Fandom: BTS Pairing: Vampire!Jungkook x Human!Reader (Female) Genre: Fantasy/Angst Warning: Slight swearing, mild horror atmosphere, vampirish activities (please don’t ask me), blood, biting, fighting, wolves and a sprinkle of smut.  Word Count: 4k Words Note: Totally fictional, some parts of the plot is inspired by the classic Dracula. Some people might feel uncomfortable. Please, read at your own risk.

Summary: When you’re stuck in a deserted road surrounded by wilderness, you have no other choice but to enter the huge mansion you see before you. The man you meet inside is mysterious. But he is too alluring for you to stay away from...

*************************************************

“Oh shit!” I swore as an animal passed by in front of my car and I had to break really hard.

It was past midnight and raining heavily. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to reach the destination of my work till dawn. I still had a long way to go.

I tried to start the car again. But it wasn't responding anymore.

"No, no, please," I pleaded to my car, "this is not the right place. For God's sake..." I kept muttering.

I had to give up trying after a few attempts. The car was a second hand one and it didn't function properly. I tried calling for the recovery. But there was no phone signal either.

Being hopeless, I got down from the car and got drenched immediately.

"Yeah, no, SHIT!" I swore in exasperation. I was cursing myself for agreeing to go into this remote area in the first place. I desperately wished for a miracle.

I looked around me. It felt like the road was in the middle of nowhere. All around me, I could see only wilderness. But there was a faint glow of light ahead of me. Without any further ado, I started to walk towards it.

What I found was astonishing and terrifying at the same time. There was a huge mansion. The front gate was wide open as if it was already aware of my intrusion and was welcoming me all the same.

I went inside the boundary, and knocked on the door. Even through the heavy rain, the sound of someone pushing open the door from within was heard clearly. I took a step backward as I look at the person in front of me.

image

*************************************************

There stood a man in dark clothes. I couldn't see his face properly due to the lack of light.

"Welcome!" He announced without any sign of hesitation, his voice sharp yet not cold.

I tried to explain what had happened in a few sentences before he said, "Perhaps it would be better if you come inside first. I can see you're wet."

I nodded my thanks and went inside despite having some doubts within myself.

He led me through a dark corridor into what looked like a very fancy living room to me. The fire was lit on the fireplace and I was grateful for the warmth.

"If you don't mind waiting here for a moment, love, I have to take care of something." Then, the man was gone.

I found everything really weird. I mean, who talked like that nowadays. His accent and the choices of words were really out of the ordinary.

I noticed that the whole room looked really dark despite being lit up by many candles all around it. I was still sitting by the fire when he came back with a towel and some clothes.

I was about to say it wasn't necessary, that he should not trouble himself with them, when he cut me off and said, "It's not every day a guest come to stay at my place. I'm glad to do anything to make you feel at home. And I apologize early. You might not get full attention since I had sent all the servants away for a week. After all, I was not aware of your arrival."

With that being said, I couldn't argue any further. He again led me to a bedroom and asked me to get changed while he prepare the supper.

The clothes he had given me were all old fashioned. But they were still as new as if no one had ever worn them.

When I came out to the dining room, I was awestricken by the amount of food that were presented before me on the table. The fact that it was done in such a short time by a single person was more fascinating.

The man was sitting on the very corner and called me to sit opposite him. I didn't make any further inquiries as I was starving and the smell was delicious. After having a few bite, I decided to make a conversation.

I found out that the man was called Jeon Jungkook and he was the landlord of the entire mansion. All of his family members had died in a tragic accident leaving him with a huge fortune. He lived alone with some servants to take care of him and the mansion.

As we were talking, I couldn't help but notice how incredibly handsome he was. He had a fine figure. His eyes were almost pitch black and they were huge. He was wearing old fashioned clothes like mine and wore fine silver jewelry. He also had a lot of piercings in his ears, eyebrows and lip.

And Oh God, his lips. As I looked, I couldn't take my eyes off them. I was looking at him in a very devoted way throughout the whole conversation. He was indeed very handsome. In fact, he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen my entire life.

*************************************************

Jungkook had promised to call the recovery for me at dawn (I would call him by his name since he had insisted me upon calling him that). As I lied down, I realized how terribly tired I was. So, I closed my eyes.

"How old is he?" I thought before falling into a deep sleep. He never mentioned his age.

In my dream, I was in a complete different world. There was darkness all around me. The warm room started to get cold as I felt someone coming near. The stranger climbed my bed and lied beside me, his hands slowly reaching to catch both of mine. Suddenly he was on top of me.

“You’re blessed.” He softly whispered on my ear. I could feel his breath going down slowly towards my neck. His lips touched my skin. I felt a sharp pain throughout my whole body.

Then, everything changed. I couldn’t feel the reality anymore. Nothing felt solid. It was as if I was floating through the air. I could see all the colors at once. But then again, there were no colors at all. It felt like every color, matter and surrounding had merged into one. It was a terrific feeling, but a pleasant one too.

“Who are you?” I wanted to ask. But I felt like I already knew the answer. I didn’t want to acknowledge it right away. Because then, I had to come back to the reality; which I didn’t want just then.

I couldn’t tell how long the strange feeling lasted. Slowly my surrounding started to get clearer. Half consciously, I could make out a man’s silhouette raising from my bed. He walked towards the door.

I tried to call out his name. But it seemed like I couldn’t move my muscles. He glanced back at me one last time before making his exit through the door.

*************************************************

I woke up with a jolt and found myself covered with sweat. I was gasping for air as I found it hard to breathe properly. My heart was pounding in my chest. I sat down and tried to relax.

“What time is it?” I thought. It was hard to guess whether it was night or day. I looked around me and saw that my room still looked the same. But I felt like an eternity had passed already.

The windows were covered with heavy thick curtains. So, it was possible that the morning sunlight couldn’t get inside. I slowly rose from my bed and opened one side of a curtain. The scorching heat from the sun reached my face. My eyes closed shut as it couldn’t adjust with the bright light suddenly.

I closed the curtain and went towards my bed again. I was feeling a little weak. There was a dull pain on my neck. I sat down for a while, thinking about last night’s incidents.

Then, suddenly I remembered about my business. I had to be present there before 10 o’clock. I hurriedly got out of bed and sprinted to the living room. Jungkook was sitting on an armchair by the fireplace. Just like my bedroom, all the curtains had blocked out the sunlight here as well.

“Good afternoon, love.” He greeted me with a smile, “did you sleep well?”

“Afternoon?” I gasped, “Oh no!”

“Is there a problem?” he rose from his chair and walked towards me.

I explained that I had an important meeting at 10 and that it was the reason as to why I had come to this place. Now I had already missed it and I didn’t know what to do.

“I’m so sorry, love,” he said, “I didn’t want to wake you up early. I thought you must’ve been very tired since last night’s tragedy.”

I noticed a faint line of smile on his face. It didn’t appear to me that he was sorry at all. In fact, it looked like he was actually glad.

I shook my head. It sounded ridiculous. Why would this man want me to miss the meeting? What was there for him in it?

“As there is nothing you can do about it now, I would suggest you to stay here as long as it takes for your car to be repaired.” Jungkook announced. I didn’t say anything. I was still very confused about everything that was happening.

“You look so pale.” He said, “Come, sit here.” I went over to sit by the fire. He poured a glass of wine and handed it to me.

As I took the glass, our hands touched for a moment and I shivered. His hands were surprisingly cold.

*************************************************

After lunch, Jungkook took me to the library. I was going through the books on the shelves while he sat quietly in a corner. There was a book in his hand. But I could sense that he wasn't reading. He was secretly watching my every move.

I thought about my strange dream. It felt more real than any dream I ever had. But the feelings I felt were too strange to explain in reality. No matter how excited I felt the night before, at day time, I felt like there was an air of melancholy all around the house.

It started to rain again. I inquired about my car. Jungkook told me that it might take a day or two to properly fix it. I asked him if he could give me a ride to the town. He said I would rather enjoy my time in the mansion more.

He spoke with a voice of authority which made me shut up. I couldn't bring myself to argue. Even though I was strongly attracted by his appearance, there was a part of me who was frightened.

Time seemed to move at a different speed here. I tried reading something for a while but kept getting distracted by my own thoughts. It was mostly the memories of last night and those strange feelings.

Casting my fear aside, I thought it would be better to talk to my companion. So, I asked, "It rains an awful lot here, doesn't it?"

Jungkook shut down his book and smiled at me, "Yes, love. It does."

There was something in the way he called me 'love'. It made me blush almost every time. I was swept off for a whole minute by his answer.

He then chuckled to himself and said, "They say, the woods belong to the nine tailed fox that resides in here. After all, he controls the weather."

"He?" I asked, "Isn’t a Gumiho always a woman?"

"Is it, though?" He asked as if he had met a real Gumiho who was a man.

I shrugged my shoulders and added, "He must've been really sad for him to make it rain most of the time."

"Yes, love." Jungkook whispered under his breath, "He’s lonely. Just like I am."

image

*************************************************

Jungkook apologized and said he couldn’t join me for the dinner as he had some important works to be done. He then left me alone to have mine.

As I was eating alone, all kinds of doubts kept revolting around my head. I never saw him eat. He didn’t even joined me for lunch. But why? And how did he prepared the foods all alone in such a short time? I remembered how cold he was when our hands had touched.

But there was something that bothered me much more. He sounded very sad while telling me about the Gumiho. He sounded as if it were true. Or at least he believed it to be.

“He is lonely.” I thought, “Maybe that’s why he doesn’t want me to leave.”

The feeling of loneliness was something I was very much used to. I had never received any love from my family. They had never admired me or appreciated me for anything. In fact I was always considered a disappointment in my family.

All my life, I had searched desperately for a friend who would understand me and love me for who I was. It was the only wish I had cherished since childhood. So, I decided I would not mention about leaving unless Jungkook, himself, asked me to.

I waited for Jungkook for a while to bid him goodnight. But he didn’t come. I thought he might have already been to bed. So, I made my way towards my bedroom.

As soon as I fell asleep, my dream returned. He was on top of me, whispering in my ear, “I don’t want you to leave.”

But this time, I replied, “I don’t want to leave either.”

“Stay with me, will you?”

“Don’t let me go.” I mumbled as I felt his lips on my neck. Something sharp was pushed through my skin and I felt that quick pain all over my body again.

All the strange feelings of the previous night returned. But this time, everything felt more pleasant as I didn’t resist. I let myself loose.

When I came back to my senses, I could see his face clearly. It was indeed Jungkook. I knew it all along. But instead of shying away or being frightened, I was relieved.

He placed a soft kiss on my lips and whispered, “Sweet dreams, love.”

image

*************************************************

I woke up next day with the same feeling like the day before. I was sweating and it was hard to breathe. As soon as I tried to stand up, my head felt dizzy.

“Was it a dream too?” I pondered over last night. Whatever it was, the feelings I felt were a little too strong for me to avoid. I wanted to find out the truth. And the only way to do that was meeting Jungkook.

He was sitting by the fire as usual and looked up with a warm smile on his lips, “You’re awake.”

I slowly nodded and sat down on the armchair opposite him. “What time is it?” I asked.

“The same time you woke up yesterday, I believe.” He said casually. His expression turned serious as he looked at me closely, “Are you feeling well, love?”

I didn’t know whether to tell him the truth. What if it was really a dream? He would think I was mentally unstable. At that point, I was questioning my own sanity as well.

“I feel…” I hesitated before saying, “I’m fine.” Jungkook nodded. But he looked like he didn’t believe it.

“I’m glad that it’s not raining today.” I said, “Maybe, we can go out? Take a walk?”

“No.” Jungkook said sharply, a sudden terror reflected in his eyes. Then, he turned to me and his expression turned soft, “I don’t think you’re quite fit for the job presently, love.”

Then, he left to prepare my lunch. Just like the day before, I had to have lunch alone. But this time, he sat beside me while I eat, looking at me with somewhat fondness.

“Aren’t you going to eat?” I asked.

“I already had mine.” He said.

I was still questioning his behaviors. He was being such a gentleman, taking care of me all alone without any help. Giving me a place to stay when I needed it the most. But there was still a little bit of suspicion I couldn’t get rid of.

I felt weaker than I did the day before. I kept sitting most of the time. Jungkook offered to read me a poetry. I found his voice much more soothing than the poem itself. He could be reading the worst poem ever written in history. But I would still enjoy it as much.

When Jungkook left me to prepare the dinner table, I was walking around to explore some more territory by myself. But the more I walked, the dizzier my head got. At a point, my knees gave up and I started to fall.

But before I could actually touch the ground, Jungkook was already by my side, holding me firmly on his arms. I could see his face from up close. He was genuinely worried about me.

“Love,” he called softly.

I nodded to let him know that I was still conscious. He lifted me up in a bridal style and carried me towards my bedroom. I looked at him earnestly. I needed to ask it or I wouldn’t be able to rest.

“Was it you?” I whispered, “Or was it a dream?”

Jungkook put me to bed slowly. Then, he looked me in the eyes and said, “It was me, alright. But so was your dream.”

image

*************************************************

I woke up in the middle of the night. I felt better than before. I looked around searching for Jungkook. But there was no one in my bedroom.

“Why wouldn’t he come tonight?” I thought, “Was he worried about my health?” Whatever he was doing to me, I could feel it was making me weak. But I still wouldn’t want it to stop.

I walked out of my room. He was nowhere to be seen, not in the living room nor in the library. I walked towards the direction I believed was his bedroom. He wasn’t there either. At that time, I heard the sound of the front gate opening.

I thought he might have went out. So, I followed the previous route I took to get inside and was already in front of the main door. It was wide open. This time I was sure he had gone out.

“But why at this time?” I thought. Hesitantly I went out to check the matter myself. It was a moonlit night. So, there was enough light to see through the woods. I walked around for a while when the howling of the wolves started.

I got scared. But I had already walked a long way from the mansion. I sped up and started to head back. The noises kept coming nearer. I started to run. But the wolves seemed to be just beside me. As I glanced sideways, I saw a wolf jumping right at me.

I fell down, eyes closed and heart beating up to my throat. But the wolf hadn’t touch me. As I looked up, I saw Jungkook. He was standing in between me and the pack of wolves. I couldn’t see his face properly since his back was towards me.

Then, with a hissing sound, he leapt towards the wolves. All the wolves were jumping at him one at a time. But he was invincible. He was dodging almost every attack from the wolves.

I couldn’t make out most of the fight. There was chaos all around. I couldn’t even move a muscle in fear. One of the wolves bit Jungkook on his neck and he screamed in pain. I got up to go near him. But at that moment, what I saw scared me to death.

I looked at Jungkook in disbelief. His face bore the expression of a wild beast. His eyes were scarlet and glowing in the moonlight. Blood was dripping from his mouth.

Our eyes met for a moment. He seemed to have seen the fear in my eyes. I took a step back. His face softened. He tried to walk towards me, mouthing the word, ‘love’.

I turned back and ran.

image

*************************************************

I ran until I couldn’t anymore. I didn’t know where I was going. As I ran, all the memories from the mansion kept replaying in my head.

I never saw Jungkook eat or rest. He was terrified at the idea of going out. All of his room had thick curtains and they blocked the sunlight. His red eyes, his wild expression, the blood in his mouth…

I eventually lost consciousness and fell down on the ground. When I woke up again I was back at the mansion. I was lying on my bed while Jungkook sat at the very corner, looking at me.

I sat up quickly. His face was back to normal again. But I still couldn’t shake off the fear.

“Welcome back, love.” he said. “Are you okay?”

I didn’t answer. I looked out of the window where the curtains were drawn back. The moon was huge tonight.

Jungkook’s voice sounded very serious when he said, “You don’t have to be scared. The wolves won’t bother you anymore.”

I slowly nodded. I didn’t know whom I was more scared of, the wolves or my savior himself.

“Your car had been repaired.” He announced.

Then, he did something quite unexpected. He came to sit closer to me and took both of my hands in his. He looked me in the eyes and said, “You are free to go, love.”

“What have you done to me?” I was in tears.

“I know I have hurt you.” He whispered, “But trust me, I did it because I had no other choice.”

I started to sob. In between all of this mess, there was a kind of comfort I thought I had found. But my hope of an eternity together with this stranger I started to care about, was hanging by a thread.

“I’m so sorry that at some point, I started to care for you. It could have ended easily if I didn’t.” he said. I looked at his eyes. They were full of sorrow and regret.

“What are you?” I asked finally.

“I think you already know that, love.”

image

*************************************************

I stayed awake in my bed. It had been a while since Jungkook left. I couldn’t sleep. The thought of leaving this mansion for good had surrounded me. I was in despair.

I didn’t know for sure how Jungkook was feeling. But he had said he started to care about me even if it was not supposed to have happened. I didn’t know about my own feeling as well. All I knew was that even if it wasn’t love, I was madly craving for him. What could it be? Desire, lust or infatuation?

Love was a complete foreign idea to me. All my life, I had only needs and wants. And I did everything to have them. Now I felt I needed Jungkook. I needed him to care for me. I needed him to make me feel at home. I needed him to do whatever it was that he did.

I had made up my mind. I went to his room. He was sitting up with a book in his hand. He looked at me in confusion.

“I thought I made it clear.” Jungkook said, “You can leave tomorrow.”

“What if I refuse?” I asked. Jungkook’s eyes opened wide. He looked as if he never expected that answer.

“You told me earlier that I was free to go. Does that also mean that I’m free to stay as well?” I asked again.

He shook his head, “I don’t think you understand, love. It’s dangerous. We are two very different things. You can’t live with me.”

“I know,” I said and climbed on to his bed, “Make me just like you.”

“Love!” he whispered, looking hurt by my words.

“I understand how you’re feeling about it. But let me tell you something honestly about me.” I moved closer and took his hands on mine like he had done earlier.

Then, I said all the things I had always wanted to tell a friend, someone who would understand me, someone who would care. Jungkook was the closest I ever had to a friend.

“I don’t have anyone or anything to return to.” I finished by asking him, “Will you accept me to be a part of your world?”

Jungkook chuckled, “I think I should be the one asking you that.” Then, his eyes lit up. It turned bright red as he came closer to whisper in my ear, “So, will you be my bride for an eternity, love?”

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10 [Complete]

The year 1021:

“When will it take place?” Namjoon asked his friend who came to visit him on his cell.

“Tomorrow, during the sunset.” His angel friend replied.

Namjoon slowly nodded. He couldn’t see her face properly due to the lack of light inside the cell. After all, there were no windows. It’s just the fire outside which casted a little light through the door.

“There is still time.” The angel came near him, “You only have to make an official apology. They will let it slide this time.”

“Did the Guardian angel ordered you to say that?” Namjoon asked rather boldly.

The angel cleared her throat, “Yes, she did. But I would have asked you to do the same.”

Namjoon let out a chuckle, “Really? You, of all people?”

“Namjoon,” she came to sit beside him and held his hands, which felt surprisingly cold against her warm skin, “Please, do this for my sake. I can’t bear to lose you.”

Namjoon caressed the back of her hands, “Don’t worry, it will be less hard for you all. They are going to erase all of me from your memories. You will not even remember who I was.”

“Do you think I want that?”

“It wouldn’t matter anyway.”

“But you will remember everything, won’t you? How will you live without us, without all of this?”

Namjoon kept silent. He tried to swallow down the growing lump in his throat. There was nothing he could do about the punishment. It was inevitable, unless he decided to step away from what he strongly believed. It was something impossible for him to do. He was a man, slave of his conscience.

The angel stood up and walked slowly towards the door. She stopped there and glanced back. At that moment, Namjoon desperately wanted to confess his love to her. He thought, “she wouldn’t remember me anyway.”

“Do you have anything left to tell me?” she asked.

Namjoon said, “I love you.”

The angel gave a painful laughter and nodded her head, “I know. I always did.”

Present day:

The sound of the heavy rain seemed to have muted the surrounding. A man in a rather large cloak was walking along the side of the street. The hood was covering most of his face. He kept glancing back every now and then as if he was afraid someone might follow him.

He bumped into someone as he took a turn. “Sorry!” he mumbled.

“Have you gone blind?” the person said, his voice irritated, “Look, what you have done?”

It was only that some parts of his shirt got wet with the rain as his umbrella fell down. It would have been no big deal to an ordinary man. But he was no ordinary man. He was Kim Seokjin, son of the most beautiful being to ever exist, the goddess of love, Aphrodite.

“Sorry,” the man in the cloak said once again and hurried towards his destination. But Seokjin grabbed him by his hand.

“Where do you think you are going, young man? I’m not finished with you yet.”

“Sir,” the cloak man called, “Don’t block my path. I can’t deal with you now. I have an urgent work at hand.”

“What if I do block your path?”

“You might regret it.”

“Make me!” Seokjin scoffed.

Then the cloak man did something unexpected. He took out a small bottle filled with some purple liquid from under his cloak and threw its content at Seokjin’s face.

“What the…” before he could finish his sentence the cloak man jerked away from him and started to walk.

“Hey!” he called as his vision started to get blurry, “What did you do to me?” He was completely in the dark by the time he finished his question.

“Don’t worry, sir!” the cloak man yelled back at him, “It’ll only last for a day.”

The year 1021:

Namjoon appeared before the anticipated crowd. His punishment was finally going to be announced and executed. He felt relieved. After days of being tormented and forced to step back from the decision he had made, it felt like a peaceful moment to be finally discharged, even if that meant he was to be banished to the earth.

All the heavenly figures looked at him, some with curiosity in their eyes, some with hatred and despise, while some with grief, even some with pride and admiration. It occurred to him then, why the devil was the first to be casted away from the heaven. There were more fallen angels after him that nobody knew of or simply didn’t care about.

Namjoon stood straight in front of the Guardian angel. His posture showed that he wasn’t afraid. He was ready to accept the punishment for declining the Gods’ order. The only thing that bothered him was losing his wings. The wings, which he was born with. The pain was equivalent to someone losing their arms or legs, perhaps even more

“Kim Namjoon,” The Guardian called, “You were one of the best angels we had. How did it come to this?”

Namjoon remained silent. He kept pondering over the word, ‘were’.

“We will ask you once again.” The Guardian further said, “Do you accept your mistake and apologize to the whole angel community and the Gods and the Goddesses above?”

“I do apologize to the whole community for not being able to be a better leader. For if I was, I’m sure they would have followed me to the path I chose for myself. But alas! Not a single angel accepted my proposal.”

Hearing this, the crowd broke into a loud protest. The Guardian angel gestured them to remain quiet. Then, she added, with a loud and clear voice, “If it is so, we are afraid you will be banished from the heaven and send to the earth down below."

“I accept my punishment gladly.” Namjoon said, his voice sharp.

The Guardian sighed. There was a hint of pain visible on her face. “Do you have any last wish to make?” she finally asked.

“I wish to keep my wings. This is the only request I make to the majesty. And if your majesty refuses, I would make no protest neither any more requests.”

Another shout broke out from the crowd. Someone yelled, “Wings are the sign of angels. How can you wish to keep it, you devil?”

“Silence.” The guardian rose from her seat. The crowd grew silent once again.

She turned to Namjoon and declared, “Kim Namjoon, I officially give you the permission to keep your wings. But there is a condition. Once on earth, your wings will bear the color pitch black as a mark of disgrace.”

Namjoon bowed his head with his white wings opened wide. He had accepted the condition.

Present day:

The man in the cloak proceeded to his basement. He had found everything he needed, every answer to his questions. What was left to be done was building up his courage to finally do the task.

“Well, well,” someone spoke up from behind him, “if it isn’t the wizard in disguise.”

Before the man could move, he was pulled back by a rope. He sat down on a chair with a thump and the intruder immediately tied him up in a flash. He recognized the stranger at once. It was no other than Kim Seokjin.

“Who are you?” he asked, “How did you find me?”

“Wait!” Seokjin held up a hand in front of him, “I think it’s my turn to ask you questions.”

“You’re underestimating my power, whoever you are.” The man said it like a threat.

Seokjin started to laugh, “You sound a lot more confident than in the state you are in.”

When he was about to say something more Seokjin held up his hand once again and said, “First, hear me out. This is not just an ordinary rope. It’s called the rope of Hestia. I believe you’ve heard about it.”

The man nodded and said as a matter of fact, “I see.” he seemed to think for a while. Then, he added, “Since you’ve recovered from my spell sooner than any ordinary man and carrying one of the most important items of a Goddess, you are definitely no mortal. Now tell me what you are? A God? Perhaps a Demigod?”

“You’re quick, I see.” Seokjin said, impressed.

The man scoffed at this remark, “How did you get hold of that rope?”

Seokjin thought for a moment, “Let’s say, Hestia was really impressed by me.”

