Creepypasta Revival Project

Calling all creepypasta fans! Old and new, our fandom and community is dying! But there's still so much we can do to rebuild it. Although all good things can come to an end, there's always a chance to give it a second chance in life. So I'm proposing that those whom are interested message me and we could start what I'm calling Creepypasta: The New Generation. Anyone and everyone can participate, no matter what your skill set is any type of help is appreciated! Even if it's merely getting involved in conversations and giving support. Whether your someone who loves the found family trope of creepypasta, whether you love the gore and violence of it, whether you make the creepypasta characters into uwu smol beans, if you do creepypasta roleplay no matter where you stand your useful towards knocking this plan into action! Because even though this community can have very split opinions everyone is a vital part in it. The main idea is to work together to make new creepypasta characters and assist each other when help is needed, making fanart for each other and posting it online to try and gain traction to these characters! And the biggest thing from this project I wanna work on, is after we have at least five characters created, we can begin work on discussing how to write a story that connects the characters. A plot, story name, story goal, and everything in between will need to be agreed upon. All the writers who wanna write will work together to get pages done! Artists who wanna draw for the story will also work together. There is no person limit to this project if people join we can figure out a way to wiggle their character into the story. Spread the word wherever you can.

Be sure to message me if interested! :3

Want to fanbind? Need davy boards/book boards and low on funds? I have an excellent hack for you:

Repurpose shitty books

"But!!!" You may say, "no book is shitty! All human experiences are worth putting to paper!"

You're right! But, also, Counterpoint:

Want To Fanbind? Need Davy Boards/book Boards And Low On Funds? I Have An Excellent Hack For You:

I went to my local thrift shop and got these for the low price of $5 for all 10. ("Getting into politics?" The lovely ladies behind the counter asked me. "In a manner of speaking," I replied.)

Once I got home, it was easy to turn them into this, their component parts:

Want To Fanbind? Need Davy Boards/book Boards And Low On Funds? I Have An Excellent Hack For You:

("Please stop saying you're skinning them," my partner begged. Too late!)

[EDIT TO ADD: Here's a guide! Also on my tumblr. Also - when thrifting, bring a piece of paper folded or cut into the minimum size you need for boards: this way you can make sure you're getting big enough material!]

While these are just book boards, diligent deconstruction can even yield headbands, I'm pretty sure - I'll report back on my next trial run. [EDIT TO ADD: yup, you can!]

I cannot overstate the delight I have in giving these covers new life for binding fanfiction, particularly the queer kind.

Happy binding!

The whole world through queer-coloured glasses

Sometimes reading new scholarship coincides perfectly with the discussion I read here, on the blog. You have read discussion about fan perspectives on queer representation and on the fanfic lens and another take on the latter (or in other words, how to be gay).

Frederik Dhaenens writes research about gay representation on television. Their work dicusses both queer stories and queer readings which is what brought these previous posts to my mind. In queer readings, the audience was examined.

(The) regular television viewers seemed to be aware of the strategies of queer deconstruction. DHAENENS, FREDERIK. “READING GAYS ON THE SMALL SCREEN.” JAVNOST – THE PUBLIC 19, NO. 4 (2012): 57–72. HTTPS://DOI.ORG/10.1080/13183222.2012.11009096.

However, these texts only briefly touched on queer readings that were of not explicitly queer stories.

Another example (of the distinction between the focus group with the heterosexual and the homosexual participants) is the way many gay participants stressed the necessity of identification with gay characters or at least the fun of assuming a character being gay. DHAENENS, FREDERIK. “READING GAYS ON THE SMALL SCREEN.” JAVNOST – THE PUBLIC 19, NO. 4 (2012): 57–72. HTTPS://DOI.ORG/10.1080/13183222.2012.11009096.

Audiences are adept at reading into the text but there are also more and more queer stories. However, an analysis of queer reading practices could look at these interpretations less as separate ones as they can co-exist. After all, many of us might have experienced reading everyone else around the canonically queer couple as also queer, haven’t we?

i have rule i semi-adhere to for media criticism which is to ideologically meet shit where it's at (or where it's presented to me). i like to call it the "i didn't make you market it that way" rule--like, if lancer's union was just presented as a sci-fi setting, that would be fine. i don't expect all sci-fi settings to be communist utopias! but when the creators of lancer use the word utopia like 20 times & bandy around words like 'mutual aid' and 'post-scarcity' and 'anticapitalist' when describing it, then to me that becomes absolutely fair game. similarly if someone says 'stardew valley is fun i like farming :)' then i'm not gonna reply with a long post about how it's ideologically petty-bourgeois--but if they say 'stardew valley is anticapitalist', then they've opened up that can of worms and it's fair for me to point out that the worms exist.

a few reminders because i’m tired and angry

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes

the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually

liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space

preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good

no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl

liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that

just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny

some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have

no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems

abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships

y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

feel free to add more
