How would the mercs react to finding their partner crying?
Sniper~ A little awkward. Comes over quietly and wraps an arm around them, pulling them close. He’s not good with words, but this time he doesn’t need to be.
Spy~ Stays across the room from his partner and doesn’t make eye contact. Slowly sits somewhere that isn’t too close. He doesn’t want to intrude where he isn’t wanted. Everyone has secrets, even from their loved ones. Softly asks if they're alright after a while,.
Engineer~ Immediately goes and hugs them tight. To be honest, after seeing them cry for a while, he might actually get teary himself. He hates to see them upset.
Scout~ Frowns when he sees them and kneels in front of them. “Y’alright? Ya need me ta do anythin’?” After a moment or two he tries to make them laugh to make them feel better.
Medic~ Softly mutters “Leiber?” when he sees them. Sits next to them and puts his hand on their leg. He doesn’t want to smother them, but wants to show hes there if they need him. Seeing them upset breaks him a little. He can’t heal emotional wounds, but he can try and soothe them.
Demoman~ “Do you want me te go, love?” Stands at the door, ready for whatever the answer. He knows sometimes when hes upset that company isnt always appreciated. When he’s welcomed in, he sits near them and presses his head into the gap of their neck and shoulder. He stays quiet, letting them decide whether to talk or not.
Pyro~ Panics a little. What do they do?? Do they hold them? Kiss them? Do they leave? ends up kinda staying still and making comforting gestures at them.
Heavy~ Holds them close, but doesn’t squeeze them too tight, in case they don’t want to be held. Lightly rests his chin on their head and kisses at their hair. Rubs a soothing hand down their back. Just having him there helps them a lot.
Soldier~ “GOOD GOD, PRIVATE, WHERE ARE YOUR BALLS!? I WILL KICK THOSE TEARS ASSES BACK INTO YOUR EYE-HOLES! HOW DARE THEY ESCAPE YOUR RAVISHING FACE! NO, WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING, GET THOSE TEARS BACK OUT HERE SO I CAN BEAT ‘EM UP.”

When you told Sniper that you worked with dogs that had been abused by their owners, he immediately wanted to come into work with you
It was sad, seeing dogs cowering in their pens and flinching whenever someone came close
He would watch as you worked with them, not trying to force any contact or anything, just sitting there with treats in your hand and letting them come to you.
You then introduced him to one of the dogs that you had adopted, a sweetheart of an Australian Cattle dog who you had named Chilli (yeah it’s a Bluey reference. So what.)
She had been found tied up in someone’s yard, severely dehydrated.
You had spent weeks slowly earning her trust until you two were inseparable.
He loves her to bits, and he joins you when you take her on walks.
So many snuggles.
She is your and his child now. You are dog parents. There is no escaping it.

Another big dog lover
He purposefully sobers up when you offer to take him into work with you, as he didn't want to accidentally frighten the dogs.
He almost bursts into tears at the sight of the dogs, and he silently wants to kill the people who abused them a thousand times over.
He watches you in awe as you help them to trust people again; you look so gentle and kind.
When you introduce him to your big fluffy golden retriever Tommy he instantly fell in love with him.
He was found as a stray and was very timid at first, but he eventually became a big loveable goofball.
So many snuggles with you and Tommy. You've almost suffocated twice.
Now you have two loyal boys to love :)

Pretty fond of dogs, I head cannon he had one growing up
When you told him about your job, he thought it was a very admirable thing to do
He loves watching you work with the dogs, gently coaxing them, not forcing anything and letting the trust build between you.
Sometimes he helps, but most of the time he just watches
You eventually introduce him to your lovely greyhound Evie. She had been used as a racing dog, and her owners had been very abusive, often starving her for days.
She’s still a little shy, but she was much more sociable now.
Engie simply adores her, and she can normally be found lying at his feet in his workshop as he works.
Cuddle piles are a regular occurrence with you. He made a special little corner of his workshop especially for them.
There is no escape from the cuddles
