Three’s A Party: Four x Reader x Eric

TrAshy Says: This literally just popped into my head so if it’s shit, you know why. No hate to Tris but reader’s jealousy is almost as bad as her boys ;)

Warnings: A little violence, Suggestive themes

__________

“I don’t know how you do it, Y/N.” Tori exhales, nimbly dodging your fury of punches.

Though she preferred the laid back nature of tattooing, Tori still liked to spar, especially with you. It was the perfect time to catch up on life and hone your fighting skills. You guys may have been best friends, but neither of you went easy on each other, as told by the bruises that were starting to form on both your bodies.

“Do what?” you breathe, blocking a high kick. “Date both of them. One of them is bad enough, but both? Together? You’re just asking for trouble.”

This isn’t the first time your relationship has been the topic of conversation, but it still catches you off-guard all the same. Tori uses this to her advantage and swipes your feet from under you, knocking you flat on your back and pinning you underneath her booted foot. You tap out begrudgingly, and she half-smiles at your glare before helping you up.

Should Be Happy - Four

Four x Fem!reader

Warnings: none

Summary: brothers should be happy for their sisters to have good guys

“Y/n, your brother already hates me I can’t make you late to help him out with the initiates to.” Four said trying to get up out of bed. Which is not easy since Y/n is a cuddler.

“Correction you hate eachother. It’s not one-sided.” Y/n stated as she poked him. Then Y/n decided to get up and get dressed to, since he does have a point about being late.

“Still” Four nod’s

“Hmmmmm! Walk me?” she asked turning to face him fully dressed, biting her lip.

“Y/n-” Four shook his head

“Pleeeeaaasssseeee” Y/n wrapped her arms around his neck rocking on her feet.

Four rolled his eyes and sighed neither him or Eric could ever say not to her. “Fine. I’ll walk you.”

“Good” she smiled leaning up to kiss his cheek

^        ^        ^

“Your late” Eric said with crossed arms as he saw Y/n enter the training room. Late.

“Sory” Y/n muttered under her breath as she came to stand right next to him. Watching over the initiates.

“Did the stiff keep you” he grumbled adjusting his position.

Y/n scoffed and leaned down to tie her shoe “oh cut the crap, Eric.”

Eric shook his head, squinting his eyes at a couple initiates “I can’t like you being with him”

“Well too bad, because I love him. He loves me so deal with it.” Y/n stood up straight and turned to face her brother. “You should be happy that I’m with Four.” Y/n stated

“Whys that?” he gave her a disgusted look

“Because out of everyone he’s gonna treat me with respect. And that’s what you should want for your little sister.” she gave her brother a pointed look, crossing her arms. All Eric could do was grunt annoyed at his sister. Because he knows she’s right.

Worried About Whats To Come - Eric Coulter

Eric x Fem!reader

Warnings: none

Word count: 723

Summary: readers worried she might not pass training

Masterlist

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

image

“Do you think I’ll pass?” Y/n asked feeling Eric come up behind her on one of the abandoned rooftops of Dauntless.

“Your one of the best initiates in awhile that Dauntless has seen. And that’s what Max told me, and Four.” He answered coming right up behind her

Y/n sighed “But am I gonna pass.” clarifying her point more

“Why would you not pass if your considered one of the best?” Eric questioned her trying to figure out what she exactly wanted him to answer.

She put her head down “I’m just worried about it.”

He moved his arms around her, holding her to his chest “Don’t be.”

“Kinda hard not to be when the other option is being factionless.” Y/n mumbled, leaning back into him.

Eric stiffened at her words. Not ok with even the thought of her becoming factionless. “You’re not gonna be factionless.” He stated tightening his hands around her.

“You can’t know that.” she shook her head slightly

“I can tell you for a fact there’s no way in hell I’d let that happen. Got it?” Eric stated firmly

Y/n’s her head to lean back against his shoulder “Don’t promise that. Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

Eric spun her around to face him. Looking her in the eyes to promise. “That’s a promise I don’t plan on breaking. I’m never gonna let anything bad happen to you.”

Y/n cast her gaze down and started playing with his hands. “Hey look at me.” he spoke softly. Once Y/n was looking up at him he continued. “You never have to worry ok? Not when you’re with me.”

Y/n nodded, believing him. Eric pulled her into his chest hugging her tight to him and she returned the gesture. “We should head back in. I should already be back with the other initiates getting ready for bed.”

As she got off the ledge she had been sitting on and headed to the exit door that leads back to the staircase, when Eric stopped her grabbing her arm. “What?” Y/n asked softly.

“Stay at mine tonight.” he stated more than asking but she could tell by his eyes he was asking.

