Concetp A/B/O existed for so long I can't think about it: like Zeus cough cough), Danny is ok with this. If he could have a baby with another man (Super SEAL neandertal), he's so OK. I know that we all know that Danny (and Steve too) is a very good person with heart made of gold. That he can be all that "yadda yadda yadda me don't like it" but deep inside he likes it ;) he's a very open, very sensitive, loving and very understanding person. I know that there are his I love yous. I know that there is his You do good = You are good. I know that we have Danny being completely ok with being so close with a man, that one and only man, Steve. Hugs, other touching, intensive eye contact and so on. And we have other hints to know that he would be ok with being (officially) Steve's boyfriend although they both aren't into men. And yeah, yeah, we have that awesome scene with his "I personally would've gone with the, um... the gay thing to keep our cover" ❤️ Yeah, I know. But this:

Yes, you can say that it's just about them watching it and having different opinion. But let me share something:

Whaf if Steve just pretends? What if he just makes that face and pretends that the scene is really disgusting for him just to... provoke Danny? To test the waters? It's season 2, it's still the beginning of their friendship and there are still many things to discover. Sometimes he can't just ask about X, Y, Z so he uses the situation, the opportunity. He dances around.

So. "I've just said: That's disgusting! What will Danno say?".

"Danno, come on. Say something! I need to know what you think. Is that disgusting to you?". "Oh, are you crying now?". "I need to know everything so I'll provoke you with my rant".

For Danno that pregnant alien dude is a picture of love. Danno sees friendship there. And thinks that this scene is beautiful and touching. Danno isn't any -phobe. So... It's possible that being in love with an alien would be ok for him too. And other things different than their "traditional" hetero life would be ok too then. "Sex with a man", Steve thinks, "being in love with a man. Alien man. Human man. Or such human alien like me. Okay".

Danny is talking and talking but Steve is now processing thoughts. "Soo... No problem for Danno. Okaaay. So he could be, uh, hetero man in love with another hetero man. Because there would be a love. And friendship. And it would be beautiful. And it's not about falling in love with a sex (gender) but... with a person, that person's soul, huh? So... if alien is ok, then neanderthal Super Seal..."

Danny is now trying to explain his feelings, poor Danny thinks that Steve just wants to know why Danny likes that movie and that Steve needs something like 1000 reasons why Enemy mine is a great movie 🤭 [oh, Steve likes that movie! 😈 as he said at the beginning, when he came to Danny's room: "Enemy mine? Mm-hmm. That's awesome. I feel like I'm in a time machine"].

Poor Danny. Steve just wanted some answer. And he's just got it. So, Danny, you can stop now xD "You know what? Forget it" - Steve says. "I know what I needed to know", Steve thinks.

I mean... That scene is very special imo. I just... I see one big "Danny would be ok with being supersealromantic/sexual" there. I see "Sometimes people in Hawaii may think that Danny is Mr Nope, Mr Conservative, Mr Give me sexy Girlssss Please but... it's not like that". I see there something similar to that scene from season 5 (with that gay cover and being ok with that and smiling when Ruth says "gay marriage") - similar but more hidden. I see there Danny showing that he is really sensitive and that all he needs in the world and all what matters to him is love and friendship. And yeah, I see there:

Steve: Me as your husband... Problem?

Danny: No problem!

Do you think Danny is like magic glu? Or he has absolutely is the sanest in his family and, when he's obligated to go at Hawaï, to be with Grace, he knows his family will go wild and crazy because:

his father is busy to be an ancient firefighter, who lives for his past glorious years,

his mother doesn't have any more children in her skirt to keep her busy,

sisters have child and busy life and not time for their parents (Retirement is a tough time for some couples)

and Matt is… Matt, single and had habit to be a nuisance and troublemaker since he was born.

So, Danny is the only really "adult" to help all of them in good way, which explains his anger issues because it's most pressure for one person. And he knows in not with them to hold the fort.

Like Eric loves his uncle. You know, he accept to come in Hawaï because his uncle Danny take care about him. He knows he'll be secure and loved.

He says "Uncle" like Grace says "Uncle" to Steve but it's in fact "daddy 2". I guess.

There is no place for a woman in Steve's life, he already has his Danno. The only one who could understand Danno's place as THE first in Steve's life, it could have been, possibly, maybe, with a big "what if", Catherine. And again, I'm not sure and I'm not for Steve/Cath, sorry, I'm not.

The big goof on date… we know all the dates got out in Hell when Danny is in. (Catherine + halloween, Double date for the guys… OMG)

Look at Danny eyes, how Steve's hug calms him, how his mind stops temporally to be anxious, sad or hurt.

Look at Danny's eyes!!! And how all his face says "Steve is here, I'm safe, I'm not alone, Nothing will hurt more because Steve keeps me busy/safe/calm".

How Danny become in few times so calm, so peaceful even though Steve is completely destroyed at the thought of having almost lost his Danno. He is not only relieved. He is here, in Steve's arms, he is alive, he is safe, he is sure because his SEAL hugs him.

OMG! How I don't see before how with his corporal language, Scott Caan create real feelings of love, juste with his face and eyelids that close and flutter. He's not just a fricking bromance (Damn you PL!), it's love feelings. OMG! I'll take that and write it like it's biblic fact, like its THE TRUE! BECAUSE IT'S CANON!!! Danny closes eyes and flutter his eyelids when he's in Steve's arms.

