Hackers, 1995, directed by Iain Softley (Ashlyn)
Today at Westside Video, we are watching one of the most hilarious and awesome movies of all time: Hackers.
If you haven't seen Hackers before, it's awesomeness is comparable to that of The Fifth Element and Real Genius. The film opens on a SWAT takedown of a tiny boy, Dade Murphy, or "Zero Cool," who has committed various felonious acts by hacking into computer systems and planting a virus he designed. His parents are fined a ridiculous amount of money and he is banned from using a computer or anything close to one until his 18th birthday.
Flash forward to high school. Dade meets the smokin' hot Angelina Jolie in one of her very first films, as well as young versions of future stars Jesse Bradford, Matthew Lillard and Renoly Santiago. They discover a secret plot to plant a supervirus by a super douche in the business, and must use all their skills together while avoiding the Secret Service, who has noticed that the craziest hacker of all time is back on the web, and trying not to dry hump Jolie every time she says something sarcastic.
The best part of this film is the special effects of "the internet." Whoever made this film obviously thought that all business and personal networks were connected somehow on the web, and that you could access them and, at the same time, unlock a tiny screen world of rolling colorful characters similar to the cover of a little indie flick called The Matrix (don't worry, you probably haven't heard of it). The prank sessions and the secret hacker show are close runner ups on the scale of awesome. This movie is also rife with references to nerdy pop culture, including Transformers, Allan Ginsberg, and the Bible.
Hackers is rated PG-13, but it's for language and Angelina Jolie, so I would say somewhat mature tweens would be totally fine watching. As for everyone else: if you haven't seen it, for the love of awesomeness please go rent it; if you've seen it before, go rent it again and show it to your loved ones. Hey guys, just putting out a PSA because now that's THREE people I know of who've got these identical messages on Discord last night alone.
If a friend messages you apologising because someone "with a similar username to you" tried to deceive them so they reported your account as hacked, and sends an image of a discord email, your friend is the one who has been hacked.
It's hard to read in the screenshot (sorry!) but it looks like the "advice" is something like "file a friend request with our CORPORATE HEAD OF SECURITY to open your case. You have 12 hours to do so or we might suspend your account."
I've been told that if you do contact that user, they try to get you to "prove" you own the account by making a "100% refundable transaction" to them. Which is so scummy.
Scammers catch people out by imposing a time limit and dramatic consequences of not acting fast enough. In that moment of panic, you might not figure out it's suspicious, especially when the email looks so real (it will have your screen-name in it to make it seem legit, but the request code will likely be identical to the one in this post, #40557035) and you're worried about both an impersonator AND losing your account.
If you get sent the above message, try to let your friend know through other ways (socials, etc) that they've been hacked. If you are ever worried, your best bet is to check Discord's website and ask for help through their support page, which has a section for hacked accounts.

A friend of mine has been hacked due to opening a link sent in by someone who had my username. I don't know which game they were talking about because they didn't tell me, but the only games I have with the same user are MOBA games.
I have tried my best to prove my innocence that I've done nothing wrong but I think I'm at risk of getting my discord banned. I have never been in a situation like this before.
I think my account is under investigation because I can't log in and I really don't know what else can I do.

There’s still been users still getting their accounts hacked and used by the Ray Bans bot. It is still a threat.

My Tumblr has been accessed by a ghost.
So I was scrolling through tumblr like regular people do y'know, and as I was scrolling, I went to go check my blog. But here's the thing, the name had been changed; instead of "wreedenthusiast" like it normally is, it was "cruel enthusiast".
Now I don't know if some kind of hacker is getting into my account or whatnot, perhaps messing with me, but I do find this experience to be incredibly spooky.
Shit's weird man, if this is a ghost, why me tho? What'd I do? I ain't got no idea.
Anyway, I think that's all. I'll update this if I ever have another spooky encounter like this again with the ghost/hacker in my Tumblr account.