“Let’s say, you actually stole it.”

“Whatever, it doesn’t matter now. Since you’re unable to tell any lie, I ask you to reveal your true identity at once.”

The man sighed and answered, “My name’s Min Yoongi. I am 24 years of age. I am a wizard by profession…”

“Wait, what?” Seokjin interrupted him, “You’re a year younger than me? No way, you look like a father of two already.” He started to laugh again.

Yoongi was getting really annoyed by his jokes, “Can we please get to the point? What do you want from me?”

“The truth.” Seokjin replied flatly, “I know you’re up to something. Tell me what it is.”

Yoongi replied, “I’m trying to summon up an angel.”

Both of them gasped at once; Seokjin, for the shocking revelation and Yoongi, to have found out that the rope of Hestia actually worked on him.

Present day:

Namjoon sat by the corner in a bench. It was his usual place. He loved it here because it was peaceful and somewhat relaxing. The children could be seen playing at a distance, their chattering could be heard.

Someone came to sit beside him, “If you don’t mind, may I sit in here?”

Namjoon nodded his head in affirmation. The lady tried to make a small conversation. But since Namjoon didn’t sound very enthusiastic in his replies, she didn’t continue any further.

Namjoon had no other option but to follow this rule he had made for his safety in this dangerous world. If anyone found out about his true identity, he would get caught. Then, Gods knew what would be his final fate.

A Frisbee was thrown at his direction. A kid was gesturing him to throw it back to them. Namjoon stood up and walked towards it to pick it up.

Suddenly, his head started to spin. First, it seemed like his surroundings were vibrating. As he looked towards the ground, he felt it to be shaking rather violently.

Namjoon panicked. “What’s happening to me?” he thought.

He started to lose his sight as everything started to get blurry. The lady asking him if he was okay sounded very distant to him. Then, something exploded in his head.

“Ugh,” he growled in pain. The back of his shirt was torn. The large black wings, which was by then invisible to the mortal eyes, appeared in his back.

The children started to cry and scream in fear. The lady started to take a few steps back, “What is this thing?” she yelled, “Oh my God! Someone call the emergency.”

Then, his knees gave up and he fell to the ground. But what was expected to be a grassland, turned out to be a hard floor beneath him. His head started to feel normal again and the visions slowly came back to him. He knew by his surrounding that he was at a very different place now. He could hear a conversation before him distinctively.

“Does it look like an angel to you?” someone asked.

“Well, I don’t know.” Another replied in annoyance, “You are the one who’s supposed to have seen angels in real life.”

“And I did.” The first one said, “But trust me, never in my life had I seen an angel with black wings, fully dressed in black from his head to toe.”

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10 [Complete]

Jungkook couldn’t recall when the last time he got out of his huge mansion was. It would get really lonely sometimes, living all alone. It wasn’t like this all the time. He was used to travelling around the world a lot. But now, even roaming around his neighboring woods seemed dangerous.

Today, Jungkook had built up his courage and stepped out in to the woods. He could sense that his body was growing weaker. He needed blood. So, he searched for a suitable prey.

He could smell blood ahead of him. “What is it again?” he thought. The smell wasn’t foreign but it was a distant memory to him. He stood there, puzzling over the smell.

“Humans!” as soon as the thought occurred to him a bullet went straight through his side.

“Not bullets!” someone shouted, “use those wooden arrows, idiots. He’s a vampire.”

Jungkook turned back and wanted to run. But someone had already shoot an arrow through one of his legs. He fell on his knees in pain.

“So, this is the end of me.” He thought, “They are going to lock me up in their lab and God knew whatever they are going to do to me.”

They started to come closer, pointing their weapons at him. There were too many of them for Jungkook to fight alone with his weak body. He started wondering whether he should lay still and let them take him or fight back and risk being killed on the process.

“Not today, fellas!” Someone shouted from behind them. All the humans’ attention went straight to the direction at once. In that brief moment of confusion, Jungkook hid himself behind a large tree nearby.

He could sense there was a fight; the bullets were fired and the arrows were thrown in every direction. The humans’ were panicking. Whatever their secret attacker was, it was really swift at its job.

Jungkook was trying to understand what it was. But with all the fuss, and too many humans around, he couldn’t make out the smell. The fight continued for some time. Some of the humans were killed. Jungkook could tell by the smell of their fresh blood in the air. The remaining accepted their defeat and fled.

It was quiet for some time. A sweet voice spoke, “You can come out, now. They are gone.”

Jungkook couldn’t trust the stranger immediately. He was still traumatized because of the sudden attack. Then, a face appeared in front of him. He was startled and moved back in fear.

The face smiled, “It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”

Jungkook was looking at the stranger with wide eyes, trying to make up his mind whether to trust him or not. The stranger gasped at the sight of his injury, “Oh dear, you’re hurt. Come out. Let me help you.”

He held up his hand. Jungkook hesitantly took it and came out in to the open. A huge black wolf suddenly jumped at him and started to lick his face.

“Taehyung!” The gentle stranger spoke, “Stop it. You’re scaring him.”

The wolf got down and whined at him. He laughed, “I know he’s cute. But let him get used to us first.” He turned to Jungkook and said, “He’s just very excited to meet you.”

The wolf nudged its head softly on Jungkook’s arm. For the first time in many years, a smile grew on his face.

“No, no, no!” Yoongi kept muttering for the millionth time as he went through his papers again and again, “This can’t go wrong.”

“Apparently, it has.” Said Seokjin while filing his nails.

“What went wrong?” Yoongi was too frustrated to hear him, “I did it all right. Everything’s to the point; the potions, the signs, the spells.”

“Maybe you somehow pronounced it wrong?” Seokjin further suggested, “With that forever pout on your mouth, it is not surprising.”

Namjoon was looking at those men in front of him. He was not scared even though he was locked up inside a cell. Instead, he was amused by the never ending bickering of the two.

“As I made it pretty clear,” Namjoon cleared his throat to gain their attentions, “I think you are wasting my time and yours, locking me up like this.”

“Then, what do you suggest?” Yoongi asked, his voice dead serious, “Let you go? Just like that? After months of spending sleepless nights to work for this, you think I will let you go that easily?”

Namjoon sighed, “I can’t come to your aid, either. You said it yourself, what you need specifically is an angel. And I’m not one. At least, not anymore.”

The last words he spoke was almost in a whisper. But it was loud enough for Seokjin to catch. “What do you mean by that?” He rose up from his seat and gasped, “Are you a fallen angel, then? Oh my Gods! He is the devil. The devil!”

Yoongi let out a frustrated cry, “Will you please shut up making a fuss about everything?"

“I’m sorry,” Seokjin continued, “but I think, you were the one making a fuss around all this time. Why can’t you just do all these weird rituals again and call up an angel. This time, it might actually show up. After all, there are more angels than devils.”

“Because,” Yoongi slammed his hand on the table, “It can only be done once.”

“Maybe,” Namjoon interrupted their silly arguments again, “if you tell me the true motive behind your doings, I can help you find a real angel.”

“Well, no thanks.” Yoongi dismissed his proposal, “I don’t think my motive is evil enough for a devil’s fancy.”

Namjoon’s voice turned really serious this time, “Why don’t you give it a try?”

image

The boy named Jimin, who had saved Jungkook earlier, had bound a handkerchief on his injured leg. He said, “The wound should not last long. But since you’re too weak and who knows when the last time you had taken blood, I think it might take some time to heal.”

“Umm… four months.” Jungkook mumbled.

“Pardon?” Jimin asked.

Jungkook said hesitantly, “It’s been four months since I last fed on blood.”

“No way!” he gasped, “How did you manage to survive all alone like that?”

Taehyung came back in his human form with a box smile on his face. Jungkook couldn’t help noticing how incredibly young and handsome he looked.

“I’ve hunted a stag.” He announced, “You can have the blood while we feast on its meat.”

“That’s settle then.” Jimin stood up and urged Jungkook to follow them.

After they were done with their dinner, Jimin and Taehyung introduced themselves. Jungkook found out that Jimin was a Gumiho, a nine tailed fox and Taehyung was a werewolf.

“My name is Jeon Jungkook. I’m a vampire.”

Jimin laughed out at his introduction, “Of course, we know that, silly. We also know a lot more about you.”

Jungkook looked puzzled, “How?”

“For instants, we know that you’ve been living in that mansion for quite a long time and there is a legend about you in town. Since the formation of OHA, when all the supernatural beings were forced into hiding, you had faked your death to the OHA people to escape being captured. But nobody from town dared to come to your mansion yet. So far, you had hidden well, my friend.”

“Yeah, you’re right.” Jungkook said, “But since you brought up this matter…” He didn’t finish his sentence.

“What about it?” Jimin asked.

“I don’t think I can go back to the mansion again. They might come back looking for me. The Humans!”

Jimin and Taehyung exchanged worried looks which made Jungkook very nervous. He was afraid they would refuse him to join their group.

Finally, Taehyung said with the same old box smile, “Don’t you worry about it, little friend. You, me, Jimin, we are a set now.”

Kim Joon-Hwi, the founder and CEO of the ‘Organization for Human Aids’, in short OHA, had been very upset lately. Because the progress on his works were getting slower by the day.

Once, there used to be a lot of super natural beings around. They could be easily caught and locked up. The research was blooming at the time. But slowly their numbers declined. Whatever left were now more careful than ever before.

The lab rats they had caught since the last 5 years were dying away fast. Some of them wouldn’t cooperate and even attempted suicide to escape being tested by the scientists and wizards. There were even a small numbers to have escaped the facility.

“We have found out that the ancient vampire called Jeon Jungkook is still alive and thriving in the woods, sir.” One of the guards came to inform him.

Kim Joon-Hwi turned to him, “So, what now? Have you been able to catch him?”

“Unfortunately not, sir!” the guard said, “But we have found out that there are other beings in that woods as well.”

“Other beings?” He was curious now, “What do you mean?”

“A werewolf and perhaps a Gumiho, sir, though we are not absolutely sure about it. He was in human form.”

“A Gumiho!” Kim Joon-Hwi exclaimed, “Come on, prepare all the guards immediately. Their location cannot be lost. Send the wizards too, if necessary.”

The guard bowed and left. Kim Joon-Hwi was really excited. The one and only Gumiho they had caught in 5 years died last year. It was the rarest of species to exist on earth that most people believed it had gone extinct.

“Finally some good news!” he thought.

“Alright,” Yoongi said, “I’ve decided to trust you with my secret.”

“Ah…” Seokjin interrupted, “So, you’re trusting a devil, now. Didn’t I ask you first about that motive of yours?”

“The thing is,” Yoongi continued as if no one had interrupted him, “I’m planning to take down OHA.”

Namjoon and Seokjin looked at each other. They stared intensely for quite a long time.

“They are definitely judging me right now.” Yoongi thought. The next moment, they both burst into laughter.

“I thought you were serious.” Namjoon said, “Which I still think you are. But your plan is an impossible dream. Can’t you tell that? I mean, what gave you the notion that it could actually be done?”

Seokjin was still laughing, “Oh God! Look at this kid. Who does he think he is?”

“Look!” Yoongi said, “I’m not in the mood to explain it all to you, guys. You’ve asked me to tell you my true motive and I did. Whether you believe it or not, that’s up to you.”

After hours of mocking and shouting at each other, Yoongi was finally able to make them see his true vision. Half-heartedly they all agreed upon to pursue the goal of Yoongi.

Namjoon took them with him to meet the angel he had promised. Before he went inside, he turned to them one last time and said, “I want you both to remember that, in my thousand and one years on earth, this is the very first angel I had met a few days ago. If I had any other options, I would have probably taken you to the other ones. So, keep it in mind. He is our only Hope.”

As soon as Namjoon opened the door to the Arcade zone, someone came running to hug him.

“Namjoon-ah…” he called in excitement, “You’ve finally come to meet me.” He was jumping like a five year old while still hugging Namjoon awkwardly.

He was covered with garments and fancy accessories from his head to toe. Colors of all kinds seemed to have been splashed all over him. Starting from bucket hats, chains, bracelets, sunglass, there was also a very weird looking pouch hanging by his pants. Overall he looked like a homeless picking up clothes from wherever he can to make up a messy outfit.

“Guys,” Namjoon gave them an apologetic look, “This is Hoseok, the brightest angel to ever exist.”

“What the actual fuck?” Yoongi said.

“Hmm…” Hoseok said thoughtfully, “So, you want me to help you bring the OHA down. Is that right?”

“Yes!” Yoongi said, wishing desperately that this angel was not as stupid and useless as it appeared to be.

“What’s in here for me?” he asked.

“Huh?” Yoongi was shocked. He had never gave it a thought that the angel might ask for a reward in return. “Well, why would you ask for anything anyway? You are literally bringing down a system that is hunting your kind and many others for 5 years.”

“Oh, I see…” Hoseok turned to Namjoon, “What do you think? Should I abandon my duty to do this guy’s job here?”

“I think, working with this guy will take you closer to your own mission.” Namjoon answered.

Yoongi interrupted, “Actually my name’s Min Yoongi. I would very much appreciate it if you call me by that name.”

“Seriously?” this time, Seokjin sounded annoyed with Yoongi, “Namjoon literally said Hoseok is here on earth for a mission and what you’re worried about is what they are calling you?”

“I accept.” Hoseok said.

“Really?” Yoongi asked hopefully, “You’re going to do this?”

“Yes!”

“Even if there’s too much danger involved?”

“Yes!” Hoseok nodded, looking quite happy for someone joining a suicide mission.

“I think,” Namjoon said, “my work here is done. Good luck to you guys, on your way to bring down the most influential and powerful organization on earth.”

“I don’t think I’m feeling very confident at his words of encouragement. Does anyone else feel like me?” Seokjin looked around.

Hoseok raised his hand while Yoongi said to Namjoon, “No, stay!”

Namjoon raised an eyebrow, “excuse me?”

“Please,” Yoongi pleaded, “Trust me, I have a plan. The more we are in number, the more it is likely to succeed.”

“Yeah, Namjoon-ah.” Hoseok stood up and suddenly started to talk with an authority. “I think friends should stand together at times like this.”

“I didn’t know an angel could be a friend with the devil.” Seokjin mocked.

“Well, it can happen, you see.” Hoseok replied, “Don’t you know, having mutual enemies make people friends? So, we’re all basically friends here.”

“We are?” Seokjin asked in a rather surprised tone.

Hoseok reassured, “We are!”

Jimin and Taehyung took Jungkook to the little hut they called their home. It was out of town, in the middle of the woods. Jungkook noticed that though the hut was not very big, it was very neat and clean, looking like a pleasant place for a family. He remembered how messy his mansion got after all of his servants were being caught by the OHA.

“So, this is a little home I had built for myself.” Jimin announced, looking very proud about it, “I’ve been living here all alone until Taehyung joined me.”

“Yeah,” Taehyung said, a smile never leaving his face, “There’s only two beds. The two of you can take one each. I am happy to squeeze in with any one of you.”

“Thanks.” Jungkook said, “But I don’t sleep.”

“Oh,” Taehyung was taken aback, “I almost forgot that you’re a vampire. Don’t be offended, little friend. I sometimes forget that I’m a werewolf too.”

“Don’t go around calling him ‘little’, Tae.” Jimin said, “He’s been alive for over a century, I believe.”

“Really?” Taehyung asked, “How old are you exactly?”

“Umm…” Jungkook thought for a while, “I don’t know for sure. I can remember being living, umm… being an undead since the 17th century.”

“Don’t you remember your life as a human?” Jimin asked.

Jungkook shook his head. He didn’t remember what his true identity was, who his parents were, how he was as a boy. He didn’t remember what it felt like to be a human with hunger and fatigue. All he remembered was his everlasting thirst for blood.

Jimin kept silent. He felt sorry for Jungkook, who didn’t have any friends or family and who had been surviving all alone for a long time. Jimin knew the feeling of loneliness all too well. That’s why, he had made a promise to himself to keep Taehyung safe. Now, he felt the same responsibility towards Jungkook as well.

“Whatever, it is.” Taehyung broke the silence, “Since, you’re the last one to join the pack, you’re our little one from now on.”

Jungkook tilted his head in affirmation. He didn’t mind being taken care of as a little one.

“Aww…” Taehyung pouted, “Isn’t he so cute?” which made Jimin laugh.

image

OHA had been keeping a watch at the hut of the new formed trio. It wouldn’t be very clever to attack them right away. The guards and the wizards were waiting for the right time.

Catching a nine tailed fox was not too easy. Because they were swift in their movements and can keep up with a long fight. They can manipulate the weather to go against their enemies. The only thing worse than fighting a Gumiho was fighting a Gumiho along with a vampire and a werewolf.

It was an order from Kim Joon-Hwi, himself. There was no option of losing the Gumiho. It had to be caught. Even if it caused them the lives of the other two species. Because, the Gumiho was the real target.

So, the enemies were patient. They were waiting…

image

Yoongi had bought all of them to his place to stay. He needed time to explain his plan. But that was not the real reason for this invitation. Yoongi couldn’t bring himself to trust them just yet. They had agreed to join him on a suicide mission so easily, which made Yoongi suspicious. But he didn’t know that each of them had a good reason to have done it.

“Your place is a so small,” Seokjin commented, “that it’s making me claustrophobic.”

“As if you’ve gotten a better place.” Yoongi muttered. It wasn’t easy for beings like them to stay at a nice place among nice people without being noticed. In fact, it was more dangerous than staying out in the street. Because nobody really cared about homeless people.

“You’re right!” Seokjin said, hearing his remark, “Earth has some really shitty places. I miss home.”

“Where is it?” Hoseok asked enthusiastically.

“At the mount Olympus, of course.” He said with pride, “Mother would keep me at the best place possible. After all, I’m her only child.”

“How are you so sure about that?” Yoongi muttered under his breath again.

“What was that?” Seokjin asked, with a frown clearly visible on his forehead.

“I asked, what are you doing here on earth then? Especially at this time?” Yoongi asked, “Doesn’t Aphrodite know how dangerous the earth was for her only son?”

“That’s none of your business.” Seokjin went straight to the only bedroom available. But Yoongi didn’t complain. He was really satisfied to have pissed Seokjin off.

Namjoon looked around the whole apartment, if it could be called one, to make sure there weren’t anyone spying them from outside a window or something. He also looked around at stuffs Yoongi used to practice wizardry. Judging by those and all the old books lying around, Namjoon believed Yoongi had been practicing them since he was very young.

“Don’t worry about me.” Hoseok said to Yoongi, “I’m used to sleeping on the floor since I came to the earth. At least, I’m glad I don’t have to hide my wings here. So that I can be curled up inside them while I sleep.”

Hoseok was smiling. Yoongi’s heart suddenly felt heavy. He thought how innocent the angel was that he could stay positive even at times like this. Hoseok reminded him of someone he used to know. Someone who had called him his friend. Someone who was now dead and for this, Yoongi was to blame.

image

Taehyung woke up from a sudden loud noise, “Jiminie!” he called out loud.

“It’s okay!” Jimin confirmed, “It’s just a plate.”

Jungkook immediately started to apologize, “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to…”

Jimin cut him out, “You need to stop apologizing for every minor inconvenience.”

Taehyung stood up, rubbing his eyes. “What’s for breakfast?” he asked.

“I’m still trying to figure that out.” Jimin said, “We’re out of meat. We need to go to the supermarket.”

“Maybe the woods would be better.” Taehyung suggested, “We need to find something for Jungkook as well.”

“It’s alright!” Jungkook assured them, “I can go without blood for a week without any hassle.”

All of a sudden, there was a gunshot nearby. This time, they were all alert at once. “Did you hear that?” Taehyung asked.

“Boys,” Jimin commanded, “stay inside. I’ll go check.” Another gunshot.

“I’m coming with you.” Taehyung said while Jungkook nodded.

Before Jimin could say anything, the noises started to grow as if there was a battle going on outside. The trio waited inside, trying to figure out just what was going on.

“I can smell Humans.” Jungkook sat down on a chair, his voice shaking, “They had followed me here. They are going to take me away.”

Jimin went to stand beside him, carefully caressing his head, “Don’t worry, dear. They can’t harm you. Not on my watch!”

Eventually everything was quiet again. Still they didn’t dare to move just then. After what seemed like hours of waiting in fear of something might going wrong, their front door sprang open, causing them to jump in fright. The four strangers stood outside.

“So tell me,” The one wearing a cloak with a hood on stepped inside, “which one of you is the Gumiho?”

“Give me a good reason to trust you.” Jimin asked defensively.

Yoongi and his new partners had brought the trio in his place. At first, Jimin was reluctant to have come with them. But when he saw what the OHA had in their mind and if it weren’t for them, Jimin would have probably ended up in their laboratory, he finally agreed to go with them.

“Trust requires time.” Yoongi said, “And all I’m asking from you is to give me that time. I swear, everything will make sense at the end. It will all go well according to the plan.”

“Well, your first plan was to summon an angel.” Seokjin said, always ready to contradict Yoongi at any given time, “And look, whom you’ve brought instead.” He gave Namjoon a disgusted look.

“Yeah,” Yoongi said as a matter of fact, “someone who brought the said angel to me at least.”

“Yah, Jimin-ah!” Taehyung called, “Look at this angel, here. His wings are so soft. Oh my God! I want to wrap myself in them.”

Jimin gave a faint smile. Taehyung and Jungkook were busy playing with Hoseok as Jimin was having some serious discussion with the rest. They looked surprisingly happy to have joined the new team. They were trusting the new people so easily. It made Jimin worry a lot.

“Oh my God!” Hoseok imitated Taehyung, “And I want to wrap you in my wings as well. Haha…” They were laughing like kids at this point.

Namjoon shook his head, “Are you sure about the sanity of the members of this team?”

Yoongi sighed, unable to answer. He, himself was losing hope the more time he had been spending with these incompatible group of beings he had collected.

image

Whatever the reason might be for each of them, they collectively agreed to do whatever it took them to bring the demise of the organization that had been terrorizing their kinds for years. Apart from Seokjin, everyone seemed to have liked Yoongi too, despite of his cold nature. Little by little Yoongi started to explain the complicated, but not wholly impossible, plan to them all.

First, came the question of participations from the members. How and who would perform which tasks were brought into light. Yoongi would definitely serve as the mastermind of the team. Namjoon, Taehyung and Jungkook would be the strength while Hoseok and Jimin would give the team whatever supernatural skills they had to offer.

“What about Seokjin?” Namjoon asked sarcastically.

“What about me?” Seokjin asked, “Ya’ll definitely need a son of Aphrodite on the team. Someone, whose beauty can distract the enemies at dire times.”

“Who needs to be Aphrodite’s child to look beautiful?” said Taehyung, fixing the collar of his shirt.

Hoseok cracked up at this, “No offense, but that was so true.”

“It’s about number.” Yoongi came to his aid, “We need more people in the team.”

“But that doesn’t mean we can allow about anyone.” Jimin said, afraid that they might end up having a spy among them.

“Anyway,” Namjoon said, his voice suddenly serious now, “I think you are not giving us enough information.” The accusation was directed to Yoongi. “Answer this first, if it was about numbers, why were you so keen at finding specifically an angel and a Gumiho?”

All of their attentions were now at Yoongi. “I…” Yoongi stammered, “it’s because…Well, you see. We need some of the superpowers to fight such a horribly powerful Organization as OHA.” Yoongi’s voice rose as he asked the others, “Does any of you have them as good as these guys?” he pointed at Jimin and Hoseok.

Taehyung shook his head, “Even the OHA would agree to the fact that angels and Gumihos are their most desirable preys.”

Even though everyone seemed to be satisfied by the explanation, Namjoon was feeling a hunch. “This guy is definitely keeping some real secrets to himself.” He thought. But he didn’t let his suspicion be known to anyone else.

“You’ve failed again.” Kim Joon-Hwi raged at the guards and the wizards those who were able to have escaped the last fight with the supernatural beings.

“Sir,” one of the guards informed, “They were more in number than we had anticipated.”

Kim Joon-Hwi shook his head. He had been putting up with enough excuses. They were failing him again and again. He was getting impatient now. He wanted to take the matter at his own hands.

“Two years at best.” He screamed at the leader of the wizards, “That’s how much time you had asked from me. And now, 5 years had already passed and you’re progress is getting slower.”

The wizard lowered his head and said, “But we’ve found something more valuable this time, sir.”

“Tell me more about it.” Kim Joon-Hwi relaxed and sat down on his chair.

“There were four more members in their team, sir.” The wizard informed, “Among them was Yoongi.”

“The wizard Min Yoongi?” He asked.

“Yes, sir.” The wizard answered, “There was an angel too.”

