Silent Night- Kojira Oneshot
It had been what felt like forever since Kong and Godzilla had fought, forever since MechaGodzilla was permanently destroyed... And forever since peace and balance was restored to the world...
Godzilla had been laying on his back alongside Kong for a short while, now. Just gazing up at the star filled sky above with him as thoughts went through his mind...
He liked Skull Island. It was calm and peaceful and not many kaiju knew of the Island, so it was essentially a safe space for him and Kong.
As he gazed up at the stars alongside the ever silent Kong, a small wave of sadness came over him... He missed Mothra. He and Mothra used to look up at the stars with Anguirus long ago, but... now they were both gone.
Anguirus, permanently, and Mothra temporarily.
He was relieved that Mothra would be back soon, but that didn't mean he didn't miss her or Ang- his thoughts were suddenly interrupted when Kong broke the silence.
"Hey, are you alright? Is there something you want to talk about?" He asked.
"N- not really..." Godzilla mumbled.
"You sure?"
Godzilla was silent for a short moment.
"We don't have to talk about anything if you want-"
"I... miss Mothra..." Godzilla mumbled, voice cracking, as he was doing the best he could to force himself to not cry.
"I know... sucks that Ghidorah killed her..."
"But... I couldn't have won if she didn't sacrifice herself..."
"Mm... true..."
There was silence for a short moment, as Godzilla scooted closer to Kong.
"You, uh... don't talk much, do you?" Godzilla awkwardly asked.
"Nah... not used to talking much like everyone else. What, you have a problem with it?"
"No, no, I don't. It's... fine. I'm not used to this kind of silence... I kind of like it..." Godzilla mumbled, slightly smiling.
"You like that I don't talk much?"
"I mean, I'm fine with it... I'm just not used to absolute silence..."
"Ah, makes sense..."
There was another short moment of silence as Godzilla scooted closer to Kong again, now leaning on the ape's soft shoulder.
"What are you doing?" Kong asked.
"I'm just... a bit cold..." Godzilla mumbled, looking away to try and hide the bit of blush across his face.
Godzilla flinched when Kong gently pulled Godzilla up to his chest, letting the King rest his head on Kong's chest.
"Wh- what are you doing?" Godzilla quietly asked as Kong held him against his chest.
"Well, if you're cold, we might as well warm each other up by getting close." Kong responded.
Godzilla cuddled up against Kong, getting closer as he rested his snout in the crook of Kong's neck. "Yeah, you're right..." He mumbled, "You're really soft..."
"Thanks, feeling warmer yet?"
The King nodded his head.
"Good." Kong sighed, now holding Godzilla close as the King hugged him back.
Not another word was said as the two Kaiju eventually fell asleep in each other's arms.
But, unbeknownst to them, the small larvae that was Mothra was watching from a large collection of bushes in the forrest, smiling. (If larvae can smile?)
She was glad that Godzilla was able to let himself show happiness around another Kaiju, he really needed it since Anguirus's demise...

Ok, I know I got my delusional shipper glasses on when I read this part. Because all I could think about was, "Kong would definitely be in denial if he ever got a crush on Goji and would be very mad about it."
Anyway, here's Kong's first impression on Godzilla.
"The shape of the enemy was like nothing he had ever seen, much less fought; but just the scent of the creature made him angry, and everything about it fit into a hollow spot inside of him, as if something had been taken out long ago and left empty until now.
He would have let it be. He had no interest in it; it did not threaten his island and those he protected. Why should he care about it or what it did?
But it had come for him, come when he was helpless. And for that, he wanted to break it, tear off its limbs, suck the meat from its bones.
But it was bigger, stronger than anything he had ever known. It made him feel things he did not understand and did not want to understand." - Pg 182
I finally broke and decided to write my own kongzilla fic. I'm currently on chapter 4, but I plan to at least get past the events from The New Empire before I post anything publicly. To be honest, I'm new to sharing stuff online and AO3 scares me.
The funny thing is, what made me want to write a kongzilla fic was Rodan. He's either never mentioned or is just a minor character. But he has so much potential!
Him and Shimo have opposing abilities, fire and ice. I think it would be cute if they bonded on their extreme temperatures, like the struggle to avoid freezing or setting everything on fire. Or maybe when they touch, they create fog because they cancel each other out. And they both know what it was like to work for the 'bad guy'. I want Rodan to reflect on how guilty he feels for doing Ghidorah's bidding and for Shimo to comfort him and tell him that their situations were different. Scar King needed Shimo, he couldn't kill her. Ghidorah didn't need Rodan, he could've killed him.
And imagine Rodan and Suko in the same room AND while Godzilla and Kong are going through a "will they, won't they" situation. Rodan would be the fun uncle that constantly gets into trouble with Suko. When they are together, Godzilla and Kong's anxieties spike to 100.
I also headcanon all Rodans to be social creatures that can't live without family. The first film had a mated pair that died together because one couldn't live without the other. The heisei Rodan was a surrogate older brother trying to save his little brother. And in the end he sacrificed his life because his ADOPTED little brother told him to. So yep, I think Rodan would admire Kong to some extent. He didn't submit when an alpha titan beat him in a fight, he found his family and is doing everything to care for them. Kong is what Rodan could be.
Another headcanon of mine is that Godzilla and Rodan are old friends. Blame the showa era for making it impossible for me not to see a close bond between the two. Imagine how tricky things got after the whole Ghidorah thing. Do they talk about? Do they fight over it? Do they treat each other like lifelong companions or has Godzilla changed since he became the protector of the world? Rodan did seem scared of him in KOTM.
I promise the fic won't just be about Rodan! I just think it'd be a nice side plot to actually characterize him. I mean, look at all the potential dynamics! Mothra and Shimo can work together to get Godzilla and Kong to kiss while Rodan and Suko work together to embarrass them at every progression of their relationship.