“You could get in trouble. I could get in trouble. Initiates cant have relationships with already Dauntless members, let alone a leader and an initiate.” she shook her head with scared eyes thinking of the consequences.

“It’s one night. Besides in a day you’ll be no longer an initiate but a fully Dauntless. Then we won’t have to hide.” he gave her a hint of a smile.

“Ok” Y/n couldn’t contain her smile it is contagious

^     ^     ^

As Y/ns eyes started to flutter open she saw Eric sitting on the edge of his bed right next to her, smiling at her. “Morning”

“Morning” she smiled at him sleepily

“How was your first night here?” he asked brushing her hair out of her face that had fallen there in her sleep.

“Good. First night, huh?” Y/n bit her lip

Eric leaned on his arm resting over her body on the opposite side his bodies on. Looking down at her before speaking “Well, after you pass initiation we won’t have to hide anymore and I was thinking if you want to you could move in here.”

She raised her eyebrows in shock “you want me to live here with you?”

“If you want to.” he answered trying to hide the fact that he basically just asked her to move in, and that he is nervous about her reaction.

“Oh, I defiantly want to.” Y/n answered quickly. “I just didn’t know if you were this serious about “us”.” she looked down playing with the shirt he let her borrow to sleep in.

“Why wouldn’t I want us to continue after your finally Dauntless?” he furrowed his eyebrow in confusion

“I just didn’t know how long you planned on this- us after initiation.” Y/n asked nervously

He moved his hand to grab hers and intertwine them. Gaining her attention. “I don’t know about you but I don’t see this ending. If ever.”

“I like the sound of that.” she smiled at him with a light blush

“Good” he smiled leaning down to give her a kiss on the forehead before going to make breakfast.

Why Do You Care? - Eric Coulter

“What are you doing here?” Eric asked, slightly irritated that he had to come down to the training area again today.

“I’m training. What does it look like?” Y/n stated not even turning to look at the annoyed leader. She just continued on punching the punching bag.

“Why are you training right now?” he asked, taking another step into the huge room.

Y/n shrugged, changing her stance before continuing on. “Because I want to and I can.”

Eric sighed, done with her answers to his questions. He walked over to her with heavy, loud steps. “You have a concussion. You shouldn’t be doing much of anything right now.”

Y/n didn’t stop before hearing his words which just pissed Eric off so he reached out and grabbed her bicep to physically stop her movements.

“Why do you care?” Y/n glared at him as she asked the question. Not even bothering to struggle in his grip.

Eric growled her name “Y/n-”

“No, Eric. Why do you care? You’re always giving me shit and you hate my brother. So why do you give a damn?” Y/n shook her head, cutting him off. Y/n ripped her arm out of his hold, staring at him right in the eyes.

“Your brother irritates me.” Eric grumbled narrowing his eyes at the y/h/c-ered girl in front of him.

“Oh, no shit.” she tipped her hand letting out a scoff.

“But” he interrupted looking off in the distance. “You don’t.”

“What do you mean?” Y/n asked, now intrigued and confused. Especially at the fact that he wouldn’t look at her.

“If I tell you will you come rest?” Eric bargained looking her in the eyes with raised eyebrows.

“Will you actually tell me?” she questioned back matching his expression.

“Yes” he growled back, staring at her waiting for her response.

“Fine.” Y/n nodded in agreement. It wasn’t a bad deal, plus she was very interested in what he had to say. Y/n wanted to know his reasoning for caring about her or at least so he says.

With her now in agreement Eric gave a curt nod and grabbed her hand. At first Y/n didn’t know where he was leading her but once he turned them down a specific hallway she knew where they were going.

“You gonna tell me now what you meant earlier?” Y/n asked while looking around the blonde Dauntless leaders apartment.

The two stood across from each other in the makeshift living room just staring at each other. Eventually Eric spoke shifting foot to foot. “I’m not good with words and you know that.”

“Then show me.” y/n suggested Y/n holding her arms out to her side.

Eric nodded at her suggestion, he even had the best idea on how to prove it. Eric strutted over to her in the short distance between them and grabbed her, pulling her into his body. Reaching up and cupping her cheeks bringing her into a rough but slow kiss. And Y/n kissed back. The two fell back onto the couch, conveniently Y/n fell onto Eric’s lap.

“I care about you. If it isn’t obvious now.” Eric said with a tilt of his lips up into a smirk. He was giving her a look that y/n had never seen on him before, it almost seemed like love.

“It is. I care about you too, just FYI.” Y/n smiled at him, resting her hand around his neck.

