Language is weird.

Why is singular 'dude' used a gender neutral term but plural 'bunch of dudes' is masculine

And plural 'guys' is used as a gender neutral term but singular 'guy' a masculine term.

Then singular 'girl' is used as gender neutral but 'girls' is feminine

And 'ladies' is gender neutral but 'lady' is feminine.

Can someone explain this to me? How did this happen?
