What Your Ship Says About You
It’s so interesting how certain ship fandoms behave relative to their characters.
Zutara fans are deeply passionate and ready to fight at any moment. They don’t care what canon (authority) says, they’ll fight them too. They also have very creative souls and explore possibilities that others wouldn’t have even considered. However they can be hotheaded and their passion can turn to aggression. Just like Zuko and Katara.
Kataang fans are more peaceful usually, content to bask in the zen of being canon. But if you drag them into a fight, they’ll bring the fury like they’re in the Avatar State! They strive to find coherency for the canon couple and accept what they cannot change rather than fight a fruitless battle. Just like Aang and Katara.
Ty Zula fans are fierce and sometimes they say things that don’t make sense to others because it’s based on “vibes” (auras). But if you insult them, they’ll come at you with the full force of their collective might. Just like Ty Lee and Azula.
Toko/Zutoph fans don’t care about the rules and are happy to enjoy their ship without feeling the need to defend it as canon. They’ll hit you over the head with their love for the ship in their memes or stealthily lure you in with fanart. Under their rash surface though, there’s some heartbreaking and vulnerable metas. Just like Toph and Zuko.
Zukka fans are just fun. Although sometimes there’s the occasion where they slip into taking themselves too seriously, and need to remember they have nothing to prove. They’re fine the way they are even if it’s not canon. Just like Zuko and Sokka.
Sukka fans are lovely and I haven’t ever seen them start fights with anyone, and yet Bryke continues to do them dirty and neglect them, even going so far as to imply this ship has broken up. Just like Suki and Sokka.
Maiko fans handle criticisms with smug dismissal and apathy a lot of the time, but set them off and you’ll see another side. It has ardent defenders but most of it seems like a defensive reaction against much more stable ships. Just like Mai and Zuko.
Taang fans are myths of epic proportion. Can’t tell if they never existed or if they simply vanished. Just like Toph and Aang.
Tokka fans are fun and most people will get along with them. But if you’re one of the few to get on their nerves or find them annoying? You’re gonna have a bad time. Just like Toph and Sokka.
Sokkla fans are tactical. They don’t usually get in fights for the ship, they just slowly lower your defenses with beautiful fan art. Sneaking in past your walls, once they’re in they’ll bring the receipts with their metas and brainwash you to their side. Just like Sokka and Azula.
Ty Suki fans are perfect and correct and deserve a giant gay island all to themselves and their girlfriends. Just like Ty Lee and Suki.
k so i finally watched A:TLA properly on Netflix instead of just watching random episodes whenever I saw it on nickelodeon and wow i really used to fight with my friend over zutara and kataang (i was a hardcore zutara shipper) while zukka was right there

realizing that his son had set his eyes on a mere yìjì, ōzai warned the prince that he might be deceived by outlanders witchery, but zukō insisted that he trusted agni's sacred will. he continued to chase the tawaif in unquenchable desire to know about her more, unaware that the fate he would thread on was to become a madman, lost in utterly blind love which turned into the purest form of devotion.
because amrapali was, in fact, not merely a dancer and disciple of buddha. she was bodhisattva kannon in her avatar form－a man named āng, awakened in rana pota lake as the only living sky dweller. his kin were mercilessly wiped from existence milennium ago by zukō's ancestor, souzan tenshi, who begun the conquest of rajamandala.
āng's crimson henna, drawn by performers of tide drifters; adinda katara and kakanda saka, covered his distinguished irezumi, while his voice was trained to move even the most hardened heart by paduka běifāng and a hia haru, the stone wielders. together with his beloved shrivijayans, the avatar would liberate the victims of war under ōzai's tyrant rule.
however, it was out of āng's prior knowledge that he would possess karmic ties with the very son of his own enemy through vortex of conflicted, mortal feelings. willingly bestow thousands of blessings to zukō's thousands of prayers, he would, but even as the emanation of god, āng still could not simply pull the strings of fate as he selfishly pleased.
by the will of sang hyang widhi, āng was destined to succeed in ending the misdeeds of fire breather’s forefathers, but at the cost of his heart falling forever in unfulfilled love. for he knew, that even though zuko took the role of mirabai to krishna, their wish to be united would be granted only in death like that of layla and majnun.

From Pro to Anti Zutara
Zutura is basically Katara & Zuko from atla has a ship. A ship that is not canon & will never be canon. It was a childhood favorite of mine until the fans really started to piss me off (you will see this happen in 80% of my post)
Zuko and Katara are the perfect enemies to lovers' blueprint. She's ice and he's fire. He's the prince of the land that ruined hers and just the thought of the two of them getting together felt so enticing as a kid. Now it just seems dumb….
First, zutara shippers are extremely annoying especially with the way they constantly did Aang and misunderstand his CANON relationship with Katara.
I will admit I wasn't a fan of kataang’s chemistry until I read the comics where Aang was much older and mature. But one thing I didn't do was deny the fact that Aang and Katara both had feelings for each other
This fact is just something Zutara shippers love to gloss over, they will say stuff like “oh Katara never cared for Aang” or some bs along those lines.
like I'm a true believer of people having free will to ship whatever they want, but some of y'all be doing too much.
Do not let your non canon ships & stupid headcanons get in the way of canon material. No zutara was never meant to be together, the creators intended for Katara to be the main love interest and even went further to make fun of zutara shippers in the show. Yet Zutara shippers will do anything to delude themselves into believing false narratives. Myself and everyone else just like(d) the thought and concept of it.
Whatever you do, don't drag my boy Aang for no reason.

people who claim that Katara ending up with Zuko rather than Aang would have made her character more “feminist” completely disregard her race and ethnicity. it shows a lack of understanding when it comes to intersectional feminism because Katara and Aang ending up together is revolutionary. these are two people who understand each other in a way no one else could. both victims of the same regime in the exact same way. both genocide survivors. both the last of their kind (Katara being the last waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe and Aang, of course, being the last airbender). both genocides committed to kill the avatar and erase hope from the world. both come from a collectivist culture. they are both leaders of a resistance group, two people who fight for a better world and in the process find love during war time, in the face of an imperialist nation that was set on wiping them out but they prevailed. not only did the end the war together, but they are tangible proof that love and hope and peace is possible and it’s never too late for things to turn around, even if you are the last of your kind.
Aang, Katara and their relationship is embodiment of that hope and of the revolution.

omg hello anon again!!
recently i stumbled upon a kataang titanic AU fanfic called unforgettable feelings by futureairbender18 on ff.net (sadly it hasn't been updated since 2011) but the fic is really good so i've been wanting to draw them.
as i fell back into the kataang rabbithole, i've also been thinking about similar ships and parallels in other media. ppl have mentioned everlark, percabeth. i've also seen spirited away, howl's moving castle, and nutcracker fanart of kataang which are all brilliant.
don't @ me but kataang WALL-E/EVE??? wall-e/eve dancing together in space reminds me of kataang penguin sledding.
the kataang cloudbending scene in the fortuneteller reminds me a lot of hiccstrid's romantic flight (i'm surprised i haven't seen kataang/hiccstrid parallels yet lol). the way katara wakes aang up from his hundred years of slumber makes me think of sleeping beauty lol (one of my favourite movies).
upon rewatching the first two episodes of atla, seeing katara struggle with her identity as a waterbender while nobody else understood her until aang shows up and opens up her world reminds me a lot of beauty and the beast (watch the kataang beauty and the beast edit on youtube by kataang videos) and aladdin.
kataang growing old together but aang passing away early reminds me of the movie "up."
anyways i have a lot of ideas we shall see how many actually see the light of day.