“I figured by the way you're holding tight to my shoulders and neck. And you kissed back.” he stated holding onto her waist and back tightly. Beyond happy to finally hold her the way he’s wanted to for years.

“Shut up” Y/n scoffed with a laugh leaning down once more to connect their lips.

“Now as much as I’d love to continue this, and you know I would.” Eric pulled away, giving her a very knowing look with a hint of lust. “Our deal still stands. You need to rest.”

“Seriously?” Y/n asked with raised brows in shock, confusion, and annocance.

“Yup.” Eric smiled triumphifully.

A Safe Feeling - Eric Coulter

“Mathews!” Eric called out with a smirk as he saw Y/n exit the hallway near the dining hall.

“You know I have a first name.” Y/n turned around crossing her arms over her chest. Eric knew she hated her mom’s views and being called by her old last name. She’s not Erudite anymore.

Eric gave a nod as he walked over to her, standing in front of her. “Yeah, but that’s for more intimate-”

“Shut up.” Y/n giggled and slapped him on the bicep as Eric chuckled, moving his hands to her hips.

“Where are you off to?” Eric asked as Y/n moved her arms to wrap around his neck. Normally Eric didn’t like showing PDA, unless it was to show she was taken.

“Need to talk to Four about some stuff.” She answered, tilting her head. It wasn’t easy to have Four as a best friend and date Eric. But the two agreed to be sival for her sake.

“Divergent stuff?” Eric spoke quietly, so no one would hear around him. When she had first told him about being Divergent, Eric didn’t take it well at first but then he realized he didn’t care. He loves her anyway.

“Will you keep it down. You know it could get me killed.” Even though he was quite Y/n still was scared at any possibility of anyone knowing. Being Divergent is a death sentence.

Eric nodded as a sigh of apology, moving his right hand up and down her back to comfort her growing nerves. “Is it about the nightmares?”

Y/n nodded with a grimace. “They have to do with my fears and with what I am, he's the best to talk to about it. And he’s my friend.”

Eric rolled his eyes and bit the inside of his cheek at his sight irritation. “Don’t remind me.”

“You're lucky I know what part of that you're referring to.” Y/n smirked, poking him in the chest.

“Oh, what part?” Eric played along, hoping to stall her a little longer.

“The Four part. He’s my best friend, has been since initiation and it bothers you like no other.” Y/n smirked a little, but in her defense she tried to hide it.

Eric shrugged. “I don’t like sharing.”

Y/n let out an amused soft laugh. “I’ve noticed.”

“You know I love you and I don’t care about the Divergent past, right?” He wanted to make sure she knew, he always made sure. Yeah he got annoyed that she’s friends with Four but her being Divergent? That doesn’t bother him.

y/n smiled. “I know. You always reassure me of that.”

Eric nodded. “And I’ll continue to.”

Y/n moved to leave his embrace, really needing to go see Four. “Love you.”

Eric pulled her into a rough kiss before letting go of her waist and back. “Love ya too.”

“I’ll see you later.” Y/n smiled at him turning around and heading off to figure her nightmare, fear problem out.

^      ^      ^

After about an hour Four and Y/n sat down, joined by Tris.

“The only thing I can think of is that your fears are changing.” Four stated leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

“But how can I have less fears then when we first came here? How can they change?” Y/n wondered out loud confused. Shouldn’t she have more over time not less?

“I don’t know, Y/n.” Four wished he could give her an explanation, but he had nothing.

“Maybe its Eric.” Tris said, jumping into the conversation.

“Huh?” Y/n turned to her younger friend with confusion and curiosity. Four looked to Tris with a furrowed expression.

“Well he’s protective of you. He’d kill for you, so what if the feeling of protection he gives you is making some of your fears go away.” Tris explained what she meant.

“She has a good point.” Four looked at Y/n.

“Well that’s a development.” Y/n let out an amused puff of air.

“Bad?” Tris tilted her head, looking at her friend trying to see how she was feeling about this new ‘development’ as she called it.

“No.” Y/n shook her head.

“He’s been worried. You should tell him.” Four stated. He may not get along with Eric but he could tell how worried he’s been over Y/n’s situation. Eric could hide it well but Four could still see it.

“Yeah.” Y/n spoke, grabbing her jacket before standing up and heading towards the door. “Yeah, I’m gonna do that. See ya both tomorrow.”

Once Y/n left Four and Tris she headed to the training room, knowing that Eric was training the intaties today. It wasn’t hard to find him once entering the big room. He stood out.

“Hey handsome.” Y/n said as she came up behind him, wrapping her arms around his torso.

“Hey sexy.” He smirked, and as he expected her reaction was to slap him on his arm. It caused him to chuckle.