And I can help but think about the similarities of Steve going running up a mountain with Lori and Steve and Danny's mountain date in s1.

I think the worst thing they did in the show for Lori's character was try and force some kind of romantic tension between her and Steve. She had so much potential, and the tension always feels forced because when she and Steve are interacting naturally they act more like brother and sister than anything else. And also because the more they try to push romance the more they make her a 2d instead of 3d character.

(And look my plan was not to go on a rant about how male showrunners can't seem to cast a female in a romantic role without destroying their character)

Anyway, my original Pont was that I find it interesting that in trying to get us to view them in a romantic light they decide to put her and Ste e in situations similar to what Steve and Danny have been in.

However, I also have to point out - even in this, Danny wins.

Cos I'm sorry, but taking your partner to view a nostalgic place from your childhood and talk about your memories of your dead father and open up is much more solid and romantic then hey, let's go exercise together. Just saying.

More H50 2x15 mcdanno comments...

* the way Grace asks where her mum or uncle Steve are - she knows if Danny was injured one of them would come for her, which says a lot about Steve's place in her life

* the way when Danny says that Grace is at a tennis lesson, Steve tells Chin which tennis place she's at - he knows which club she has her lessons at, but Chin is not expected to know this

* the way Steve is so visibly stressed when they realise Grace has been taken and he can't get a hold of Danny and he needs to make a decision about what they should do cos he's the boss, but he's visibly trying to pull himself together and focus and even when he manages to focus he's so emotional in a way he never is with cases. Like, he always cares, but this time he's rattled.

* the way Steve just yells Danny's name (multiple times) when they get to the park. He sends Kono and Chin to deal with the bad guy, and his focus is just on Danny.

* it's Steve there with Danny when they rescue Grace, right beside him, untying her, etc.

I can't comment on this ep without also commenting on how much I appreciate Stan in this episode.

When Danny says he needs to meet him, Stan's first thought is Grace.

When Danny says he needs to shoot him or some guy is going to kill Grace - Stan accepts it. He basically agrees to it. Because it's for Grace.

And I know in s1 he's set up as the 'bad guy' from Danny's POV because he gets time with Rachel and Grace, but I so wanted them to follow through on this moment here - where Danny and Stan are united in their desire to protect Grace and willing to do anything for her.

It would have made such a great starting point for them to start understanding each other, etc. They may never like each other but they both put Grace first.

And think that's also very telling about Stan. That he's okay with getting shot if it's for Grace. He loves her. He cares for her as a father. He's not just putting up with her so he can have Rachel - and I think that's very important to acknowledge.

(But the show was far too focused on making Danny and Stan rivals for Rachel's attention because don't we all know that Danny's straight? Here's proof. No, I'm not bitter about the comphet at all)

At first, I thought it would be really exciting to be on a date with another man. And don't get me wrong - it was nice to have somebody look at me that way again, you know?

(sighs) But it was strange and kind of weird.

Yeah. Yeah, well, I know why. Because it wasn't... it wasn't with Pop, you know?

Okay. Danny and his mum at the end of 4x16. They are talking about Danny's dad, of course. And about Clara's date with another man, sure. But why the hell I've got impression that Danny, while hearing all that "dating others is strange, weird and ok, maybe nice but... I don't want this, I want... only that one man, your dad", is thinking about... YEAH Steve? "I KNOW WHY". "It wasn't with Pop, you know" - oh gosh, you know, Danny, because... all your dates, all those girls (Rachel, Gabby, Melissa) are just like that, right? It's strange and weird and deep down you don't want this, you don't need this. Because it isn't with Steve.

Gosh, he looks so sad at this moment - too sad for "it's just an empathy for my Ma". He knows. He shares the same pain.

the scene in 5x10 where danny is very emphatically against steve being set up is often highlighted out of context but i think it's also interesting in context because it could be seen as rare example of steve fishing/scheming for danny's reaction with romantic intention, and reaction does he get

'let you'? does he own him? does he have some claim over steve? 😏 judging by steve's lack of protest to the wording he definitely doesn't mind.

steve may seem nonchalant as he appears to calmly listen to danny pull a very thin justification out of his ass for why he totally has a legitimate reason to caution his *friend* so strongly but the thing is ... he already said 'no' to ellie setting him up, multiple times, why would he even tell danny about it if it was a non-starter in the first place, the urgency in danny's response indicating steve made him believe he was,perhaps, considering it?

unless ...he wanted to provoke some kind of reaction out of danny (and, as a bonus, put him in a good mood by making it appear as if steve listened to his advice ;))

judging by the honest-to-god pep in his step and the smug look that danny cannot see, he got waaay more than he bargained for. if danny winds up to be so adamantly against him being set up with someone else, then maybe he has a chance, after all? maybe he has feelings for him too?

(if you happen to headcanon them having a secret relationship in s5, it could also work as steve fishing for some kind of indication out of danny that he doesn't want him to see other people because he can't bring himself to ask out right, because they would rather play 5 dimensional chess than talk about how they feel, but that's a hypothetical of course, everything else isn't out of the realm of possibility)