“An angel?” Kim Joon-Hwi again rose from his chair in excitement.

“An angel and another being with black wings; which we couldn’t identify yet.”

Kim Joon-Hwi didn’t show any interest at the other creatures. He said, more to himself than anyone, “That means, Yoongi had finally found the angel.”

There was a moment of silent. Hesitantly, the wizard asked his boss, “Sir, what do we do next?”

“We don’t.” Kim Joon-Hwi replied. There was a faint smirk visible on his face, “They come to us.”

After hours of discussion on their upcoming mission, they all settled down to have a dinner on the floor, since there was no table available. Jungkook wasn’t eating anything. Instead he kept looking at Hoseok with his big doe eyes full of wonder.

“What are you looking at?” Hoseok asked while chewing on a buttered bun.

Jungkook hesitated, “I’ve always imagined angels wearing white clothes.”

“And we do.” Hoseok responded, “In heaven we wear nothing but white; which goes pretty well with our white wings. But since I came to earth, I’ve discovered all these colorful stuffs people wear. And I absolutely love them. So, I tried them on since my wings are invisible most of the times here.”

Jungkook nodded his head while Namjoon remarked, “Well, you should have been more careful in choosing what colors go well together. Splashing random colors aimlessly at a canvas doesn’t create art.”

“I think they do. People here call them ‘abstract arts’” Seokjin said, “Anyway, I like Hoseok’s style of clothing more than yours. Your aesthetic goes with Yoongi, I believe.” Both Namjoon and Yoongi ignored his attempt at insulting them.

Taehyung asked Hoseok, “So, what are you doing on earth? Mommy told me that angels live in heaven.”

“She’s right!” Hoseok answered. He’s more than happy to explain about his home, “Most of our lives, we live there in heaven. But every now and then, we are send down to earth for a purpose.”

“What’s that?” Taehyung asked, listening attentively.

“Well, one of my friends, an angel, came here before me.” His voice doesn’t sound very happy anymore, “But we’ve lost all contacts of him. So, I’ve volunteered to look at the matter. Hence, they allowed me to come on earth.”

“Did you find him?” Taehyung asked once again.

“Nope!” Hoseok said, “I’ve been searching for him for months. At this point, I believe, he had been taken away by OHA. But I didn’t dare fight them alone. I know how much power they hold over all the people here. That’s why, I agreed to join this team. So that I can finally go back home with my friend.”

“I think we should decide upon where to sleep at night.” Yoongi interrupted when Taehyung was about say something more.

image

Yoongi woke up early to make breakfast for them all. He was struggling as it was his first time preparing meals for seven very different species at once. He had managed to steal blood for Jungkook from a nearby clinic last night while everyone slept. It was now time to prepare some nutritious protein meals for the rest.

Seokjin came in the kitchen after sometime, “Why didn’t you wake me up? I told you, I’m a very good cook, didn’t I?”

“Please, just go back.” Yoongi said, “I can’t deal with you now.”

Seokjin understood how stressed Yoongi was. He secretly admired him for his attempt to care for the people he had collected for the mission, but barely knew them all. “He is not as cold as he wanted us to believe.” Seokjin thought.

Then, he joined quietly and started to help Yoongi. At first, Yoongi was sulking at his presence. But by the time, they both got comfortable enough to work together smoothly.

“Where’s Hoseok?” Seokjin asked, “I didn’t see him anywhere this morning.”

“Probably sleeping in the couch.” Yoongi said, stirring the soup he was making for Seokjin and himself.

“Namjoon’s in the couch.” Seokjin said.

“Maybe he’s in the bedroom.” Yoongi suggested.

“I slept in the bedroom last night.” Seokjin informed, his voice alarming at this point, “The newbies had joined me too. But not Hoseok. I thought he was sleeping on the floor next to your desk last night.”

Yoongi stopped stirring, his eyes wide, “Yes, he did. Oh my God! Why didn’t I see him when I woke up? Did he escape?”

“We’re not in a prison. Why would I escape?” Hoseok said as he entered the kitchen. He was holding a grocery bag.

“Did you go out?” Yoongi asked earnestly, “All alone? What if something wrong happened? Don’t you know, they had seen us? They know how we look like. They are out there hunting us.”

“Calm down!” Seokjin hold Yoongi by his shoulders as his voice started to raise in panic.

“I’m so sorry. I just thought there wasn’t enough food for everyone. So, I wanted to help.” Hoseok said.

“Is everything okay?” Jungkook came inside hearing all the fuss.

“Nobody has to help me, okay?” Yoongi suddenly burst out, “This is my house. I’ll do whatever is necessary. I don’t need anyone’s help.”

Jungkook got out of the kitchen immediately. Seokjin said, “Oh shut up! We all know that’s not true.”

At first, it started as a joke. Jungkook took pride in the fact that he was immune to the bullets. Being a vampire, his only weakness was wood. So, the OHA had to find an alternative for the vampires and they had trained themselves in archery; all these trouble just to hunt the vampires and no other creatures.

That’s why, Jungkook’s mates would go around calling him ‘Bulletproof’. It turned out to be a nickname eventually. But when the question of naming their team of seven members came, Namjoon suggested it should be called ‘Bulletproof’ instead as a symbol of their courage at adversaries.

It had been almost a month now. They were training themselves for the future battle they had to face. Even though Yoongi had presented some kind of draft of their plan before them, it was Namjoon who could give detailed direction about how to execute them. So, they all decided to put Namjoon as their leader. Even Yoongi was okay with that.

Meanwhile, their bond grew stronger. Some of them wouldn’t even hesitate to call the others their friends. They got used to be jam-packed at Yoongi’s small basement of an abandoned building too. They started to live as if it were their home. They became much closer to that of a family they never had.

image

The night before their first mission, Yoongi called Jimin to talk about some important issues. When Taehyung was about to follow them, Yoongi stopped him and said, “Perhaps, it would be better if you go to sleep early. We have some shits to be done by tomorrow.”

“It’s okay!” Taehyung pushed aside the proposal, “Let’s hear what you have to say first.”

Hesitantly Yoongi said, “Umm…Actually I want to talk with Jimin in private.”

“Oh!” Taehyung frowned at him but didn’t complain. He went back to the room.

Yoongi took Jimin outside to the unused garage. Jimin kept wondering what it could be that he was trying to conceal from the others.

“I know that the Gumihos can see through time into the future.” Yoongi said flatly.

“Yes!” Jimin said, with a doubt still lingering on his mind.

“I want you to do me a favor.” Yoongi’s voice was rather soft now, “Tell me what you can see about the OHA’s demise.”

“Yoongi,” Jimin called, “I don’t think you understand. It doesn’t work like that. I can’t see whatever I wish to.”

“But if you try hard…” Yoongi couldn’t finish the sentence in excitement.

Jimin sighed, “Even if I could, there is a huge possibility of messing it up. Trying to change an already bad future can turn it worse.”

“I know, I know.” Yoongi said desperately, “I promise I won’t try to change it. I won’t mess up.”

“Then, what is even the point of knowing it beforehand?” Jimin asked.

Yoongi didn’t answer.

Then, Jimin said, “It would be better if we leave this to the destiny.”

Yoongi shook his head, his eyes closed. Thinking for a while, he said carefully, “All the same, you would let me know if you see something, won’t you?”

Jimin nodded without knowing what to do otherwise, “I will.” Then, he was about to leave.

But Yoongi called him again, “Jimin-ah.” Jimin looked back. Yoongi said, “Please, don’t tell the others about our conversation here.”

image

Their first mission was to capture the leader of the wizards of the OHA called the ‘Master of Shadow”. He was the secretary of Kim Joon-Hwi and the mastermind behind all the evil the organization had been doing so far.

Their plan was to do the job as smoothly as they could without any bloody fight. All the ‘Bulletproof’ boys had planned to go. But then on the appointed day, Yoongi refused to join them.

“I’ve decided someone has to stay behind.” Yoongi said, “As I’m the only one who can use magic to prepare a room, so that he can’t escape from it, I think it should be me.” Nobody seemed to have any complain about that.

But Yoongi also added, “And Hoseok will stay with me as well.” This time, they started to protest.

“But we need as many as possible.” Seokjin argued, “And you said it yourself, that an angel is a must on the team.”

“I think you have enough people already…” Yoongi was about to say something more but Jimin interrupted him.

“Maybe our leader can decide upon the matter.” Jimin said. He was not going to leave the matter at Yoongi’s hand anymore.

Namjoon thought for a moment. It occurred to him that Yoongi was being overprotective toward Hoseok. Namjoon didn’t want Hoseok to get hurt as well. After all, he used to be a fellow angel, even though Hoseok didn’t remember anything about Namjoon now.

“I think Yoongi’s right.” He said finally, “Let them stay. The five of us are enough to fight a single wizard.”

image

They set off for the mission without the two and reached the OHA facility. They were to keep a watch at it secretly and wait till the wizard was seen alone. The more time started to pass the more anxious they were getting.

Taehyung suddenly said, “I can’t do this.”

“What are you talking about? You can’t back away now.” Seokjin groaned in annoyance.

“Are you okay?” Namjoon asked Taehyung, noticing that he was breathing heavily.

Taehyung shook his head violently and kept muttering, “I can’t go back there. I can’t go back.”

Jimin went to sit beside Taehyung and started to calm him down, “It’s okay, dear. We are all here with you. This time, you’re not alone.”

“I think he’s having a panic attack.” Seokjin said, now aware about the matter.

“What if they catch me and lock me up again?” Taehyung was close to tearing up.

‘Again?’ Everyone was surprised at the word.

Finally, Jimin had to explain what the matter was about Taehyung. Some years ago, Taehyung was caught and taken to the facility. He had some really bad experiences in there. But fortunately he was able to escape. Jimin had found him and taken care of him ever since.

Namjoon was really upset about it. He told Jimin that he should have told them about it earlier and it wasn’t a good idea to force Taehyung into something like this when he wasn’t ready to face it.

“I’m sorry!” Jimin apologized, “I didn’t realize that the old memories might come back and haunt him.”

Everyone remained quiet, allowing Taehyung to have some time to relax. Jungkook was patting him slowly on the back. After a while, Taehyung seemed to have come to his senses.

He, himself, said, “Alright, guys!” the same old box smile returned to his pretty face, “I’m ready. Let’s do this.”

image

Back at Yoongi’s basement, Hoseok kept asking Yoongi the same question again and again, “Maybe you’re trying to escape a fight. But why didn’t you allow me to go?”

“Why were you even waiting for my permission anyway?” Yoongi rolled his eyes.

“Well, it’s better to avoid a fight if you have the chance.” Hoseok said, “But I can’t think of a benefit of yours in letting me stay.”

“Please, do me a favor.” Yoongi said, getting more annoyed by the time, “Don’t even try to think about it.”

Hoseok started to laugh. But it sounded more like he had been repeating the letter ‘k’ over and over again.

“Please stay here until I come.” Yoongi requested, “I have to go fix a room to lock up the wizard before they arrive.”

“You mean, one of those abandoned rooms upstairs?” Hoseok asked.

“Yeah! Where else can I take him?”

“Oh my Gods!” Hoseok said, “Those are some really nasty places. C’mon, now. Let’s get moving.”

“What do you mean? Are you coming with me?”

“I ain’t letting you do those dirty works alone.” Hoseok was already picking up the broomstick.

“Will you ever let me be alone for a while?” Yoongi sighed.

“Yeah!” Hoseok said, “The day you actually smile.”

And Hoseok was already on the move. What he didn’t see was that Yoongi was actually smiling behind his back.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10 [Complete]

Finally, the moment they were waiting for had arrived. The ‘Master of Shadow’ had left the facility and went for his car.

Taehyung pointed at him, “It’s him! Did you see the mark?”

There was a clear mark of a flower being encircled on his forehead. Everybody knew what that mark meant. It was a mark seen on the body of every wizard who worked for OHA. Though most of them would get the mark in an area where it could be concealed by garments, this wizard had decided to get it on his forehead instead. It was clear that he was proud to be a part of this nasty organization.

“Remember, what we have to do?” Namjoon asked one last time. Everyone nodded in union. Then, they attacked.

Though the wizard was momentarily shocked at their sudden approach, he soon regained his senses and attacked them back with his years of knowledge in magic. Though he was old, it was evident in his moves that he was a really powerful being. No wonder, he was considered the ‘Master of Shadow’.

The boys had targeted to blind his eyes first with the potion Yoongi had given them. Then they would force him to go to sleep playing the kithara of Apollo; which was again a stolen item Seokjin had provided them with.

They could have handled it easily as they had already out numbered him by four. But a guard suddenly appeared on the scene. He was unarmed. So, he soon turned back to go back to the facility to inform others.

Seokjin ran after him. Their mission could get difficult if more people joined the opposition. They had only managed to blind the wizard. Making him lose his senses completely would take some more time. Jimin was still playing the kithara fervently.

“Don’t worry!” Seokjin shouted back at them, “I’ll buy you some time.” And he was already gone inside the facility.

Soon afterwards, the wizard’s huge body fell to the ground, announcing that he was out. They tied him up as quickly as possible.

“Why isn’t Seokjin coming back?” Jungkook asked anxiously.

“We don’t have much time.” Jimin announced, “He might wake up any time.”

“Alright!” Jungkook said, “I’ll go find Seokjin. You guys take him home.”

“No!” Jimin was about to argue.

“There’s no time.” Namjoon urged him, “Let’s go back.” Then, he looked at Jungkook and said, “We’ll come back for you.”

image

Master of Shadow; the most powerful wizard the earth had ever seen, now sat powerless in front of Yoongi. He couldn’t help but feel proud of himself. No wizard had ever dared to pick up a fight with the Master. He was the most ancient wizard alive.

“Welcome back!” Yoongi called as the huge wizard opened his eyes.

“I was hoping to meet you soon, Yoongi.” The wizard said. There wasn’t any sign of fear or hesitation in those old eyes, which made Yoongi nervous. “I don’t see your friends around. Are you afraid I might spill the tea?” The wizard started to laugh in a gigantic way.

“I am not afraid of your useless threats.” Yoongi said, sounding a lot more confident than he felt.

The wizard shook his head slowly, “I pity you, Min Yoongi. You had so much potential in you.” The wizard started to cough. Yoongi waited for him to finish whatever it was he was trying to say. “I remember how proud your grandfather was of you.”

“Don’t speak of him.” Yoongi scoffed.

There was a moment of silence. Then, the wizard said, “You didn’t hope that I would provide you any information about the company, did you?”

“I can’t even dream about it.” Yoongi said, rolling his eyes, “And for the record, I don’t wish for any kind of help from you. I know enough about the company myself.”

Yoongi cleared his throat and continued, “It is not unknown to anyone how powerful of a being you are. My true intention is to keep you away from everything to make our mission easier.”

Yoongi was about to leave when the wizard called him, “I only have one question to you.” As Yoongi turned back, he asked, “Why, Yoongi? Why would you choose those inferior creatures over us, humans?”

Yoongi let out a chuckle, “You’ll never change.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.” This time, he sounded as if he was curious and not mocking anyone.

So, Yoongi decided to be honest, “Because, they are more human than any human I’ve ever known.”

image

Jungkook kept going around the building, searching for Seokjin. He couldn’t go inside and risk getting caught. But it had been hours. All kinds of scary thoughts were surrounding his mind. “What if they had locked him up?” he thought.

Just when Jungkook was about to lose hope, Seokjin showed up. He was limping as he walked but looked completely fine otherwise.

“Hyung!” Jungkook went straight for a hug.

Seokjin looked surprised for a moment. “You’ve waited?” he asked.

“Of course, I did.” Jungkook said, still hugging him tightly. Seokjin nodded and hugged him back. Quite some time had already passed when they let go of each other.

“Let’s go back.” Jungkook said, “They must be worried about us.” Jungkook took one of his hands over his shoulder and helped support Seokjin while they walked.

“What was that you called me, earlier?” Seokjin asked suddenly.

“Huh?” Jungkook said.

Seokjin let out a chuckle, “You’re probably hundreds of years older than me. But I’ll allow it since you’re cute.”

The others were seen at a distance. As soon as they saw them, they came running.

“Thank Gods!” Hoseok exclaimed, “You’re both safe.”

“Wow!” Seokjin said sarcastically, “All of you came back for me?” He seemed to be counting heads. Then, he added, “I don’t see Yoongi.”

“Someone has to stay with the wizard.” Namjoon informed. Then, he took Seokjin’s arm from Jungkook and put it around his shoulder. “Now, tell me, did you get hurt?” Namjoon pointed at his limping leg.

Seokjin shook his head, “It’s nothing.”

“Let’s go back home.” Taehyung suggested, “It had been a long day. I’m starving.”

Seokjin nodded and muttered under his breath, “Yeah, let’s go back…home.”

image

Their first mission was a success. And surprisingly no one was badly hurt. Jimin suggested they should celebrate this victory. Nothing more was needed to be said.

They took out all the huge bottles of alcohol that Yoongi had brewed over the months. They drank and drank until they couldn’t anymore. Other than Jungkook, most of the supernaturals got drunk pretty fast, even before Yoongi, himself.

But there was a minor inconvenience. One of them had to go check on the wizard every now and then. Even though he was sleeping like a baby, nobody trusted him to be left alone for too long. Who knew, what he was up to?

“I can’t even remember when the last time was that I got drunk.” Taehyung said.

“Yeah, me too.” Jimin sat beside him. Then, Taehyung started to play with Jimin’s smooth hair like a puppy.

Jungkook sighed, “Wish I could know that feeling!” He gulped down the whole content of his glass in one go.

“Alright, guys!” Seokjin announced, “I’m going to sleep, now. Who will join me?”

“Wish I could!” another huge sigh left Jungkook’s mouth.

“Jungkook-ah!” Seokjin called, “Come lie with me. Hyung knows a way for Jungkook to get the closest feeling to that of sleeping.”

Jungkook climbed on to the bed beside Seokjin. Then, Seokjin started to hum a lullaby. Everybody grew quiet, taking in the beautiful music coming out of him. The low hum grew into a complete song.

Jungkook’s eyes started to get wet. He had a vague memory of his mother humming a lullaby to him when he was just a human child. But no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t recall her face. Jungkook buried his face in Seokjin’s chest, while he softly stroked his hair.

“He sings like an angel.” Hoseok whispered to Yoongi. Though Yoongi didn’t know how an angel sang, he still nodded in agreement.

image

Yoongi was looking at Hoseok fondly as he tucked in each of the sleeping member with blanket one by one. Apparently, Seokjin’s sweet lullaby was strong enough to put everyone to sleep.

“Are you going to stay like that?” Hoseok asked Jungkook, who was still burying his face on Seokjin’s chest while hugging him tightly. Jungkook nodded and mumbled something inaudible to indicate that he was alright that way.

Hoseok placed a soft goodnight kiss on Jungkook’s head and stood up to see Yoongi staring at him. Hoseok smiled, making a twist inside Yoongi’s stomach. Then, Hoseok signaled him to get out for some fresh air.

Both of them sat on the railing of the roof in their abandoned building with their feet hanging outside. There was a bottle of whiskey Yoongi had brought to share with Hoseok. Every now and then, lightning were striking in the sky suggesting that it might rain anytime.

“Thank you for doing all this.” Hoseok said, “Even if I can’t see how you benefit from OHA’s downfall, thank you all the same.” Yoongi nodded and took a sip from the whiskey bottle.

Then, Hoseok added, “I can’t believe I’m so close to finally meeting my friend. When I first came down to earth, among all the chaos, I had lost hopes of ever reuniting with him. Thanks to you, my hopes came back.”

Hoseok looked at Yoongi and smiled. Yoongi remained silent once again.

“Do you even smile?” Hoseok sighed heavily.

“Umm…Hoseok?” Yoongi called.

“Hmm?”

“It’s a hypothetical question, okay? I mean, it’s just a supposition.”

“What is it?” Hoseok asked, curious at Yoongi’s hesitation.

“Suppose we get to the OHA. But… But your friend isn’t there?”

Hoseok laughed, “What do you mean? Where will he be then?”

“What if he’s…he’s dead?”

“Oh!” Hoseok was taken aback. They both remained silent for a while. Finally, Hoseok said, “It’s funny how I’ve never thought about it.”

Starting from small drops, it started to rain wholly. Hoseok stood up to get back. But Yoongi hold his hand, “Please, stay.”

As Yoongi wasn’t the type to make requests often, Hoseok decided to stay a little more.

“Does it rain in heaven?” Yoongi asked

Hoseok shook his head, “It never does.”

Yoongi closed his eyes and faced the sky, thinking how far he had come. He kept pondering over future possibilities. “Will we really succeed?” he thought. He knew very well, what awaited them if they were to fail.

“No, it can’t be.” Suddenly Yoongi heard Hoseok whispering, “You…How?”

Yoongi looked at Hoseok in confusion. “What happened?” he asked.

“You’re one of them.” Hoseok said. He looked terrified of Yoongi.

At that very moment, it finally occurred to Yoongi what Hoseok was trying to say. He looked down on to his chest. The mark was visible through the white wet shirt on his skin. The mark of the OHA wizards, the encircled flower.

Hoseok stood up and pulled away as Yoongi tried to reach for his hand.

“You lied to us. You are going to sell us off to those monsters, aren’t you?” Hoseok almost screamed. Yoongi couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He only kept shaking his head.

“Oh Gods! I’m such a fool.” Then, Hoseok grabbed his own head as it started to get dizzy by all those drinking he had done earlier. Then, he turned away from Yoongi and let out his wings wide open.

“No, Hoseok!” Yoongi called as Hoseok took a flight out into the storming sky.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10  [Complete]

Yoongi stood in the rain, unable to move a muscle. He had been looking at the sky until Hoseok’s figure disappeared in the darkness of the night. He couldn’t believe he had been caught when he was so close to achieve his goal.

“How dare you dreamt of a bright future?” He felt his conscience asking him, “After everything you had done, did you really think you could turn back from your sins?”

“Why? Were my mistakes too ugly to be forgiven?” Yoongi asked back.

“You are a monster. You’re true place is to dwell in the darkness.”

Yoongi closed his eyes shut. He felt like he had stabbed his friends in their backs. But he was feeling all the pain instead. This pain in his heart was something worse than that of any physical one.

Yoongi looked at his wet white shirt. He laughed at the irony of it. The day he decided to wear white, was the day it revealed the blackest part of himself.

Slowly he walked back to his basement. The place that had been used just for experiments were turned into a home to Yoongi by the most unexpected people. But now, it suddenly felt just like a basement once again.

He looked around it. Things were just the way he had left them a few hours ago. But everything inside Yoongi seemed to have changed. He felt a sudden urge to change his clothes into his older ones. As if wearing something dark again would undone the damage and bring Hoseok back.

Even so, he got changed into one of his black outfits. Then, he went to sit at the very corner of the room where his desk was. The floor was freezing. But Yoongi didn’t seem to mind.

Yoongi buried his face in between his knees. Tears began to fall abruptly. He couldn’t stop them. For the first time since his grandfather died, Yoongi let himself cry.

image

Namjoon woke up in the middle of the night as he heard something. When he listened carefully, he found out that someone was sobbing. Namjoon walked towards it and saw Yoongi sitting at a corner with his head buried in his knees. His whole body was shaking.

Namjoon hesitated but decided to ask him instead, “Is everything… Is everything alright?”

Yoongi’s head slowly rose from his knees. He looked at Namjoon and shook his head. Namjoon noticed that Yoongi’s hair was wet and his eyes were puffy and red, suggesting that he was out in the rain and had been crying for quite a long time.

Namjoon sat beside him. But he didn’t ask Yoongi anything. After a few minutes, Yoongi, himself, broke the silence, “Can I ask you something very personal?”

“Yeah!”

“Why were you casted out of heaven?”

Namjoon was surprised by this sudden approach towards his deepest, darkest secret. But for some reason, he wanted to share it with Yoongi. Yoongi was the kind of person who would understand.

“Well, it’s because I had rebelled against the Gods and Goddesses’ order.”

“But why? What did they ask you to do?”

Namjoon exhaled out a heavy breath. Then, he began to tell it from the beginning, while Yoongi listened like an attentive student learning from his master.

“The world and everything within were practically created just for Humans. But you see, Gods and Goddesses aren’t always right. They make mistakes too. The difference is that they can erase them easily.

“One of those mistakes was creating the giants. The huge creatures with so much strength but a little to no brain at all. They had been a huge obstacle to the humanity since the beginning of time. So, Zeus decided to eliminate them all.