“Stop it.” Y/n laughed at his behavior. Always so different with her then around anyone else. “Can we talk?”\

“Yeah,” Eric was trying not to be worried. He turned his focus back to the intimates. “Intaites! We’re done for the day. Get out.”

After that they both headed to their shared apartment. They’d been sharing a living space since a little after they finished initiation. Once inside Eric shut the door behind them for privacy.

“So did you and Four figure out what's going on?” he asked and Y/n could see some concern in his eyes.

y/n nodded and licked her lips. “Yeah, about that.”

“What?” He asked gruffly.

Y/n went over and sat on their couch, Eric followed suit. “My nightmares have been odd. Like you knew and we found a few things out.” Y/n took a deep breath before continuing, looking him in the eyes. “I have less fears now. That’s why I keep reliving some of them. My nightmares seem to be the fears I still have.”

“How's this happening? Is it a Divergent thing?” Eric didn’t know much about Divergent. No one really did know anything about Divergents since they were killed on spot after being found out.

“No it’s not a Divergent thing.” She laughed lightly. Y/n leaned in and pulled him into a kiss. When she pulled away she told him. “Its a you thing.”

“Me?” Eric raised his brows in disbelief.

“Yup. You.” Y/n nodded in confirmation of his question.

“Can you explain?” he asked, still very confused. How is he the cause?

“Trus has this theory and Four and I agree with it.” Y/n scooted closer, grabbing his hands in hers. Smiling shyly up at him. “We think I’m having less face because you make me feel safe.”

“That's the goal.” Eric smirked proudly. That was the goal, to protect her. Make her feel safe. And he was relieved that nothing serious was wrong with her. “So many fears have you lost exactly?”

Y/n laughed in amusement towards his reaction. “Cocky much?”

Eric pulled her by the hips to straddle his lap. “Hey, if I’m responsible…”

He two was amused, but this was because of different reasons.

“Thank you.” Y/n thanked her tattooed brute. With the look of confusion back in his eyes, she continued. “I know you didn’t do it on purpose. Not exactly. You couldn’t. But thanks anyway and for protecting me and making me feel safe in general.”

Eric placed a hand on the back of her head and stared directly in her eyes. “You're mine. No one will harm you on my watch.”

Y/n smiled brightly at his declaration. “Don’t tell my mom.”

Eric scoffed. “I don’t tell your mom shit.”

“That's one of the reasons I love you.” Y/n smirked, leaning her forehead against his.

Eric grabbed her, pulling her closer, holding her tighter in his grip as he kissed the column of her neck. “What are the other reasons?”

Y/n let out a moan as he continued to kiss and suck on her neck. “Well if we head over to the bedroom I could-”

“Done” Eric said, effictley cutting her off. He stood up and carried her to their bedroom. All the while Y/n laughed at his actions and looked forward to the night's activities.

Hello,

I was planning on writing a head cannon on what it would be like to be Jeanine Matthews assistant and at your choosing ceremony picking dauntless. However, I have a full plot line in my head that would be too long to be a head cannon. so would you that be something you all would be willing to read? (also I am thinking of giving the character a love interest at some point if I fully write the fic, so i would love to hear thoughts about that)

Some feedback would be lovely on this matter.

Knowledge pt.1

Knowledge Pt.1

check out the other parts here!

Summary:

The story begins the same for everyone, on the day of the ceremony, one of the most important for all the kids who take part in it every year, and Michelle will not miss the opportunity to leave behind a faction that she did not feel belonged to her.

On her journey, however, she will encounter someone who will make her initiation feel like hell.

Pairing: Eric Coulter x reader

Word count: 3.3k

"Wake up, or you'll be late," a woman with short bobbed hair entered Ellie's room, opening the blinds to let in the morning rays. She stood, hands on hips, wearing a displeased expression. "What were you up to last night? I heard you come back late, too late."

"I was with Anne," Ellie stretched, trying to awaken her still-sleepy muscles.

"Always up to something, you two," the woman continued to complain as she left Ellie's room, closing the door behind her and yelling for Ellie to get ready for the Test.

"Good morning to you too, Mom," Ellie thought as she rose to begin dressing, opting for a simple white suit with a black turtleneck to wear underneath.

She took a quick shower to fully wake up and paused to look at herself in the mirror. Her long brown hair framed her pale face, caused by the little time she actually spent outdoors during the day; she preferred the night.

She left her hair down that day, the sky covered with dense clouds and the wind blowing strongly as she stepped out of the house, tousling her hair.

As she exited the building, she was greeted by Anne, who approached her with a big smile, jumping onto her and wrapping her arms around Ellie's neck. "Hi, Ellie!"

