well since i have tumblr now might as well promote my fic lol
one of my favorite things to do when writing is to kill off, lock away, or assign a possession to a character i can't write very well so i don't have to write them haha
me somehow fitting 4/5 planned fics into the same timeline and it makes sense (only 3 were supposed to work)
That moment when the unrelated scenes you've been writing for two weeks both somehow connect (i have no idea how this happened)
me when i add another fic to the lineup (now i have 6 fics planned for my main series- rykyr longfic, shadow longfic, assassin longfic, secret bbeg longfic, tails oneshot, and silver oneshot)
like, i'm 90% sure there's gonna end up being more. maybe more longfics (now i'm starting to think about telling the story of another secret character help 💀💀💀), maybe more oneshots, who knows lol

i'm already gonna go back and edit some stuff in the previously posted chapters of Live and Learn since the plot direction is already kind of evolving, and i don't want any weird dropped subplots. i do this thing where i write a chapter and almost immediately post the first or second draft, and that's probably Not Great?? so i'm gonna try to change that by sitting on any new chapters for a bit before posting them
i also just got a new job and am looking to get a second one to help cover the remaining cost of college tuition, so while updates weren't very frequent, i was at least working on plot outlines and whatnot in my spare time, but it's looking like said spare time is going to basically vanish. sarcastic yippee.
also (i know i'm saying that a lot i'm tired and can't think of better phrasing hhhh) i've been technically telling the story out of order. chronologically, Live and Learn is supposed to be the 2nd fic in the series, but i had more motivation/direction ideas with that one, so i started it first. Demon Days, the fic featuring rykyr, is supposed to be the first one, so i'm probably gonna put Live and Learn on pause (updates, at least. probably not writing but i'll try to stay focused) until i get a fair bit of Demon Days written/posted, and then that'll start up again, and then i'll start doing the other fics in the series and oneshots as appropriately timed.
not sure how many of my readers are on tumblr, but i'll kind of cross-post to ao3 in a chapter i'll delete later so everyone there knows what's up, too

I’m kind of obsessed with Shadow’s inhibitor rings. Like he’s connected to so much raw power that his abilities have to be forcibly repressed in order for him to function? Guys that’s BADASS. Starts taking the rings off? Shit’s about to get real. Not to mention the potential risks involved with losing/breaking them. I just think it’s a really underrated aspect of his character that’s not heavily featured in fandom works and that’s a shame.

once i finish actually drawing my characters instead of rotating them in my brain for weeks its over for yall i will drop oc lore like a bomb and you'll like it.
so i came to the embarrassingly late realization that i can work on live and learn during my slow hours at work bcuz i have google docs on my phone. so. now i can work on the next chapter

This. This. I live for shit like this. They're opposites in so many ways, but also very similar. I love compare and contrast character analysis so much
Sonic and Shadow are truly perfect juxtapositions of each other. Thinking about them in the game verse specifically:
Sonic is casual; Shadow is formal.
Sonic is simple; Shadow is complicated.
Sonic reacts; Shadow plans.
Sonic acts on instinct; Shadow thinks through his every move.
Sonic has always known who he is; Shadow has had to fight to know who he is
Sonic trusts himself; Shadow doesn’t.
Sonic doesn’t care about his past; Shadow is constantly fighting to not be consumed by his past.
Sonic doesn’t worry about whether or not he’s ‘good’; Shadow constantly doubts his own motivations and is very concerned about if he is good.
But Sonic and Shadow are also extremely similar in specific key ways:
They’re both introverts.
They both hate injustice.
They’re both compassionate.
They both have good intentions.
They’re both competitive
They’re both incredibly loyal to people they care about.
It’s through these similarities that they can bond and have a healthy respect for each other, and even be friends. And even with their differences, I think they admire each other. Shadow admires Sonic’s unwavering confidence and certainty, and Sonic admires Shadow’s strength in the face of everything he’s gone through.
Their dynamic just fascinates me.
