my thoughts on robot’s behaviour towards tyrell and why tyrell and vera are very different
after this week’s episode i understand that all of us are still quite in shock because of what was revealed, but i’ve seen too many people say some absurd and honestly disgusting stuff about tyrell and tyrelliot so i had to say something myself. tyrell’s feelings for elliot might be intense, but if you really think he can be compared to vera or even edward (i’ve seen that..), you need to rewatch the show because that ain’t it chief.
however, knowing what i know now has made me rethink all robot’s action towards tyrell and i think i finally understand why he acted the way he did.
all robot ever did was try to shield elliot from his trauma so, in a way, i think he was just trying to push tyrell as far as possible from elliot because he knew that his feelings could trigger something. he wasn’t trying to push away the attentions of “another obsessive man”, he was trying to push away the attentions of A MAN. period. i don’t think it was ever about tyrell himself, even if he could be intense; i think it was about what tyrell represented in that moment.
robot acted out of anger, but most importantly out of fear. one more word, one more touch from tyrell and all of elliot’s memories could come back in a second. tyrell’s feelings were like a ticking bomb, ready to explode at any time. that’s why he was trying to stop him before it was too late
that’s why he always blamed him for intruding elliot’s life
he just wanted tyrell to understand that “he” wasn’t interested (even if we actually don’t know what elliot feels), so that tyrell could stop himself before doing or saying something too explicit. he wanted him to leave elliot alone because he was afraid of the consequences.
i honestly think it’s safe to say that robot doesn’t hate tyrell because a) robot is still a part of elliot and elliot feels connected to tyrell, in a way, and b) we’ve actually seen that robot cares about tyrell as well. in their last episode together, he’s actually the one who worries for his life at first and tries to console him when “elliot” (most luckily the third alter) is being an asshole to him.
i think robot feels sorry for tyrell. he knows that tyrell genuinely cares about elliot and, despite everything, he just wants what’s best for him, but robot doesn’t know how to handle the situation. for years and years he’s been trying to protect elliot from any pain involving that trauma so he can’t risk it now, even if deep down he knows that it’s not tyrell’s fault and he doesn’t think his love for elliot is a bad thing itself.
now, the question that some of us have been asking is: how does elliot really feel? we don’t know that. we don’t know if elliot ever questioned his sexuality and how much his trauma influenced his relationship with men and the way he approaches them. there’s absolutely no doubt that elliot was deeply scarred by what happened to him but we’re not sure how it relates to tyrell. robot has always tried to avoid the conversation with elliot, but is it maybe because he’s too afraid to know the answer? i actually don’t know what to think about this specifically because on one hand robot knows elliot very well so he should know if he actually has feelings for tyrell as well, right? but on the other hand, he didn’t know about the third alter so there still may be things that he doesn’t fully understand about him... i really don’t know. robot could have been lying about not knowing about the third alter for all we know.
one thing that i want to mention though is that, as we know, elliot has always had issues with being touched. he rejects physical touch except from people he feels comfortable with, right? then to me it’s important to say that even if he almost never initiated the physical contact with tyrell, he always let him touch him and never once he yelled at him or told him to stop (like he did with vera for example). one time he even relaxes under tyrell’s hands.
(and let’s not forget that elliot even cried with tyrell’s blood on his hands in episode five)
i don’t know if i’m reaching but i needed to point out yet another reason why vera and tyrell are very different.
right now, elliot is broken. he needs time to process everything so i don’t think he’s thinking about tyrell at the moment. he needs time to heal. however, doesn’t he have the right to know the full truth now that everything is out in the open? doesn’t he have the right to know that tyrell actually did “like” him? he might have guessed it from tyrell’s behaviour in episode four but i think he really needs to hear it from robot (or tyrell himself). we have no idea how he would react.
elliot said to vera that he doesn’t want to be alone anymore
so reuniting with tyrell could actually be the best thing for him (yes i’m in denial and i think he’s still alive but what’s new). tyrell’s feelings for elliot are genuine. if he knew about elliot’s past he would be understanding and wouldn’t try to do anything inappropriate, not even touching him without his consent. i’m sure of that. so i really hope tyrell is still alive because having someone who loves you by your side is something that elliot hasn’t experienced in quite some time and he needs it, he said it himself. (i’m obviously talking about romantic love so i’m not counting darlene who, despite everything, never stopped caring about elliot)
so yeah, i needed to rant a bit because people disrespecting tyrell annoyed me. this is just my opinion and i’m sorry if i upset anyone who experienced a similar trauma (everyone has different ways of dealing with this kind of stuff). please don’t hate and also excuse my english, i tried.
