Today is Holi also know as the Festival of Colour.
Holi is a festival celebrated in north India. It marks the coming of Spring, usually in March.Some families hold religious ceremonies, but for many Holi is more a time for fun.
Bonfires are lit and roasting grains, pop corn, coconut and chick peas are thrown on by Hindu families
The next day, people of all ages go into the streets for fun and paint-throwing. Everyone gets involved throwing powder paint in the air and coloured water.

HOLI, THE FESTIVAL OF COLORS (early to mid March)
The festival of Holi is a spring bonfire festival, known for the throwing of brightly colored powders, celebrated mainly by Hindus in Nepal and India. Holi ushers in the spring, a season of love and fertility, and it often lasts two days or even more. Rules and customs regarding caste, age, and gender are relaxed during these times, and people of all kinds celebrate together. In the Indian town of Barsana, men sing provocative songs for the attention of women, but the women chase them away with sticks. In western India, boys compete to break a hard-to-reach pot of buttermilk, and men spread out through the town warning that Krishna is out trying to steal butter. At sunset, as the full moon rises, the bonfires are lit and the people sing and dance.
The myth behind the festival is that of a demon king named Hiranyakashipu who had become so powerful that he demanded that humans stop worshipping the gods and worship him instead. His own son, Prahlada, was a devotee of Vishnu, however, and refused his father’s demands, after which the demon king tried many times to kill his son, but failed every time. Finally he ordered his son to climb into the lap of his sister, the terrible demon witch Holika, who was sitting on a pyre but was immune to fire, and when Prahlada had done so the pyre was lit — but Prahlada was unharmed, while the demon witch burned into ashes.
