Just thinking about how everything that went down at Everglen in Flashback was projected to the whole world, and how that affected the Vackers, specifically Fitz (oh wow big surprise Kale is making a Fitz angst post).

The entire world saw him beat up Alvar. They watched this elvin teenager hold a knife to his own brother's throat and seriously consider killing him. All the other stuff was certainly eye-opening, but something that stayed with them was the violence Fitz Vacker was capable of.

Foxfire sessions were paused after that, but that didn't mean Fitz didn't hear and feel the change in the way the world thought about him now. Once placed on a pedestal, once the symbol of perfection — the perfect son from the perfect family — now a broken elf. from a broken family.

People are scared of him. They realize he's near them and back away. If he was capable of that kind of violence against his own brother, what else could he do? How unpredictable is he?

They want to treat Fitz as something other, something they cannot connect with. Elves are perfect and not violent. The exceptions are the Neverseen — and Fitz Vacker.

Fitz has to pretend more than ever now. He can't let anyone see him anything other than perfect, because it will be used to prove that he's clearly not right in the head. Sometimes he doesn't feel right in the head. But he never wanted the world to know.

The whispers, the way people back away from him, like they're afraid. People glancing at him as if he could turn around and kill them at any moment.

When Foxfire reopened, it got worse. Not to mention his friends didn't treat him very well, either. They all had real problems to deal with. They didn't need to hear about the notes taped to his locker, the constant stares and whispers. Biana knows some of it, but she assumed Fitz isn't letting it get to him, when in reality, he's just not letting it show.

He can't let it show. If he does, he's just proving them right.