"Hi, Anne. I see you're in a good mood," despite their conversation from the previous evening, Anne seemed like her usual self, tears replaced by a big smile.

"There's no point in moping, don't you think? And besides, we still have the whole day to spend together," she said, starting to walk, trying to catch up with the rest of the group of Candors.

Ellie adjusted her jacket, feeling chilly. "You're right, this might as well be the last one."

Anne tried not to let what her best friend had just said affect her; the smile was in danger of fading the more she thought about it. Their separation was inevitable, she knew that well, but it didn't hurt any less.

They quickened their pace and finally joined their companions, who were chatting animatedly among themselves, ignoring the two girls nearby and casting glances in their direction.

Neither of them let the comments they overheard about themselves sway them, walking with their heads held high until they reached the building where they would take part in the test.

"Everything will be alright," Ellie whispered into Anne's ear, seeing her agitated; she was nervously biting her cuticles.

"It's just that... Ellie, what if the test says I'm something I don't believe I am?"

Ellie looked at her with a touch of pity; anxiety consumed her from within every time they had an important event, and the Attitude Test was the most crucial day of their lives.

In contrast, she was calm; her hands tingled from the long wait that would lead to The Choosing Ceremony, her only chance for escape.

"You don't have to choose what the test tells you, you know that," she replied, joining the queue with her peers, observing the boys and girls from other factions doing the same.

Anne spoke to her, but if she were honest, she wasn't listening; she had become lost in watching the different groups of youths join their respective lines. It was a beautiful sight to see five distinct lines, neatly separated by five different colors.

Slowly but steadily, the line moved, letting hundreds of boys and girls from all factions into a massive hall with seats for each of them; a woman dressed in blue with a tightly pulled chignon stood in front of a blackboard, her gaze stern as she watched the youths enter.

Once everyone was seated and silence fell over the room, the woman began to speak, explaining the history of their city, the utility of the Attitude Test, and the importance of the Choosing Ceremony. These were crucial for maintaining order within their society.

But Ellie wasn't exactly paying attention; a notebook on her thigh and a small pen in hand, she doodled random lines on the paper; she didn't care to pay attention, she just wanted lunchtime to arrive so they could start with the tests.

That was her only thought for the next few hours, with the woman's voice in the background and Anne beside her continuing to nibble at her cuticles.

A bell signaled the end of the long lesson, prompting the students to split into various small groups for lunchtime. She and Anne took a table apart from the others, away from any other group to spend some uninterrupted time.

"Was the lesson that boring?" Anne asked her, nibbling on a piece of meat, having no appetite.

Ellie shrugged, continuing to eat. "A bit, it's stuff we already know," she said with her mouth full, looking at Anne. "These lessons are pointless."

Anne looked around the lively cafeteria, sighing before pushing away the plate in front of her. "If I eat anymore, I'll vomit."

They fell into silence until five volunteers, each from a different faction, entered the cafeteria to call two students at a time. The redhead began to fidget more, her hands trembling as she watched her peers leave the cafeteria to take the test.

Ellie took her hand, running her thumb over the back of it to try to comfort her. It pained her to see the person closest to her in such a state of anxiety, but alas, Ellie was the last person capable of consoling anyone.

"I can't do this," Anne said, holding her head in her free hand. Her palms were starting to sweat, and Ellie tried to ignore it so as not to make her feel worse; she was disgusted by having her sweaty hand on hers.

The ten students remained inside the rooms for just over five minutes each, some longer than others, and in no time, the second set of students was called.

The cafeteria was now engulfed in silence, each student engrossed in thoughts about their future. Would they leave everything behind just because the test gave them a different result from their original faction?

Almost ten minutes later, the volunteers emerged again.

"For the Candor, Anne Bishop and Ellie Black," the Candor called before returning to the corridor from which he had come, expecting the girls to follow him.

With great calm, they got up, leaving the cafeteria to finally make their way to the rooms where they would take the test. Anne didn't let go of Ellie's hand until they were standing in front of two separate doors.

"Good luck," Ellie whispered to Anne as they entered their respective rooms. The door closed immediately behind her, leaving her alone with a woman dressed entirely in black.

The room was completely covered in mirrors with a chair in the center, the woman was typing something on the computer without showing any sign of having seen Ellie, who stopped to observe her.

She was an Asian woman with long black hair and clothing typical of the Dauntless faction, perhaps the sleek black jacket was too big for her. Ellie noticed a tattoo on the back of her neck but couldn't make out what it was, her hairs was on the way.

The woman turned around, a fairly serene expression on her face. "Nervous?" she asked, smiling at her. "Don't worry, it doesn't hurt."