“That’s what the order was exactly. We, angels, were to kill them off from the surface of the earth. That time, I was made the leader to complete this task with my fellow angels. But I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

“How could I? They wanted me to kill the whole race of giants just for the convenience of the humans. But in my eyes, they were just as important as humans were to this earth.”

Namjoon stopped there. He couldn’t go any further.

Yoongi nodded, “So the Gods favor them too?” By ‘them’, he basically meant the OHA.

Then, Yoongi slowly unbuttoned two of his shirt buttons and showed Namjoon what he had been hiding there all this time. Namjoon couldn’t help but gasp at the sight of that cursed mark.

image

“I’m going to reveal something about me which you might find surprising.” Yoongi began in front of the boys.

“I used to…” Yoongi hesitated. He glanced at Namjoon for assurance. Namjoon nodded for him to continue.

Yoongi cleared his throat, “I used to work for the OHA once.” There were some shouts of disbelieve. But nobody complained. They seemed rather curious to know more of the story.

Yoongi got the confidence to continue. Everyone believed everything he told them. In short, what Yoongi said were these:

Yoongi was an orphan raised by his wizard grandfather, who had taught him how to control magic. But he, too, died early, leaving Yoongi all alone in this cruel world. The ‘Master of Shadow’ used to be a close friend to his grandfather. So, after his death, the Master took all of Yoongi’s responsibility.

Since then, all Yoongi knew was hard work. He was never allowed to rest, never allowed to fail and most importantly, never allowed to give up. Yoongi grew up to dislike the ‘Master’, but didn’t dared challenge him.

After the formation of the OHA, the ‘Master of Shadow’ willingly joined the company to work on the Supernatural beings and expand his power. Yoongi had to join with him as well.

At first, Yoongi willingly worked for them too, doing all the research works and even hunting some species occasionally. At a point, he was appointed to experiment on an angel. And this angel was Hoseok’s friend, for whom Hoseok had come down to earth.

After some days of regular meeting with the angel, Yoongi started to take a liking for him. They eventually got close and became friends. When Yoongi learned that the angel’s wings were the last ingredient the OHA needed to acquire whatever their evil target was, Yoongi decided to help the angel escape.

Meanwhile, there was a rumor circulating throughout the facility that the only Gumiho they had been experimenting on had died. And before death, that Gumiho had foreseen a future. It was such that the downfall of the OHA would come by an angel’s hand.

So, instead of running away, the angel decided to tear the company apart so that it could not hurt any more creatures. But the OHA was wicked. They found out about their plan.

Unfortunately, the angel had to take his own life to stop the OHA from using his wings. And Yoongi had no other option but to flee.

Yoongi finished the narration of his story and sat down on his chair. The mood of the room grew much more depressing. Namjoon walked up to Yoongi and patted his shoulders with both hands.

“Since then, I dedicated my life on this mission. That’s why, I was so desperate to find an angel and a Gumiho. That’s why, I asked Jimin to look into the future.” Yoongi said, his eyes ready to tear up any moment, “I’m sorry for keeping this away from you, guys. It was a mistake. And now, Hoseok has left.”

Yoongi buried his face on his hands and once again started to sob. Jimin quickly came to give him a hug, while Namjoon kept patting on his shoulders.

“Don’t worry!” Jimin said, “I’m sure Hoseok will come back to us again.”

image

Momentary silence, everyone was thinking; Yoongi was still questioning his past, Jimin was getting ready to protect the members, Jungkook was missing Hoseok and Namjoon was making a plan.

Suddenly, there was a howling of a wolf from above the building. Jimin’s heart skipped a bit, “Taehyung!” he called.

Not a moment was lost. All of them went to check on Taehyung, who had gone to check on the wizard a while ago. What they found there was surprising and horrifying at the same time.

The door to the prisoner’s room was wide opened. A big black wolf lied in the corner of the room being curled up and shivering. The ‘Master of Shadow’ was nowhere to be seen.

Jungkook and Jimin went straight to the wolf. Jimin tried to calm Taehyung down saying all the comforting words he could come up with while Jungkook ran his hand on his black fur. It took much time to finally bring Taehyung back to himself again. He, then, returned to his human form.

“I’m sorry.” Taehyung wiped a tear from his face, “I couldn’t stop the wizard.”

“Oh dear!” Jimin exclaimed, “Did he hurt you?”

Taehyung nodded like a little child and added, “The door was already opened when I came here. When I tried to stop the wizard, he did something crazy to my brain.”

“Mind control!” Yoongi informed, “He’s a master at that work.”

Taehyung nodded again, “Yes, you’re right. I was under some kind of mind control thing. I felt like I…I was back at the laboratory again. I was chained up to their walls. I…I was locked up.”

“Ssh, baby.” Jimin whispered as Taehyung grew agitated. “You’re not at the facility anymore. You’re here, with us.”

“I’m so sorry.” Taehyung said once again, “I wish I could… I could change my mind. I always feel trapped inside it. It’s suffocating.”

“Don’t apologize.” Namjoon said, “It’s not something you did on purpose.”

“But one thing doesn’t make sense.” Yoongi said, “How was the door opened? The spell I put in there, it couldn’t be broken by anyone from the inside.”

“Maybe the ‘Master’ bewitched Taehyung to do it?” Seokjin suggested.

“But…” Yoongi was about to say something when Namjoon called everyone, “There is a note.”

image

Namjoon read out the note left by the ‘Master’ aloud, “All thanks to you, Min Yoongi, for doing the hardest job of locating an angel and pushing it away into our trap on your own. I hope you don’t regret the decision that you had made two years ago of betraying and working against the company.”

“No!” Yoongi let out a cry of agony.

“They caught Hoseok, didn’t they?” Jungkook’s voice cracked.

Jimin asked, “What do we do now?” while Taehyung kept shaking his head in refusal.

“We need to make a solid plan to rescue Hoseok.” Namjoon said.

Everyone kept suggesting whatever they thought right that should be done. But none of the plan seemed reliable enough. They could never fight hundreds of guards and wizards of the OHA all alone. They needed more people and strength.

“We can’t lose time.” Yoongi said finally, “If the OHA has his wings they will grow more powerful and defeating them will be impossible.”

“Then, what do you suggest we do?” Namjoon asked.

“I’ll go alone.” Yoongi said.

“That’s stupid.” Jungkook said, “We can’t even imagine facing them all together and you’re talking about fighting them alone?”

“I’m the one who’s responsible for this. So, it has to be me.” Yoongi further argued.

“But we can’t let you go without a plan.” Namjoon said rather boldly.

Yoongi nodded at him, “I think, I have one.”

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10  [Complete]

Yoongi knew the way to the cell where they kept their new prisoners. He disguised himself in the form of a guard and made his way to Hoseok. As he reached the dim lighted room, the first thing that caught his eyes were Hoseok’s huge white wings. He was curled up inside it and sleeping rather peacefully.

“Hoseok!” Yoongi whispered, not wanting to alarm the guards outside, “Hoseok, wake up!”

Hoseok opened his eyes and looked at Yoongi with confusion. Yoongi feared that he might start shouting at him again and give away their position. But instead, Hoseok jumped to his feet in excitement and came to hug him through the bars.

“Oh, Yoongi!” Hoseok said, “I’m so sorry to have flown away like that. I was being irrational. I should have listened to you.”

“Ssh!” Yoongi hushed him down, “We’ll talk later. I’m going to get you out of here.” Hoseok nodded.

Yoongi noticed that instead of regular lock in the bars, they had put a spell on it, which Yoongi knows pretty well how to undone. It would take some time but it could be done. Yoongi started to draw some letters in the air and they started to glow. The dark room was filled with colorful lights from them.

After almost half an hour, all the glowing letters merged into one and the door opened. Hoseok gasped at the sight of it. He was about to appreciate the skill when there was a clap in front of him behind Yoongi. Both of them yelped in fright.

Kim Joon-Hwi stood there along with his guards and wizards. “Welcome back, Min Yoongi.” He said.

They had been caught. There was only one way Yoongi could delay their inevitable fate. Delay, but not wholly diminish it. Yoongi got inside the cell with Hoseok and produced a purple aurora all around it by a wave of his hand.

Kim Joon-Hwi and his guards looked puzzled. One of the wizards came forward and whispered something on Kim Joon-Hwi’s ear. He let out a chuckle, “Are you trying to shield yourself inside that cell?”

Yoongi didn’t answer. Kim Joon-Hwi shook his head, “How long do you think you can continue this way? You are now my prisoners. And I will get to you soon.”

image

“If it weren’t for my stupidity, we wouldn’t have ended up in here.” Hoseok said.

“The fault is mine.” Yoongi said, “I shouldn’t have kept secrets from you.”

They sat on the floor of the cell that was currently glowing through the light of the aurora produced by Yoongi. Two guards and a wizard were keeping watch at them.

Hoseok sighed deeply, “I learned what had happened to my friend. But I don’t blame you. You did everything you could. It was his fate.”

Yoongi couldn’t bring himself to say anything. Hoseok continued, ‘’But I’m not as brave as he was. I can’t take my own life. They…They will take away my wings. And then…” Hoseok suddenly burst into tears.

Yoongi went to sit closer. He put his hand on Hoseok’s shoulder and said, “I promise, I won’t let that happen to you.”

“But how?” Hoseok asked while wiping a tear from his cheek.

Suddenly, a big black wolf jumped at the guarding wizard out of nowhere. Yoongi smirked at a shocked Hoseok, “They are here!” As planned, the ‘Bulletproof’ boys had come to their rescue and they had managed to knock out the guards and the wizard.

“Missed us?” Namjoon asked Hoseok sarcastically which made him laugh out in excitement.

They got out of the cell as quietly as possible without raising any alarm in the other OHA members outside. But it would be rather hard for seven people to sneak out of this huge place without being seen.

“I know a dark tunnel that can lead us outside.” Seokjin suggested, “I used that last time I was here to get out.”

So, Seokjin lead them through a door that said ‘Staff Only’ and once they got inside it, it was all dark. “Keep going straight.” Seokjin said and they followed.

They had been walking through it for some time, when Namjoon asked, “Are you sure, this is the right way?” But Seokjin didn’t reply.

They got hit by the wall in front of them announcing that it was a dead end. “What the…” Jimin was about to swear when the lights were turned on. As they looked back they found out that they were inside a huge cage, locked up. And Seokjin was standing outside of it.

One by one, the realization hit them; Seokjin had betrayed them. Now, they were all caught by the OHA. All of them at once.

Jungkook grabbed onto the bars of the cage, his eyes full of pain. He called, “Hyung!”

Seokjin looked away as tears started to prickle his eyes. He said before leaving, “I’m sorry, guys. I had to do it.”

image

The day they had come to abduct the ‘Master of Shadow’ and Seokjin had followed a guard inside the facility, something happened; which was beyond the other’s knowledge.

Seokjin ran after the guard and soon got hold of him. But he was an excellent fighter. When the guard injured one of Seokjin’s legs, Seokjin panicked and hit his head with a statue nearby. Immediately, the guard dropped dead.

It was the first time, Seokjin had killed. He kneeled down to inquire if the guard was really dead or not when he heard a voice from behind, “How did you get inside?”

Seokjin froze. The voice sounded familiar. It sent a shiver down his spine. What he saw before him as he looked back was something truly astonishing. Seokjin couldn’t believe his own eyes.

“Father?” he called, with uncertainty.

Kim Joon-Hwi looked at Seokjin for a moment. Then, recognition came to his eyes. He called back, “Seokjin!” He came forward and embraced him, “Oh, my son!” and patted his back.

“I’ve found you, father.” Seokjin said, fighting back tears.

“How are you?” Kim Joon-Hwi asked after releasing him from his arms, “What brings you to my lab?”

“Your lab?” Seokjin shook his head in disbelief, “So, you’re the one who’s been hunting those creatures?”

“Son!” Kim Joon-Hwi called. He looked like he was hurt by Seokjin’s question. He remained quiet for some time, thinking. Then he added, “Are you calling me a monster now? Did you even ask why I’ve been doing all these?”

“Why?” Seokjin asked flatly, “Tell me, father! Why are you doing this?”

“For you.”

“For me?”

“Yes, son!” Kim Joon-Hwi’s eyes started to get wet as he continued, “You remember how your mother had taken you away from me when you were just a child? I begged her not to. But she said that I was just a mere human and so that I wasn’t worthy of keeping you, a demigod, all to myself. So, I decided to prove to her that I am worthy of being your father. And this was the only way.”

“No!” Seokjin shook his head, “This is not the right way. You can’t kill the innocents to get your son back.”

Kim Joon-Hwi nodded his head and said, “I know, son, what you are thinking of me. But trust me, I did it all for you. For us.”

There was silence. Nobody said anything for a long time. Kim Joon-Hwi continued, “Don’t you want to have that happy family back again? You, me and your mother? All together with no inequity of power?”

“Family?” Seokjin whispered. He had wanted it more than anything in his life. “Yes!” He finally answered.

“Don’t worry, son,” Kim Joon-Hwi said, “We are closer than you think to finally achieve that. All we need now…” He paused for a moment. Then he wetted his lips with his tongue and said, “are your friends.”

“My friends?” Seokjin was bewildered, “Are you asking me to hurt them?”

“No, son.” He said, “Nobody needs to be hurt.”

But Seokjin shook his head in denial, “I can’t do this to them. They are my friends.”

Kim Joon-Hwi further said, “But if I promise not to hurt them, will you bring them here for me, son? For the sake of our broken family?”

Seokjin thought for a moment. His father had been hurting and killing other species all this time, for them. Then, he looked at the dead guard lying on the floor. Hadn’t he killed for his friends as well? Weren’t they going to kill many more to achieve their own goal?

“You promise you won’t hurt them?” Seokjin asked for confirmation.

Kim Joon-Hwi hugged him and said, “I promise.”

image

“I should have known it!” Yoongi was frustrated with himself, “It was one of us who helped the Master escape.”

“I can’t believe we had a spy among us.” Jimin sat down in disbelief.

At that time, Kim Joon-Hwi entered the room followed by his son. Seokjin kept his head down, avoiding eye contacts with his friends. Some guards and wizards entered the room after them.

“Min Yoongi,” Kim Joon-Hwi called, “Didn’t I say, you were my prisoner now? I hope you know very well how I punish the traitors.”

Seokjin reminded his father immediately, “Father, you’ve promised.” Him addressing the CEO of OHA as father momentarily shocked them all.

“My son!” He didn’t bother looking back at him, “I think there is a lot more you still need to learn. You won’t survive in this world with that naïve brain of yours.”

“I’m not sure I understand.” Seokjin said, his voice sharp.

Kim Joon-Hwi laughed. It sounded deafening to his ears. He said, “What you need to understand is that promises are made to broken. You can’t trust someone for his words only.”

“Father!” Seokjin called him in frustration.

But Kim Joon-HWi continued, “I need that angel’s wings and the blood of the Gumiho. Only then, I can be more powerful than the Gods and Goddesses above.”

“But it wasn’t about power, was it?” Seokjin asked, desperately wanting his father to say that he didn’t mean it, that his decision of betraying his friends wasn’t wrong.

“Huh!” Kim Joon-Hwi scoffed, “Everything’s about power. You think that I have no dignity in me? That I will want to get back with Aphrodite even after she had insulted me for being a mortal?” Then, he yelled, “No! I’ll make sure the last thing she’ll know before dying is that we, humans, are capable of anything.”

Kim Joon-Hwi ordered the guards and the wizards, “Bring the angel out and work on his wings. Be careful! Don’t make the same mistake again. I need the wings to be cut out while he’s still alive.”

“No!” Both Seokjin and Yoongi screamed at the same time. Two guards held Seokjin back as he came forward to attack his father causing him to fall on the ground.

“How dare you attack me, you little freak?” Kim Joon-Hwi yelled at his son. He told the guards holding onto Seokjin, “Lock him away. I will deal with him later.”

“Don’t you try hurting my friends!” Namjoon threatened Kim Joon-Hwi, “I will make you pay for every inch of it.”

“Think about saving yourself, you devil!” Kim Joon-Hwi said and turned back to go while the guards and wizards took away the struggling Seokjin and Hoseok.

image

There was nothing Yoongi could do to open up the lock from the inside. He kept muttering things and putting spells while everyone waited impatiently. Soon, it was clear that the spells were not working.

“The only way out will be us, fighting the guards once they come to take me.” Jimin finally said, “Didn’t you hear what the CEO said? He needed my blood along with Hoseok’s wings.”

Jimin was right. After some time, three guards came. One of them announced, “I’m going to bring the Gumiho out. Everyone step back or you’ll be shot to death.”

The gate to their cage was opened. Two guards entered while the other stood outside pointing his gun at them. Namjoon pointed at the guard outside. Taehyung nodded and turned himself into the huge wolf and attacked the guards those came inside. The one outside missed a shot at Taehyung as he was moving too fast.

Before they could figure out the situation properly, Jungkook and Yoongi were already on the move. Jungkook bit a guard down while Yoongi froze the one outside with his spell temporarily. But one of them managed to escape.

“Let’s get out of here before the...” Namjoon couldn’t finish the sentence when the emergency alarm went off.

“Oh shit!” Yoongi swore, “We’re fucked.”

The sirens went off, making it hard to hear one another properly. They had come out of the tunnel. But there were guards and wizards all around, coming at them with their weapons.

Namjoon turned to Yoongi and shouted through the deafening noise of the alarm, “We will fight them. You search for Hoseok.”

When Yoongi was about to leave, Namjoon grabbed his hand and added, “Look for Seokjin too.” Yoongi nodded and ran towards the stairs.

Namjoon looked at the remaining members by his side, the latest to join their team, ‘the golden trio’ as they liked to call them. He tried to put on a smile on his face as he said, “No matter what happens today, know this; if we go down, we go down fighting!”

“Fighting!” Jimin and Jungkook shouted in union while Taehyung, being in his wolf form, howled. Then they all jumped on their enemies.

Namjoon spread out his huge black wings and took a flight. From above, he could clearly see everyone’s position. Even though inside a building, it looked like a battle field. He thought to himself, “So, this is how it feels to be in a real battle.”

Jungkook aimed for the guards with the wooden arrows first and started to disarm them one by one. Because of his amazing speed, the guards failed to catch up with him. But, the number of guards were too many for a single vampire to handle.

Namjoon got down with a huge force and caused some guards to fall back. He used his wings to disarm a bunch of them all at once. Jungkook looked at him in awe for a moment before going back to fight again. Despite their situation, it brought a smile on Namjoon’s face.

The wizards and guards were mostly focusing on Jimin. But his swift movements helped him to escape their traps. He dodged almost every bullets being fired at him.

Taehyung, on the other hand, jumped at those Jimin had failed to notice. He attacked them suddenly, making them miss their targets.

They were handling it well until the ‘Master of Shadow’ appeared. They didn’t notice his approach. He made his way directly to Jimin through the messy fight. Then, he placed his thumb on Jimin’s forehead, making him still instantly.

image

Jimin looked around in panic as his surrounding changed abruptly. Wherever he looked, all he could see were large trees. It didn’t make any sense to him. How could he be teleported into a whole different place in a second?

“Jimin-ah!” a familiar voice spoke from behind him.

Jimin looked back at the owner of the voice. Even before he saw the face, he knew very well whom it belonged to. “Sarang?” he called, disbelief spread on his face as he looked at the person he once used to call the ‘love of his life’.

The girl raised her hand towards him. Jimin reached to touch her hand, doubting that his hand might go right through it. But it was solid as it could be. Jimin sighed in relief.

The girl slowly led him out of the forest into a path. “Where are you taking me?” as soon as the question left his mouth, he knew the answer immediately.

He knew exactly where she was leading him to. He knew exactly what was going to happen next. He had lived this precise moment. He had lived it more than a hundred years ago.

“No!” he wanted to scream. He wanted to stop walking. He wanted to take away his hand from her. But none of his actions seemed to belong to him anymore. He was, as if, a puppet made to do whatever the puppeteer wished to be done.

He was brought to the middle of the bazaar of a village. The girl let go of his hand and ran away to a nearby house. One by one, the villagers appeared in front of him, each holding a torch made out of fire. Jimin was surrounded by monsters. He was surrounded by humans.

The leader among them shouted, “Let’s free our forest of this monster’s control. Let’s burn the Gumiho down.” And they all raised their torches towards the sky before coming at him. He was going to be burned. There wasn’t enough time for him to make it rain to stop the fire.

Suddenly, Jimin remembered. These people belonged to the past. They were all dead now. Jimin, himself, had killed them. He had made his escape from them, burning the whole village down in the process.

Jimin forced his eyes shut and concentrated really hard. A memory suddenly peaked at his mind’s eyes. It was of him and the ‘Bulletproof’ boys on a cold snowy day. They were gathered before the fireplace, all wrapped up inside a single huge blanket.

He remembered that he was supposed to be at the OHA facility with his friends, fighting a new group of humans. He needed to come back to reality. He needed to save his friends and himself.

Jimin opened his eyes.

image

Yoongi kept searching aimlessly through the empty second floor corridor and the rooms within. It seemed like every member of the OHA had gone to fight his friends.

He was worried about them. But mostly, he was worried about Hoseok. He had promised to protect him at all cost. But those monsters had taken him away in front of Yoongi. And Yoongi couldn’t do anything about it.

He kept muttering the freezing spell under his breath in case any guard showed up. He stopped abruptly in front of a seemingly empty room. Hoseok was lying on the floor, eyes closed, in a pool of blood.

Yoongi immediately ran towards him and kneeled down. Blood stained his arms and clothes. As he took Hoseok’s head on his lap, Hoseok opened his eyes slowly. Tears were glistening on his eyes and cheeks.

“You came?” Hoseok said, his voice merely a whisper.

Yoongi stared at him silently. It was too late. They had cut off his wings. Yoongi had failed his friend once again. At that precise moment, nothing seemed to matter to Yoongi anymore. He would have gladly ceased to exist if given the chance.

“They had taken my wings away.” Hoseok said, as if he was informing about someone’s death. A moment of silence passed between them. Then, Hoseok continued, “Go get him before he uses my wings on himself. He would hurt you once he became too powerful.”

A tear fell from Yoongi’s eye. How could Hoseok think about them being hurt when he, himself, was surrounded by his own blood?

“It’s all my fault.” Yoongi said, “I shouldn’t have brought any of you to fight these monsters.”

Hoseok raised his head closer to Yoongi’s chest. He hugged Yoongi around the neck and said, “Thanks to you I realized that some things are worth fighting for. I fought for my friends. And I’m glad that I did. Even if it caused me to lose the most precious part of myself.”

Hearing Hoseok saying those words hurt Yoongi even more. He couldn’t control himself anymore. He hugged onto Hoseok and started to sob, whispering softly, “I’m sorry, my friend. Please, forgive me for I couldn’t keep my promise.”

“Don’t you worry, now. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m happy to die on my friend’s arms.” Hoseok whispered back.

Yoongi shook his head, wiping his tears with one hand and holding Hoseok tightly with the other, “No! You’re not going to die. Not today!”

image

Jimin opened his eyes only to find himself being chained up and sitting on the floor. The sound of the alarm and that of the fighting had stopped. The sudden silence scared him. He looked around for his friends.

Among some dead and unconscious guards and wizards lying all around, Jimin saw Jungkook. He was bleeding through his arms, where an arrow was still stuck inside. Namjoon was by his side, spreading his wings around in an attempt to shield him from the approaching guards.

Jimin’s eyes desperately searched for his best friend. How could he not notice the big black wolf in the crowd? Then, he saw him. Taehyung, in his human form, was lying on the far corner. His body showed no movements at all. It was hard to tell from Jimin’s place if he was still alive or not.

Jimin tried to get rid of the chains. But the more he struggled to free himself, the more the chains seemed to be tightening around his hands and legs. A faint glow of red light appeared from it every time he moved.

“It’s no use.” The ‘Master of Shadow’ announced, making Jimin yelped as he didn’t notice him in front of him all this time. “Only someone who’s not bound to those chains can free you.”

Then, the Master looked around. The place looked exactly like an aftermath of a huge battle. He shook his head, “What a pitiable state you’ve landed yourselves in!”

“Let them go.” Jimin stated, “You need me the most. I promise I won’t try to resist to anything you do to me. But in return you have to free them and never go after them again.”

“That’s right!” The Master sighed heavily, “We need you. But it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be killed. Can’t you see? You’re in no position to negotiate.”

“I beg you, then.” Jimin pleaded, almost tearing up at the thought of his friends being hurt, “Kill me if you have to. But let my friends go. You have no use of them anymore.”

