“So, um, help me out here,” he says, leaning forward with his arms folded on the table. “You wanna bring a boyfriend to your parents’ anniversary party, because they told you you’re not allowed to bring a girlfriend.”
“Yes.”
“Okay, and… you realise that would mean your entire family is going to think you’re − gay? Bi?”
Evan shrugs. “Yeah. I don’t care what they think I am. I’m never gonna be what they want me to be anyway, so, fuck it, you know?” He grabs his glass, raising it in a toast, then seems to remember it’s empty, and sighs in defeat.
Tommy grabs his hand as Evan’s getting to his feet again. “My turn.”
Evan looks down where Tommy’s long fingers are wrapped tightly around his wrist, eyes a little wide and his mouth slightly open when he meets Tommy’s gaze. “Yeah, okay,” he stammers, and quickly sits down again.
He’s going straight to hell, Tommy thinks to himself, if not for the multiple men he’s fucked over the years, then certainly for what he does next. “Good boy,” he says, throwing in a wink, and tries to hide his smirk at the way Evan’s pupils blow wide open, the way his Adam’s apple bobs up and down as he swallows nervously.
