connection between Ray and Egon was always really special; they bounced off of one another and finished one another's thoughts. They were able to communicate with each other in good flow always appeared to be on the same wavelength. This is common in a lot of neurodivergent people; we are able to connect in a way that we can't with neurotypicals.
What Afterlife did was give us a fresh outlook on autism through Phoebe. Though it is not stated she is autistic, it is evident that she may be on the spectrum. Phoebe's mum describes her as suffering from "bad co-ordination", and is constantly trying to help her open up and converse with people, which her brother says is "bad advice". This sort of comment is something that auties have heard our entire lives. Seeing Phoebe on screen felt like looking into a mirror into my life and it was so, so important.
Phoebe is shown to be a fantastic scientist, which is depicted as her special interest, and is shown to struggle in other subjects and with other issues. She is shown to be well-versed and straight-forward, just like her Grandfather. Phoebe says that she "exhibits emotions differently" to other people but feels them all the same - which is a common misunderstanding with autistic people.
I think what is also incredible about Afterlife is that everyone is aware of Phoebe's struggles, but she's labeled as a "gifted, intelligent kid" by Paul Rudd's character - even after her mum just listed all the things she struggles with. That's because even now - in 2021 - a female exhibiting all of these traits is unlikely to be diagnosed until later in life. Because autistic traits in women aren't shown to be an issue to people because we know how to mask. Phoebe is still developing into a young person, and her mum dismisses these issues she has because she is intelligent. That's a real issue.
Egon, on the other hand, as a person with the exact same traits, was labeled as a weirdo and outcast. That's a whole other issue.
And it was all so well-written. I love this franchise so much.
Overall, Ghostbusters is the perfect autism representation and I will NEVER shut up about it.
All three of these characters are so well loved, even by neurotypical people, and it's because they're a very raw and very real depiction of an autistic person written by an autistic person. Autism was less understood in the 1980's, so it's no surprise that it wasn't explicitly stated, but I think that adds to the magic. I think it's wonderful that autistic people like me are able to connect with these characters in a way that allistic people never could. That's what makes Ghostbusters such a beautiful franchise for people on the Spectrum.
And we owe it all to Dan Aykroyd and his hyperfixation all those years ago.

Here’s an animation that I did for class! It’s based off a scene in the first Ghostbusters movie :) The original audio was my friends and I recording the lines, so the timing of my animation here is a little wonky trying to match it back to the original movie audio.

I just really wanted to post something, and I’m pretty content with how they look. I could definitely do more but life is catching up to me and I’m not doing well rn lol. I probably will do an actual background and their proton packs! Since it looks kind of silly without them, they still have the straps on that are attached to… Nothing. But you didn’t notice that. So, ya.
Anyways, I think they’re really neat. I love them.
Prob gonna watch Ghostbusters tomorrow anyways
