since iâm on my third mdzs brainrot of the year, let me just say: itâs enlightening how this story, spread over multiple volumes, goes over the simple but undeniably true reality that even while doing almost everything ârightâ you can still be horribly âwrongâ in the eyes of society. how wei wuxian would bend over backwards to follow his morals (which have been narratively shown to be somewhat the standard) but still be condemned at large because he didnât go about it the way that was perfectly compliant with what his social superiors and other authority figures expected of him. how âgoodâ deeds in the mdzs world (and ours) will only be accepted and praised, coming from someone of lower social standing, if they are packaged in an unobstrusive mannerâand sometimes, not even then. and itâs funny how some people miss that, how they wonder what would have happened if wei wuxian had been just a bit more tempered, a bit more subservient, a bit more polite. how the expectation of delivering his kindnesses in the most unhindering manner possible is somehow an acceptable train of thoughtâhow the burden to do better is not unequivocally placed on people like JGS, Jiang Cheng, Nie Mingjue, the Lans, etc.
some people think that wei wuxian using demonic cultivation in the eyes of the cultivation world is his downfall. nevermind the fact that he literally isnât practicing mo daoâthis whole issue is NOT about what heâs doing, but about who he is. mxtx has made that clear at multiple points in the novels but the most glaring example is, ofcourse, how the nie sect is allowed to mess with resentful energy all they like and since they are a powerful enough sect, they face no social or political backlash for itânot in the way that wei wuxian does. even then, during the war, those people had no qualms against weaponising wei wuxianâs powers for their benefit. if it truly was about the dubious morality of using mo dao for them then wei wuxian should have been condemned from the get-go. but itâs not. itâs about the son of a servant wielding enough power to change the tides of a war and then surviving to tell the tale and continue to live with the kind of power that shouldnât be held by someone of his station. itâs about people quaking in their boots because wei wuxian has shown himself as someone who wonât conform, who wonât become a dancing monkey for their tunes.
yes, wei wuxian is not some perfect angel saint but then, why the fuck should he be??? this expectation from some readers and the members of his world alike, that wei wuxian should have been the one to give it his all and more to avoid conflict is blasphemous. in the end, wei wuxian chose his path, stuck to his ideals, and went down throwing a big fuck you at the larger cultivation worldâs back, while the rest failed to break the cycle of power abuse. the fact that it took them more than a year to see him to death is just a testament to how well wei wuxian handled things than some grace given by the cultivation world. the whole âwei wuxianâs first death was inevitableâ is, for me, not about wei wuxian slowly spiralling and things getting out of hand. his death was inevitable because corrupt people with power will always choose to exploit and silence, will always choose to exert their will, will always choose to hurt those lower in the chain. and that is exactly what happened with the ambush and everything that led upto it.
Wei Wuxian really did spend most of his life attempting the impossible, huh ?
Give away his core, create a new branch of cultivation, bring back the dead, defy all the sects, defeat the Wen, die, come back to life, and get gay married (not something that existed back then) to someone most of the world believed to be squarely out of his league
No wonder everyone was so impressed

People will hate on LXC for telling WWX he was a mistake, but honestly we're not giving the guy enough credit

I mean imagine you're being supportive of your little brother's crush, he's funny, he challenges him and makes him happy, so you're like 'wooooo let's go baby brother!' and then that mf starts doing the equivalent of harcore drugs. And you're like (âąá· âł âąá· ;)
Then your brother starts running after him constantly, trying to help, being like 'please stop, this is bad for your health, let me help' and his crush. not only does not stop. not only does he get worse. not only does he starts fighting your brother every time they speak and making him miserable. But he doubles down and becomes a. Fucking. Convicted. Felon.
And you're like 'bro, drop this hoe omfgđ°' and your brother is like 'no, I love him :('.
So then his crush kills somebody and goes on the run. And you have to watch as your baby brother decides to go against the law, against your family, ruining his life, his future and everything he has worked for. To go after this bitch that doesn't even love him back (that you know) .
Your baby brother is gonna go to fucking jail for being an accomplice. You start scrambling. Thank. Fuck. Your family is influential, so you burry his involvement and go after him. But then, WHILE PROTECTING THIS DUDE, that is constantly telling him to fuck off, mind you. Your brother hurts important people and gets LASHED.
Your baby brother gets literally almost killed. He gets send straight to the ICU. He can't walk, he can't move. Doctors aren't even sure he's going to fucking survive.
You have to see as your brother suffers, and worsens his condition by trying to get back to his crush. See him overcome with pain to the point of self harm. See him sad and grieving for years.
And then. After all of that. This piece of shit, that ruined your brothers life, that ruined his mental and physical health for 13 years. That has been taunting him and testing his boundaries for months. That you let into your mother's house and into your family's secrets, only for him to break your brother's heart, again. Looks at you straight in the eye, on one of the worst days of your life, while you are going through your own breakup. And, honest to God, asks you 'Does your brother's pain have something to do with me?'...
Bruh...
I'm just saying, LXC is better than me, because if that was me 'a mistake' wouldn't be the only thing I would be calling him.

Ever wondered how Lan Xichen just stood there in Guanyin Temple, dropping a harsh monologue on Wei Wuxian, and all of the sudden he reveals that he knew about Wei Wuxianâs teasings and flirtings with Lan Wangji during his âLetâs pretend Iâm that gay lunatic Mo Xuanyu guyâ period?  Yes.

I feel like we as a fandom don't acknowledge how Wen Qing and Wei Wuxian were both prodigal geniuses in their respective fields, and how much they had accomplished in their young age.
Both of them had thought up an incredibly difficult theoretical concept that was deemed impossible or with little to no chances of success, and they both managed to pull it off. (Wen Qing with the golden core transfer, and Wei Wuxian with his guidao). Both of them worked together to help the Wen remnants survive in the burial mounds on a shoestring budget, and they managed for a long time.
I feel like people forget that Wen Qing was famous not only in the Wen clan, but throughout the cultivation world for her skills in the medical field.
In short, Wei Wuxian worked incredibly well with both of the Wen siblings. Which is why all their deaths are even more of a tragedy, that the cultivation world killed such brilliant minds in wake of their own greed and cowardice.