"No," Ellie replied, still standing.

The woman gestured for her to take a seat in the chair. "Make yourself comfortable, I'll be with you in a second," she said, returning to enter data into the computer.

Ellie observed the room, her image being reflected multiple times, creating a strange optical illusion.

"My name is Tori," the woman said, turning towards her with a reassuring smile and a curious gaze. "I've never seen a Candor so quiet before."

"There's a first time for everything," Ellie replied quickly, irritated by the phrase that had been repeated to her her whole life. She looked ahead, ignoring the glare Tori sent her way.

"Now I'll attach these. They'll allow me to see your choices," Tori said, attaching two suction cups to Ellie's temples. A slight shock passed through Ellie's body. "Drink."

She handed Ellie a small cup containing a slightly blue liquid, its consistency resembling that of water. Perhaps Tori sensed her insecurity and wanted to reassure her that it was harmless, but Ellie took a deep breath before bringing the cup to her lips and swallowing the liquid.

In a few seconds, she felt a strange sensation, like dizziness, before closing her eyes and reopening them; she immediately noticed how the room had changed, the Dauntless woman had disappeared, and the room had widened.

The simulation had begun.

She rose from the chair she had been sitting on to inspect the room and noticed how the door had also changed, but when she reached out to touch one of the mirrors, a voice interrupted her.

"Choose!"

Ellie spun around abruptly, but when she tried to figure out who had spoken, she was met only by her reflection. When she turned back again to touch the mirror, she found two different pedestals in front of her.

One displayed a slice of cheese, while on the other rested a dagger. Ellie immediately reached for the dagger; it would be useful in various situations and objectively much more useful than a simple piece of cheese.

In an instant, the pedestals disappeared, leaving the room empty again.

Ellie observed the dagger in her hands, the cold blade against her palm sending shivers down her spine. What would happen if she even lightly pressed the blade into her palm?

Her thoughts were interrupted by a fierce growl, and a large dog with froth around its mouth began to charge at her; she stood still, waiting for the dog to come close enough to defend herself and, if necessary, attack.

"Oh, a puppy!"

Another voice chimed in, but this time, when Ellie turned, a little girl dressed in white stood behind her. She observed her for a few seconds, completely forgetting about the dog that was about to attack her.

However, at her feet, a whimper caught her attention; a puppy.

She looked around; the fierce dog from before had disappeared, replaced by an adorable puppy. She bent down to pet it, noticing out of the corner of her eye how the little girl was slowly approaching.

She shifted her gaze from the puppy for a second, just in time to see the little girl's happy face contort into an expression of fear. The growl returned, and when she looked back at the dog, she saw how the sweet puppy had turned back into the fierce dog from moments before.

The latter lunged at the little girl, but Ellie stopped it in time by throwing herself onto it and plunging the dagger into the animal's body. She closed her eyes; she didn't like the idea of hurting an animal regardless of its actions.

But she didn't feel the dagger hit anything, and when she opened her eyes, she noticed she wasn't in the room full of mirrors anymore, but rather on a bus, an old man reading the newspaper next to her.

Ellie immediately noticed the image of a man on the front page, with a caption calling him a brutal murderer.

The man reading the newspaper lowered it, eyeing the girl and narrowing his eyes. "Do you know him?" he asked, pointing to the man's face on the front page, his voice trembling.

Ellie had never seen him before, yet there was something familiar about him, like an invisible thread connecting them. She wanted to answer him, to tell him that maybe she had seen him somewhere before, but she stopped herself before a single word escaped her mouth.

She couldn't.

She decided to ignore the man, looking straight ahead and ignoring his pleas.

The man's pleas turned into distant lament, and Ellie closed her eyes, reopening them immediately after. She was back in the initial room, Tori next to her, observing the computer screen.

"The Test gone well" Tori removed the suction cups she had previously placed on Ellie's temples, returning to the computer to input more data. "You've been identified as Dauntless. I hope to see you in a few days."

She turned towards Ellie, smiling and gesturing that she could leave the room.

Ellie didn't linger on the chair any longer than necessary, leaving as soon as she was given the green light. She stood still in the hallway for a few seconds, hoping to encounter Anne, but a volunteer urged her to leave to make room for the next group.

She was ushered out through the back door where various youths from different factions were talking among themselves, some happier than others. She tried to scan the crowd for her best friend but without success; it was as if she had vanished into thin air.

She attempted to wait for her for several minutes, even an hour, but eventually, bored and likely assuming Anne had left without her, she headed home.

During her journey, the sky clouded over and a few drops began to fall, but she didn't seek shelter, too lost in her thoughts.

Dauntless? Could she really be one of them?