The ‘Master of Shadow’ continued as if Jimin hadn’t spoken, “Your friends, on the other hand, will answer for all the damage they had caused us.”

image

“Bold of you to assume that we’re done already.” Someone shouted from behind the ‘Master’. Before, he could look back, a rope pulled him with an incredible speed, making him sit on a chair with a heavy thump. Then, he was tied up to the chair by the rope in a flash. “As far as I know, not even the strongest wizard can cut through the rope of Hestia.”

“Seokjin!” Jimin called in excitement. Seokjin smiled at his friend but couldn’t greet him back as the guards those were guarding Namjoon and Jungkook, noticed him. As soon as they did, they started to fire aimlessly at Seokjin.

But he moved away instantly from his friends. And the guards followed. When they had gone into a minimum safe distance from the injured creatures, Seokjin took out something from his pocket and threw it at the guards and wizards. Immediately there was a huge blast and the smoke took over their surrounding.

Seokjin made the best of the brief moment. He quickly unchained Jimin and they both ran towards Taehyung. “Can you carry him out?” Seokjin asked Jimin and he nodded.

Namjoon and Jungkook were already on the move. At that time, others came running through the stairs. They were afraid that more guards had come to stop them.

But to their surprise, they saw that those were the previous prisoners of the OHA. Seokjin had released them, one by one, all this time while his friends were busy fighting the OHA. They saw that with the prisoners, were their beloved friends. Yoongi was carrying an unconscious Hoseok in a bridal way.

“Make it quick.” Seokjin urged them to go out before the guards and the wizards gain their stabilities back.

They all run through the exit door and come out into the open. “C’mon! Through the forest!” Seokjin directed them forward, trailing behind them as they go.

He took a one last look at the OHA facility before pressing the button on the remote in his hand, making the whole building explode with an ear-splitting roar.

We Are Only Seven - Chapter 10 (Final)

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10  [Complete]

They had escaped to the wood, made fire to keep themselves warm and hunted down animals to prepare for supper. Hoseok was lying on the ground, his head rested on Yoongi’s lap. Namjoon and Seokjin sat silently with them. The other ‘Bulletproof’ boys were spending time with the escaped prisoners. There were two vampires, a werewolf, three demigods, two elves and a satyr.

Taehyung was found to be alright and not badly hurt. He had recognized the werewolf from when he was a prisoner himself and they started a conversation. Jungkook talked with the vampires to learn about his servants; those who had been caught. He found out that they had been killed during the experiments. Jimin stayed quiet the whole time.

Meanwhile, Yoongi kept muttering a spell in an attempt to heal his unconscious friend of the wound that had been left on his back. But it didn’t seem to be working properly. Namjoon came closer and Yoongi noticed the tears on his cheeks.

Namjoon gently wiped them away with his hand and placed it on Hoseok’s back. Light sparkled through Hoseok’s wound for a moment. Then, it healed completely. Yoongi gasped in shock.

“I almost forgot,” Yoongi said, “You were an angel once.”

Namjoon nodded but remained silent. It was a common knowledge that an angel’s tears can heal any wound. Yoongi being an educated wizard, should have known that.

Seokjin stood up and announced, “I think, this is the time I part. I had caused enough trouble to you all. I know I’ve done something terrible and it’s beyond forgiveness. But if you can, please forget my mistakes and remember only the good parts of our journey together. Do this for the old time’s sake.”

“But you can’t just go away that easily.” Namjoon said boldly.

Seokjin was taken aback. Namjoon never sounded this serious before. Not even at the worst time possible.

Namjoon stood in front of him, arms crossed, and said, “Did you forget the iconic ‘Once you Jim-in, you can’t Jim-out’ line?”

Yoongi let out a small laugh. Seokjin couldn’t believe it. Namjoon was not mad at him. In fact, he was making jokes. He was even okay with him being on the team.

The golden trio had come towards them. Hearing Seokjin wanting to leave, Jungkook whined, "Hyung, you can’t leave us like that.”

“Especially, not after saving us like a hero.” Jimin said, while hanging a hand on Jungkook’s shoulder. “We are not gonna let you be the main character of the story.”

Yoongi pleaded, “Just let us know the truth. When did you go against us exactly? Don’t say it was since the beginning.”

Seokjin shook his head. Tears were threatening to come out of his eyes at the surprisingly kind reactions from the others. But he told them the truth anyway.

He told them, how he was once a normal boy living with his Goddess mother and mortal father. Until one day, Aphrodite decided to take him away to the Mount Olympus. Being a kid, he always wondered what the reason could be. He was sure of one thing; his mother was indifferent to him. She never showed love or affection towards him.

As he grew up, the longing for his father, who once used to love the boy so much, became stronger. Then, one day, Seokjin decided to escape Mount Olympus with the help of some other Gods. By his own wits, he was able to come down to the earth. He had been searching for his father since then.

“But then, I met Yoongi.” Seokjin said, “When I heard about his plan of bringing down the OHA, I decided to stay with the team in hope of finding my father. But I swear, I didn’t know he was the CEO of this fucked up institution. I don’t know what got into me when I agreed to help him. I believed him to be a good man. I never imagined he could be so cruel.”

“Everyone believes their father is a good man.” Taehyung sighed.

Suddenly, one of the elves came to interrupt them, “Don’t you think it would be wiser to leave the wood and go to a safe place?”

They exchanged some worried looks. Even though the OHA facility was being destroyed, all thanks to Seokjin’s explosion, they couldn’t be sure if their enemies were really gone or not. They couldn’t go back to their abandoned building and risk being attacked.

The elf continued, “I know a place. It’s the safest of places for beings like us. We should go to the ‘ARMY’.”

“ARMY?” The ‘Bulletproof’ boys asked in union.

image

Aid and Refuge for Mortals by Youths, in short ARMY, was a secret society formed by young people who believed in equality among humans and other intelligent beings. The members of this organization called themselves ARMY too. Being less in number and power, they ran their rescue missions of saving the non-humans from the OHA secretly. And these secret missions were the reason behind the OHA’s failures at the recent times.

The elf knew their hideout very well. He was on his way to seek help from them when he was caught by the wizards almost a year ago. Now, he led his rescuers and the fellow prisoners to the only safe place there was on earth.

There were minutes of confusion among the ARMY seeing a large number of non-humans gathering outside. Soon after Namjoon explained the situation clearly, the ARMY let themselves in.

They were then taken to the leader of the organization. Her name was Linha. Despite her tall figure and intimidating face, she was quite friendly and kind. She welcomed them with overwhelming joy and learned about each of them individually. Her eyes got teary as she learned how they had managed to escape the OHA and exploded their laboratories before coming to them.

“You did the impossible.” Linha exclaimed. It was her usual way of talking. “I can’t believe you did something in such a short time which we had been planning for so long.”

“All thanks to Seokjin.” Namjoon said, “He did almost everything.”

“Yeah,” Seokjin scoffed at himself, still not over the guilt he was feeling for betraying his friends, “after ruining our original plan completely.”

There were so many ARMY and other non-humans inside the pretty huge hideout. The ‘Bulletproof’ boys almost couldn’t believe the fact that so many humans were on their side and they were willing to fight for their freedom. They had spent most of their lives being afraid of the humans that accepting them as their friends was something they found difficult.

They learned that there were more humans out there on earth who believed in the equality too but couldn’t voice out their opinion in fear of the OHA. Some of them were even helping the ARMY with whatever they could offer, ranging from shelter for some beings to providing medical supports.

In order to celebrate the official downfall of the OHA, they arranged a huge feast for themselves along with the new comers. Everyone ate and drank to the fullest. The music was turned on and they danced and sang out their hearts.

Then, Linha made a great announcement, “From now on, we won’t hide anymore. We will declare our victory over the OHA. We will reveal it to the whole world that from today, we all live in unity. Humans, vampires, werewolves, elves, satyrs, centaurs, demigods,” she glanced at Hoseok for a while and added, “angels and many more. We all live in harmony and without fear.”

They all cried out with full of enthusiasm. But suddenly there was a blast. It made their whole ceiling crash. When they looked up, they could make out a figure with huge wings flying down towards them.

image

“What happened to the others?” Kim Joon-Hwi inquired about his guards and wizards.

“They’re all dead, sir.” The Master of shadow informed.

The Master was the only one to have escaped the OHA facility after the explosion. He, then, went straight to Kim Joon-Hwi, who had already made his escape after getting his most desired thing, an angel’s wings.

“Are you telling me that you have lost the Gumiho?” Kim Joon-Hwi asked, his tone deep and serious. When the Master looked down without replying, Kim Joon-Hwi let out a terrible laugh, “How will I survive after attaching the wings on myself if I failed to kill the Gumiho?”

The real reason for his desperation for the Gumiho was that, a Gumiho was the most powerful being to exist on earth. And if he had to attach the angel wings on himself in order to be as powerful as the Gods, he needed to kill someone powerful first.

“Sir,” The master spoke, “I think we should wait. I promise to find that Gumiho as soon as I can.”

“No!” Kim Joon-Hwi said rather calmly this time, “I have waited long enough.” The Master was about to interrupt but he held his hand up to silence him, “You have done enough all these years. In fact, it’s the result of your research that I am now going to be the most powerful.”

He went closer and rested his hand on the Master’s shoulder. The Master bowed in gratitude for the appreciation. But the next moment, he felt a sharp pain on his back. He fell to the ground with a loud groan when he realized that he had been stabbed.

“You think I didn’t know who killed the last Gumiho on our laboratory?” Kim Joon-Hwi stated to the dying man before him. “I know why you had joined the company in the first place. You wanted power.” Then, he laughed manically and added, “Killing a powerful wizard like you will serve my purpose.”

The Master of Shadow struggled to say his last words, “Yoongi. Was. Right.”

But Kim Joon-Hwi didn’t pay any heed to it. He kneeled down to whisper, “Goodbye to you! From now on, you can rest all you want.”

image

Kim Joon-Hwi looked deadly with the wings on his back. The veins on his body had popped up within his skin. His eyes were red and they glowed when he shouted or showed any excitement. The wind he created by flapping his wings can overthrow Jimin’s old hut in a second.

“Father?” Seokjin whispered in disbelief.

“Everyone, grab your weapons!” Linha shouted her instructions at others. Then, they all were busy getting hold onto a weapon they could find.

“Fools!” Kim Joon-Hwi screamed, “I am inevitable now. Accept me as your new God if you don’t wish to die.”

Seokjin tried to step forward to speak to him. But Yoongi held him back and said, “Not now! He’s more dangerous than ever before.”

“But…” Seokjin was interrupted by a sudden explosion. An Army had thrown a bomb at the monster. But he soon came out of the smoke, laughing gigantically, proving his statement earlier.

The ARMY knew that it was too late. There was no way they could win against this monster. But they were not going to give up. They would rather die fighting. And with that mindset, they jumped.

No explosion, bullets or arrows could penetrate his skin. On the other hand, the ARMYs and the supernaturals were badly hurt. Some of them were already dead. Seokjin looked around the miseries. His heart clenched inside when he noticed one of his friend taking a flight to fight his monstrous father face to face.

“Namjoon!” Seokjin called to stop him.

“Why don’t you fight someone your equal, instead?” Namjoon yelled at Kim Joon-Hwi, who was pointing at a satyr with a gun on his hand.

He looked back at Namjoon and snarled at him, “Did you just compared me with yourself, you pathetic devil?”

“Why?” Namjoon smirked, “Are you scared?”

Without a delay, Kim Joon-Hwi launched himself on him and they flew away from the sight of the rest.

“No!” Seokjin screamed, “Namjoon, please come back.”

But they were nowhere to be seen. All around, the only sounds were of the burning and wailing of the injured. Everyone got busy helping out the wounded. Some of them were even grateful that the monster had spared them some time. Some were mourning for the death of their closed ones.

Hoseok collected the ‘Bulletproof’ boys from the crowd one by one and made sure none of them were hurt. They reached Seokjin last. Taehyung called, “Thank God, you’re here.”

“Where’s Namjoon?” Jimin asked. But Seokjin didn’t answer. Jungkook and Taehyung gasped as they realized Namjoon was the one who had driven away that monster.

Suddenly, Jimin sat on the ground. All of their attentions shot to him. “I think… I see something.” He said. He shut his eyes closed tightly, his brows furrowed.

Yoongi went closer to sit beside him, “Is it a vision?”

Jimin nodded violently and said, “He’s dead. Kim Joon-Hwi’s dead. And…” He stopped for a while. He looked as if he were concentrating on a scene with his eyes closed.

“Who killed him?” Yoongi asked. Everyone paid more attention.

“I can see wings.”

“An angel?” Yoongi asked in disbelief, glancing at Hoseok for a while.

Jimin opened his eyes abruptly and gasped, “Namjoon.” He declared, “Namjoon’s the angel who was supposed to bring the demise of the OHA.”

image

Namjoon stood at the entrance door, Hoseok’s formal wings hanging on his hands. He looked exhausted, which was rarely visible on his face. Jungkook ran to hug him without a delay.

Namjoon spoke to the others after Jungkook released him, “Kim Joon-Hwi’s dead. We have nothing to fear anymore.”

Everyone cheered and shouted in excitement. Some of them patted Namjoon on his back and thanked him. After minutes of celebrating the good news, everyone went back to their business; fixing the aftermath of the short but terrible battle.

The dawn had broken. Seokjin sat at the edge of the lake and gazed at the rising sun. Namjoon came to sit beside him. Seokjin glanced at him and looked back at the sun again. He said, “You’re the true hero. You’ve saved everyone.”

“I’m sorry for your loss.” Namjoon said in a low voice.

Seokjin let out a fake laugh and said, “Don’t apologize. You did the right thing. If I had done it earlier, Hoseok still would have his wings. Not to mention how many people could have been saved.”

“Do you want to know what happened exactly?” Namjoon hesitantly asked.

“Surprisingly, yes!” Seokjin turned to face him, “I’m still stupid enough to care to know how my father died.”

Namjoon nodded understandingly and said, “I gave him a chance to save himself, you know, for your sake. But he said, he would rather die than live with the pity of a devil.” Namjoon let out a painful laughter.

A tear escaped Seokjin’s eyes as he spoke, “He would definitely choose his pride over me. And I’m not even surprised. After all, it wasn’t the first time.”

“I’m sorry you couldn’t have the happily ever after with your family.” Namjoon said.

The other ‘Bulletproof’ boys joined the couple. They sat down quietly and enjoyed the sun rise. At a point, Taehyung asked Seokjin, “Are you going back to your mother now?”

Seokjin didn’t reply. Instead, he asked Hoseok, “Why aren’t you going back to the heaven?”

Hoseok shrugged and said, “There’s nothing to go back to. I’ve already found my true family here on earth.” He rested his head on Yoongi’s shoulder.

Seokjin looked back at Taehyung and smiled. “Exactly.” He whispered, which brought out the best box smile on Taehyung’s face.

“I want to say something.” Jungkook mumbled, “I don’t know if I can ever say this if not today.”

Everyone looked up at him as he slowly rose up to stand. He continued with a heavy voice, “As far as I can remember, I was just a vampire with thirst for blood only. I didn’t have a family or even friends. The only thing I cared about was surviving. I never knew how much I was missing out on life until… Until I met Jimin and Taehyung. They took me in as their own. Then, you guys showed up. I learned what it is to actually live and not just survive. I am eternally grateful to you for that.” He paused for a moment before adding, “I… I love you, guys.”

They looked at him in admiration. They had never heard Jungkook opening up about his feelings to them at any time throughout their times together. Hearing him speaking such words melted their hearts.

Jimin went straight to hug him, “I’m glad I’ve found you that night.” Taehyung joined from behind. Hoseok stood up and said, “Guys, my eyes are sweating. Help!” before going for the hug too. Yoongi tailed him from behind as well. Namjoon gestured Seokjin to join the group hug. Seokjin smiled and did as he was asked to.

Finally, it was Namjoon to join them last. As he did, he slowly spread out his huge black wings to shelter the members on the inside.

Note: Thank you to everyone for sticking with me till the end. Thank you for taking your precious time to read my story. Thank you for all the little feedbacks you had left. It means a lot to me. By the way, it was my first proper series. I finished it in a hurry due to an upcoming exam. And I am a little disappointed coz it didn’t come out as I’ve expected. But I hope to improve my writings in the future.

Sugar Fairy One Shot: Namjoon Handles JK's Rut

Story: Sugar Fairy, but can standalone as a one shot Characters: rutting bunny hybrid Jungkook x responsible hybrid owner Namjoon Length: 5033 words Warnings: explicit sexual content, hybrid universe, mxm, handjob, masturbation, so. much. cum., rutting, moral quandry, bi-questioning? or just supportive?, rutting, submissive JK

It wasn’t that Namjoon had never meant it when he offered to help Jungkook through his ruts. The offers had been sincerely made. He just hadn’t ever really thought through what it would mean if Jungkook said yes, because he always said no. Without ever talking about it, Jungkook had identified a hard line himself when it came to family. He insisted whole-heartedly that family was not where he wanted to turn for help with a rut, no matter how desperate he got. Which was good, because Namjoon had sisters, and even the entire family hadn’t felt confident about that line to never be crossed, the whole dynamic might have been different.

“I won’t die from it,” he always insisted, with big eyes and a trembling lip if he remembered how bad it could get. “But I don’t want to take advantage of pity and kindness…And I’d die if anyone in our family saw me like that…”

Not that there had ever been an issue when they were younger. Namjoon’s parents had modeled good hybrid care never making Jungkook feel ashamed of the suppressants he took, or the visits to the hybrid center when the suppressants weren’t enough for his adolescent hormones. Until he was of age, the help the centers gave was in the form of education and toys, and then later with the matchmaking for heat partners. He was never left to suffer; at the first signs of suppressants not working, he was whisked off to the center, no matter the last-minute expense.

Namjoon learned this process with care, knowing that he’d be responsible for making sure Jungkook’s needs were met once they stopped living at home. He knew the suppressants and when to take them and the off-brand names and tracked when refills were needed, since Jungkook wasn’t good at keeping up with that kind of thing. When they moved out, Namjoon made sure to visit the nearest hybrid centers before they needed them. Once he started making money, the hybrid centers knew he was a sucker for buying whatever toys they pushed on Jungkook when he came around for his occasional rut –a few a year too strong for normal suppressants was decidedly normal at his age. Whatever Jungkook wanted, Jungkook got. Even if it was multiple colors of the same pulsing fleshlight with a poofy washable bunny tail.

Namjoon was proud of being such a prepared hybrid owner/brother. Because it was true the lines were a little different between he and Jungkook than they were for many hybrid owners, who adopted someone much younger than them once they themselves were an adult. Jungkook had always believed himself to belong especially to Namjoon, and Namjoon believed Jungkook belonged especially to him, even when Jungkook was also considered just part of the whole family. They were brothers! But also not brothers, because Namjoon was older, and human, and sometimes Jungkook seemed even younger than his age. Namjoon knew that wasn’t uncommon for hybrids especially before they reached true breeding age, their life stages a little different than humans. Namjoon read books and watched TED Talks and took his role in Jungkook’s life very very seriously.

So why, why, why had he failed so badly this time?

Namjoon leaned against the door to the bedroom of the suite and felt sick at the pained noises coming from inside.

He had all the excuses.

He wasn’t used to traveling for work yet and had been so excited at the opportunity, and allowance to bring Jungkook too, that it had distracted him from his usual responsibilities.

It wasn’t the time of year when Jungkook’s ruts usually overpowered his suppressants so he hadn’t expected anything out of the ordinary.

He had packed Jungkook’s suppressants, he just didn’t realize Jungkook had stopped taking them because he thought they were making his face puffy.

He hadn’t bothered going to find a local hybrid center upon arrival because they were only going to be in London for a week.

He had believed Jungkook when the hybrid insisted he just wanted to ride out the symptoms in the bedroom and he’d be fine. “It’s not that bad,” Jungkook had insisted at the first signs and realization of what was coming. “Don’t worry about it.”

“It’s not that bad,” he’d insisted, already sweating and flushed and looking like he needed to vomit. That had been a day ago, long before he’d locked himself in the bedroom and begged Namjoon to never enter on pain of death.

He should have known Jungkook would ignore his own needs in favor of enjoying the trip until it was too late. He should have known Jungkook’s rut would be worse now that he was older since the last time he’d gone through one unassisted. He should have known even a nice hotel like this would have walls thin enough that neighbors called the desk to complain about the noise.

His body flushed with shame at the hiccup of despair from his hybrid who’d now been unseen in the bedroom for twenty-four hours. Namjoon had opened the door only once to pile in food and Jungkook had yelled at him to get out, but the heat and smell of the room had been overpowering. Namjoon had wisely slept on the couch and left Jungkook alone but…

But he couldn’t leave him alone forever. He couldn’t let him just suffer. It was his fault they’d gotten to this situation anyway.

“Jungkook? Hey man,” Namjoon called at the door, knowing Jungkook would hear him standing there anyway. “I’m going to come in, ok?”

He couldn’t hear Jungkook’s groaned, “No, hyung, don’t…” until he’d cracked the door.

“How are you doing?”

“Fine.” The whine, the way his voice cracked, the way Jungkook was nothing more than a dark lump in the center of a blanket nest on the bed, it all said the opposite. The curtains were closed, no lights on, bathroom door closed. The air was stale and heavy with a scent beyond anything Namjoon had been in before.

Namjoon clicked a light on and Jungkook whined and turned his face away. His whole naked body twitched as Namjoon came closer, dark hair and years draped across the white pillows. Usually his hybrid was so shy about nudity but now he just lay there, everything on display. It was impossible not to notice Jungkook’s swollen dick twitching against his stomach, such a dark red shade it was almost purple. It looked painful. Namjoon shifted uncomfortably, feeling sympathy pains in his own crotch. It was strange to see, even beyond this display of unabashed nudity from his hybrid who was usually so shy about it. It was strange to see a dick that at once looked so sensitive but also somehow called to mind a painful need that he was sadly familiar with, having no girlfriend in recent history: the desperation for touch, for relief. Maybe his own had never been that bad but he could feel it now, like an echo of Jungkook’s.

“...so close…” Jungkook murmured. He shivered, his skin clammy and red under the harsh yellow light of the lamp.

“What’s so close?” Namjoon asked but Jungkook didn’t respond. “Hey I found a hybrid center nearby. I’m going to call our place at home and have them fax your records over and then they’ll let you check in– I already talked to them about it–”

“No.” Jungkook’s head thrashed on the pillow. “No, so close… I can’t move…” He said something too quietly. Namjoon had to lean close, nose wrinkling as his hand touched a damp pillow. No way of knowing whether it was sweat or cum, both which soaked the blanket nest Jungkook had made for himself.

“I can… carry you,” Namjoon offered.

“No, no, so close…. Just… just a little more… I’m so close,” he said, voice laced with pleas. His eyes were closed and tears began to squeeze out from the corners of his eyes. The tracks caught the light.

“You’re almost done?” Namjoon asked. Jungkook nodded, the motions sharp and jerky, like he wasn’t in total control of his body. Namjoon tried not to look down at the way the motion traveled down Jungkook’s body like a shiver, ending with his dick bouncing, but it was hard to miss. Thin cum dribbled from the tip, a gossamer string of it drawn to just beneath Jungkook’s naval. Thicker cum dried across his lower abdomen, flaking, congealed, just a mess.

“Would a shower help? We could wash off–”

“No,” Jungkook wailed, and curved suddenly like his hips were trying to thrust his dick up into something –or someone– who wasn’t there.

“Are you sure you’re almost–”

“Just…. More… please, hyung…”

Namjoon froze, entire body made of stone.

Was Jungkook asking him to…

Jungkook’s arms twitched like he was trying to lift them but they went nowhere. Jungkook, gym bunny, practically made of muscle, and his arms and legs were noodles. How much had he jacked off?! Namjoon refused to look too closely at the sheets, afraid he’d start to calculate how much cum had already been expelled from Jungkook’s body, and yet still his balls were stuffed to the point of pain.

“JK…”

“Sorry, sorry hyung, you don’t have to… sorry.” The burst of words after everything else was so strained made clear the embarrassment cutting through it all. It called on things deeper in Namjoon than embarrassment.

Jungkook was desperate.

Jungkook was in pain.

He was exhausted dealing with this on his own because Namjoon had gotten too excited about his own job and forgotten his responsibilities to his hybrid.

He loved Jungkook as much or more than he loved himself, and that love was definitely stronger than embarrassment or discomfort.

“Hey, it’s ok. Look, if you want me to uh… to help you, you can say that. I can do that. That’s… fine. It’s fine,” Namjoon said, trying and failing to sound confident. “We’re just people with bodies and it doesn’t have to be any different than when you took care of me that time I had the stomach bug–”

“It wasn’t a bug, you partied too hard,” Jungkook forced out.

