Hwtv Horror - Tumblr Posts
Fuck it.
This will be how I bust open my corner of tumblr, I guess.
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order except for today, since this movie will forever hold the top spot.
Day One - The Thing (1982)

And since I'm fucking late we're just gonna tack on the second day here, too. This movie has one of my absolute most loved creature designs ever.
Day Two - Southbound (2015)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Dropping one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen.
Day Three - Rigor Mortis (2013)

I'm so serious when I say this is one of my favorite movies, aesthetically and conceptually pleasing.

We're gonna ignore that I'm a day late cause pneumonia is severely kicking my ass...
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. I need more people to sit with this movie... The commentary throughout it deserves to be sat with.
Day Four - Savageland (2015)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. For me, this one was worth the hype between the aesthetics, cinematography, and story ✨️
Day Five - Longlegs (2024)

Especially true with horror and all its adjacent genres and subgenres
no one warns you of this but the more indie & international films you watch the worse american blockbusters look in comparison. be safe out there
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. I've been ever so slightly obsessed with this one since it came out. Watch it several times a year and genuinely don't think I'll ever tire of it ✨️
Day Six - Terrified/Aterrados (2017)

Going through the entire V/H/S franchise since a friend found a tier list to rank each and every segment, and I wanna play.
So I fucking died last night cause long covid + pneumonia kicking my ass...
At least I finally slept?
Anyways...
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Takashi Miike's work has a firm spot among some of my favorite movies, and this is one i imported years ago to be able to have a hard copy of. I fully get why it'll likely never get an official distribution here. That said.. I enjoy controversial, dark, and disturbing stories, and this certainly fits the bill. Plus, Miike's splatter is always fun, imho ✨️
Day Seven - Lesson of the Evil (2012)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Presented with no commentary other than I love Moder, and she's my wife 🥺
Day Eight - The Ritual (2017)

I wanna say something...
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Short film for tonight. Odd, surreal, and weird - positively perfect to me ✨️
Day Nine - Possibly in Michigan (1983)

I did the thing.

Overall, I do actually enjoy the franchise, even if there's not a whole lot of segments that really pop out as amazing to me. It's still a fun series.

Day Ten - Resolution (2012)

Day Eleven - The Endless (2017)

Cosmic horror holds this lovely little warm corner in my heart, and these reside there with other books and movies and whatnot. Honorable mention to the rest of these directors' works below the cut, too, since they're all worth seeing at least once, imho.
Spring (2014)

Synchronic (2019)

Something in the Dirt (2022)
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Queer cannibal western horror. What's not to love?
Day Twelve - Ravenous (1999)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. A favorite creature feature for tonight, because why not? This is another movie that I wish got more love.
Day Thirteen - Splinter (2008)

Just because I love this movie and I need more people to sit with folk horror, it's such a rich sub-genre.
October 14th: Folk Horror | The Ritual

The Ritual was released in 2017 and was directed by David Bruckner. Friends Luke (Rafe Spall), Dom (Sam Troughton), Hutch (Robert James-Collier), and Phil (Arsher Ali) reunite six months after the death of their mutual friend to go on a memorial hike in Sweden. During the hike Dom sprains his ankle, and the group decide to cut through the woods in order to make it back to the lodge in less time. But when they get lost, things take a dark turn as a menacing presence begins to stalk them through the vast trees.
Folk horror is a sub-genre that, despite existing since the 70s with such films as The Wicker Man, has gained far more traction in recent years. Movies like The VVitch and Midsommar are possibly among the most popular of modern folk-horror, but even then you would be hard-pressed to find those who have seen other lesser known folk horror films like No One Makes It Out Alive and the particular film I chose to represent this genre, The Ritual. I believe the reasoning behind this is because many folk horror films delve deep into symbolism, using many stories from various cultures as a representation of a certain subject. But because folk horror requires the viewer to not only take the time to interpret the symbolism but also relate it back to the story represented on screen, viewers simply looking for a scary movie might find these kinds of films boring and a waste of time. Although folk horror definitely isn't for everyone, it's a special sub-genre that allows for its viewers to partake in extensive interpretation and discussion if they so wish, and it often leads to many re-watches for the sake of discovery.
I could not find any platforms where you can watch it for free. Content Warnings for the Film (may contain spoilers): violence, jumpscares, dead animals (only aftermath shown), gore (not incredibly bad), psychological torture, mummified corpses
Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Saw this as a child and it is singlehandedly responsible for my avoiding the ever living fuck out of a certain food for almost two decades 💀
Day Fourteen - Alien (1979)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. This was a random pick years ago that I originally just picked for background noise and wound up getting pulled into the story. Unexpectedly engaging blend of body horror and science fiction, not a standard horror movie but still well worth the watch ✨️
Day Fifteen - The Unseen (2016)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. More queer horror? More queer horror.
Day Sixteen - High Tension/Haute Tension (2003)

Honorable mention below the cut to a few other titles that came from the New French Extremity wave, since there's a few that I'll watch over again at least once a year.
Martyrs (2008)

Livid (2011)

Raw (2016)

Titane (2021)

Thirty-one days of my favorite horror movies in no particular order. Existential dread and futility, my beloved. I need more short films like this ✨️
Day Seventeen - Curve (2016)
