Lsn Autistic - Tumblr Posts
I used to not understand why "to turn a blind eye" and "to fall on deaf ears" were considered ableist language because they felt like just some phrases. But now that I think about it, if the only instance where people brought up autism in a conversation was something like "to display autistic uninterest" I'd be pissed off too.
People can “hold in” meltdowns?
I see sometimes autistic people will say they are able to hold in a meltdown until they’re in a private place to let out their emotions. I’ve never been able to do this. Is this a level 1 thing? I’m jealous
LSN autistics please stop saying you have MSN/HSN days.
Support needs are based on your average day-to-day. You cannot be HSN sometimes, you can have days where you struggle and need more help and accommodations but you will never understand what it's like to love your life with MSN/HSN.
I don't switch between MSN and LSN days just because I have a couple days a month when I can somewhat care for myself.
My average is barely being able to communicate my needs. My average is needing someone to cook my meals and bring me my medications when it's time to take them. My average is full blown meltdowns over a seemingly inconsequential situation. My average is not being able to leave the house alone. My average is severely lacking social skills and having a very hard time in social situations.
Please stop trivializing being MSN/HSN. Please spend time with and learn from MSN/HSN experiences. Please learn your privilege and understand that your autistic experiences are not everyone's. That some of us are very much disabled and cannot work/need caregivers 24/7.
Autism is not just a silly disorder that makes you quirky. Perpetuating that IS ableism.