“Ok well see, point stands… uh…”

“It’s ok, hyung, it’s not the same…” Jungkook turned his face away. He still hadn’t opened his eyes, not once, and his chest was heaving with sobs he clearly tried to bite back.

“Do you want me to…”

“It’s ok…”

“Look I don’t mind helping you but I don’t want to do something you don’t want me to do,” Namjoon blurted out, driven by the pain in his stomach over seeing Jungkook like this. “I need you to be really clear. Do you want me to uh, touch you? I mean your uh… your dick. Just to be clear about it,” Namjoon said. Be direct. Be mature. He’s your hybrid, don’t make him feel ashamed about this. That’s what he’d read in all the literature, so why was he being such a wuss now about putting it into practice? It was just a dick. He had one too! “Do you want me to jack you off?”

The whimpered response wasn’t a clear enough answer for Namjoon. Jungkook twisted like he was going to curl onto his side, but he went nowhere. His dick bounced and a few more beads of cum oozed out.

“You have to answer me. I don’t want to–”

“Yes. Yes, hyung… yes, anything… please… just make it stop, it hurts so bad…”

Shy, careful Jungkook so desperate– it was breaking Namjoon’s heart. He hated himself right now for letting this happen. He clung to that through his own embarrassment as he awkwardly sat on the edge of the bed.

“Ok uh… I’ve never um… I’ve never done this to another guy so– but it’s fine,” he said, as if he could sense Jungkook’s sensitivity to any glimpse of embarrassment on his part. “New life skill. I’ll figure it out, just… uh… communicate. Tell me if something is wrong or–”

“Yah, hyung…”

“Or if you want me to do something different…”

Namjoon looked around for the bottle of lube he knew Jungkook would have had; it lay tipped over on the nightstand, empty except for a dollop smeared on the woodgrain. Namjoon scooped it up before realizing it wasn’t lube, not entirely, but– well, it was enough. It would work. And he was just going to have to not be bothered by someone else’s cum right now because, well, it was everywhere.

Namjoon approached his task as methodically as he could, smearing the lube across his hands before carefully grasping Jungkook’s dick as he would a sore wrist. Except Jungkook hissed, his chest lifting from the bed as more dribbly precum leaked out –enough precum to make up for the deficit in lube. Definitely more precum than Namjoon’s own cock leaked, no matter how hard he was. Hybrid in rut thing apparently…

Namjoon dragged his hand loosely down Jungkook’s dick, gentler than he would handle his own. Even at the light tough, Jungkook whimpered and gasped, hips twitching as his hands fisted in the sheets.

“Harder… hyung–”

“OK ok I just don’t want to hurt you,” Namjoon said, calmly, gently, in total contrast to the way Jungkook whined as Namjoon slid his palm around the swollen, leaky head to gather more of the precum.

“You won’t.” Jungkook’s voice cracked but there was a solidity to it that hadn’t been there a moment ago.

Namjoon shifted on the bed so he could use both hands, wrapping them around Jungkook’s dick and trying not to compare it to his own. He wasn’t sure it would be a favorable comparison right now. It wasn’t like he’d never seen Jungkook naked before, not in a situation like this, but bunking together, sharing a shower house at summer camp, whatever. This was not what Jungkook had been packing back then. Jungkook back then had been upset to be smaller, embarrassed to be a bunny, but apparently Jungkook was now… a rabbit.

Yah, was this too much to be thinking about?! He tried to focus instead on nothing.

The way Jungkook trembled as Namjoon twisted his hands and gripped tighter pulled him back from the nostalgia of summer camps gone by. One of Jungkook’s legs moved, knee bending away as if to give Namjoon more room to work. He squeezed at the base of Jungkook’s dick and dragged up this time. It was like pulling a metal flashlight that had been left on too long and was overheated, just on the verge of burning your palm.

The cry Jungkook let out must have been audible through the hotel walls. At first Namjoon pulled his hands away, convinced he’d just broken his hybrid.

“No, hyung, hyung more– don’t–”

He quickly returned his hands and Jungkook cried out and bucked his hips upwards, fucking himself into Namjoon’s hands. Another string of whimpery cries came out and–

Well, if Namjoon was honest deep within the recesses of his mind… it was kind of cool. It was kind of cool to touch someone and have them react so strongly. He’d never heard Jungkook make these noises before –or anyone for that matter. This was apparently more pleasure than he’d ever given a woman… damn.

He knew a thing or two about yanking his own dick, obviously, and began to apply those now, experimenting to see what would make Jungkook lift off the bed like that. It was less strange to him when he approached it that way, like a backrub just in a private place. Twisting both hands around and around through the lube, up and down, faster and faster certainly did the trick. Jungkook’s broken cries and incoherent words were the only warning Namjoon had before Jungkook’s muscles all clenched at once. Cum erupted like a pot boiling over, not with force but with volume. The sticky white fluid ran over his fingers and down to Jungkook’s stomach and thighs as his body twitched, every muscle still strained as though he was trying to hold himself still.

“Please,” Jungkook whimpered, “More… it’s more… so good, it’s so good, hyung…” He drew in a deep, gasping breath like he hadn’t had oxygen for hours but was getting closer to the surface.

Pulling away would be a mess Namjoon wasn’t prepared to deal with yet anyway, so he just kept going. Any sensitivity Jungkook felt at still having active hands dragging around his dick were lost among the noises and motions he’d already been making. It was impossible to tell whether it was good or bad or too good. Namjoon scraped the cum from his knuckles onto the sheets if it got in his way but otherwise slowed his hands to work it up again, the cycle of rest, build, release.

“Is slow good at all?” he asked, slipping his palm around and around the head.

“...s’ good,” Jungkook murmured, mouth hanging open in absolute surrender.

Now they’d come this far, Namjoon found the shakness had left his motion. Why shouldn’t he give a handjob to his poor hybrid when he was rutting and miserable? It was just care like anything else except private in nature. It wasn’t like they were fucking, he was just… just performing a service. He wanted to be a good hybrid owner, so he wanted to be good at this too. There was a point of pride to it, honestly.

“Ok, what about this?” he asked, making a tight circle with his thumb and forefinger and fucking it quickly down over the ridge while his other squeezed and twisted more slowly at the base.

“Yes yes yes,” Jungkook panted, more cum gushing out as he slid into another anguished cry. Did orgasm hurt right now? Was it pain and pleasure combined? Namjoon was curious… and secretly a little jealous. He wanted to cum that hard someday! At least once in his life.

He cleared his throat and muttered, “Fuck, there’s really a lot in there… no wonder it hurts…”

“It hurts,” Jungkook parroted, breaking off into a throaty moan as Namjoon closed his hands and pumped his whole dick up and down, trying to work out the rest of that orgasm since there hadn’t been as much. His whole dick was still so rigid though. Without even thinking about it, Namjoon scooped his balls up because that’s what he would have done on his own body and worked those into the rub down. The cries Jungkook gave as more cum fountained from the head, more forcefully now, actually made Namjoon shudder. It shocked him into stillness as Jungkook suddenly bucked roughly against his hand. He really wasn’t into guys in any way he’d ever thought of but damn, it was kinda hot, wasn’t it? Or only because he wanted his dick to do that?

“AH, sorry, hyung, sorry fuck!” Jungkook cried, wrapping his hands around Namjoon’s to hold them tight as he jackrabbited through them. The cries, the way Jungkook’s sweat-shiny body curved and bucked, there was something intimately beautiful about it, ropes of cum dashing across his stomach and chest. Broken curses fell from his lips before crackling off into wordless whimpers and gasps. He grabbed and squeezed his own thighs as his back arched off the bed and his knees bent away and Namjoon felt like he was witnessing Jungkook’s entire soul drain out through his dick.

He’d done that to Jungkook.

Honestly, he felt pretty fucking smug about it.

Jungkook’s breathy whines leveled out as he collapsed back against the pillows, red chest heaving. One arm draped over his face.

Fuck, there was so much cum. Namjoon stared with shock at what seemed like an alarming amount. He had always thought he cummed a little too much but by comparison…

Speaking of comparisons…. Jungkook’s dick settled against his stomach. Namjoon let his hands hover in the air, looking Jungkook over to try and understand where they were at right now. It didn’t look like Jungkook’s dick was going soft yet but maybe it took time? He honestly had no fucking clue anymore.

“Is that uh… is there any more?” he asked, not totally sure what he was even asking. There could not possibly be any more cum in that dude’s body.

Jungkook didn’t say anything. His breathing was still labored though not as bad as before. He wasn’t whimpering anymore, which seemed like an improvement. But he still had his arm over his face and he still wouldn’t look at Namjoon, and there was the matter of the still-hard dick.

“Little bit more?” Namjoon asked, trying to sound casual. “You can tell me, Jungkooka.” He hesitated, wondering how reassuring he needed to be in a situation like this. “I want you drained so you’re comfortable and relaxed.”

“Hyung…”

“I’m in this with you now,” Namjoon added. “No reason to get shy on me now. If I keep going, think I can get a little more out of you or are you done? I don’t want to hurt you.” Namjoon tried not to listen to his own words. Would Jungkook think he was being too much? He was very much not trying to dirty talk Jungkook, just put him at ease, but the whole situation had him a little dazed himself. No one in their right fucking mind could listen to the noises Jungkook was making and not feel it in their gut, especially when they were the one massaging those noises out.

Embracing the mess, Namjoon shifted one more time, settling between Jungkook’s bent legs. He pressed his hands along Jungkook’s thighs and rubbed up towards his crotch, as if there might be hidden stores of cum in there. He rubbed Jungkook’s lower belly, scraping the puddles of cum out of the way and dragging his fingers against Jungkook’s muscles down south. He scooped Jungkook’s balls again, thumbs pressing around the expanse of skin behind them, not quite all the way to Jungkook’s asshole, though for a second he thought prostate…

He wouldn’t go there unless he really needed to. For now, Jungkook’s shuddery breath seemed sufficient. He rubbed and squeezed along these paths again, trying to drag any last tension towards Jungkook’s dick –hard but less concerning of a color now. He felt more competent now, grabbing and sliding. He wished there was more lube because the cum was drying but–

Well, make do. He leaned forward and spit a few times to add moisture back in. That worked nicely and let his hands glide around with ease.

Jungkook had removed his arm from his face, Namjoon noticed. He didn’t comment on it. He could see Jungkook’s dark eyes watching through narrowed slits, like he wouldn’t be noticed. A rough yank made Jungkook’s eyes squeeze shut as a pleasured croak choked from deep in his chest.

“Think I’m getting pretty good at this,” Namjoon muttered to himself proudly. He slid his hand back down beneath Jungkook’s balls, pressing to see if he could still do the prostate thing without suggesting a thumb in his hybrid’s asshole. Jungkook’s hands unfurled from his body like limp spaghetti. The words he said were incoherent but sounded like they were supposed to mean something. “Good, huh? Had a girl do this to me once and it was just like–”

“Shhh.”

Namjoon actually laughed at the shushing but obeyed the request. Probably Jungkook wanted to pretend it was a pretty hybrid girl doing this to him and not have Namjoon’s deep voice break the immersion. He felt the muscles tighten beneath his touch and watched the trembles dash across Jungkook’s flushed skin. Namjoon’s knuckle slid beneath Jungkook’s balls as his other hand pumped Jungkook’s dick from tip to base, slow and tighter. Jungkook’s leg twitched, his foot jerking almost rhythmically with the stroke of his knuckle.

“Ah, there… bet this will be a deep one,” Namjoon murmured. Jungkook licked his lips but seemed to forget halfway through and just let his mouth hang open. It felt good, Namjoon knew, and was glad Jungkook could finally have some relief after struggling with this for almost two days now. “Yeah, just let it build,” Namjoon said, squeezing a little harder at the base during each stroke. “Hold it in until–”

“Hyung,” Jungkook whined. “Just–”

“Ok ok I’ll be quiet.” Namjoon sighed, but Jungkook couldn’t see. He was just getting into it, ok? He wanted to make sure this was the orgasm to end all orgasms for Jungkook and it could finally break his rut fever and let him enjoy the rest of the trip and assuage Namjoon’s guilt about the whole thing.

Jungkook’s muscles started to relax. Namjoon wasn’t sure what to take that to mean, but Jungkook hadn’t told him to stop, and his balls were still swollen and hot and his dick was still twitching, so Namjoon kept palming it. The low noise Jungkook let out almost sounded like a pur; he was just relaxing into it, Namjoon realized. Namjoon worked his hands harder, trying to orchestrate every touch and stroke.

Gradually he increased the tempo and pressure of his hands. Jungkook’s breaths began to fall apart again, rhythm lost. The sighs turned into strained gasps. His eyebrows pinched and he reached up his hand, fingers looking for purchase on a cloth headboard that wouldn’t give him any. He grabbed the pillow instead, and one ear.

“Ah ah ah ah,” he whimpered, tone rising. He pressed his hips down into the bed, tensing beneath Namjoon’s touch.

Namjoon bit his tongue not to praise him as Jungkook suddenly let out a deep, low strangled groan. Cum squeezed from his dick, milked with every stroke of Namjoon’s fist. He traded his hands over each other, stroking stroking stroking, keeping the motion going to drain every last drop. The strangled noise from Jungkook didn’t even sound human and Namjoon felt a deep envy; he wanted to feel whatever caused that noise. Jungkook’s whole body twisted, like it too was wringing itself out. The cum changed consistency, thinner now, spurts instead of a rush, and then nothing.

Namjoon stroked several more times until suddenly Jungkook’s hand reached forward. He cried out as he pushed Namjoon’s hands away. For a moment they both just existed, frozen in place.

Finally Jungkook licked his cracked lips and opened his eyes to slits and groaned out, “I think it’s done… so tired… ah…. Ah, I can breathe…”

“Ok. Good. uh… get some sleep then and shower and then, uh… I’ll see you for dinner maybe or something…”

Namjoon paused but when Jungkook curled onto his side and tucked into the blankets again, he moved out of the way. Already Jungkook looked less flushed and his breathing was calmer, so Namjoon thought he was probably right, it was over. Was it thanks to Namjoon, or were they up against the clock anyway?

Namjoon decided to be proud of himself anyway as he rose from the bed and flexed his stiff, sticky fingers. His arms and hands were coated in cum, some dribble across his pant leg too where he’d been in range. His back was stiff from hunching over. He felt uncomfortable in his own skin and so went straight to the bathroom, stripping down just outside the shower as the water warmed.

It meant something to him that his own dick didn’t get hard until he’d stepped under the water. For him, it gave him the level removed he wanted to feel ok about what he’d just done for his hybrid and sort-of brother. He’d lent a helping hand, that was all, but once his skin was clean and the warm water relaxed his muscles, the concept of pleasure awakened his own body to a need for touch. He felt powerful to draw that pleasure from someone else, even a guy, and he would have liked someone in the shower with him now to return the favor but, alas, it was up to himself.

He didn’t cum quite as good as he’d made Jungkook but good enough. At least it put a cap on his afternoon, unexpected as it had been

***

Jungkook wound up sleeping until the next morning. Namjoon sat on the sofa he’d been sleeping on, eating cereal as he watched British cartoons before he’d need to head to work. He heard the bedroom door open for the first time but only glanced in Jungkook’s direction as the younger man shuffled forward and sat heavily beside him on the couch.

“Hyung…”

“How are you feeling?” Namjoon asked, taking the initiative with his casual greeting.

Jungkook just nodded and looked down at the ground, ears curled forward and practically over his face as he said quietly, “I’m sorry you had to get involved… I was really desperate…”

“Yeah, I know,” Namjoon assured him. “I’m sorry I let it get like this… I haven’t been paying enough attention with the new job and–”

“It’s my fault. I’m an adult, I should be able to take care of myself, you shouldn’t have to–”

“Well I did, and if you’re feeling better, it was worth it.”

“Can we uh…” Namjoon waited for him to find the courage to ask whatever was on his mind, “Can we never talk about it again?”

Namjoon laughed and nodded, “Yeah, man, we can forget it ever happened. No problem. But don’t feel bad about it, ok? I’d take a bullet for you.”

“Yeah but…”

“I’m just saying. But we don’t have to say anything about it again,” Namjoon assured him, and clapped a hand on him.

“Thanks, hyung.”

“Mm-hm.”

“And hyung… ah… you’re going to take really good care of someone someday…”

Namjoon’s face erupted into a grin as he stammered out, “Thanks, Jungkook. I look forward to it. You too.”

“I didn’t do anything. I just lay there and–”

“Maybe you’ll find a girl who likes that.”

“No girl likes that.”

“Don’t be so sure. Anyway, looks like you showered, are you planning to go with me today?”

“Yeah. Back to normal. Nothing weird going on here.”

“Yep. All’s good,” Namjoon assured him and went to put his dishes in the kitchenette, glad to have Jungkook back.

Over The Falls Ch. 2: Bomb

“You’re pursing your lips!” Taro called back to Jungkook. His attempts to unpurse them failed beneath his glare; he pursed them tighter, then squeezed his eyes shut accidentally while trying to relax his lips. Thinking about it all caused him to drag the rhythm and Yoongi abruptly stopped.

“Fuck off,” Jungkook scowled at Taro. “Who cares what my mouth is doing when I’m not singing?”

“I care, it doesn’t look cool.”

“Well stop looking back at me and you won’t see it. The audience is that way,” Jungkook said, pointing with his stick to the front of the garage where Taehyung, Jimin, Hoseok, and Corri chilled with beers on cheap folding chairs. They weren’t paying any attention to the rehearsal, certainly not to anything Jungkook’s face was doing behind the drums.

“Yeah but–”

“No one cares what his fucking face does,” Soyoon agreed with him. “They care whether he nails that tricky rhythm.”

“Thank you–”

“If he looks like a muppet, so what?”

Jungkook’s grateful grin slid into a scowl. Soyoon smiled.

Yoongi’s voice sounded equally as deceptively supportive as he suggested, “Maybe more like a tarsier.”

“I was thinking tree frog,” Taehyung called over.

“You’re all fucking assholes,” Jungkook huffed and did a run on the drums as loud as he could as punishment. They were unfortunately unbothered. As unbothered as they should have been about whatever concentration face he made as he drummed. They had no idea the coordination and focus it required!

“Don’t listen to them,” Hoseok insisted as soon as the cacophony died down. “You’re handsome no matter what face you make, that’s why they’re being like that. They’re jealous. You look so cool when you drum, you’re stealing the show.”

It was too over the top. Jungkook sighed and let his head hang as his friends got their laughs out.

“What? What did I say?” Hoseok mumbled as Jimin patted his arm and shushed him. Hoseok was the only one of their group to say something like that and mean it sincerely, but no one could take it seriously. Alas.

“Let’s just take it from the top,” Yoongi said. “Last song of the night and I’m out.”

“Out? Why out? We’re performing this weekend,” Taro instantly argued. Jungkook saw the twitch of Yoongi’s lips, only the faintest sign he ever showed that he was annoyed.

“Yeah, so we had the extra rehearsal.”

“I just want us to do well,” Taro insisted. “This isn’t a normal performance. It’s a competition.”

Jungkook couldn’t help the snicker, “For Aughts Coverbands. It’s not that deep, Taro, you don’t have to be a bitch about my face.”

“Gee, can’t imagine why you can’t get laid lately.”

“The fuck do you know about it? I can get laid whenever I–” Jungkook sputtered. Really? She had to say that right in front of Corri?!

Soyoon sighed noisily, “We all know you want to win, we all know Junky can get laid, can we just do it already?” God he hated that nickname, if anyone besides Soyoon called him that he’d lose his shit, but somehow she’d always been able to use it as a hook to draw him back. He rolled his eyes at her, as expected, and she grinned and thumbed a line on the bass.

“Winning is fun,” Taro huffed. “I thought at least Jungkook would agree with me.”

“You’re talking shit about my face! We aren’t going to lose because of my face!”

“Only when you purse your lips like that.”

“I’m just concentrating.”

“You’re supposed to make it look effortless.”

“You wanna drum?” he asked, standing from the stool and holding the sticks out. She rolled her eyes and looked away. She’d once tried to pick it up and failed miserable, she lacked the coordination and muscle for it. And Jungkook had taken the high road and not teased her (too bad) about it. Her inability to play any instrument didn’t matter; she was a kickass lead vocalist and frontwoman, even though she sucked before any performance she deemed important. Yeah, Jungkook wanted to do well in a competition, obviously, but it wasn’t supposed to be a source of stress. They were a mostly-covers band, not some music act out to change the world. It was just supposed to be fun. Jungkook had managed to calm down the hyper-competitive streak of his younger days and wasn’t interested in getting all wrapped up in it again.

“I’m just trying to help you get laid,” she mumbled.

“Why are you so worried whether he’s getting laid?” Taehyung asked, just as loudly as before, as if Corri hadn’t already heard all of this. Corri, one of the women uninterested in laying him despite their past lays.

“I’m not. I just think he seems frustrated.”

“Yeah because our vocalist keeps talking shit about my concentration face.”

Yoongi started to play the chorus, a not-so-subtle sign he was bored with the bickering banter.

“Yeah I’m frustrated but not about… whatever, just play the song,” Jungkook huffed. Corri’s obvious avoidance of looking in his direction suddenly embarrassed him, when he usually could shrug off teasing no problem. He didn’t care that Corri didn’t want to fuck anymore, it wasn’t like they had been a thing, it just was embarrassing for someone you weren’t a thing with to tell you they wanted to be even less of a thing… Suddenly he wondered if Corri and Taro had been talking about him….

Before anyone (Taro) could escalate further, Soyoon scolded, “Elizabeth. Sing the damn song so I’m not late to teaching.”

Taro —real name Elizabeth– scowled in Soyoon’s direction this time and Jungkook settled back onto his stool. He flexed his fingers and cracked his neck to get ready for the final run-through of all three songs they would play at the competition: “Misery Business” by Paramore, “All Around You” by Flyleaf, and “The Real Mothers” by Screaming Females. Jungkook could have done without Flyleaf but Taro had gotten to choose the final song after a cutthroat tournament of rock-paper-scissors. Granted, Jungkook would have preferred to cover at least one male-led song, but he wasn’t going to go there.

Instead he did his best to keep his face neutral and un-pinched as he played, his best effort to be above reproach. Yoongi was who he cared more about impressing though; Taro was a great vocalist but when it came to musical talent, Yoongi was their lead with Soyoon not far behind. The two of them wrote and composed all their original stuff and did the arrangements for their covers. The two of them could have gone pro, really, but they had their reasons for being in this hobby band, just like Taro did, just like Jungkook did.

Fun. It was all supposed to be fun.

Usually he liked rehearsal, but Taro was right about one tiny thing: he was frustrated. But it wasn’t about sex! Or at least not about his sex. It was about a particular video sitting on his phone that he had no fucking clue what to do about. He had hoped to ask Yoongi what he thought but then felt stupid about it as they kicked off rehearsal and there wasn’t any time afterwards. As soon as the set was done, Soyoon and Yoongi both split for their evening gigs.

Taro’s face went through a tornado of emotions before she finally put her hands on Jungkook’s shoulders and said, “Sorry. Your face is fine. I just want us to look good but I didn’t mean to be a dick about it.”

“Whoever you have coming to the show isn’t going to fuck or not fuck you because of what my face does.”

She growled, “Come on, I apologized. Don’t be a shit.” But it was allowed. That’s how things were between them, had been for the ten years they’d known each other since their first pick up performances as teens, back when she was just Beth and not the artist known as Taro. He grinned and she pinched his cheek and that was the end of it; she and Corri disappeared with only a backward wave.

Jungkook expected to be on his own for the last bit of cleanup but Jimin and Taehyung and Hoseok shuffled around the garage helping with it. They’d done their best to waterproof the garage but after a leak had come a little too close to an amp, Jungkook was too nervous to leave anything of value on the ground ever again. He’d built a shaky wooden platform for his kit, made sure all the cables and amps were on shelves and hooks against the windowless wall, and kept the other instruments inside the house. Yoongi’s garage had been nicer and at the top of a hill but after his neighbors called the cops on them twice, they’d moved to Jungkook’s garage. His neighbors didn’t give a shit; everyone was noisy here. They usually played with the door open anyways because it got hot as fuck in there with only a couple fans and sometimes people would sit out on their porches to listen. Jimin had the great idea of adding an air conditioner but with what fucking money? Someday. Maybe with the prize money if they won the competition! The 2000s were the worst decade of music as far as Jungkook was concerned, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t win…

He felt the stirrings of ambition and squashed it.

“Paramore and Flyleaf,” he mumbled as Jimin and Taehyung sang lyrics over each other while they looped cables.