Her heart began to beat fast in her chest; she knew she would be leaving her faction, but the idea that the day had finally arrived filled her with a strange anxiety.

The unknown worried her; she was aware of the challenges of initiation among the Dauntless and wondered if she would be able to pass it.

She hurried home as the rain began to intensify, the sky growing darker, and she needed to see Anne, to know how she was and especially what her result had been.

The rules were clear; it was forbidden to reveal the result of the Attitude Test, but the two friends had sworn to tell each other at least.

When she arrived home, she was relieved to notice that her mother was still at work, so she took the opportunity to leave the house again and take the elevator to Anne's floor. In less than five minutes, she stood in front of Anne's apartment door and knocked, patiently waiting for a response.

The door opened shortly after, but it wasn't Anne who greeted her; instead, it was her mother. Her expression changed, a genuine smile appeared on her face. "Oh, hi Ellie! How are you, dear? Come in!"

The woman made space for her to enter. "Good morning, Mrs. Bishop. I'm fine, thank you. And you?"

"I'm good, dear. How did the test go?" Mrs. Bishop gave her a warm hug, a small part of her old faction never left her.

"Good, I'm happy with the result. Have you seen Anne?"

The woman's expression darkened, the smile fading. "Uh, she's in her room. I don't think she's happy with the result. She came home early because she wasn't feeling well during the test," she whispered the last part to avoid being heard by her daughter, who had returned home in tears.

Ellie thanked her before heading towards Anne's room. Some of their photos were hung on the door; she stood still, observing them for a while, reliving the countless memories that would be lost in less than twenty-four hours.

Ellie knocked, and shortly after she opened the door, closing it behind her.

Anne was shattered, her face covered in tears as she hugged the pillow and didn't even look at Ellie when she entered. Unsure of what to do, her friend glanced around, feeling slightly uncomfortable seeing her best friend in tears and being unable to help her.

Trying to regain some composure, Anne sat on the bed and wiped away her tears. She made space on the bed for Ellie, who gladly sat down, putting an arm around her shoulders.

And that's when Anne burst into endless tears, burying her face in Ellie's shoulder. Ellie began to stroke her back to provide some comfort.

It's unknown how long they stayed there, with Anne crying and Ellie thinking about the Choosing Ceremony that would take place the next morning. She glanced down to see her friend lying down, using her legs as a pillow.

When Anne managed to calm down, she got up to go to the bathroom, and shortly after, she returned with a still-red face and clothes wrinkled from the position she had been in.

"I guess it didn't go very well, I imagine," Ellie whispered, trying to be as tactful as possible, and she sighed with relief when she saw that Anne sniffed without falling into tears again.

"Amity, my result," Anne said, looking at the floor and continuing to nibble on her cuticles.

Ellie nodded. "Dauntless."

Anne gave her a small smile. "It wasn't hard to figure out."

"I could say the same about you," but Ellie's words seemed to hurt Anne somehow, causing her eyes to well up again

"Anne, are you okay?"

Ellie approached her again, but her friend recoiled when she tried to touch her arm. "Yes, I just felt sick during the test. That's all."

"Are you sure, I—"

"Can you just go, please?" Anne's tone was sharp, catching Ellie off guard. She had never received such treatment from her best friend before. Sensing her mistake, Anne closed her eyes. "I need to think..."

Ellie left without giving her a chance to finish her sentence, irritated by her behavior. She always tried to do her best for her, to comfort her even if she wasn't capable of it, and the fact that she was being dismissed like that when she was just trying to help bothered her a lot.

She returned home to seclude herself in her room, hoping her mother would leave her alone until dinnertime, but luck was not on her side that day. In fact, when she closed the door behind her, she saw her mother sitting at the table in the living room.

Her gaze lifted as she saw her only daughter entering the house in a hurry, a un-happy expression on her face as she tried to avoid eye contact with her.

"How did the attitude test go? Are you pleased with the result?" Despite her feigned interest in her daughter's affairs, she couldn't deny she was curious about which faction her daughter belonged to.

"Well, goodbye," Ellie replied, slamming her bedroom door shut, bidding her mother farewell for the last time. The next day, she would have to go to work early; many of her colleagues would be absent due to the Choosing Ceremony to accompany their children.

And Ellie would wait until late at night to have dinner, wanting to avoid as much contact with her mother as possible, knowing she would try to get her to reveal which faction she had chosen.

She would find out the next day, from the whispers in the corridors after the Ceremony, but she didn't want to give her mother the satisfaction of knowing before everyone else, especially seeing that content little smile knowing she would be rid of her.

