front facing egrets making me lose control of everything
The Black Egret is a species of bird that occupies African, coastal streams, rivers and flats. They use a unique and effective fishing strategy called Canopy Feeding. This is when they cloak their wings around Themselves to shade the water and entice fish into their seemingly safe shade.
I love an Egret and a swamp :)

So much of this year has involved loss on personal and vast worldwide scales. For me it involved loss of trust, loss of support systems, loss of safety, loss of jobs, loss of hope, loss of health, and at times prepping for possible loss of life. I have been scraping together what I can to regain of those things that feel lost, as I don’t believe all are always gone forever. I keep telling myself “this month will be better” only to have it sort of crumble in my hands, but I can’t give up. We all have small spark inside that can keep us going. Even if I have very dark days where it seems to burn low it always comes back. I hope it keeps you going too.
We all are suffering, but we all can improve one another’s lives if we choose to care. I apologize if I sound a little sappy here, but please make the choice to stop today and reach out to someone and offer them something they need. Whether it is financial (if you can), help picking something up for them, just a card, an offer for a coffee, or just your presence and a listening ear.
Give some of your spark to someone who feels their’s burning low so we can all get out of this time together.
If you like this piece I will have mini prints available within two weeks. You can get large prints at my Inprnt, or pledge at the Sovereign tier at my Patreon (which is $4 cheaper than buying it on my Etsy) and get this as this month’s mini print reward if you pledge before May 1st! Both are linked in my link tree in my profile. Thank you all as always for all the support you’ve offered me over the past few months whether it was financial, emotional, or just some quick kind words. It has helped me keep going during a time where I have sometimes felt extremely broken and alone.
Find prints and more.
Happy International Women’s Day
Prints of this are for sale at my Inprnt and Etsy and stickers are available at my Etsy too if you are interested!
So much has changed in the world since I last drew this, which wasn’t even that long ago, and yet nothing has. Women are still a vulnerable in our society physically, financially, and more. We are nowhere near accomplishing the wish for peace, equality, and safety for all that I put into the last version. On top of that there is a current loud and amplified hate for any womanhood that falls outside of the cis “norm” so that is top of mind for me too now. We can’t just support cis women and watch as trans women are harmed over and over. Like mentioned my original piece was about hopefully finding a day in the future where all women can live without fear of harm or discrimination simply based on their gender, and this is still true with a emphasis on ALL women
I hope again for all my friends and family, and all the people who see this piece and beyond that we one day live in a world that is so much safer, accepting, and loving
Egret
Pupsitter
Born to Unnamed mother and Unnamed father
Egret was born to a seaside pack that had an unusual obsession with shiny things. The pack itself was very laid back, content with their current way of living. However, their neighboring packs described them as “lazy” and “a disgrace to wolf-kind”.
Egret is the oldest of a litter of 6 pups. She grew up leading them into trouble and adventure, but also took care of them more so than her own mother did. Her mother and father had more litters after hers, and she gladly took them under her wing as well.
She gained the attention of most of the single males in her pack, and she had her fun. However, she quickly grew bored of the day-to-day life and left to explore the world.
Her charismatic and friendly nature caused her to meet many wolves and other creatures. One of these wolves happened to be Remus, and when he offered her a place in his pack (which, he admitted rather shamefully, was not much of a pack, as it was only him and Marisol) she agreed.
While Egret didn’t get along with Marisol at first, she quickly settled in. She had a basic knowledge of herbs and made herself useful by healing the pairs’ cuts and scrapes.
Pretty soon, she realized she was pregnant. Going to Remus, she asked him if he could raise the pups as his own, since she wasn’t sure who the father was. He agreed and in a few months’ time, she gave birth to Plover and Blue Jay.
Marisol slowly warmed up to her, especially when she had her own pups and Egret cared for them as if they were her own.
Overall, Egret acted as a mother for the entire pack. Wolves could go to her for advice, a nice chat, or comfort.
Some slightly older drawings, here, they're sketches I drew at the Dublin Natural History Museum. I love that place! I visit it every time I'm in Dublin, ever since my dad first took me there. It can be slightly creepy considering the number of unbelievably old skeletons they have on display... but it's great for studying animal anatomy, and drawing's one way of paying respects to these creatures long since departed. I might upload a few more, maybe.