“What’s wrong with Paramore?” Hoseok asked. “Besides that you’re too young to remember them.”

“I’m not too young. I remember “Ain’t It Fun,” that album. And I remember these songs! I like them. The drumming is good, and they’re good for Taro’s voice.”

“But… you’d rather be playing something else?”

“I just don’t like the competitions,” he admitted. “I’d rather be doing our usual set for our usual stage. No stress, no worries–”

“Yeah you don’t like it because you’re a sleeping competitive asshole,” Jimin snickered.

Jungkook looked around for anything left down as he demanded, “What does that mean, sleeping?”

“It means you want everything to think you’re chill. Surfer life, ya?” Jimin teased, making two shaka gestures. His mockery was idiotic considering he surfed almost as much as Jungkook did, although he hadn’t gone as much lately. Work. “We’ve known you too long. We know you like to crush the competition.”

“Nah, man, that’s not me anymore.”

Jimin and Taehyung shared a look. Jungkook backhanded Taehyung in the stomach because he was closest, then motioned for them to get out so he could drag the garage door closed. The clicker had been broken for a while and every time one of them tried to fix it, it just broke again. Handymen they were not despite their best efforts, Jungkook in particular. He just didn’t have the knack for it, so he was learning, that was all. Their landlord didn’t have to be such a shitbag about his attempts gone awry. If he’d just call the fucking plumber or contractor or whatever it was on time, Jungkook wouldn’t have to take matters into his own hands! Or worse, Taehyung or Jimin went after it.

“What are we doing for dinner?” Taehyung asked as they kicked their shoes off by the back door. Jungkook ignored the question, assuming it was intended for Jimin or Hoseok, or at least not him. Briefly looking at his phone with the thought of delivery –followed by the painful reminder of his bank account– nudged his attention back to the video. The video. The one currently living in the Recently Deleted folder on his phone, chilling in limbo for 30 days until he either restored it or let his phone delete it for good. He felt no closer to making a decision on what to do with it. Forget he knew this and let it disappear? Give it to Mrs. Birch because she deserved to know she was married to an epic dipshit?

“JK?”

“Yeah episode four, I don’t know.”

“Huh?”

“Are we talking about what to watch?”

“What show are you even talking about?” Jimin laughed at him. “We’re talking about food! Dinner!”

“Oh. Uh…”

Taehyung snickered and nudged him with an elbow as he passed through the door, “He’s thinking about the video.”

“Grossss.”

“I’m not— I’m not thinking about the video,” Jungkook argued. It was a lie; they could tell it was a lie. He didn’t appreciate their joke of making it sound like he was thinking-thinking about it, rather than stressing about it. Stressing wasn’t his style.

“Just delete it, man,” Taehyung said. “You don’t need some guy’s nut on your phone. No offense to the gays in the room.”

“None taken, I don’t want some asshole’s nut on my phone either,” Jimin snickered.

“Yeah but….”

Jimin, still grinning, countered, “Stop being a puss and just tell the wife what you found. She deserves to know and once she’s done being heartbroken, she’ll appreciate it,” Jimin countered. “Maybe a lot.” He wiggled his eyebrows. Jungkook deeply regretted having drunkenly shared a Mrs. Birch fantasy with Jimin just one time, which Jimin would now never ever forget.

Their “advice” was too much like teasing. It didn’t feel serious and had already put him in a bad mood when they first acted like this when he told them yesterday. Not everything was a joke. He wanted to live like that too, sure! But he had a real moral conflict here and he didn’t appreciate them making it sound like he was getting some kind of sick pleasure –either out of having a fucking porn video of that spaghetti-dick Tim or of hoping to get into Mrs. Birch’s good graces as a hero. He didn’t feel like this was heroic. He felt like a fucking creep to have taken it in the first place. He felt like it was infecting his phone. He felt like he was holding a bomb that was going to blow up a marriage and really hurt a good person.

Not that he really knew her and whether she was a good person. For all he knew she had Nice White Lady Syndrome for “the Help” and was an entitled privileged bitch elsewhere. She’d married that fucker, after all, so she had to be like into that kind of guy and lifestyle and all that. Maybe she had her side pieces too, for all he knew! And it just wasn’t him! He didn’t want to insert himself into what could be a really sick, fucked up marriage.

“What if the dude comes after me?” he mused. He flopped down on the couch, instantly comforted by the broken-in cushion that nearly swallowed him. “He could get me fired. Sue me. Ruin my life. I dunno.”

“For exposing his cheating?” Taehyung’s face crinkled up. “Then we fuck him up.”

“He’s rich.”

Jimin tapped his chin and pointed out, “Ah, it’s true, it probably wasn’t legal for you to take that video, right?”

“Huh?”

“You filmed a guy having sex in his own house,” Jimin said. “I just mean… having the video is probably a risk. You should either pass it along or get rid of it, but only if you know the wife won’t turn on you. Rich people… you gotta be careful with them.”

“She…” Jungkook started to say she wouldn’t… but he didn’t know. He didn’t actually know her at all. And now Jimin and Taehyung were making him more scared than guilty. He couldn’t get sued. He didn’t have money! He didn’t have time for court. And his family wouldn’t be able to handle the shame. Who would watch Max when Yoojin got called into work without warning? Who would help his dad set up literally any new electronic device or go grocery shopping with his mom so she didn’t have to carry all the bags into the house because Yoojin was busy with Max and his dad worked a lot and Haewon didn’t live at home anymore? His parents needed him more than ever now, he couldn’t go to jail just because he was trying to do something “good” for a woman he didn’t even know! A thing she probably wouldn’t even appreciate!

He turned to Hoseok, hoping for some meaningful insight from him. Hoseok was a few years older and easily the most mature, experienced person in the house right now. Aside from his choice in dating Jimin, he tended to demonstrate good taste and clear judgment. Jimin and Taehyung could be hit or miss on their advice but Hoseok had a knack for people. Jungkook rebelled at their stirring of the pot, making him so nervous. He wasn’t a nervous guy. There had to be an easy, simple solution.

But Hoseok, who hadn’t said a word this whole time, nor when Jungkook first stupidly told these guys about the video two days ago, just read from his phone, “Kalasha is doing a free delivery special to celebrate the new restaurant. Chicken? Egg sandwiches?”

“Yeah, chicken!” Taehyung quickly agreed. Jungkook understood: they were done talking about this, and he sure wasn’t going to be the needy baby demanding more advice that he didn’t even appreciate. He was both relieved and annoyed. This was his mess. He had to figure this out on his own. But he could have used some good advice.

“Egg sandwich,” he said. “Is there one with chicken too? I’m gonna hit the gym later tonight and surf in the morning so I need that protein, yo!” There, Jungkook back to himself, and his friends readily accepted it.

Over The Falls Ch. 2: Bomb

The crash of the waves against the shore drowned out all else. Early mornings had a cool humidity to them, leaving a cold sweaty feeling on Jungkook’s skin, his hair wild and crunchy from the salt. The warm water lapped his ankles, sand sucking out from beneath his toes as the water swirled and then retreated, only to be overrun by the next impatient wave. It was a beautiful morning to be out, perfect surf conditions, beach not yet overrun by the tourists who would flock here once they’d finished their brunch and mimosas at the nearby resort.

Jungkook shook the wet hair out of his face and closed his eyes for a moment to enjoy the breeze off the water. The scent of salt and fish, sharp and pungent, was home to him. He breathed in deeply and tried to let everything else in the world sift from his mind. That was the beauty of surfing, it took all of you, for a brief time you were nothing but a fleck of energy carried by the water. That was what he liked about drumming too. He liked things that consumed him.

Surfing early in the morning had many advantages, when the tide worked out. Nice weather. Quieter beach. Fewer rookies.

“How’s the break, bro?” Carver asked, coming up behind and slapping him on the shoulder. Jungkook saw Missy trailing further up the beach, board perched on her head. He took his eyes off Hoseok only for a second to answer,

“Yeah, bomb breaks today.” He slapped Carver’s back in return. “You’re late for dawn patrol though, eh?”

Carver rolled his eyes, “Someone couldn’t get out of bed this morning.” He jerked his thumb at Missy. Jungkook’s eyebrows raised but he said nothing, knowing he’d be awkward. Carver and Missy had been dating a year now or something like it, and for at least a year before that Carver had trailed along behind her like a lovesick dickhead while Missy didn’t have the time of day for him. Jungkook had spent many a daybreak catching waves with her but she’d seemed unbothered by any of his attempts at flirting –until suddenly one day she took a liking to Carver and now they stayed up all night fucking so she couldn’t make it to the beach on time. Jungkook hated that he knew that. He was fine that she’d never given him a chance but he was bummed to see less of two people he enjoyed.

And also that they were just so happy together.

Fuck, he just knew too much about other people’s fuck lives without having one of his own to occupy his thoughts.

He gave a wave to Missy and headed out to the water just as Hoseok slid smoothly onto the beach. He sure didn’t let his bedmate keep him from catching those early breaks under the first streaks of light. His hair spiked and his smile glowed as he took those first heavy steps off the board and then immediately turned around to drag it back into the water a few yards behind Jungkook.

“I’ve only got time for one more,” he called, voice swallowed by the surf but Jungkook still heard and remembered he’d said that earlier, he had an earlier shift as a manager at the resort. It was a really demanding job, and he busted his ass. But he was still here! Unlike Taehyung. Jimin was practically a hodad at this point anyway so it didn’t really matter if he was here since he just distracted Hoseok anyway.

Jungkook walked until he had to glide and paddle. The sun was steadily heating up on his back but the water felt cool by comparison, drenching the thin fabric of his rash guard. He kept his eyes on the horizon where sea birds flitted and landed, and a couple fishing boats in the distance seemed to hover. Greenish fish darted beneath the shadow of his board. A shadow of a cloud passed over but otherwise the sky was clear and would no doubt be scorching later. Work was going to be hot today. He had three pools to clean, and then had promised Yoojin he’d take Max in the evening. She was being cagey as shit about why she needed the sitting, which probably meant she had a date and she knew very well how Jungkook felt about that. Yoojin’s taste in men was as shitty as her cooking. Max was the only good thing her ex had ever done in his life, and he wasn’t even still involved except for an occasional miniscule child-support check.

When he got far enough out, he straddled the board and waited as first one and then a second mushburger made him bob. Too gentle to ride. Sitting in the lull was peaceful though and gave Hoseok time to catch up. Jungkook breathed the breeze and watched his friend sit up several yards away. As the first one out, Jungkook had wave priority, but he knew Hoseok had somewhere to be.

“You want the next one?” he called.

“Nah bro, you’re first!”

“I can wait. I’m floating.”

“No no it’s fine, you first.”

“Eh…” Jungkook sighed as a totally surfable swell raised beneath them. Neither of them took it, just watched as it peeled. “Damn, would’ve been perfect.”

“Take it,” Hoseok insisted. “I can chill.”

Jungkook briefly considered it. Felt his muscles tense as another swell began to rise behind him. But being out here was soothing, and he felt tendrils dragging at his mind again that he wasn’t willing to face once he went back to shore. Out here he was nothing, nobody, just a piece of driftwood on the sea. Back on land, he had a job to do. The Birch pool was on his roster today, and he was no closer to figuring out what to do with the video in his trash folder. He closed his eyes and let his head fall back as the wave once again passed them and broke.

“Bro,” Hoseok called. “You ok?”

“What do I do about that video, man?” Jungkook sighed, shouting to be heard over the distance. “I just don’t know… I gotta face her today and what, know her husband is fucking around and that she probably doesn’t know? But damn I don’t want to be tied up in some rich person bullshit…”

Hoseok shook his head, “Yeah, you can’t get into that shit. Richies will rip you up, they don’t give a shit you were trying to do a good thing.” Of course, Hoseok saw lots of shitty rich people in his resort job. Jungkook had briefly worked there as a cabana boy too. He remembered. Oh boy, did he remember.

“Yeah but…” Jungkook sighed. They were all right. He knew they were right, and his family would give the same advice if he asked –which he wouldn’t, because he would never talk to his family about personal problems like that. They had enough of their own and he was the eldest now so it was his job to help them.

But he also just had this painful twist in his stomach at the idea of Mrs. Birch being married to that piece of shit. Probably the fucker was going to catch something and give it to her and that’s how she’d fine out. He’d get some other chick pregnant. She’d walk in on it and be traumatized. Maybe she was secretly as shitty as the rest but if she wasn’t, didn’t she deserve to know the kind of man she married? Since apparently she hadn’t already figured it out on her own? But it wasn’t Jungkook’s job to tell her…

“I see that look,” Hoseok laughed, splashing Jungkook to get his attention. “You want to do it. That’s why I don’t like to give you advice. You just do what you’re going to do anyway.”

“The thing is, I would want to know,” Jungkook said.

“You aren’t her. You should be worried about yourself. She doesn’t care about you.”

It hurt to hear. It was true. He didn’t like to hear it but appreciated the honesty.

“I know but… otherwise what, I keep cleaning their pool and keep knowing and don’t say anything? That’s not who I am. I want to be an honest person no matter what.”

“No matter what,” Hoseok laughed. “It’s admirable but sometimes not the best.”

Jungkook let out a noisy sigh.

And then had an idea.

“What if it’s not me that tells her?” he said, slowly turning his board after it drifted. “What if I just give her the video anonymously? Then she knows but no one knows it’s me.”

Hoseok’s face screwed up, “How would you even do that?”

“Burn a dvd. Leave it in her mailbox?”

“They probably have cameras all over the place. Or they’ll data mine the DVD or whatever…”

But Jungkook was onto something and he knew it. Fine, a USB stick, and he didn’t think it had to be that secure because he hadn’t seen anything that made him think either of the Birchs was that technically smart and they were going to have bigger things to worry about anyway, right? Like divorce. Divorce that would bring that piece of rich-ass shit to his dry, wrinkled knees.

“Nah bro, this will work!” Jungkook beamed. He felt an instant lightness swell within him that had nothing to do with the lift of another wave beneath the board. “Ya, ok, it’s a plan. Let’s get it!”

“Wait, but JK–”

“I’m taking this one!” he called, ignoring Hoseok’s concerns. There was no good path forward but this was the best one. Probably Mrs. Birch would be hurt but at least no one could trace it to him and he wouldn’t have to admit to her he’d been the one to record it and no one could sue him for what pennies he had to his name.

He caught the next wave, leaping to his feet at the lip of it as he drew in a deep, joyful breath. This was the best part. Flying. Adrenaline coursed through his body, just the right amount to make him feel like a beam of sunlight, the rough board beneath his feet the only thing left to ground him as he cut his board across clear water that sprayed in his face. No barrels big enough to pull into this morning but the drop left his heart thumping in his chest and his head spinning. Nothing beat the high of a bitchin’ ride.

Suddenly the wave closed out, sending Jungkook tumbling into the water. The slap to his chest left him winded but he surfaced only a moment after his board bobbed, tugging his ankle by the leash. He flipped his hair back and lifted his face to the sun as he swiped the salt water from his eyes. Didn’t matter that he’d grubbed it, the ride had been excellent until then. Grubbing it was just part of the game.

With a lighter heart and a clear mind, Jungkook sloshed his way to shore to put his plan into action.

Over The Falls Ch. 2: Bomb

The orange envelope was on the front porch when she got home that day, tucked between the storm door and the wooden door as if the mailman had dropped it off. They often did that, even though Tim had built a big stupid UV box for packages. She couldn’t blame the mailmen for not wanting to open the lid of a heavy-looking mysterious box just to leave her latest pantry tupperware from Amazon or Tim’s Razor of the Month club or whatever, despite the insistent sign. She tried to always be the one to bring the mail in so she wouldn’t have to listen to Tim rail about packages left on the ground. He worried about that kind of thing. He thought he was the kind of person important enough for someone to send Anthrax to in the mail.

She’d grabbed the envelope on her way out to get the mail from the box, and tossed it all onto the kitchen counter since Tim was out of town and not here to gripe at her for even briefly making a mess.

“It’s unfair of me to be so critical towards him,” she scolded herself as she looked in the fridge to see what the personal chef had left her for dinner. Tim had actually been very pleasant lately. He’d finally agreed they ought to redecorate the bedroom (as long as it stayed white and gray), praised the dinner she made on a day the chef didn’t come, greeted her with daiquiris after she’d been swimming and asked her about her day as he untied the strings of her bikini.

Look, she knew those things shuffled over a low bar when listed out of context. But the context was that he’d been working hard and stressed for a while now. The latest acquisition was so close to signing and he was sweating it but the fact he was making an effort even in the midst of that meant a lot to her. It reassured her that once they were to the other side of this period of work, things were going to even out again. Tim would go back to being a bit less of a cranky asshole. She would go back to feeling less resentful, a little more charitable about the moodswings of her hard-working husband who was doing his best to succeed in a cutthroat industry. He wanted to make a name for himself beyond what his own father had accomplished. She admired that.

While the oven preheated, she flipped through the mail, mostly junk. When she got to the envelope though, she realized it was just addressed to Mrs. Birch, no mailing address, no stamp.

Her first thought was that a friend must have dropped something off for her, only to instantly consider it would be really weird for them to address it to Mrs. Birch. None of her friends called her that.

A client? But she never gave her personal address to anyone she worked for, there was no need for it anyway, she just had things mailed to the office space she kept.

Maybe she had forgotten something somewhere? Her license would have her name and address on it, but the salutation of Mrs. would be odd because how would the person know she was married? Unless she dropped something and they googled her? Her address was supposed to be unlisted but people had ways of searching public records.

She tore the end of the envelope open and out tumbled a CD in a jewel case. Her brow furrowed. Certainly not something she owned and left somewhere. Nothing was printed on the CD. She checked inside the envelope for any evidence of marketing material and found a folded piece of paper with a printed sentence:

Your husband is not who you think he is. He’s a fucking asshole.

Grace’s blood ran cold.

Tim’s involved with something bad. That felt like the immediate and obvious thing. Tim worked in business and he was constantly trying to get ahead, always working upstream and feeling behind. It made sense that he might have taken what looked like help in a moment of difficulty and wound up in over his head with something. Or someone. He could be short-sighted, she’d always secretly thought that about him.

“Oh god please don’t let it be something illegal,” she murmured, hand shaking as she turned the CD over in her hand. Just how bad could it be? Extortion? Money-laundering? Murder? No. No, Tim wasn’t capable of murdering someone, what a ridiculous thought.

But dirty business, with the confidence he wouldn’t be caught….?

The fact was that in the moment, at just one sentence prompt from a mysterious source, Grace’s trust in her husband tumbled like a tower of toothpicks. Instead of debating who would be out to malign her husband, Grace fretted whether this CD was safe for her to look at, or if simply by seeing whatever was on here, she might become an accomplice. What if he’d already done things to implicate her?

Grace was not going to prison for Tim!

Her heart pounded in her chest so painfully she felt like she couldn’t breathe. She set the CD quickly down on the counter and backed away, already contemplating whether she ought to wipe her fingerprints off. But no, no, it would make sense she opened an envelope addressed to herself. It didn’t mean she’d committed any crime–

And this didn’t mean Tim had either! She leaned against the counter and pressed her hand to her forehead.

Fuck, I’m a bad wife.

This was Tim, for fuck’s sake. He could be an asshole, the anonymous sender was right about that, but it didn’t mean he was doing anything illegal or dangerous or immoral. Probably this was some business thing, some colleague of his pissed about a move he’d made and trying to undermine him starting at home.

…But what if it wasn’t?!

Grace’s family had been in possession of significant money for several generations. Old money. 19th century American money funded by 18th century European money. She’d been raised with warnings and stories, not paranoia but awareness that sometimes the presence of money made people think you were an easy victim. Maybe Tim wasn’t the target here, maybe she was.

She grabbed her phone and placed a call and after only a few rings heard her father’s deep voice over the line, greeting, “Grace? What’s up, honeybell?”

“Hi Daddy, there’s a thing… it’s making me nervous so I wanted to ask…” She trailed off, realizing immediately how stupid she sounded. She should have pulled her thoughts together before calling.

“What’s the matter now? Something is what?” She could tell he was distracted over the line. Mid-day like this, he was probably out golfing, or at least at a friend’s house for the afternoon. Her dad was a creature of habit, an introvert who’d carved his safe places out over the decades they’d lived in Winnetka, Illinois. His days were predictable.

“Sorry, Dad, I just got spooked. Someone left a weird envelope at my house with a CD and–”

“Wait, who did what now?” he interrupted. Grace felt the shudder across her shoulders at that tone in her father’s voice, even knowing it wasn’t aimed at her. He’d been casual before but pulled himself into lawyer mode in only an instant.

“I’m just being silly,” she began. That’s what her mother would say. Calling her dad, interrupting his afternoon plans, because someone left a CD on her porch and she was freaked even though she didn’t even know what was on it.

“Someone left something on your porch? What did they leave?”

“I don’t know, a CD and a printed note that says, um…” She grimaced. “It says my husband isn’t who I think he is.”

The line was silent for a moment. Grace’s father had grown to love Tim. He’d be pissed at slander aimed her husband’s direction. He’d be furious about baseless accusations.

“You know who sent it? You know what’s on it?”

“No,” Grace said. “I called you right away.”

“Is Tim there?”

“He’s out of town.”

“All right, Grace, don’t touch a thing. Call Alan. Don’t do anything until Alan is there.”

Grace nodded as if he could see her and mused, “I don’t know whether I should call Tim. Maybe he has an idea–”

“Do not call Tim,” he interrupted. “Only Alan. Don’t talk to anyone else. He’ll bring a secure computer over to look at what’s on the CD and after that I want you to check into a hotel until this gets figured out. This person knows where you live and that your husband isn’t home–”

“So you think it’s something bad?”

“Well you do, don’t you, sweetheart? Calling me sounding like you’re having a heart attack.”

“I’m sorry, I know I’m probably overreacting–”

“No such thing with our family.”

“But it’s not like Tim is actually a bad man. The CD is probably just… I don’t know. Something stupid. Someone’s just angry at him for something…”

Grace wanted to hear her dad agree that she was overreacting. His serious response escalated her fears. She’d wanted to be talked off the ledge and instead he was calling in a SWAT team and helicopter rescue.

“Do as I say, Grace. Call Alan now and tell me when he’s there.”

Spooked, Grace did as he said. Within thirty minutes, Alan Theodorakos stood on her doorstep straightening his cuffs and adjusting his hair in the reflection of the one-sided mirror where a window used to be in the door. One of the family’s many lawyers, Alan had worked for Grace’s parents for many years before she moved to California; now, because of proximity, he’d served as Grace’s own legal counsel any time she’d needed it, even if just to oversee her affairs with specialized attorneys such as when she’d married and when they’d bought their house. Her father was a lawyer too, of course, but financial, and he never directly handled family matters himself anyway.

“Where is the CD?” he immediately asked when Grace welcomed him in.

“I left it on the kitchen counter.” She showed him where the jewel case lay next to the printed note and the torn envelope, her name side up. Alan took a photo of all of it and Grace felt that tremor in her stomach again. If everyone was taking this so seriously, maybe she wasn’t taking it seriously enough!

Alan had with him a laptop, just as her dad had said he would. They made only the most polite small-talk as he set it up and, with gloves, removed the CD from the case and inserted it into the tray. Grace wrapped her arms around herself and paced back and forth, afraid to look, unable to look away.

“It’s probably nothing,” she said to herself as much as to him. “I’m probably wasting your time, it’s just some disgruntled admin assistant or something…”

Alan didn’t have anything to say to that except, “Nothing is ever a waste of my time.” Because your family pays well, he didn’t need to say. Yes she’d wanted financial independence from her family, but legal counsel was one thing she let them fund, so sue me. Except don’t, please….

“It looks like there’s a video file,” Alan said, opening the CD. The filename was automated, generic. He double-clicked to pull it up and Grace held her breath, bracing herself for something. Perhaps her imagination was running away with her –this was very impractical, yes, when she usually prided herself on being a practical person– but her dad and Alan had her fearing the worst now. Kidnapping, torture, murder. At least a secret meeting discussing some money-laundering scheme that was going to land her in court for weeks defending her oblivious innocence as Tim’s spouse. I’m sorry, your honor, I’m a fool but I’m innocent.

“Let’s see,” Alan said and hit play.

And this was how Grace wound up watching a video of her husband fucking another woman while standing next to her father’s lawyer.

Grace’s mouth hung open. Somehow she was shocked, even when the deepest part of her brain taunted her for being so surprised. It was recent; she saw the blue flower arrangement on the kitchen counter without even needing a time stamp. She didn’t recognize the woman, but she was young and beautiful and not Grace.