She hated to admit it, only Anne knew what she felt towards her mother; she hated her, hated her with all her being, but despite that, she harbored a love for her that she couldn't even put into words.

She always tried to appear worthy in her mother's eyes, even unintentionally, but it was as if everything she did was wrong and branded her as the family's shame, the black sheep tarnishing her father's name.

And that's how Ellie fell asleep, still fully dressed and with tears in her eyes, thinking about her best friend, about what she would leave behind by choosing the Dauntless the next day.

Perhaps it was her time, her opportunity, and she wouldn't let anyone ruin that day for her.

Not even someone she considered a sister.

“I really don’t think this is a good idea”, you say to Eric.

Coming to an amusement park wasn’t your idea. If it were up to you, you would be curled up on a couch next to Eric, watching some cheesy horror movie. But no, you are sitting next to Eric, strapped into a seat on a highly dangerous roller coaster.

Eric chuckles and gently squeezes your hand, that has been tightly holding his since you sat down, “ You’ll be fine Y/N. If this wasn’t safe, they wouldn’t let people on.” Oh, how wrong he was.

Sure you didn’t fly out of your seat, but the moment the ride reached its highest point and dropped, you were out like a light. Eric, who was to busy enjoying himself, didn’t notice you had passed out until he felt your hand let go of his.

By the time you snapped out of it, the ride was over and was pulling up to the exit. The sound of Eric’s booming laughter echoing in your ears.

Without turning around, shoulders hunched over, you sigh, “ Well, are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me?” It’s silent until you finally hear the sound of his footsteps coming towards you. You were staring at the wall lined with some reflective metal across from you when he comes into your line of vision, taking hold of the bandages you had thrown to the floor after you finally realized you wouldn’t be able to change them without help. Both of you are silent as you lay yourself down on the cot, knowing that it would be better to put the bandages on that way.

It’s silent between you two, both of you not knowing what to say. He avoided eye contact once he finished changing your bandages, turning to throw the old wraps in the bin. Slowly, you sit up and carefully put on the loose tank top the medic had recommended you wear. Getting off the cot, you open your mouth to say something when you’re interrupted.

“What were you thinking?” Eric says, his back still turned towards you. You’re taken a back by how harsh his words sound.

Frowning, you ask, “Excuse me?”

Eric pounds his fist onto the table, startling you as he swiftly turns towards you, his jaw clenched so hard you were afraid he might break it. “Did you really think no one would find out?! That you could keep training with an injury as bad as that and no one would notice?! How ignorant are you?! You could have died of infection if that other initiate hadn’t of taken you down and your makeshift stitches hadn’t of ripped open!!”

You could feel your body slightly shake as Eric yelled at you, you weren’t sure if it was out of fear or anger. Eric wasn’t one of the nicest leaders in Dauntless by far, you expected him to tell you that you’re out of Dauntless and are now factionless but what you didn’t expect is for him to yell at you about what you did.

Tired of his yelling and disapproving looks, you interrupt him, “What did you expect me to do?!?! Would you have preferred me to tell the others that I was injured and couldn’t train anymore?? So that they can judge me and tell me that I should have never left Amity, so that they think I’m weak!! I joined Dauntless because I didn’t want to be seen as weak anymore, I wanted to be better and if it took me hiding an injury to stay in training, to stay and hopefully join Dauntless then I would do it all over again.”

You were out of breath by the time you finished yelling back at Eric. The shaking in your body stopped and all you could do is glare at Eric as he glared back at you. “Besides, why do you care what happens to me. After all I’m just a weak Amity who has no place being in Dauntless, right?! That’s what you told the other leaders when I first got here. It’s people like you that made me not want to say anything about me being injured, it would just give you more of a reason to kick me out.”

Tired of yelling, you make to leave the med room, deciding that being anywhere but there would be the best. Reaching towards the doorknob, a hand on your wrist stops you. Looking up, Eric is standing close to you, almost too close that if you were to take a very deep breath your chests would touch.

Meeting Eric’s eyes, you’re surprised to see remorse and something else you couldn’t make out. He takes a deep breath and your chests brush slightly, “I never said that, I have no idea where you heard that but it never happened.” You look at him, your eyebrows raised as you don’t believe him. “And as much as I tried not too, I do care. I care a lot for you, something I never thought I would feel for someone else, especially for someone who seems to hate me. It’s because I care for you that you’re not out of Dauntless and you still have a second chance.”

Your eyes soften as you register what Eric had just said to you. Shock envelops your body, but not enough that you can still feel his hand let go of your wrist and take hold of your hand. Raising your head, you look into his eyes and you finally understand what that something else in his eyes was. He smiles slightly down at you and you feel yourself return the smile back.