“I can stop the video,” Alan murmured, reaching forward but Grace brushed his hand away. She stared, eyes glued to the screen as her heart shattered. Or her mind. Something inside of her shattered.

Every criticism, every fight, every distracted dinner and missed date and complete lack of concern for anything she cared about flew in her face now. She’d loved Tim to distraction, even when he was unfair, even when he was unkind, even when he’d been a nobody before. And now he was doing this behind her back, as if she was nothing to him! In their own home! On her own fucking kitchen counter?!

She wanted to scream. She wanted to sob. But her upbringing trained her better than that. She turned a tight-lipped grimace to Alan and said,

“It turns out this is a private affair.” Affair. Terrible choice of words.

“Indeed,” Alan nodded. “I can provide legal counsel however you’d like to proceed.”

“For now I just need discretion…” How would she like to proceed…. Grace couldn’t fucking answer that! She still was having a hard time processing that Tim was fucking around on her. Tim! Tim, who was so focused on work and deals and dollar signs that he barely had time for her anymore, much less…. Except apparently he did!

“What would you like me to say to your father?” Alan prodded.

Grace grimaced. There was no good answer. Her father paid Alan’s bills but he was here as her legal counsel. But if Alan gave her father a non-answer, he’d be calling her up for direct answers within minutes.

“I’ll call him,” she said, just to buy herself time. What was she going to say? It’s a private matter between Tim and I. Might as well put up a sign on the front lawn that her husband was cheating on her. And to admit that to her family! She couldn’t. There were exactly zero divorces in her family. If there had ever been infidelity, she sure didn’t know about it. A marriage was for life, and it was her job to make this marriage worked, even in the face of infidelity, especially after she’d defended this relationship so hard in the face of her family’s early concerns. God, they were going to think she was worse than an idiot!

“Very well.” Alan packed the CD back into the jewel case to leave with her, took his laptop, and bid her good day. With another offer to provide whatever help she needed, he was gone.

Grace stood alone in her kitchen and tried to make sense of this. Tim cheating. Someone filming it from within her property. Someone sending it for her to find. Some explanation she needed to give her father. A very painful conversation she needed to have with Tim without any understanding yet of what she wanted to have happen. Did she want him to grovel and apologize? Did she want the shame of being divorced and cheated on? What would her family say if she left? What would her family say if she stayed?

Grace sank down to the mat in front of the sink and tried to cry but she just felt numb. This couldn’t be real. She’d so carefully managed her life up until now. She had thought Tim was right there in the seat next to her. What was happening?!

In a brief moment of gumption, Grace called her dad and, before he could say a word, blurted out, “It turns out it’s a private matter between Tim and I. I’d rather not talk about it yet. Please don’t tell anyone else yet.” It was an impossible thing to ask, but she decided she’d try.

A pause had her heart in her throat. She felt like so much hung in the balance: would her father defend her dignity or her marriage?

“Why don’t you and Tim come for a visit? I’d like to spend an afternoon golfing with him, man to man.”

Her marriage.

Grace said a quick goodbye before any pained sobs could escape, let her face drop to her bent knees, and tried to squeeze the tears back in. Like everything else in her life, it seemed, she failed.

Over The Falls Ch. 2: Bomb

The days were long this week in a way Jungkook didn’t like, but he’d picked up the extra lifeguarding hours because he needed the money. Haewon needed textbooks and that shit was expensive so he’d told her to ask him instead of their parents and then demanded to know why she wanted to be a lawyer so bad anyway. Political Science. Boring as fuck, he couldn’t believe how much money they were paying for her to be a leech. She always screeched at him when he teased her about it. He just wanted to keep her humble, that’s why he teased.

It had been hot as balls on the beach that morning and he’d been stuck near the wharf which sucked swamp ass because you had to actually do stuff: namely, chase people away when they swam too close to the pillars. Which everyone wanted to do, because there was shade, and just blowing your whistle wasn’t enough because suddenly people “couldn’t hear you” and “didn’t know the whistle meant they were doing something wrong.” So you had to drag your ass all the way over to yell at them, and then by the time you got back up to your chair, some other fucker was doing the same thing. Didn’t they look at the surf and the giant immovable objects and realize how easily the ocean could bash their puny brains out?! But if there was anything Jungkook had learned about tourists and teenagers both, it was that they had poor respect for the ocean. You had to respect the ocean. She was older and more powerful than you. Unconcerned with whether you lived or died. Sexy of her but annoying for lifeguards.

He only had two pool cleans on his schedule today, which meant an easier afternoon before band practice tonight, so he should still have energy to fight with Taro about how they shouldn’t add more 00s rock to their regular set just because they’d managed to come in second place in that competition. The first pool was an easy job, and the second was the one he both looked forward to and dreaded the most: The Birches.

This time last week, he’d chickened out dropping the envelope off, only to go back and do it later that day when the guilt ate at him. Now he wished he’d waited until the end of the season in two weeks so he wouldn’t have to see them again for a while; while most people kept their heated pools running year-round here, the Birches closed theirs at the end of summer so he was almost free of them. He’d never understood why. It was heated and this was southern Cali. He’d be swimming in that baby 365 days a year.

But he’d dropped the envelope and sprinted away and today would be the first opportunity to see if the bomb he dropped had done any damage. It gave him a nervous twitch, because what if he’d done the wrong thing? What if they knew it was him?

What if he was going to get arrested as soon as he showed up?!

Still he went, because he wasn’t someone to turn away from an unpleasant task, no matter how scary. And he needed to get paid. Maybe nobody would be there again, like last week…

The garage was closed but he glimpsed three cars through the windows after he’d parked in the driveway –Mr. Birch hated that. Well Jungkook hated douchebags who cheated on their wives. And walking further to get to the pool than he had to after lifeguarding all morning.

The missing car was Mr. Birch’s. Jungkook felt his skin tingle but ignored it, uninterested in nerves. Instead he prepared himself to knock on the back door, per usual, so Mrs. Birch would know he was here and unfortunately not accidentally walk out in revealing clothing–

Except Mrs. Birch was in the pool. In the pool. Jungkook froze like a bank burglar just inside the pool gate as her faked-blonde head surfaced from the water. Her eyes remained closed as she pushed her hair back, water droplets spraying as she panted for breath, emphasizing her collarbones and long neck.

Fuck. Fuck! Red alert!

Jungkook just stared as she grabbed the edge of the pool to hold herself steady as she swiped the water from her face. She looked tired, out of breath, like she’d been swimming hard for a while, not just lounging around for a dip.

Is she the swimmer then? Jungkook didn’t find it surprising at all to learn this about her but it made him happy, like this somehow confirmed she was the good person he’d always thought she was. Of course she was the swimmer. They both loved the water. And damn did she look good doing it, even just bobbing there as she pushed her hair back from her shoulders.

White bathing suit.

Jesus Christ, Jungkook was going to hit the deck. His brain attempted to save him without thinking through the consequences: he cleared his throat. It was rude. It was out of line. It wasn’t at all what he’d meant to do but someone had pulled the fire alarm in his head and that was the result.

Mrs. Birch spun quickly to face him, clearly started, and gasped, “Oh! Shit!”

The fantasy that hadn’t even begun to spin yet –that she had done this on purpose for him– died in its cradle.

“I’m so sorry, is it– are you early?” she asked. Her bare face looked at him with such surprise and alarm that he actually felt too bad to ogle her the way he wanted to.

“Ah, um… I don’t… think so,” he mumbled. Actually he was later than usual but he didn’t want to argue with her. “I can come back later?” He couldn’t, it was already late afternoon. Well, he could. He would! If she wanted him to.

“No no, I’m sorry, let me get out of your way.”

He watched with a semi he’d deny to his grave as she gracefully swam to the ladder and pulled herself up like a fucking centerfold. It was a one piece, he realized with no disappointment because the cutouts at the side showed smooth waist and water streamed down her bare shoulderblades and exposed back– but fuck he couldn’t tell if the tattoo was there or not, the bottom rose too high over her ass. She almost caught him staring when she turned to wrap the towel she’d set on the lounge chair, except his brain had leapt immediately to nipple patrol–

Fuck! He didn’t get a good look as his brain caught up with his stare and he immediately averted his eyes, leaving her to cover herself with the towel not under his blown-out gaze. Shit! He was around hot chicks in bathings suits all the time! Why now did his brain decide to run away….

“I completely lost track of time. Um…” She paused and then gestured to the pool with one hand as if to tell him to carry on, then fled into the house.

Jungkook just stood there for a moment. He’d never seen Mrs. Birch –or anyone for that matter– in the pool before, though legend said they used it, at least for parties sometimes. He felt a sense of pride now to know she really did, and that she looked so damn good in it. He sauntered to the edge to survey his work and felt his satisfaction grow further at the confirmation that he kept this pool in good shape. It looked great right now. He wouldn’t have to do much today, clean the filters, maybe nothing else. Now he felt bad to have chased her off. He could have done that while she kept swimming. He wouldn’t mind.

Damn. He was going to be thinking about this for a long time.

White bathing suit, huh?

He grabbed the outdoor trash and some gloves to get to work on the filters, in the hopes he could wrap it up quickly and she could slide right back in. But just as he was finishing up, she reappeared from the house in loose lounge clothes with her hair piled up on top of her head and a bamboo tray with his drink and snacks in her hands.

“You didn’t have to,” he called to her, “I won’t be long today. Pool looks good. Are you using it a lot lately?”

Her head tilted as she set the tray down and asked, “Yes, I’ve been out here every day lately. You can tell?”

It was mostly a lie as he shrugged, “If you’re swimming a lot, the motion sends the detritus into the filters. If no one’s swimming, it sits on top.” Detritus. Haewon had used that word a couple weeks ago and he’d latched onto it because it sounded more professional than shit.

“Oh, that makes sense.”

“Yeah?”

She glanced at the pool and he got the feeling something was bothering her. Which made sense, considering the whole bomb on her doorstep thing, now that his head had cleared enough to remember that. For a moment he thought she knew it was him and was going to ask him about it. Of course she’d figure it out, she seemed smart, or he’d missed something obvious in covering his tracks…

“Well I won’t bother you while you finish.”

“You’re not a bother,” he assured her. Her smile was small and didn’t reach her eyes as she turned to go. He reached for the drink out of obligation, because really he didn’t have anything more to do but he couldn’t just leave the things she’d brought for him sitting there. It felt unappreciative. Also it was free.

She must be hot in the long-sleeved lounge top, although the fabric was thin. The shorts rode high, showing off her thighs as she headed back towards the house. He realized she could see his reflection in the windows and squinted to look out over the pool as if he was lost in thought when she suddenly stopped walking, hand on the door.

When she turned, arms sliding across to sort of hold herself, Jungkook felt that nervous flutter. Oh no. Busted staring at her ass. Caught. He felt like a kid again, he’d fucked up and it was time to get in trouble. He gave into the urgent need to have his hands full, so he popped open the bag of chips and shoveled a handful into his mouth as she came back.

“Hey,” she said, voice softer and less certain than he’d ever heard her before. Her whole body seemed to curl in on itself miserably, a far cry from the way she’d pushed up from the pool half an hour ago. “I just wanted to ask you– when you were here last time, did you happen to see anyone drop off something? On my front porch?”

His eyes went wide. He chomped down, accidentally getting his cheek too, and cursed as he pressed his finger to the outside of it. She just watched him and he realized with a burst of paranoia how fucking guilty he looked. He sucked at lying. He was terrible at lying, especially when he really was guilty as shit!

“Oh, um…” he fumbled, swallowing the Cheetos down and licking the residue off his finger. He licked his lips nervously, feeling like there was orange powder there too. “From back here? What package?” Playing stupid was better than outright lying, even if saying he’d seen someone else do it would probably do a better job of getting him out of the hot seat.

She shifted her weight and chewed on the inside of her cheek, exactly where he’d just accidentally bitten on his own, and this similarity sent another wave of guilt rolling over him. He was lying to her. Fuck. Was he any better than Mr. Birch?! Shitothy Smirch? Eh, not his best work for taunting names….

“Ok, if you didn’t see anything… I just thought…” A cascade of emotions crossed her face, so raw and unpoised compared to the normally polite and neutral look she had with him, that Jungkook felt himself chipping further apart. She looked miserable, her face even redder than it had been just getting out of the pool. “Someone left an orange envelope for me,” she said. Fuck, were her eyes watering?!!? “I don’t know who but I’m trying to find out who so I can talk to them about it before–”

“It was me,” he blurted out as he suddenly realized how fucking scary this must be for her. “I left the envelope and I’m really sorry–”

He cut off as Mrs. Birch started to cry. Not quite burst into tears the way he might have expected, but she drew in a shaky breath and the tears he’d suspected managed to sneak out and she pressed her hands to her face.

The impulse to reach for her was hard to deny but he did. Obviously he couldn’t touch this woman he barely knew and whose marriage he’d just exposed as a sham. Plus he had Cheeto dust on his fingers and her clothes were light colored. He’d done enough already! It would be wrong! But it was hard to watch her upset and not comfort her.

“I’m sorry,” he said again in desperation. “I swear I’m not trying be a dick or anything, I just thought you should know.”

He saw her draw air in like strength and push her hands back through her hair, fortifying herself, before demanding with a strong expression that didn’t match the tears on her cheek, “So you filmed it and left an anonymous package on my porch?”

He pulled back, defenses instantly activated. Fuck. Had he misjudged? Had she already known? Did she not care? Fuck! All his friends had told him not to get involved but he’d wanted to be this hero and now he’d really fucked himself.

“I, uh, I thought you should know,” he stammered again. “But maybe you wouldn’t want anyone else to know? I wasn’t going to blackmail him or anything. It’s private for you so I didn’t want to blow up your spot–”

“But obviously someone knew, the person who took the video! And I didn’t know who it was until I watched the security footage and then I thought it was you but–”

“Ah I thought I had my hat on low enough…” he mumbled.

She gave him a baffled look and pointed out, “You still look and walk like yourself– but I didn’t know if I was wrong or who was filming from inside my backyard and it was just really scary…” She trailed off and suddenly sat down on the lounge chair, threatening to upend the bamboo tray. She covered her face again. She took another of those deep bracing breaths.

“Shit, I’m really sorry scared you,” he said, sinking onto the second one to face her.  “I just felt bad about it.”

“Why?! You weren’t fucking someone else in our–” She broke herself off and that spark of rage tossed him around another loop. He didn’t know her, he didn’t know her emotional processes, he didn’t know how she was handling this thing he’d opened her eyes too, and yet he felt unavoidably anchored here with her in this moment. How would he handle this in her shoes? He sure didn’t know, but he thought he’d do an even worse job of holding himself together.

“Yeah but I didn’t mean to scare you. I just thought you should know your husband is a fucking piece of shit.” The words rolled out without any hesitation because he was.

But it brought Mrs. Birch up short. She looked shocked, as if she somehow hadn’t realized what the video showed, and for a moment he forgot she had just referenced it and worried she hadn’t actually watched and he’d just done exactly what he had hoped to avoid: verbally give her this news. Instead she blinked slowly at him.

He meant to say sorry if that was too blunt but what actually came out was, “You deserve better than that.” He wasn’t actually sorry about that.

“Like you?”

“Wait, what?!” he cried, and jumped to his feet and stepped back so quickly he tripped on the lounger and fell onto his ass, tangled up in his own sandals. “No! I– what? I don’t have anything to do with this! I just–”

“I’m sorry,” she gasped this time, and covered her face again. “Oh god, I’m so sorry, I just…”

He’d scraped his palm in the fall; she didn’t seem to have even noticed that he did something so fucking clownish. Everything was all fucked up right now, she was all fucked up he understood now. That’s why she seemed all over the place.

“Hey, it’s ok, it’s ok. Look, I swear I don’t have any shitty motives.” He eased back onto the lounger, ignoring the burn of his hand. “I didn’t want to get involved with your personal business. I just couldn’t believe he’d do that to you and I didn’t think you’d believe me if I just told you so I… but yeah, you don’t deserve to be treated like that.”

Her voice was barely a whisper as she lowered her hands, eyes on her knees, “I would have believed you.”

“Damn.” He stopped himself from saying more. But damn that was a bad marriage if you’d believe your poolguy that your husband was banging someone else without even providing proof. She must have already known then that she’d married an asshole. That made him both very happy (Mrs. Birch is not like him!) and very sad for her (Mrs. Birch is married to someone who doesn’t deserve her!)

Watching her struggle to compose herself was distressing. He wished she would just cry it out hard. She’d feel better and he’d feel better too. Instead it was like watching her hurt herself further trying to keep the tears locked in when they so obviously wanted to come out.

“Who else did you show that video to?” she asked, gaze lifting to meet his. Her words sounded fiercer than her face looked, though her expression was still sort of scary. Sharp. “Or tell about… this?”

“No one,” he said, hoping a quick response would hide that it wasn’t entirely true. “Who would I tell? Why? I don’t even like knowing about it and I don’t know anyone who knows you–”

“You didn’t like upload it to the internet or– Reddit or something–”

“Fuck, no.” The goodwill he’d felt after she had said she’d have believed him evaporated and he felt as scummy as her cheating husband. “I don’t post that kind of shit anyway but even– I would never do that to you. Why would I do that–”

“I don’t know, for money, for clout, for revenge because Tim has been rude to you–”

Jungkook pushed to his feet as the heat rose in his cheeks, tingling up his neck. Apparently she’d believe him that her husband was cheating but not his own promise that he wasn’t blackmailing anyone. That she thought so lowly of him was the bullet through every last fantasy he’d harbored. No one had ever thought so badly of him as Mrs. Birch apparently did. Except maybe Mr. Birch.

“I said I wasn’t blackmailing,” Jungkook grumbled and turned to go because there was nothing else to say here.

Her hand suddenly on his arm stopped him dead in his tracks; she had leapt up and caught him quickly.

“No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to insult you, it’s just… you wouldn’t be the first person who realized they could use something like this against my family.”

“Your family?” He made a face, ignoring the hiccup in his chest at her fingers curled against his arm. Just as quickly she let go. “I don’t know anything about your family and I don’t care. I just wanted to let you know in case you didn’t, that’s it.”

It was like she hadn’t heard a word he said and continued, “And just think about it from my perspective. This is a private matter that I want to handle privately.”

“Well I’m not telling anyone,” he huffed, frustrated by the ongoing accusations.

“Do you still have the video? Will you delete it in front of me?”

“I already deleted it,” he said, but still fished out his phone. “You think I wanted that on my phone? It’s in my trash.”

“Yeah but will you permanently delete it? Please? I’m sorry I insulted you, I’m just… stressed right now.”

He paused, phone unlocked, showing a picture of the beach behind his apps. It softened the edge of her accusation to be reminded that the inciting incident of all of this was learning that her husband was cheating on her and the pool tech knew. That sucked. From her perspective, if he was in her shoes, he’d be hurt and distrustful too. She was just upset.

“I get it,” he told her. “No problem, you can watch me permanently delete it.” He opened up the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder on his phone as she leaned in to look, only for his stomach to cramp as he discovered just how many deleted selfies filled the rows ahead of the video. No dick pics thank fuck but still, it was embarrassing for her to see three rows of him posing in the bathroom without a shirt –he’d been trying to get a good one for his dating profile, ok?--, and he tried to cover them subtly with his fingers as he quickly tapped the video and then ‘Permanently Delete’ before it could begin to play. Too late did he realize how close she was standing, and that she smelled like something fresh and clean and mildly floral, and that her loose top had slid down her shoulder.

She pulled away and crossed her arms and nodded as she said, “Thank you.” She must have seen the photos but didn’t give any sign of it.

“Yeah, no problem.”

“I mean for telling me, too. I know it’s… awkward. It’s easier to mind your own business when it’s something uncomfortable but I’m glad that I know now. So thank you for telling me but now please forget that you know.”

“Yeah of course, I don’t know anything. I hope you get to keep your house in the divorce and I’ll keep the pool looking great.” He meant it as a joke, kind of. He was serious about it, but he hoped the tone shift could free them both from this moment that was even beyond awkward. Sustained emotionality wore him out. Guarding the wharf was easier than this for sure.

“I don’t know what I’m doing yet,” she said with utmost seriousness, with a shake of her head as if the idea was an annoying fly buzzing in her ear.

“Uh… what? How can you not know? The guy’s cheating on you, so leave his ass and wring him dry in the divorce,” he scoffed. As if he knew all about it! But it was just such an obvious next step, he couldn’t fathom she would do anything else. Good riddance to the fuckwad!

The effect on her was immediate: her hands dropped and she leaned away and got this scowl on her face that would have been sexy as hell if she hadn’t been almost defending that guy.

“It’s not that simple.”

“It is that simple.”

“It’s not. Marriage is complicated, especially one like ours, it’s not always easy and–”

“Well he pissed on that marriage when he started fucking other people, didn’t he?”

“How dare you?” The sexiness evaporated from her glare as it hardened, as his own words caught up to him.

“Fuck, sorry, I know it’s not my business–” He held his hands up, choosing to apologize even though in his gut he wanted to say more. See? He was bad at this! He really just wanted to comfort her and instead he was fucking it up because he just couldn’t stand to hear her insist there was anything salvageable about that wad of snot.

“You’re right, it’s not. Thank you for telling me about what’s going on but that’s where your judgment ends. You don’t know anything about us or our life or–”

“You’re right, I don’t. I do know he’s a piece of shit though and that you deserve better.”

“And how many times have you been married, since you’re such an expert on marital conflict–”

“Zero times,” he answered. “But when I do get married, I sure won’t treat my wife the way that asshole treats you. You’ve been apologizing for his shit since I started cleaning your pool and I may be just the pool guy but I see all kinds of people and I know a piece of shit when I see one. Whatever you think is worth staying married to him for, you’re wrong. That’s all I know. So whatever, you can report me to my boss and I can have someone else come clean your pool now or whatever but yeah, you’re better off without him.”

“Well thank you for not leaving that sage wisdom in a cryptic package on my doorstep this time,” she snapped.

Jungkook knew he’d gone too far. He’d stepped completely into their bullshit. He couldn’t help it! He was typically slow to erupt but good luck once he got going, and he was going now, because this was the 21st century and a woman didn’t need to stay with a fucker like that for anything! And to stand there and have her possibly saying thanks for telling me but I’m going to stay with him, I don’t mind him treating me like gum on his shoe– how was he supposed to silently endorse that!

He was too worked up to think of anything to say back so he just said, “Yeah, you’re welcome. You deserve better.” It was a stupid thing to sound so angry saying. He’d think of something better int he shower later.

“Why, because I give you snacks while you clean our pool? You don’t know anything about me or what kind of person I am, JK. Maybe I did deserve this.”

“No way.”

“But you don’t know!”

If he hadn’t already known it in his gut, he knew it was true now, as the anger on her face wavered and he saw, just for one brief moment, raw grief. For one moment she had that look that in the movies makes a guy take up his sword and march off to war or whatever. She looked like a vulnerable, hurting person, not some rich caricature of a human, and that was exactly why he had stepped into this so far and couldn’t even regret it even if he knew he was making an ass of himself.

Just as quickly it was mostly gone, all except a soft, downward turn of her mouth. She had color on her lips which struck Jungkook as a little strange to have put on after the pool but he supposed Mrs. Birch wanted to always be put together. It was not a helpful train of thought –I could undo her combined with but she’s so sad right now and trying to hide it, isn’t she?-- and he looked away. He didn’t know what else to say. He wasn’t used to this kind of dramatic exchange. He didn’t have stamina for it. Usually if he was fighting with a woman he just let her say her peace and then she left and that was the end, there were only a few times he really got into it.

But telling Mrs. Birch she ought to divorce her husband was worth it.

“I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore,” she admitted with a deep, tired sigh. “I need to go. Thank you for bringing all of this to my attention, but please, forget everything.”

“You got it, boss,” he mumbled. It was awkward. He felt deflated now.

She wasn’t going to leave her husband. That’s what he’d just learned. And the idea that a good woman would stay with a shitty man just flooded him with despair. Romance was dead, marriage was a sham, and there was no justice. His dad had divorced his mom and there were even kids involved, so what did Mrs. Birch think made it so impossible for her? But he didn’t feel like saying that to her now. He felt like he’d just burned what minor threads had connected them, and maybe it had been necessary in order for her to know about her husband, but selfishly he wondered now if it had been worth it. If she wasn’t even going to leave him, maybe she wished Jungkook had just kept his mouth shut. Maybe he should have.

“JK, I…”

He’d never know what she was going to say because after a grimace rolled across her face, she turned and went inside. Leaving him to finish the job he was paid to do, cleaning the fucking pool.
